Nice atmosphere, music playing and it was pretty busy. I came on a Friday night with a pretty big crowd. This was my first time here. We ordered takeout, the food was really good. I had a Greek salad with grilled chicken added. My family also got the chicken sandwich with fries and the chicken tenders were crispy and juicy. We spent a little over $40. Would have gave 5 stars but the girl who took my order was somewhat rude. Will visit again
Hostess and waitress were all very friendly. Our waitress was very attentive. The place was clean, the decorations and atmosphere was nice.We ordered the red eye special. The serving size was good (pancakes are huge). The food tasted good. It honestly was pretty standard diner food. I found it very similar in offerings and flavor to midnight dinner.Overall it was a good experience.
Food is delicious. The recipes used for these dishes are unlike any other I’ve tasted. It definitely takes a regular dish to an exceptional delight just off taste and seasoning alone. I took away a star for the cleanliness of the restaurant. You can feel your skin crawl as soon as you walk in. The wait staff is very kind to its customers, but unprofessional to each other. Lastly the prices are almost too good to be true. You probably can feed a family of 4 for 40 bucks.
RedEye Diner is a great retro-style diner located on the first floor of Epicenter. Ive eaten here several times and have always been happy with the service. The western omelette is great. The grits are thick and are some of the best grits Ive ever eaten. The bacon is good. The biscuit is big but a little dry. All in all, this is a great spot.
This place is my favorite. The food is always so good and its always hot! We had great service. Its tough not to order the whole menu.
Great service! Portions are out of this world good. If you get the fried chicken, ask for honey and mix the hot sauce in and slather the chicken with it. Only wish that the gravy had more sausage in it, other phenomenal food and service. Gets busy around noon on Sunday’s so be prepared for a little wait.
Ordered online from this diner. Went in to pick up my order. Stood at the counter where they seat you and 2 waitresses walked up and had a discussion about a table in front of me and never acknowledged me before they walked off. Minutes later a couple came in to be seated and one of the waitresses came back up and seated them again ignoring me and I said to here before them and that i had been here waiting long before they came in and was only picking up and order and she said very nasty and even raising her voice that she does not take orders and she is going to get someone. Well that never happened. I could see several people waking around and ignoring me. I finally found a young man and flagged him down. He apologized because I could tell it wasn’t part of his job. He gave me my order and I even tipped him. If there was a way to go back and remove my tip from when I placed my order I would have. The food was decent but I will never go back to this place. I would rather spend my money on an establishment that appreciates customers.
Food is flavorful. The plans utilized for these dishes are not normal for some other Ive tasted. It certainly takes a normal dish to an uncommon joy simply off taste and preparing alone. I removed a star for the neatness of the café. You can feel your hair stand on end when you stroll in. The stand by staff is exceptionally kind to its clients, however amateurish to one another. In conclusion the costs are unrealistic. You presumably can take care of a group of 4 for 40 bucks.
Always a good time at RED! Serves traditional Southern diner food. ALWAYS delicious and the service is friendly and fairly quick (although this visit they were short-staffed, so they may be a little slower than usual). Their shrimp and grits is FANTASTIC, and their Philly Cheesesteak is delicious. Ive NEVER had a bad experience here. Theyre convenient, right in the Epicentre in Uptown, the LYNX Blue Line station is right outside, and the Transportation Center is also nearby. Easy and quick access!
I sat at the bar and a man with tattoos refused to help me. Even though it was his section. A girl took my order and was great. Even afterwards when I asked him for the check he blatantly ignored me like a child and took orders for the people next to me. Moving slow on purpose...weirdest thing Ive ever seen from an employee who wants to keep a job serving people...the ladies at the counter were super sweet and helpful. The food was also phenomenal. No clue why this guy refused to help me. WEIRD. Even the man next to me thought it was very odd and said something. I would definitely address the situation as a manager. Thank you for the great food!
Closed at 930 when I called they said 10..Belk theater crowd started coming in after the show...employees decided closing was better than working.
Terrible service, waitress that walked us in, left and no one else showed up. We signaled for our orders to be taken and refills and a lady came over with an extremely rude attitude. Took our orders and took even longer time to receive food or more refills. We noticed the lady was avoiding us, we finally got her attention again and ask her for an update, she responded in a disrespectful manner and walked. By the time food shows up, all orders were messed up and were about to be possibly remade. Terrible experience.
