Needed to sell our car and had previously sold another to CarMax and that was a great experience, so decided to return and sell another car to them. The second time was just as great as the first and maybe a bit better! From the moment we got there everyone was helpful and very accommodating. The store was very busy and yet we were greeted and cared for throughout the process as if we were the only customer! Both times we were very happy with the service we received and with the settlement received on each vehicle. Would return again to sell another car or to buy one, which weve also done! That to was a great experience!

My sister who is in need of a car came here and was treated with little to no respect. she felt that no one wanted to help her and was quickly dismissed when she told them her budget. she was told to go online and look for her self with no help. she quickly turned around and went to the ford dealership where they asked her question and made her feel like they actually knew what she wanted in a car they got her number and are currently looking for a car for her with in her budget.CarMax fix your staff and hopefully you will have a 5 star rating soon.

Great car at a great price. There was a lack of communication after a delay in the car’s transfer from GA. Carmax did waive the transfer fee. I would have appreciated better/more communication about the issues involved in the delay. Once 24 hr test drive and purchase were initiated, the service was excellent

Was horrified that they literally sold me a dirty car. It was obvious that the interior (other than the carpet) had not even been touched by the service department-coffee stains, dirt, grime, etc. It wasn’t an option to get the car serviced while we were there on the weekend and now it has become a huge hassle to get a job done during the week that should’ve been done in the first place. A good business would be beyond accommodating to fix a MAJOR error on their part. I’m only giving them two stars because I did appreciate the no haggle price and they offered us a fair trade on our van, however customer service has A LOT to be desired.

Pros and cons. This business is what it claims to be. Massive selection of used automobiles, cars mostly. And the prices were pretty much in line with Kelly blue book. All of the vehicles (trucks) that I looked at had 24 hour test-drive listed on the pricing information sheet as well as 30-day warranties. The most impressive aspects were the extreme cleanliness of the facility, both inside and out. The floor tiles inside of the business absolutely gleamed. All of the various work stations (which were clearly marked) had a plethora of PPE gear; hand-sanitizer, gloves and masks. All of the work stations were situated farther apart than the recommended 6 feet. No pressure sales seemed like a very good business tactic. But actually finding a salesperson, was also not that easy. Most of the clients seemed to be selling their vehicles, rather than purchasing a vehicle. When I finally located a salesperson and asked about a complete cash transaction and any accompanying discounts, I was told absolutely not. Im not sure how anyone else in particular would view this, but if I was a business owner(corporate enterprise or not), I most certainly would not ever turn down a $20,000 cash offer, without offering some type of incentive, reduction etc., however minuscule in size. My experience buying the car was great and very smooth my only issue is they detailed my car in less than 30 mins and did a horrible job. Luckily my boyfriend details cars but if he didn’t I would have had to pay to get it re detailed because the job was that bad. There’s Cheetos under the seat, dust and crumbs all over the interior it’s like they didn’t even clean the interior and the outside wasn’t great either. Had I bought a cheap car it wouldn’t be as big of a deal but I bought a Mercedes and it was filthy. Detailing has its name for a reason if they aren’t going to pay attention to the details they might as well not even offer it.

Employees all courteous and helpful, but the entire process of selling the car took entirely too long. We were told it would take 30 minutes for appraisal and it took much longer. Then all paper work took almost another two hours. Just too much waiting!!!!!

My husband and I had a great experience shopping at CarMax for a vehicle to replace my old one. We found just the car at another CarMax location and they had it shipped to this one for us to test drive. Yes, it took about ten days to get it here, but in the meantime, they made sure that everything was running right and honestly -- the 2018 car we got looked brand new! Im so excited! Never called us when our car had arrived from Hickory. So when carmax called and why we hadn’t set up a time to look at the car we were surprised because the app said it was being checked for the last 8 days. The person calling said our car had been ready for days. We found out when we got there that our trade in appraisal had expired.We arrived for our 7:30 PM appointment and no one was ready to help us for 15 minutes. Once we received assistance the person helping us was struggling while 2 managers sat in chairs a short distance away on their phones. When my wife around 9:00 PM walked up to them and asked why they were not helping us when they could see their employee struggling? One started helping.We finally left at 10:30 P.M. Filling out the paper work for financing and the appraisal did not make the experience faster for us. But don’t worry the manager told us if we came back in the next day he would top off the tank for us. What a time.

