My experience at Brooklyn Bike Doctor has been exceptional, so far. I brought my e-bike to Alex for a major overhaul, and he completed the work quickly, and he did quality work at that. Alex was great about communicating the status and eta on the repairs throughout the day. He also provided great value. On a funny note - when calling around about the repairs i needed done, one particular bike shop (not going to say who) referred my repair job to Alex at Brooklyn Bike Doctor, which is why i ended up going there. The rival shop tech said: if he cant fix it, it cant ve fixed,.. I was Sold at that point.

My call was answered immediately and I was able to get my bike reassembled from shipping in under 2 hours. The gentleman was very helpful and showed me what could be done to improve my bike’s performance without pushing or pressuring for me to do so. Alex replaced my brake pads, fixed the oil on my hydraulic brakes, and fixed my gear-shifting problem on my electric bicycle in a very timely fashion at a very reasonable price. He even went above and beyond by giving suggestions on how to warm my brakes up to prevent it from squeaking. I strongly recommend that anyone whose bicycle needs some tune up to go to this place. I’d come here again if my bicycle needed anymore repairs.

Alex is great. Hes always very helpful and his prices are very reasonable. One time, I needed help with my girlfriends tubeless tires. He helped me put some of the liquid in them and told me how to fix them in the future. He also gave me the little tool to take the valve core out. He didnt want to charge me anything for it, but I refused to leave without him taking at least a good tip.

I was in need of some repairs on my sons bike so I Googled bike repair near me. I typically work on my own bicycle because Im usually not satisfied with the quality of work nor customer service of most Austin bike shops. I stumbled across the Brooklyn Bike Doctor while running errands in East Austin. I went in to buy a couple of parts but was instantly pleased with the knowledge and friendly service of the stuff that I decided to leave my bike for parts installation. The work was completed the same day and the price was very reasonable. Most importantly, the Brooklyn crew treated me like a values customer. They were professional and friendly. Amazing work on rear wheel 3 speed hub for my ebike. 1 year later and Im having a front tire built!

This guy could definitely rub some people the wrong way with his no-nonsense attitude, but he gets work done quickly and effectively. Tough to find in this town.

Called around 4:30 asking if I needed an appointment, he said no to just come on in before they close(6 pm). Got there around 5 and fixed my tire in under 15 minutes! Pointed out other issues on my bike and gave me a quote but I didn’t have time today. I will definitely come back again if I ever need anything else taken care of. 100% recommend.

I have a crummy second-hand mongoose that needed work. Alex was honest enough to tell me that the cost of repair given the value of the bike wasnt worth it. I appreciate that. Alex is the best bike mechanic I have worked with in Austin. I have older Campagnolo 10 speed on my road bikes and most shops in Austin are clueless when it comes to working on Campy shifters. Alex diagnosed my shifting problem to a broken part in my right shift lever. He completely rebuilt the lever, replaced the broken part and had my bike back to me in 4 days. If you run Campagnolo you owe it to yourself to work with Alex — he is a true professional.

One of the issues with building custom electric bikes is trying to guess spoke length and gauge. BBD has saved my projects countless times when Ive guessed wrong. They send the to-spec spokes out crazy fast with perfect measurements. If you want spokes done right & ahead of schedule Brooklyn Bike Doctor is the place.

Originally found Brooklyn Bike Doctor online and needed some help with a bike I was building. He met me, gave me a quote and finished work in 24 hours. Brought a wheel issue to him next, after other bike shops wanted a fortune and told me to replace them, and he did a fantastic job, even recommending (halfway through the work) a cheaper option. I needed a custom 24 Nexus 3 wheel built for my eBike. I dropped off the rim and hub that evening and picked up my perfect wheel the next morning. It came to $75 less than anyone else in town was asking. This guy is definitely a pro!