We had a good experience here with service and the food was great. We were in and out in literally 45 minutes and our server (wish I could remember her name) was attentive and awesome. Employees seemed like they were having fun also, and I liked their cute outfits. Im glad we checked it out!
Good food close to my hotel.I didnt know if was there. Would have eaten there more had I known it was there.
Ok - to be honest, I had very low expectations, I was just very hungry and happened to walk in because they were open. It was so good! The staff was super nice and the food tasted fresh. Great option for diner food at any hour 👍
Restaurant had a sign before you walked in stating they were short staffed but the staff they had were all slow and unmotivated. Their name tags said they only get paid from tips so I thought they would be more customer inclined but unfortunately not. The host was very slow in seating people. The waitress forgot items on our order. We noticed a lot of the workers congregating versus serving customers. I witnessed a group leave because they waited so long to be seated. My drink had left over food stuck to the inside of the cup and I didnt notice until I drunk half the cup. The waitress forgot an item in our order, but the food arrived in a decent time. The bathroom was filthy. One stall didnt work and the other had very little toilet paper. There was also no soap. When we were ready to check out, I had to flag the waitress down to come back and check us out. Unfortunately it was a horrible experience.
Received excellent customer from a young lady who goes by Sparkle. She was so sweet and professional and I felt that she went above and beyond with my order. She truly understands how important customer service is. As someone who works in retail, this is truly a rarity. I really hope her manager appreciates her.
I’m a Charlotte local, and this was my first time here, but I’ll definitely be back! I love the 50s diner style decor with tile floors, metal ceiling accents, and red glowing lights. There’s a few bar counters; I’m sure this place used to be busy at night when the clubs were open pre-Covid.I was told there would be a 10-15 minute wait, and it was about 15 minutes. There were a few families with babies and some friends or couples, but it was pretty quiet and chill. My waitress was nice and checked in on me a few times, and was prompt with getting my food and drinks.I got the Greek omelette, no tomatoes. The grits were nice and creamy, and the biscuit was just crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Coffee was good. I want to try the waffles sometime when I’m in the area again!
They hung up on me when I tried to call to find out how busy it was, but we walked up and got sat right away. The food was typical American diner fare. My burger was tasty and reasonably priced. Not a memorable place to eat but it works if you’re hungry.
Great food and the nicest servers Ive ever had in any restaurant ever!!! Everyone was happy and super helpful besides being short staffed and they make great iced coffee. Jocelyn and Nicole went above and beyond to make sure we were happy!! Thank you ladies and God bless.
We were seated by someone who seemed annoyed that we even walked in the restaurant. After being seated, while waiting for service the employees 2 booths behind us ordered their food while chatting it up…loudly. It seemed no one wanted to make eye contact. 12 minutes and no water, no “I’ll be right with you…” No smile, nothing. We walked out and told the server behind the bar No one even acknowledged our existence for 10 minutes. Have a nice day. We ate our meal down the street…they filled my water class 4 times! They asked how was our visit to Charlotte was going? it’s great just don’t go to the “Red Eye Diner!”
We were in Charlotte for 4 days and had breakfast at Red Eye every day during our stay. The service was amazing. I cant remember the name of the server we had the first day but he was fantastic. John helped us out for the other three days and was friendly and very helpful. Everything that we ate was delicious. I had a meat lovers omelet the first day and a western the 2nd. The big winner for us was the French toast! My husband choose the regular and I choose the coconut crunch. The atmosphere inside the diner was great and the employees seemed to be managing the setbacks that lingered from the pandemic very well. Despite being a little short staffed they all had great attitudes and the service was on point. Thank you guys!
Super yummy and prompt service. The staff was very nice as well. It has a cute old fashion diner atmosphere.
Tried this places because it was close and convenient to my hotel. I will start with the good stuff. The waiter was new but very friendly and the service was pretty good. Started with the chocolate milkshake, it was very good! The rest was kind of a mixed experience. I got the burger, fries, and onion rings. Burger was pretty average, I thought the fries were good, but the onion rings were horrible. Rings were very dry, very little breading and really inedible. Even after explaining that to the waiter and only eating 2 of them, I was still charged for them. We also got the strip steak, biscuit, and Mac and cheese. Steak was okay, a bit tough but otherwise okay. The Mac and cheese and biscuit on the other hand were really bad. They were very old, dry, and we couldnt eat either of them.