Easiest car buying experience Ive ever had. I shopped online, had the car shipped out to this location and then worked with an in-person sales associate to finalize everything. The sales associates name was Alan and he was by far one of the friendliest, most helpful salesmen Ive ever worked with. My advice: Check the online inventory and research cars you are interested in, THEN go check things out in person. If you come prepared, the whole process seems to go smoothly. Also get Alan if you can! He was awesome A++

I sold my car to CarMax after receiving my online offer. I gave them my lender payoff instructions and time frame to pay it off. Over two weeks laterthey still havent paid off my bank loan and they currently has my car on display for sale at their store while I still make payments. I contacted their home office and was given a complete runaround about when this would be handled. I contacted the business office and was basically told tough luck After reading several reviews here that seems to be the general attitude at this store.

Processed an online quote, two weeks later went to the dealership and they offered us $800 less than was initially quoted for our vehicle. Car wasn’t clean. 3 rd CarMax car and this one was by far the worst and the last I will buy. The only person that made my experience 5 star was Tyger my service specialist. She listened and made the requested repairs. CarMax is not doing what they are supposed to do when it comes to cleaning and preparation for owners to take their new vehicle

I came in to sell my car based on a quote that I received from Edmunds appraisal site and CarMax didnt budge from the offer. They offered exactly what Edmunds said it was worth, which I was very pleased with. The entire process took about 1-2 hours, but I walked out with a check for the difference after it was over. Jack was awesome in assisting me in the process. I highly recommend any and everyone to check CarMax first and just sell there. There was, literally, no hassle.

CarMax on Independence BLVD in Charlotte NC was AWESOME! Great service great people, great experience. CarMax of Columbus OH where the car was shipped from didn’t do as great of a job. There was a tear in the leather interior (after SPECIFICALLY asking about tears in the leather—Charlotte fixed this whole I was doing paperwork BTW!) tear in the rear sunshade, and a grimy interior that clearly didn’t get the attention it needed to be sold by the Columbus OH CarMax. The online staff was SUPER friendly and helpful but the Columbus crew definitely rushed this car to get it out and didn’t live up to the reputation that the rest of my experience set.

The worst experience I’ve ever had. I never even got a chance to speak with a salesperson after over a hour and a half wait. I ended up leaving and they called me 20 minutes after I left. I informed him of the situation and he offered no apology or anything. I thought it would be such an easy process since I came with cash in hand. Welp I guess not. I will never do business with carmax if that’s how they treat potential customers.

She listened to everything I said and delivered. I went in set on getting a totally different car but came out with a great deal. I love my Hyundai Sonata so far. 1) Train your salesperson (over 65+ years old so he should know better!!!!) not to discuss an offer/appraisal in front of a waiting room full of people! We were shocked when we stood up to walk to a table and he just handed us the offer and sit down!! IN THE SERVICE WAITING ROOM! (1st time weve ever had that happen after buying MANY cars since 03 from Carmax!)2) Train your salesperson not to belittle your customers after they state they dont accept the offer by stating you cant expect to walk in here and get more than what you paid (laughed out loud) then proceeds to say thats not how this works Thats rude, condescending and unprofessional! Especially considering our offer was $9000 below what we paid less than 2 months ago (Cash by the way, no lean on the vehicle)3) Train your staff to be knowledgeable on all vehicles or atleast know the difference in models! We understand our vehicle is new, 2021...but thats no excuse for it to take over an HOUR + for an appraisal after being told SEVERAL times its taking so long because its new & has low miles this isnt our first rodeo!!! Weve owned many cars, have purchased our grown kids cars (as teens throughout their college & after they married) we know what were doing (even if we dont divulge that for a simple appraisal!)We will take our business elsewhere, regardless of what it may or may not cost us!!!

Had mostly a good experience at Carmax. The sales rep Charlie was helpful. The car was a good deal. The paperwork in process was pretty easy and quick. Probably an hour and half tops. Only downside was the car had nearly bald rear tires.

