This place is exactly what you want from a diner. I originally went here in 2012 by random chance on a long flight layover and had the best challah French toast I’d ever had in my life. So much so that I remembered the name of the place and decided if I was ever in Charlotte I would come back. Now, almost 10 years later, I happened to be in Charlotte and made it a point to stop by. It was exactly how I remembered it, and will be my go-to stop in town.
Great dining experience. Ambiance was awesome. Shrimp and grits was delicious and the creole sauce was absolutely scrumptious. The bubba was mouthwatering and flavorful. Biscuits were soft and appetizing. The parking was tricky and we had to wait. The dine in also had a queue and we waited for 15-20 mins. Please increase your parking space.
Although it was crowded and the line was long for dine-in and take-out, the wait was worth it. Jasmine took the order and checked on everyone accordingly. Everyone was busy working hard to accommodate everyone.During the wait for the order there was alot of laughter and good times all around. It was great to be out enjoying the atmosphere. The place was clean and sanitized. The diner was well secured and safe.The breakfast was fantastic especially the grits that Cederick recommended. Also the pancakes was so mouth watering. Pricing: pretty standard for a dinerFood: Though they are generous with the portions, I was not very satisfied. The waffle could have had some cinnamon because it tasted a bit bland. Though it came with strawberry compote/jam, it tasted like a standard waffle from a hotel breakfast buffet. For the chicken, it was quite dry and lacked seasoning.Service: Midnight Diner was well-staffed and the employees were kind.Overall, I was disappointed because the popularly high ratings set my expectations to an optimistic level. Specifically, the signature chicken and waffles did not have any memorable characteristics. Though the food wasnt terrible, it was lacking in flavor and is mediocre. The ambiance was fine, the interior was well decorated as a classic diner setting.
Very popular place in Charlotte. Gets VERY busy both because the food is good and because it is prime location right off of downtown. Due to that parking is always at a premium especially on a Friday or Saturday night and during downtown events.On this visit, had the French toast, scrambled egg whites with cheese, Turkey sausage and hashbrowns. Food was good, service good. Sister had chicken and waffles, niece had a salad and nephew had pancakes. They all enjoyed their food as well.Like that its every other table for social distancing, partitions up between tables and menus on phone now to prevent so many hands touching surfaces.
What a gem. We ended up stumbling across this place after a concert. Place was packed with a line outside at 1:00am. I was very impressed with the staff here. Very well organized and quick. Even with the line and amount of business they had we got seated quick and had our food in no time at all. Now to the food, bar was set low cause it’s an all night diner but boy was I wrong. I had the chicken and waffles and my wife had the shrimp and grits. Both plates were 10 out of 10. Food was so so good, I can not express that enough. I highly recommend this place no matter what time it is. I can’t wait to return to Charlotte just to eat here again. Big thanks to the wonderful staff here that do an amazing job.
If I could give more than five stars I would. The amount of 5 star reviews dont lie. The service is incredible and th food comes fast. I had a flight out of Charlotte stopped there before and stopped there when I got back. I plan to drive here more often. The fish fry is killer I got it with collards they were amazing! The hotsauce that they have goes so good on the fish with tarter. I got breakfast the second time. Pancakes are fluffy and sweet. Eggs were cooked to perfection and the hash browns were the best Ive had probably ever. My boyfriend got biscuits and gravy. I thought I made the best biscuits and gravy but officially the midnight diner has surpassed me. Everyone there works hard and works as a team. Very pleases I will be driving an hour and a half to eat here again soon.
Be prepared to wait in line to eat at the local Midnight Diner in Uptown Charlotte. The diner can get a lot of tables cleaned and groups sat at about 9:30 pm. The server we had was quick to get our drinks and food order and the other tables they were sat with at the same time. We got out drinks right before our food was delivered, server didn’t get all the sides when taking the orders so there was some running back and forth for them. Our four person group came for breakfast, it was decent but didn’t seem like anything special or that me and my husband want to go back for. We had the waffle breakfast combo an one of the egg breakfast combos.
I’ve been wanting to come here for months and it didn’t disappoint! I ordered a chocolate chip waffle, after our server said the waffles were wonderful, along with some hash browns. The waffle was amazing. The diner was so cute. I’m excited to come back again.
So I come here often and probably more than i should. Its a busy place. Theres always a line and a wait. The staff is awesome and the food is great. My sister loves the shrimp n grits. As for me, the Brunch burger is my personal favorite. This is my go to spot. My out of town family likes it as well.
I love this spot! Its ALWAYS busy....and its ALWAYS good! The shrimp and grits are creamy, flavorful delights! And the fried chicken is a perfect cheat meal on my diet! Savory and delicious! The mac and cheese is superb! Never dissapoints! The staff are always busy but very friendly and professional!
I called ahead and placed my order over the phone I was told 20 minutes, but upon arrival I was told by the door attendant that I would have to wait outside in a line that was at least 30 minutes or more longer mind that I didnt leave home exactly when I placed my order, so I know that it had to be ready. I pleaded with the attendant and she said that the walk ups were waiting too. So my question is whats the use of calling ahead?I told her that if I had to wait outside longer than I was told that I didnt want my order. Not only did I say that I also will probably NEVER EVER NEVER order from that establishment again! And if I know of any Family Friends or Veterans Im gonna use what influence I have to suggest that we me or they also never ever Patronize The Midnight Dinner and Ill also ask them to do the same!