Warm friendly welcome. Delicious omelets & fresh fluffy done-right buttermilk biscuit, delicious fried chicken wt biscuits, decent coffee. Good service, and clean wash rooms. And open all day. Loved it. Pies looked amazing too but didnt have room 😉
Great service, great attitudes, fun environment, quick service! Mostly a great experience and our server was really nice, but the food was very average. I ordered chicken and waffles, one of my favorite breakfasts, and the waffles were coming apart in the middle and the chicken was just ok. The coffee was ok and there was quite a long wait so I was a little disappointed we waited so long for a medium quality of food. Still enjoyed it though. Just expect a long wait with Covid right now (this is a popular spot!) and don’t expect groundbreaking food. Very big menu though so lots of options. Perhaps they have better options than the Chicken and Waffles. Cool place though and definitely would go back.
Excellent food and service! Best chicken Ive had!
Awesome!! They have great breakfast, lunch, and dinner foods! Our meal was great. Wait time, not bad. Clean and friendly environment. GOOO DAWGS!!
I was very disappointed in the food. The service was great but the food was terrible. The waffle was dry as a bone, the eggs were like cardboard, and the corner beef hash tasted like they mixed up some dollor store bologna and some potatoes, threw it in a pan and dropped it on the plate. When I mentioned the waffle to the server she said, Were known for our lunch and dinner entrees but breakfast is very basic. I spent $30 and I was really expecting much more quality than I received. I wont be coming back.
Great service!Great service with great food. Our waiter was amazing catering to a party of 10+ the employees were very polite. All orders were received within 15mins.
Amazing food. Crazy busy. Get ready for a food coma afterwards.
Good was ok and service was decent. Cheap meal, diner style but wait was too long and not worth it! Plus it’s in Epicenter sooooo no parking
Really cool little spot right at the epicenter. Be prepared to wait cause it does get busy. Food is good and reasonable on pricing. Even though it was super busy it came out pretty quick. Styled after the 50s so you cant miss it.
Food was fine. But my buddy got a bottled beer that was flat and expired. The date read: May2421. On the bottle, away from the date, was a random number 24. We didnt want a free beer, just wanted them to know. Server came back and said the manager said it expires May 24,, 2024. Sorry, Im in foodservice and I know how to read an expiration date. The server actually ran her finger under May24 then went past the 21 and read the 24. Sorry, but that is plain ignorant. They have signs up about being short staffed so please be patient. Yet not one employee works with a sense of urgency. Many stand around and chit chat ignoring customers.
Absolutely delicious, and great atmosphere. I love the old school vibe. The grits are above reproach. Good God!!! Me and my family will be traveling to Charlotte frequently and the Red Eye Diner is officially a MANDATORY STOP! Until next time Red Eye!
Do not go to this place they will kick you out. and say they there is a 30min wait when there is not. I went here today me and my husband got started at up and down we are being judged for no reason. And there was a lot of empty tables and there servers where not doing nothing but talking and staring at me and my husband up and down. Also kicking us out for no reason and we wear waring normal clothes.
Joined the waitlist on Yelp and once I arrived I was told they no longer do the Yelp reservation and the wait would be 20min. That was fine we waited the 20min and still was not seated a group came after us that used the same Yelp reservation and was seated when asked why were they seated and she said they had a reservation and had to honor it WE HAD ONE TOO . I just walked out that was very unprofessional and unfair if we had to wait the group should have been told the same thing that they no longer honor that and they should have waited as well. Will not go back
So my wife & I decided to come here just as we do any other time for the RedEye breakfast special. We have never really had a bad experience with this restaurant until an incident with Matthew today around 3pm. I called in our order and was informed of a 25 minute wait. We arrived to pick our order up approximately 27 minutes after it was placed. We were informed by the server Cam that our “orders had been sitting there for a while” and the person who took our phone order should have told us a 15 minute wait. My wife and sister’s waffles were soggy (they ordered them extra crispy) so we asked for a new order of 2 waffles. Matthew then starts being rude and belligerent with us and purposely has us waiting over an hour in this establishment. As we are waiting, Matthew calls the Epicentre security team and claims that we “got more than what we paid for” and we “need to leave now”. All in all, we still went home with only one of the waffle orders we paid for. After today, I will never spend my money in this establishment again and I will be informing everyone that I know to not come here unless they want to tolerate disrespect and discrimination from Matthew. I am honestly appalled that this establishment would employ someone in the customer service industry with such an unfriendly demeanor.
