First time visiting and will now be the only Greek restaurant that we will go to from now on! I have grown up with a Greek community, eaten at many Greek restaurants across many states, and even have two close friends who also own Greek restaurants of their own so with my picky preferences, I chose to drive an hour away for true authentic Greek food and was absolutely impressed with Mad Greek! I will have to admit that this has been my favorite restaurant of them all!!The Grecian delight gave us a platter of our favorite appetizers, my rack of lamb was so tender, juicy, and freshly marinated. My husbands chicken souvlaki was divine and our picky children loved their salmon and calamari! Our waitress was so kind and patient with us and the owner (I believe) even welcomed us and greeted our children with chocolate bars! We also loved the outdoor patio area as were still trying to remain safe from Covid.Thank you so much for such a delicious meal and for providing such a welcoming and safe environment for my family to enjoy!! We will definitely be back very soon!!
I had been trying to get here for a while. We come from Detroit where there are lots of Greek food choices. Now living in Davidson, and the choices are limited. We went to South Park Mall and I knew it wasn’t very far. I enjoyed the Grilled Chicken on pita. My mother in law had the lamb gyro. I had them add Feta to my grilled chicken. I enjoyed it, especially with the Tzatziki sauce. The server was also very nice and accommodating. Friendly service!
Ummm…AMAZING. We are visiting Charlotte and love Greek food so we were super happy to find a spot close to us. The reviews had us questioning our decision while enroute, but we chose to push onward to see for ourselves. We were extremely glad that we did because ourexperience was awesome!!Upon entering, we were greeted by Amella, who immediately made us feel as if we were distant cousins coming home for a family reunion. As we took our seats, I noticed 4 tables of men, socialising over coffees and speaking Greek amongst themselves. I knew right then we were in for a treat. Our server Daniela was perfect and helped both of us build our meals off menu. The gyro meat was tender and seasoned just right, the rice was fresh and the grilled vegetables were a perfect compliment to the meal. Both greek salads were fresh and well portioned. When we are in Charlotte again, we will visit our newly adopted distant family at the Mad Greek.PS - the baklava was heavenly..
Honestly I have not been here in years, mainly because Im not on that side of town much. I met some family there for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The service was very good. We got the traditional Gyro, but next time would love to try other Greek food. With so many of our older restaurants closing, Im glad they are still open.
My in-laws are Greek and this is our preferred location for special events like birthdays. It’s also one of our frequently ordered restaurants from DoorDash. Highly recommended, authentic and low key.Coming from the south on South Blvd is easiest, coming from the north can be a hard left to make due to cross traffic and there is not a left turn lane. Stay safe and enjoy delish, authentic Greek food. Try the big Greek salad with lamb…extra dressing 🔥💯😁
Incredible Greek food in such a welcoming atmosphere. My go to is the gyro with a side of fries and a mad greek salad. I have also tried the freddo drink, which was refreshing and delicious. This restaurant always makes it on “best of” lists for Greek, is always featured on articles/news segments, and it’s not hard to see why. This is truly a local gem in Charlotte!
The best Greek food I’ve ever had! My family is Greek so I know authenticity and quality. I’ve visited various cities and it’s always a challenge finding a spot like this. The food is incredible!! Service was also great! Highly highly recommend!
Sad to say this family-owned restaurant lost a customer today… and I hate to leave bad review because I know restaurants are struggling and understaffed right now… Ultimately, I hope this review is read by management and leads to better training and communication among staff to help improve the business.Backstory: Ordered online through Square (which was listed as the restaurant’s preferred online ordering vendor). The kid’s souvlaki meal clearly states that it comes with fries — and further sets the expectation in the customer’s mind with fries in the picture (see attached photo). When I called the restaurant to inquire why the fries were missing, I was told by the gal answering the phones — who was being very frantically told what to say by another woman in the background — that the kids meal did not come with fries. I pushed back because I was looking at the description and picture online via my iPad. I was then told (again as the gal on the phone acted as intermediary for whomever was angrily coaching her in the background) that “the guy who handles online orders must not be doing his job” because “the appetizer isn’t supposed to come with fries.” I then corrected that I had not ordered the souvlaki appetizer, it was the kid’s meal. At the point, I was placed on hold for 2 minutes while they answered phone calls from other customers. When my call was re-answered I was told my name could be taken down and I could come back to pick up the fries later. Since I had picked up my order on my lunch break, I did not have time to return immediately. (I also do not have time to return again any time today as I already have a packed to-do list.) I requested a refund, which was granted, and then I was promptly hung up on.Overall, a rude and disappointing experience. Based on this experience, it appears communication between front of house, kitchen, and the person in charge of setting online menus needs to be remedied… or whoever is responsible for setting up the online ordering system need to update the menus and set correct expectations for what an order includes (so a customer knows precisely what they are paying for). 😔
The food is very good, however the service is usually lousy, they are slow to serve the tables and sometimes they dont check back until you are ready to go. The prices are very high given the poor service and facilities. They day the food turns bad they wont last but a few weeks.