***NOT AS ADVERTISED, DISCOURAGING TEST DRIVES***The 24-hr test drive is not at all what is advertised. In the commercials and all the posters people see it says nothing about binding the car to your insurance. I was told numerous times over the phone that all we needed to provided was drivers license and our insurance binder which proves we have full coverage. They also try to discourage you from the 24-hr test drive if you have not intention on buying the car when you return, again not as advertised.I am very disappointed because I wanted to test drive a car I was looking for and I knew that CarMax usually leaves the customer alone when looking. Also, even after getting through the red tape they put up after I told them I was not going to buy the car the next day, they then went to look for a license plate and none were available. It is as if they do not monitor what appointment is for which type of test drive, meaning I did not get to test drive the car. I understand that the state gives them a limited number of plates but they need to better manage the plates compared to the type of appointments they have scheduled.Finally, they then told me that since I had no intentions on buying the car that after this I will be limited to 20 minute test drives. Again, no where on CarMaxs website, commercials, or representative has told me or advertised there is a limit to how many test drives one can do.

I went to Carmax on Saturday 10/02/2021 and seen Tony Mouratides was told I was approve for a 2015 Ford Flex that was on recall that I found out about I test drove the vehicle taught all was good they had me get the insurance and just as I taught I was leaving with my new vehicle they said that approval was change as I was up to the window about to sign documents and then was told to get a letter of work verification which I got and sent them a copy in was told i could back in pick the car around 6 pm and when I got there the person I was supposed to see was not there they should have known the requirements before wasting my time and keep in mind they promise I would be driving and waste money on Uber’s to go back in fourth

I recently bought a car from Carmax in Charlotte, NC and got to say that it was BY FAR the easiest, most pleasant buying experience I have ever had. I always knew about the no haggle car buying process with helps you know that you are getting a good deal or at least the same deal as the next person next to you. On top of that, I had 3 offers for my vehicle which they beat by $2,000 to the next highest bidder. The other companies came back with the same offer, only after Carmax offered it on their first assessment. So that alone deserves a five star rating in my opinion.To make it that much better, I have had my car for 3.5 months now and am just outside of the 3 month limited warranty, standard with the sale of the vehicle from Carmax dealerships, when I find out that my water pump has gone bad. Immediately they asked to help with the pricing of the repair and called the repair shop and were able to reduce the price by nearly 20%. On top of that what absolutely blew my mind was that since I was only a few days outside of my warranty, they said that as a one time courtesy and as an appreciation for working with them, that they would be covering the cost of the repair.I will 1000% be a customer of Carmax again.

My experience with my appraiser and the business office was very good. Both were very helpful and made the transaction very smooth. However, my other experiences were not as satisfactory. I made an initial appointment to have my car appraised and to test drive a vehicle. Unfortunately, after checking in with the front desk, somehow my appointment was lost or overlooked as I waited 45 minutes to meet with someone... and then only after I approached the desk again to inquire about my appointment. Also, I was very disappointed the condition of the vehicle I test drove. The front end was badly out of alignment. Im not sure how this couldve been overlooked unless the car had not been test driven by a Carmax employee. Having to replace the two front tires on a car with less than 7k miles on it shouldve been a clue that the was a problem and to at least test drive it. When I shared this with the salesman he checked to see if a tech could look into. It was going to be a couple of hours before this could occur and I could not wait that long. I told the salesman that if the problem was corrected I would still be interested in the car. He assured me that it would be looked into and that he would call me in the next day or two. I never heard back from him and the car sold later that week. It makes me wonder if the issue with the car was ever corrected and was just sold to someone else as it was. Again, positive interaction with those appraising my car and the business office... but I would have to seriously think about purchasing a car at Carmax in the future.

BEST USED CAR DEALERSHIP EVER!!!! My mom used to go to them when I was younger but of course I was oblivious then. I was looking for a car on car max for about a week but they kept getting taken so finally I found one in VA but after I had waited too long the representative in VA, mind you in NC, stayed on the phone with me for about an hour until we found a car similar to the one I wanted and held it for me. So once I was ready to take my car home, I wasn’t able to get to carmax until 8:30 mind you they close at 9 but HUGE THANKS to Michael for being dedicated to me driving off with my car at 9:45 pm. Customer service beyond excellent, I LOVE IT HERE!

