Love this place, 10% off with great stock of everything from hiking shoes to snow pants. I actually like this place more than REI because I feel like the prices are more reasonable and the service is great. I also love the free community classes they offer. I was able to take a yoga class here and really enjoyed it. I love the community feel of Sports Basement and have always had a great experience no matter what I buy.Did I mention they allow dogs in the store unlike REI?
In spring 2019 we rent our bicycles there for a whole week. The price was really fair. He offered us a discount. Staff there is very nice and helpful. Highly recommendation!
Had some minor repairs done on my bike. Tech seemed genuinely enthusiastic to work on my bike, called and left a detailed message when it was done, and the price was very reasonable.
In love this place! Staff is the best and theyre always ready to help. Theyre right next to a BART entrance and open early, with a self serve option right next door.
Great people, friendly and competent. I rather bring my bike here for special repairs I cannot do myself than anywhere else. That way I hope to support as well the free valet service and parking they offer: a valuable service for the community. Hopefully you will do the same.
Free bike parking and very reasonable rates on repairs. Ive been going here off and on for about 6 months now. The attitudes change depending on who is working, but theyve always been respectful - sometimes a bit bored and callous. To the people who say theyre rude... they see hundreds of people every day! you cant expect them to be best friends with everyone who walks in the door.
Good facilities, good repair services reasonable prices.
Friendly and Helpful staff plus free bike valet that is never full.
The staff was really unhelpful. I couldnt get a straight answer to my questions and didnt really feel like they were interested in helping
Great valet parking service. Also have repair services run by women mechanics!
Friendly, helpful, quick fix for a part that broke. Tons of bike parking available at their new location.
The staff are very helpful and friendly when I want to park my bike - its a great service.
I personally avoid this place, i dont feel like alameda bicycle really wants to help the berkeley community of cyclists in downtown. Many of us can not afford outrageously expensive 700-4000$ pro bicycles and thats the only thing this bike station is actually willing to repair. If you have a department store bike THEY WILL REFUSE TO REPAIR IT! I have a simple 200$ road bike from GMC and a mountain bike from jeep. I got hit by a black lady on King st Bicycle boulevard between harmon and alcatraz on king st and after that i was taken to alta bates with serious minor injuries to my knee, face, and a very painful brused hand and leg. Please avoid using king st its actually very dangerous use adeline and take up the full lane as you are allowed to as a bicyclists. (And for god sakes wear a helmet mine saved my life!) anyways i took my bike to these guys at the bike station, the guy seemed very knowledgeable and did an estimate on my bike to tell me how much it would cost to be repaired which came out to be roughly 153$ (the bike was maybe worth 230$) as thats a crazy amount of money that i didnt have obviously i couldnt afford to get my bike fixed the guy at the shop basically suggested i just buy a new bike because the repairs it needed were so extensive and expensive. i left the bike station and have never gone back since because they suck. They are also often understaffed it took them a day to actually look at my bike and figure out how much it would cost. Ive never used their bicycle parking area or bathroom so i dont know how that is but they ask you not to leave your bike in there overnight because in their infinite wisdom they made a class window next to the bicycle parkin inside where thiefs can gaze in at what bikes are inside waiting to be stolen. its actually probably fairly secure but since i live in downtown right by the library it seems pretty pointless for me. If you need your tires pumped up i guess they have a free pump but since they arent always open it has limited hours of use. I Always go up to kittredge st by oxford(or fulton whatever that st is near campus) and ask them inside to turn on the air and then just fill my tires up there and im on my way. If you do not want to use the bike station for repairs and such i suggest going a bit further up to shattuck and university avenue and get your bicycle repaired at Missing Link Bicycle co-op annex(thats on the east side of shattuck) and they will repair any kind of bike INCLUDING DEPARTMENT STORE BIKES! =] they also have free classes in the fall on bicycle repairs so you can save money and do the work yourself the west side of the missing link store on shattuck has its own repair area workspace where you can go and make your own repairs if you know what you are doing. they also have a free bike pump there. the bike station though in downtown is nothing more than i gimmick though so thats why it only gets two stars from me. I also read on here that apprently they discriminate against the disabled? Id certainly boycott them if i wasnt already if thats true. Disabled folk have really hard lives and they work their butts off to live a happy and normal life that non disabled people simply take for granted, there is so much hardship and suffering that comes with being disabled being disabled doesnt make you any less of a person it just means you have to work harder so if they are indeed discriminating against the disabled thats pretty screwed up. Long live the ADA!
Great customer service and repair prices
Im writing because I consider that these guys have the worst kind of attitude, one where they talk like they have a professional attitude in order to pressure you for unneeded services, but actually give negligent and unsafe service. The basics of it is I picked up my bicycle from them last night and after I rode it in my usual morning commute, the handlebar stem somehow came loose and turned at a wrong angle. I am grateful this did not occur while I was going downhill from the Berkeley Hills.Thats bad enough since they charged me $90 for a tune up. But on top of that they performed a repair I told explicitly not to do, I told them not to change my chain and they did it anyways and tried to charge me for it.Even from the get-go I was suspicious of their motives because they told me all my cables needed to be replaced because they were all on the verge of breaking. That is ridiculous, this is a one year old bike that I have kept in good shape because it is my main commuter bicycle. So, do not agree to any repairs from these guys unless they do it in writing. But really I cannot recommend to go to them at all unless I hear what corrective action they are taking for providing such negligent and unsafe service.
Great staff working there
A little bit Pricey