3/28/2021Went here for lunch and I ordered the chicken pita and french fries. The food was delicious and the service was great! I’ve heard good things about this place but never stopped here to eat! They had so many to go orders waiting and now I know why!! Thank you for the wonderful food and service!! I’ll be visiting again when I’m in the area!
Just left from getting my food and so disappointed that my fries were cold. Waited for our to go order and I would’ve expected that me and my sister would have hot fries. I was excited from reading the reviews but now that has changed if I would go back…. It was a carry out order so how could I tell you at the restaurant if I didn’t notice it until I got home!!!
For all that it is the best Greek restaurant Ive been to so far in Charlotte it was still rather disappointing. The lamb in my gyro deluxe was room temperature and not as flavorful as Ive had elsewhere. The salad was good though
This was my first time, but it wont be the last. The food was SO good! I had the Mad Greek salad with chicken and it was perfect. The dressing was outstanding and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Fresh and good.I had ordered a side of hummus, but that got missed. I was looking forward to trying that, but will have to do that next time!Highly recommend!
We stopped in for a late lunch today for the first time. We ate outside. I had the falafel pita and a side of cucumber and tomatoes. The pita was awesome with tzatziki and house made dressing. Also had a Mykos beer. The boss lady had the Grecian chicken pita with fries. She really enjoyed it as well. Service was quick. By the time we were leaving a crew of older Greek men were gathering outside for backgammon on the porch. Love it. 🇬🇷 👍🏻 🥙
I cannot believe as a Charlotte native that this is my first time coming here. This is hands down the best Greek Food I have ever had. The quality, taste and service is out of the this world. Courtney did an amazing job...fast, kind, smart and on her game.. I cant wait to bring my mom and sister back...Thanks Courtney...Great experience...
I dont leave many low reviews, but Mad Greek missed the mark today.Usually really good. Nice warm pita and a proper gyro with freshly shaved meat.Today, oof. Room temperature fries and tepid gyros. No tomatoes in the gyros... Only ate a couple fries before discarding. For context- Called in our simple order. Young lady taking the order seemed off, but I can definitely forgive that when working on a holiday.Told it would be ready in 10 minutes, I arrived quicker than that, and the bagged order was already on the counter. Called at 11:49am, there and paid at 11:54am.I do wonder if we were given an older cancelled order that was close enough to what we wanted.Disappointing Mad Greek.
The food is very good, but I wouldnt eat in again. The dishes were dirty. There was dried food on my plate and fork and there was a lip gloss print on my wine glass. Its a shame because I really like liked the food, but I couldnt finish my meal.
Gyro sandwich is good, but I believe years ago it used to be better, particularly the fries are consistently much worse than they were. Despite having the same distributor for 30 years, things can still change. Adding a star as it still might be one of the best gyro in the city.
It was great. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The place was jumping. We dined in but tons of to go orders were going out. It looked like two girls were handling everything but the cooking and they did a great job. I had a mad greek salad with chicken. Delicious. My friend had a chicken gyro. She was happy too.
Finally found a good gyro place that has real gyro meat and does not have a despicable seeing eye charm!!! The food here was really yummy, I would give e it a 5 for taste but a 2 for presentation. My daughter, who is a picky eater, actually wanted to take an extra gyro to go! The staff was courteous and helpful. The place could use a little updating and a good cleaning. Prices were good. Overall good place to get lunch or dinner if you are hungry and want great tasting food quickly.
Food served old. And yes during dinnin in. Your grape leaf was served microwaved. And the gayro meat was definitely not fresh. Shame on you. People want fresh food
The sandwich was good, but the fries were ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE (Raw, limp, & tasteless). The only flavor was the feta, but some the fries were raw it didnt help much) Definitely not worth the almost $5 price tag. It left a very bad 1st impression. UPDATE in response to the owner, the sandwich came with raw fries also & i paid 4.50 plus tax (almost $5) for an additional order of of fries.
Nice place great service thank you.