Weekday breakfast. Service was quick and friendly. Matthew was friendly and attentive. The creamy grits are in my top 5 of all time. The side biscut cloud have been warmer. The western omelet was delicious and the portions were good.
Great atmosphere. Fantastic staff. They were short handed, but still very attentive. Make sure you get the biscuit!
Food is delicious. The recipes used for these dishes are unlike any other I’ve tasted.
Bad customer service. Hostess on phone, ignoring customers. The food quality was low.
Service was a bit slow but they were busy. Food was great breakfast diner food and the grits are amazing!!! Would recommend!!
I came to this restaurant late in the afternoon for breakfast. I waited to be seated and was the only person in line. Some guy behind the counter stood there looking at me while eating a sandwich talking to a coworker. I stood there and waited for almost 10 minutes before getting seated. Come to find out the guy who was eating wasnt on any break. Sitting at the table no one came to take my order so I just left. I will absolutely never go to this restaurant again.
The wait to eat was ridiculous. Understaffed. Now that a good number of people are vaccinated they are eating out more. Charlotte is still only using every other table for social distance. Not wanting to wait 45 minutes to eat lunch by myself. (Full bar open and practically empty.) I walk all the way back to the hotel to find out they forgot my 8$ slice of red velvet cake. And with all this? You suck and get 1 star. Dont waste your money.
The waitress Jaz OMGoodness was wonderful very attentive and taking care of all her guests in a timely manner, my granddaughter says shes the sweetest person there.... Place is very clean, food was delicious and the rest of the staff wonderful and also very attentive... My only complain is the host Abigail, she was more interested in being on her phone than sitting down the guest, other than that great place and atmosphere to eat with family and friends...
Excellent breakfasts at low prices and very nice staff. It gets very busy in weekends, with long wait times. Go on a weekday.
Good food. Great staff
First time there and it was wonderful. The staff was amazing. Our waitress (Kelly) was the best. And the hostess (Yevette) went out of her way to help us celebrate my twin brother and my birthday by going next door for candle and singing to us. So thoughtful. They treated us with the best chocolate and strawberry cake with ice cream. Our breakfast was so delicious. Just the other in conversation I was saying modern customer service is lacking in our society but that’s not the case here. The staff here was positive and friendly with extra professionalism.I’ll definitely be coming back.
Very good food and service at a reasonable price. And the decor and music was a lot of fun.
Ordered my food online. And i walked up there they locked the door early, way before they were suppose to close. Looked at me and my family and kept walking. At least ask if i had a togo order and let me know they are closed. Just simple customer service goes a long way. A cleaning guy let me in and didnt even check me out and ask if i needed anything. Bad service ..if u choose to work in the industry at least fake like you like it.
We came to Charlotte to visit family. My husband and I went here on April 2nd, loved the food so we decided to come back on April 3rd. We ordered our food. My husband received his food but I did not receive mine, my food was given to someone else. I had to wait for my food to be prepared which took a long time. I asked to speak with the manager on duty Nicole, who sent the server to tell me no refund I asked then for the boss then was told ask for Keith tomorrow. Whatever the manager on duty was doing tonight that she could not at least come to apologize, I hope it was worth this review.
The food was great and the service was amazing....i cant wait to go back.
Loved this place until I got the fish n shrimp dinner...8 pieces of shrimp and 1 piece of fishFor $14.00????? Show Mars gives you more for less. It’s my fault for not reading the description but every place in Charlotte that has a Fish n Shrimp Dinner gives you waaaaay more. This needs to be changed. It was great just not enough.
My wife and I traveled to Charolette 2yrs ago and came across the Redeye. Back then it was fantastic. This trip the food was not good at all. I ordered fish and waffle fries. The fish tasted like eggs. Im not talking about the breading the actual meat tasted like eggs. My wife ordered firecracker shrimp and no waffle fries. First of all it had remains of waffle fries in the box and mixed in with shrimp. That were nothing like the shrimp we ordered the first time. On top of that she did not order collard greens. They did however refund or money. But we will not be back.