I came in today to pick up a car for their 24hrs test drive, I schedule my appointment with Carmax over the phone with one of their reps. She told me to bring my license and insurance and the car would be waiting for me once I arrived. I was greeted at the entrance by Charlie told him what I was there for. We walked over to a desk and first thing he ask me is my social....I said why Im not purchasing the vehicle yet only here for a test drive. He than said oh and walked away to get the correct paperwork, brings it over fills out I signed and he says meet me outside while I bring the vehicle around. He brings me the vehicle and states I have 20min to test drive. I say...No. I requested a 24hr test drive and I already mention that. He than states we have to go back inside to fill out other paperwork. I go back inside and ask me for my insurance again, which I already provide and he took a photo of it. He states no I need proof you have full coverage, he should had asked for that from the beginning and would have known I do have full coverage. He just kept giving run around...after that I walk out. Will not return in the future for vehicle purchase...they lost out on 38k sale today.

AVOID CARMAXI am writing on behalf of Earl Holmes (current Carmax customer) Avoid business with Carmax, as well as, any warranty products offered (Fidelity purchased), through Carmax.It is disappointing when you gift your business to a company, only to have it minimized and disrespected.I took my truck for service on the steering column of my truck (under warranty). I learned that the parts required, are currently on back order. Obviously, when you are dealing with necessary repairs around steering of a vehicle, personal safety should be top of mind for all parties concerned. It is not for Carmax.My warranty with Fidelity, alotted for a 7 day rental, which is less than needed due to the part being on back order. Following a day of phone calls, as well as a return to Carmax to partner on suitable options, none were offered. As a matter of fact, their dismissive attitude was painfully disappointing. No solution was offered. Not a rental extension, not a loaner. They released my car without repair and dismissed me to be on my way without ANY REGARD FOR MY SAFETY.It is important that I warn as many potential customers as possible to steer clear. Take you hard earned dollars elsewhere. Please post and share this message so we can protect potential purchasers from doing any business with Charlotte based Carmax.ECHO CARS is located as well on Independence Drive in Charlotte. Their customer service is top flight. Make a u-turn and visit Echo. The staff is knowledgeable and willing to assist at all cost. The selection is plentiful and the service depart and warranty options are second to known.

I was selling my car to CarMax and had an online offer from them. When I came in I ask to be in the car when they test my car. They said no problem! Then the tester came and the story changed. The manager said they have a policy that not allow me in the car because Covid 19. I ask to see the written policy. He said there is none, and, you dont have to sell car to us!So if you can sell your car in private market you should absolutely do that! I had no choice to sell to CarMax because I need to sell quickly!

Me and my husband purchased a 2019 Ford Transit Connect XL recently. (We needed to upgrade to something bigger because we have 4 children). We purchased a Honda Pilot from the CarMax in Charlotte. While the staff were kind and helpful, the experience was pretty painful. The car is great and no problems there. But the process took over four hours! There were errors in the paperwork that had to be reconciled which added to the time it took. The worst part is that the mileage on our paperwork is significantly less then the the mileage in the car such that our warranty is impacted-essentially cut by a quarter. So double check that detail. The only solution they have offered is to buy the car back and sell it right back to us!! Not a solution. I will not buy a car from this CarMax again. It was not how car buying should be.

My husband and I dont have the best credit due to some medical bills which just could not be paid. But we needed a dependable car to get my husband back and forth to dialysis treatments. The young lady that helped us could not have been more patient and she let us drive a couple of vehicles so we could make a good decision before buying. (If that would even happen.) We had been turned down so much lately that I didnt even want to go. The banks still turned us down, but CARMAX saved the day and financed a great 2012 Chevrolet Impala for us. We have already made a payment early and given this chance will be sure to make all payments on time and go there again if we should ever need another car. By the way, we purchased our last 4 vehicles from CARMAX.Thanks for everything you do to help people in need.