I pulled into Charlotte, NC around 10pm and almost every where to eat was closed. I was hungry from a long flight experience. Someone referred me to Midnight Diner. (THANK GOD) 😊 🙏🏽 ❤It was a packed night with a long line outside on the sidewalk. I was alone and able to sit at the counter. The food was seasoned well and cooked in a timely manner. My Sweet Tea was delicious too. But most impressive was the positive collaborative energy of the team working in the midst of being so busy.My waitress was very attententive and responsive even with them being so busy. And the meal options werent expensive either. You can have breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert at any hour.Ill probably go back tomorrow for too.
Wanted a good diner burger..this tasted like a frozen patty, toppings were incorrect and the fries were cold. Servers should be required to have clean uniforms the people working had on scarves and they did not look put together. I don’t want you holding my plate against you dirty shirt!! Not impressed, Prices are reasonable but definitely not worth the wait or hastle!!
We were in town and trying to find a place to eat, we saw Midnight Diner had great reviews so we went to try it out. Im not sure if it was just an off day for them (if so, I apologize) but it was destroyed in there. Everyone was really nice but man, it was disgusting! The floors were covered with grease and food, my daughter and I couldnt even breathe going into the bathroom to wash our hands.. it was so dirty and smelled so bad...used feminine products on the ground in the stalls.. just reallyyy gross. The food wasnt super great either but we werent expecting anything fancy, since its a diner. The staff was really friendly even though they were slammed with customers, so that was definitely nice. Hate to leave negative reviews, but we were just really shocked, especially with how great the reviews were. Wanting to give others a heads up.
Shrimp and grits were good but needed hot sauce to carry it. Service at the bar was a bit slow but friendly. Wanted to try the signature banana pudding but they were out ... Disappointing l for a signature item but Im sure because its popular.Best part was the diverse crowd - its a entertaining slice of Charlotte culture. Will be back.
Went here after a concert, was only a short walk from our hotel. It was really good, for a late night diner especially. We had to wait for a bit outside to get a table, but the food and service made it so worth the wait. Will definitely come back here when we come back to Charlotte in the future.
Good Food and overall good service depending on the server. The food sometimes tastes old not days old but previous day old. Sometimes its super fresh but even still its usually pretty good. Overall the inconsistencies is the biggest issue here. Some servers are super good others are very unattentive. I get it when its busy and short staffed but I hate when I get one who I see laughing and chatting with co workers and I am waiting 15 minutes for a refill or the check.
They did not disappoint. The shrimp and grits were awesome. The grits were so creamy and the shrimps were just right, not rubbery. I just hate that I went on game day when it was a crowd and no parking space. I will make another visit.
Insanely friendly wait staff! Even though it was incredibly busy the wait wasnt very long AND we got our food quickly! Its priced better than basically anywhere youll eat in Charlotte! 10/10 would recommend!

Visiting North Carolina an iconic food is shrimp and grits.. The Midnight diner was one of the top places recommended in Charlotte.. Definitely a cool throwback place to eat old school diner vibe. Staff was very friendly and helpful!! Although the best part was the Shrimp and Grits, which were Absolutely delicious 😋.. !! If youre in Charlotte I would definitely recommend stopping here, its open 24/7.
Food and service was amazing . We had to only wait 15 minutes or so and they texted us when our table was ready . I had the turkey burger, my girlfriend had chicken and waffles and both were great . Enjoyed this place . Went around 4p on Sat and it wasnt busy, after 6p may have been a different story

Classic diner. We were in town on a layover and found this place. The onion rings were amazing. The shrimp and grits should come with a warning about needing a nap after you eat them. Appreciated the air conditioning that was working like a champ. My daughter had the veggie burger and it was more than acceptable for a veggie burger. The homemade ranch dressing was delicious. We’d go back if we were in town again.
I grew up in North Carolina and moved to Jersey. I came to see a Jets game and Diners are a big partcof Jersey culture. I saw Fried Chicken on the menu and had to try it. It was the best fried chicken Ive had in years. You have to try it!!!
Line was long but moved quickly for a Saturday. Their fried chicken is top notch! I wish there were more seating or at least another location considering it’s popularity.
Veggie burger was decent, fries were deliciously seasoned. The hostess and waitresses were all nice and good at their jobs- we were seated in ten minutes at noon. The parking lot was pretty hectic, and a man spat on the window, while standing outside, towards a waitress inside during our meal. Some people were also loudly cursing inside. Fun diner, but maybe not the most kid friendly environment.