The food was very goodThe waitress forgot all about my salad but I would still recommend this place because of the food and not the serviceI didn’t have dessert but they also looked fantastic in the case
Greek Salad was fresh. I REALLY liked their version of Greek Dressing!!! Dont know what they do to it differently but it is very flavorful. There Gyro was deliciously awesome. I will be going back and taking friends! I didnt particularly care for the soft style fries but the made me some crispier ones! I like my fries crispy. So ask for them crispy if your like me 😉
I give the food here four stars. We had the salad with gyro meat, a pork souvlaki skewer, and a chicken souvlaki skewer. All of the meat was a bit salty, but the tzatziki and hummus were amazing.Removed a star due to the fact that I had to wait thirty minutes for pick up.S/n: Order pick up directly from their website to save yourself (and them) some money.
The parking lot was full. There were people having meals inside the restaurant and on its patio. Masks are required. We ordered a lamb salad and a lamb gyro with fries. The food was delicious! The prices are reasonable. The staff was efficient and professional. I highly recommend having a meal here.
I drove 1 hour 20 mins to get here.... Trust me it was worth every mile! We will definitely be back. Thank You!
Fabulous, locally owned restaurant. My favorite is spanakopita & Greek salad but the baklava is also delicious!
First time eating the Mad Greek and I was blown away. I got the same items I always get at other greek restaurants (tzatziki, hummus, pita, salad, grapes leaves, spanakopita) but they we’re all 10x better than any other place I’ve tried. We ordered delivery through GrubHub, and didn’t go in so I’m just reviewing the quality of the food but it was seriously top-notch. This will be our #1 choice for greek food in Charlotte from now on.
Good portions, great food!!! Do not get the coffee!! Everything else is very good.
Very impressed with the food and service... Extremely busy but we were met with smiles and sat immediately. Best Tzatziki sauce Ive ever had
Authentic Gyros and some great art work. A nice spot. I had a bite of the kids smash burgers and they were a bit crunchy for my taste.
So yummy! Definitely worth a try. My literal only complaint was my cup was dirty. No biggie. We tried the chicken gyro and the regular gyro and the salad and it was so good! We will definitely be back!
Came here because of the positive reviews, and boy was it disappointing. For a authentic Greek restaurant the food was blah, hummus tasted metallic, salad was NOT fresh, but I will say the chicken had flavor but was not fresh. The waitress was really nice, but I assume the owner (as he did nothing but sit and watch TV mounted on the back wall of the restaurant) was seriously obnoxious. He kept blasting some show and laughing out loud (as he would be sitting on his lazy boy at home) without regard to customers in the dining area. He kept the back side door open letting flies in from the back dumpsters. There were dead flies on the window sills and were disgusting. The restaurant itself was not the cleanest and well put. The vibe was weird and tense. When we left the waitress thanked us walked, but when we walked past the owner and he didnt even say thank you or even goodbye. Needless to say this is one authentic Greek restaurant I will NOT be returning to.
Have been coming here for years....way back when it was HUGOS. And even since I moved away anytime I come to or through Charlotte...this is my go to spot!Only complaint I have ever had including today...is the quality of food when the owner is not in the kitchen preparing it himself...sorry to say that its never hot or prepared with care...it does come out super quick though, but I would rather wait a little longer and receive hot freshly prepared awesome Greek delights
Great classic Greek food. Nice outdoor dining veranda.
Fantastic food. Love the gyro, souvlaki, gigante beans, and salads. Everything is always served hot and fresh.
Whether you are traveling or a local and are in the mood for some Greek Cuisine you absolutely MUST stop into the Mad Greek in Charlotte! Classic Greek restaurant feel great food and staff. We had a few small plates, and gyros and slouvaki finished off with a tasty Frappe. Good variety of food fresh and delish!
The service was good. But my half of chicken was very overcooked. Not sure if it was because they were closing within the hour. I was told that the food was always good. I will go back again to try the food, just not before they. Lose
Great food bursting with flavors from a locally owned business!
Order to be ready in 20 minutes. We arrived on time. Gyro meat was extremely dry, ends were crunchy and cold. Taziki sauce was off. Gyro was comparable to Arbys, mostly inedible. Fries were cold and dry. Not hand cut, like frozen grocery store steak fries. Chicken salad was good. Greek dressing was good. No creamy Greek dressing option. Ive been to several Mad Greek restaurants in various states, this one we wont be back.
Ive been to the Mad Greek five times and never had anything less than a stellar experience. The staff are kind, the food is excellent, and the prices are very fair for the portion size.