I had reserved a test drive at 1pm today for a truck I had transferred in from another CarMax. I arrive 10 min early for my test drive only to find out they had just sold the truck I had reserved and came to test drive. I had been looking forward to this truck for days, wasted a good amount of time driving to and from this CarMax and going through the paperwork. I have been shopping CarMax to avoid the games and hassle of normal car dealerships but this CarMax screwed me over more than any dealership I have dealt with.

The selling experience was relatively easy and the offer was great and in line with the other offers we received.One associate in the business center was incompetent by mansplaining to my wife that she cannot sell a car with a lienholder since we do not physically hold the title. He was not only highly incorrect, but rude and condescending. Luckily, every other employee at CarMax knew better.

In and out. My salesperson was great and helped ease the process. I didnt like having to move to different computers so often. It would have been better if there were dedicated offices because once you got up to do something with the sales person, that seat is GONE to the next- you def know you are in a sales atmosphere

I have never been to a more unprofessional place in my life where I had to feel like I was being racially profiled. We drove all the way from South Carolina in search of a car and got the pre-approval and brought the documents we needed. However the sales associate was patient enough to try and work with us and seemed to understand more than the sales manager Raleigh. I understand the document we had needed more information however if you were able to ask me to print it there and was missing information and I asked if I went to the bank to get the proper document how in the hell are you going to tell me you can’t accept the document that you were just about to take that I printed off the computer and say you can’t take a printed copy from the bank the ignorance of a poorly trained sales manager. The sales rep understood and was trying to explain to the sales manager but the lack of common understanding is relevant that she had no intention of helping and then wants to say she thinks are paycheck stubs not original. How are you going to tell me that my paystubs my company sends me are fake if they match the bank statement. We we’re willing to drive back an hour to get the bank statement showing our name on it but she wants to say she can’t take a copy but they took the copy that was printed. Then we tried to speak with a supervisor over the phone and got placed on hold for about 25 minutes and then they stopped answering any calls. CarMax is this how you run your business you lost a client that was ready to buy a car all for the lack of common sense of your sales manager. That type of person should not have a title as manager if they can’t even understand their clients where as your sales rep understood and was told no by her manager in charge. I never got a answer when I call they let the phone continue ringing!!Never coming back again!!!

I am a mother and hospital employee who has been put through more than I can bear with carmax. Ive had to return a total of 2 cars due to issues found with the vehicle and am currently waiting on a refund of my deposit for the last one bought last week. I was assured by the dealership that it would be rushed to me but instead found out that corporate relations sent regular mail. If you value good service and quality cars I would not recommend carmax.

Visit was good. Vehicle and buying situation were far from ideal. After waitingn2 months for the vehicle to be ready because of damages in travel there is still a buffing compound of some kind covering the top of it, there are large amounts of paint chips and dings on driver side passenger door covered with fresh sharpie marker and weather stripping is heavily damaged on the door as well. The lack of communication was absurd, no one met us to say sorry our sales man knew nothing of the situation. It was just go about the day like nothing happened.

Im EXTREMELY disappointed with the vehicle I bought from this establishment. I bought this car on June 11th; as of July 23rd, Ive had to get my car jump started at least 6 times, 4 of those times being in same week, and two of those times being within the same day. Its taking longer and longer to charge everytime I need a jump now (Im probably going to bed a new battery and battery terminals due to all of the corrosion on them), and I now cannot turn my car off at all without needing to jump it in order to get it to turn back on. And after the last time I had to get it jumped, once it came back on, the check engine light was on. It also seems to be leaking something, and the battery started SMOKING after the last jump start! So no, I do not recommend CarMax to anyone!

Donna was really helpful. She showed us all the cars we wanted to see - except the one she couldnt find (which I wasnt that interested in). I felt at one point she was pushing me toward a car that I really didnt like, but she quickly gave up the sales pitch.I asked that CarMax remove the CarMax sticker on the back of the car I purchased and clean one of the hubcaps that was dirty from one of the employees sideswiping a curb. They removed the sticker and failed the clean the hubcap, so I was pretty satisfied with those requestsRebel, the person who handled all the title and legal paperwork, was awesome.