Fun diner in the heart of epicenter in Charlotte. Lots of menu items. Comfort food with great desserts and a full bar This was my second visit and I enjoyed it as much as my first. Its a toss up between what I liked more the carrot cake of the coconut cake. Good for large or small groups, however this is a popular area in Charlotte so getting in early would be best to beat the crowds.
Staff was fantastic and glad you are visiting, soild comfort food. I appreciate they were open when many of the restaurants were closed or offering very limited hours. You GO Red Diner!!!! Please support these place that is open during difficult times.....
I love this place the foods are tasty burt their service is slow.
Our food was good, our waitress tried really hard. However...we was seated by the kitchen and the F bombs and other profanities was flying, 1 of the waitresses was hollering at the top of hear lungs and our salads had to be sent back because even though our waitress had told the kitchen to leave onions off of one and tomatoes off the other one both came with. The customer across from us had feathers on her fried chicken and sent it back. As we left I asked to talk to the manager and told her of our experience and she blamed the salads on language barrier...really ?? And when told of the cursing, she just shrugged her shoulders and looked at me with I could care less look. Its too bad as it could be a really nice diner with large portions and good food but the lack of management was appalling. We was there on 4/16/21 around 7:30 pm in case the owners would care to check in to it, and possibly respond to my review.
Had a great breakfast. It was fun and an amazing experience. The food was great and so was the atmosphere. Even made a new friend because of it. Just a great place!
Just in the restaurant today! There was a bit of a wait time but it was worth it, I had the red eye burger and the boy who brought it to me was very sweet, with a big smile and positive attitude he was running a lot of peoples food. Would definitely recommend, maybe not the grits though lol
Food is average but waitstaff could improve.
Our server was excellent!! The foodwas great. We loved it!
Great food and amazing service. I usually avoid diners but we found this while looking for somewhere with late breakfast on a Sunday. Best grits I’ve ever had AND they have Cheerwine on tap. We will definitely be back!
Everything was great about this restaurant They do say that they are short of help but you could not tell at all definitely will be back
Ive always went to the Midnight Diner but was staying close to the Epicentre and decided why not. I WONT make that mistake again. Even with the long wait at Midnight the service there is 1000 times better than the sister. Red Eye staff were very inattentive. I asked for HOT chocolate with milk and got LUKE WARM milk chocolate. My grits went back 2 times for the cheese and the waitress seemed to be asI annoyed THAT she made the error twice I sent it back...Remember the movie Waiting????The food was good as usual but the service was sub-par from what Im used to at Midnight. If you want the FULL Experience goto MIDNIGHT DINER.
Great food and atmosphere! The sausage gravy is yummy and the fried chicken was delicious! Nicole and Angel are amazing workers - they made our dinner enjoyable despite an unnecessary disruption from some roudy, unreasonable patrons.
This is my familys second visit to RedEye Diner and just as the first visit it was amazing the service was on point and excellent the food was really really good and may I add we had a party of eighteen and we were seated very quickly so if you have never visited this diner I truly recommend this amazing super friendly awesome family oriented as well as large groups this is the place and me and my family would like to thank all the staff that waited and took care of us and we cant forget about the back of the house were all of our delicious food was prepared so thanks again from the Hardy,Hanes,Carr,Whiteley Family
Work there and eat a lot food great
Dryest biscuits and toast. Great grits
Our first time trying red eye diner! It was great. We started with the firecracker shrimp appetizer. It was delicious. My party had the bacon cheeseburger and the chicken tenders meal to keep it simple. The fries were awesome. The meal comes with a lot of food!
So good!! Came back twice while on vacation. Friendly staff!!
Had a great experience there was a small wait but they seemed “short staffed” so I wouldn’t mind waiting for a table than waiting for service. The food was sooo tasty! I got the bubba. O M G their biscuits are like little clouds! And my husband got the thumbs up coconut French toast which seemed like an entire loaf of bread, I mean they are HUGE slices but he enjoyed that a lot too. They play good music and the atmosphere was nice! Also the manager was helping out a lot which I love to see.
The service took a while to get going because the waitress went on break. The food was pretty good, a typical diner.
The wait was understandable after tasting the food and receiving excellent service. My waitress was so kind, expedient, and on point with recommendations. Awesome service and amazing food!!