Food was fresh and delicious. Got the Grecian Feast and every items was awesome. Took baklava home and it was very good too.
Love The Mad Greek. Great food. Generous portions. Though they seem pretty friendly to me....
Friendly staff and very very tasty food. I wish they had some homemade hot sauce though
Good Grecian Staple Dishes, a few flaws... we will return just for the gyros and salads. However, the lamb chops were disappointing, thin, overcooked and not chops but gristly, bony slabs. The Lefkas lamb would have been happier left to play on a hillside of the island. The chef needs help with his rendition of baklava, which was soggy and tough. Suggest he get some baking lessons from a Greek aunt or mother. Wait staff was very attentive and friendly. Flatware and napkins were rudimentary, could use an upgrade. The Mad Greek did not live up to its recent Instagram popularity.
The food was the best. I will order again. Thanks
This is some of the best greek food i have had in charlotte. Flavorful and lots of food. Price is manageable. Only complaint was staff is slow. And it took forever to get check. (If its your first time, at a new restaurant.....you wouldnt automatically know to pay the bill at the front. Maybe the waitresses or waitors could communicate that in some way). But it may have been a miscommunication. Still overall, great experience.
The food was absolutely amazing! Fresh and authentic. Staff was very friendly. We would definitely go back.
GREAT breakfast. Great service. A MUST when in Charlotte.
I waited over 10 minutes for my chicken skewers after the other items in my order were ready. In total I waited for 25 minutes for my take out order. The chicken was hard and dry they forgot my rice. When I went back I observed the cook warming my rice in a microwave and requested A refund for my rice. IWould never go back there again. The ladies were nice. Some of the other orders were mixed up as well.
We have heard about the restaurant for years and finally made it in the other day. Extremely generous portions of delicious food for a great price! We will be heading back again very soon
I had ordered chicken and falafel pitas. The chicken pita was amazing however the falafels were undercooked and tasted really raw. It was really a disappointment as everything else was great.Update:Very great customer service by the owner in providing a refund. Will definitely be back to give them a second chance.
What a great little cafe. Prices are good and the food was delicious. You know it’s authentic when a great group of Greeks are outside enjoying the food and patio. Had the grecian shaved pork pita and Greek coffee. Both very good. Super fast and reliable service as well. This will become a regular for me.
My wife and I were in the mood for greek food. We decided to give The Mad Greek a try. Toke our daughter, who was home for college break) and my mother in law. Ate our fantastic meal out on their patio. We were all very pleased with our meals. The Mad Greek salad with gyro meat was awesome. After all the years of passing by this restaurant, we finally gave it our go ahead and we were not disappointed.
I found this on a list of good Greek places in Charlotte, so we stopped by for a team lunch the other day.You really cant miss it on South Blvd. Its a bright blue building. Really what you think of when you think hole in the wall. The menu has what you would expect from Greek food for the most part. There are many different pita options.I went with the classic gyro pita and upgraded my fries to Greek fries (fries with lemon, feta, and herbs). Ive had better gyros, but it was pretty good. The meat seemed kind of overcooked. I really like the fries. While its a sit-down restaurant, they dont bring your check to you. You pay at the counter when youre done. We werent aware of this, so it would be nice if they made this more clear. If youre looking for solid, casual Greek food, this is your place.
The fresh vegetables are the best here especially if you like the Greek seasonings nothing wrong with the gyro meat either outstanding french fries crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside I thought everybody had forgotten how to do this Thats the way theyre supposed to be
Food was very good, there are so many things on the menu Id love to try. I wish it was on the University side of town where I live so I could go more often
Very pleasantly surprised. Having a wife that is Greek means the bar is set pretty high and the mad Greek definitely delivered..
Amazing hummus and pita. Love this place
My family had lunch here today for the first time. It was delicious. My husband had the gyro pita with fries, and I had the grilled chicken salad with pita bread. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and homemade. The staff was wonderful, great service. We will definitely be back soon!
Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was good. The patronage made me feel as if I could have been in Greece. Really enjoyed that
The food is not good. The falafels had no flavor, our fries had no seasoning, they forgot our baklava (this was a pick up order) and gave us no silverware for our appetizer. The food had no flavor, and I would not recommend.Update: I received a refund for my baklava, nothing else. My review is fair because the food wasn’t good. We didn’t even eat it, because the food itself wasn’t good. I’m not deleting my review because beyond having food missing, the food we got did not taste good.
The reviews of this place were not wrong. A spacious restaurant, both its indoor and outdoor seating. The service.was spectacular, the food was delicious. The portions were sizable enough to be challenging. The hummus and spanakopita were fantasticWe dont come this way.often, but when we do we will be back.