AMAZING...All 4 of us ordered the firecracker shrimp with grits and Mac n cheese as sides...with an extra order of shrimp and fried chicken wings...One thing... the wait was an hour long. Typically, when I was told the wait time and saw all of the customers waiting, I would have just walked away and went somewhere else. But, I noticed everyone that came after us on the wait list all patiently waited...That was my inclination that the food was going to be slap!...And It was!...Hope to go back again while visiting Charlotte!
A GEM & RARE find in Charlotte! On weekends be prepared to wait in line outside the diner entry. They served the most well-prepared scrambled eggs Ive ever had. Bacon was super crispy and sweet. You need to scan every menu page, Oh these violent delights. Staff? SUPER sweet & attentive! Mark this one down for your next breakfast people. Go for coffee and dessert. Midnight Diner has you covered! Yes, I ate cake for breakfast!
First GIgi our waitress was great. Food was good enough for price chicken super crispy and hot….waffle was ok . Half sweet/lemonade watered down. My chief complaint. Nasty surroundings . Splatters In Walls crumbs/food all over floor and the bathroom was disgusting! I know they are busy but damn. To be honest I lost my appetite quick. Barely touched waffle. Husband sides potato salad and green beans lack luster. Not to mention some guy started blow his nose beside us! Not the restaurants fault but that’s vomit worthy for me. Felt like I could catch corona on here. One time visit. Won’t be back
Chileeeeeee this one of my favorite ❤ places to get Shrimp and grits!!!! I dont know what they put in them but baby 😅🥰 I love them services is good always had gd experience all the food be on point. Now it is not no 1st date 😏 or serious conversation, business meeting place! But if you want some good grub early morning, in between the day or late night this the spot!. Oh and you will have to wait!!! If you call to order they take for ever to answer the phone if they answer. Only bad part but worth it
The food at Midnight is amazing! There is always a wait for seating so be prepared for that but we think its worth the wait. The staff is nice and efficient. The ambiance is fun and lively. We had shrimp and grits and biscuits and coconut French toast 😋 it was the best!
This place right here..well let me just say ..the taste is still in my mouth..some good eating going on up in there... kudos to yall..ya we the the ones came in with the suitcases wanting to sit in the back but we were accommodated gracefully and truly enjoyed the experience.

Normally, i love this place. however, the last time i visited, shortly after midnight on saturday, sept 11. there was a line outside of about 12 people. between the seating inside of the diner and outside seating, there were at least 15 open tables. also, i called to inquire on a to-go order, but the phone was never answered. i did not change my rating, however, because this may be (hopefully) due to the current staffing issues that restaurant are experiencing. hoping for a better experience next time around.
Didnt have to wait long even though it was football Sunday. Our waitor was nice, fast & friendly customer service. Didnt have any complaints during this visit. Food was amazing and we enjoyed ourselves.
What can I say? The food was terrible. I ordered breakfast. Most diners do breakfast well, right? Wrong!! The pancakes were dense and cold, the eggs were not real, the hash browns were extremely greasy, and the cold toast was not buttered. They did however, try to serve me a banana on a separate plate. At least this place is open late and the staff is very friendly. Now if they served edible food they’d be on to something great. I do not recommend this restaurant if you can’t tell by now!
Excellent good and service as always. Restaurant needs done upgrading in the restrooms to really complete the experience. Not a knock on the restaurant just a friendly suggestion from a repeat customer and loyal patron.
Poor parking. Unclear instructions on how to get seated. Fries were good. The buffalo chicken sandwich was the size of a slider. The honey butter looked like move theatre butter with spit in it. The waffle had no flavor and oddly disintegrated in my mouth. The grits and the mac and cheese were completely inedible. Our waitress, Traysa I think, was very nice and on top of things. Overall, not the best food experience. 😕

I came with a large group and the waiter was super friendly and accommodating. Even though they were busy he took really good care of us. The whole place has a classic diner vibe, real neat. Portion sizes are huge and fresh. Next time Im in Charlotte I want to try the shrimp and grits, they looked really good!

Ive eaten here in the past and it was great. Not this time. Orange juice was watered-down, waffle was very dry, fruit was rotten. Not sure whats happened here, but it was not as I remembered it.

Typical diner food. A decent meal in a clean spot. The food is not worth the wait. Id suggest the bar if you just want a hot meal. A little pricey for diner food, but doable.

Im from NYC and the food and service was absolutely fantastic. I had the chicken and waffles and loved every single bite! The wait was long but to be expected for a popular restaurant with great food and service. The experience was well worth the wait. Next time I pass through Charlotte I will make sure to stop by again.
The staff was friendly, and the food was delicious. In particular the onion rings were perfectly cooked, with a bit of crunch to the onion while still having a sweet taste.

First of all, I am from NY and I’ve never seen such a diverse crowd. This environment was beautiful. I had a layover in Charlotte, flying from Kentucky to New York… one of the passengers recommended this place. It was 2am and this diner was jam packed. Food was served instantly, and it was sooooooooo good. I ordered twice!! I never do this lol I’m back in NY and craving that good NC flavored chicken. I will make it my business to revisit this place. If this review doesn’t sell you, idk what will 🤷🏽♂️ thank you Midnight Diner & staff