Not bad, not great, waitress was so beautiful it was distracting. Boath of them I forgot what I had.
My first time here. I was craving authentic Greek Cuisine. Havent tasted any since last year in NJ.I hit the jackpot when I strolled in and sat down. The staff is nice. My waitress was attentive & upbeat. The portions are LARGE. Flavor of food was beyond DELICIOUS. Ive passed this fantastic find before. If you honestly like Greek Cuisine, I absolutely recommend this restaurant. Better than the Greek restaurant I used to frequent in lower Manhattan.Started with the Mezz appetizer. Ordered the Gyro which came w/hand cut fries for dinner. My drink was sweet ice t.I took most of it home. Also, treated myself to Baklava, dessert to go. 😍Their baklava was over the top. That was my Easter dessert. 😉Thank you!
I was not impressed with this restaurant. First of all it was dirty and dusty, also there are paper towel rolls on the table. I dont think people should be getting napkins from a device that requires two hands during a pandemic... just a thought. Fries were overcooked but the rest of the food was good. Wait staff was very nice and seemed to work hard.
I have visited this restaurant numerous occasions and I never had any complaints. Today, however, was the worst that I have encountered. I referred a friend to visit with me today and raved about how great the food was. Our fries were cold, there was a mixture of crinkle cut and wedges. It appeared we were given leftovers as if our meals were thrown together. My daughter’s cheesesteak was burnt. We will not visit this Restaraunt again. $32.00 down the drain. Very diasppointed
Some of the best pita bread I’ve ever had. Food is absolutely delicious. I wish I lived closer!
Normally I dont write reviews for just okay food because nothing compels me to do so. Although, their house dressing is quite delicious and may be the only thing that keeps me coming back.Im saddened to say that today, while in the middle of eating my takeout (Doordash) I found a large bug with wings underneath my lettuce. I confused it for an olive multiple times while eating. It was not a pleasant experience at all.UPDATE:There was definitely a communication breakdown when I reported the incident to the restaurant. I emailed the owner and he did bring clarity to the customer service miscommunication as he promised he would. The owner did offer his deepest apologies and also offered me a gift card for my bad experience.
Dont want to be negative, but I have to share my experience and everything that was wrong:01 - The restaurant is under-staffed. The waitresses are so crazy busy that they speed talk. They work both the front counter as well as wait tables, preventing them from focusing on their customers and the quality of the food.02 - My waitress failed to bring out the appetizer that I ordered. She did hear me ask for it, because she asked me to repeat it, and then she wrote it down.03 - I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Dinner. There is nothing Greek about this dish. It was chicken and vegetables stir fried in olive oil. We also ordered the Moussaka Dinner, which was way overdone in two ways. They over cooked the pasta to the point that it was mushy, and the overall dish was over-baked, making the cheese outside hard. The Grape Leaves were good.04 - Its expensive. For the quality of food I received....05 - If the owner replies back with we have the best and most authentic Greek in town, well, all I have to say is yeah maybe in Charlotte. But not anywhere near as good as NY Greek. This was my opinion. Perhaps the waitresses and cooks were just having a bad day and/or under-staffed.
I have been following this restaurant on IG for a while and the food always looks so delicious. One day while on this side of town I decided to give it a try. I ordered a traditional gyro it was really filling and tasty along with fries. The fries were ok. It also came with a good size salad. Along with that I ordered my children a tenders dinner to share. Unfortunately only one of 3 liked the chicken tenders they were a little on the dry side. They all liked the fries and bread and enjoyed my salad as well.I love the convenience of ordering online. This feature is always a plus for me at any restaurant. They also have really good customer service. The staff greets you upon entering.I might try this place another time when I’m craving another gyro and on their side of town. Check them out for your Greek food needs.
The service was good and the food was great. The aesthetics of the indoor seating are a bit lacking but the food is absolutely delicious. The hummus was especially tasty.
Good Foodcame out FastWait staff on point
I go here once in a full blue moon because it’s truly a treat that I do not wish to spoil! The Lamb is a mouthwatering experience Everytime! Also...the Espresso here is really good. A very traditional atmosphere, and always good service. Will be coming back again Very soon.
Food is always great however the two young women that work in the evening one has dark brown hair and the other one is blonde. They are both condensing and rude. They both need training on how to deal with Latinos and African-Amercian individuals. They need not to overcharge for things because we dont look like them.
Good gyro, excellent service, clean place i recomend 100%