Want to give a shout out to Alex, the owner of Brooklyn Bike Doctor who went above and beyond the call of duty last night.I needed a front hub motor laced into a rim on short notice. Alex managed my tight schedule and allowed me to hang out with him while he worked as I drove an hour to get there.I arrived at Brooklyn Bike Doctor at about 8:20 with the rim, motor and spokes that I had purchased elsewhere. While he would have installed the skinny (14 gauge) spokes that I brought with me, he strongly suggested that I use thicker ones that would be better equipped to handle the torque requirements of the motor. Im happy that I took his advice.It was amazing to watch this craftsman as he meticulously measured the hub motor and rim, computed the offset for the disk rotor and spoke length. Then he cut and threaded them all on a manual machine that he operated like someone who has been using it for 20 years, which coincidentally he has.The second half of the project consisted of installing and tightening the spokes and truing the wheel. Then he manually applied side loads to simulate riding and then trued it again. It was obvious that Alex was not going to let me or that wheel leave his shop unless he was satisfied it was perfect.When I finally dd leave, it was almost 11pm. Im confident that I could have gotten that level of service, or the friendly conversation, at any other bike shop in the City. Thank you Alex!

There is an Eastern European man who is simply the rudest bike shop worker(or owner ) I’ve ever met. Seems like they don’t understand the friendly environment that usually rule bike shops. They should go check other shops out to see how fellow bikers treat each other.I walked in asking to use a 3mil hex key to tighten my seat. That was it. A 5 second fix. The guy told me in a very rude manner that he didn’t work for free and that this service would cost a whole $3.Instead of giving my money to these greedy shortsighted owners I went a couple blocks down and got this done... for free. Then I left a $3 tip to the guy who friendly let me borrow his tool.You can’t buy good vibes. And good vibes attract business. Good luck keeping this shop open.

I tacoed my front wheel in the middle of the COVID shutdown. The Brooklyn Bike Doctor (BBD) was the only one I could find and he fixed my wheel in no time. Amazingly, the wheel I never expected to be true is almost as true as the day it left factory. Then I tacoed another wheel. Bike Doctor fixed it too! And then he built me a custom wheel with the rim/hub/spokes I chose. And this wheel has stayed true despite all the abuse I put it through.BBD fixed bent derailleur hangers on two bikes, upgraded fork and drivetrain on my sons bike. He shortened excessively long shifter cables and my shifting is the best it has ever been.Im a regular customer, I am a big guy and I ride more aggressively than I should. I break things. But every time I pick up my bike from the Doctor it feels and runs as new. He is always professional, courteous, and responsive.I wholeheartedly recommend Brooklyn Bike Doctor! If you have a bike and you want to keep it in good shape - call the Doctor!

The Brooklyn Bike Doctort is a Bike Friday dealer. I was looking to get a tweak on my Pocket Rocket and initially reached out via the info email on the Doctors website. Within 10min I had response which led to me deciding to go the next weekend. This is the first bike Ive had with disc brakes and I wanted some help on adjusting. I met Alex. I had done another tweak on my own and he assessed and felt they werent bad. I had about 1,000 mi on it so I decided to leave with him for a tune up. Picked up few days later and was and now few days and miles later, quite pleased. Great job! Alex is patient, does not push unnecessary needs and knows what hes doing and pricing very fair. I will definitely go back!

He has never over-charged me for repairs not needed, and I can guarantee my bike is in good hands when I take it in. The guy working there with a Russian accent has a bad attitude. Whenever I’m there i feel unwelcome. Me and my husband fixed our inner tubes there many times but they always break within few days. Bad quality. It’s literally around the corner from my house, but i guess I’d rather walk few blocks now for a better service.

Service and repairs are done quickly, and always at a very fair price, less than larger shops charge. Alex has been taking care of my bikes for years, most recently he carefully packed and shipped two bikes for a tour in California and just now reassembled them on their return, and I couldnt be happier.

I went in this morning to get my pedals removed, they just wouldnt budge when I tried myself at home without a stand. I was in a rush but I didnt even mention it. He quickly threw my bike up on the stand and I was done in under 5 minutes. He offered me some grease for free to save me buying a tube, but I bought the full tube because he was so fast.

Hes an expert on high quality bikes including rare and vintage models- he has the tools necessary to do precise work - My bikes are expensive, classic models - Hes the only one I trust with them.

Im a bike commuter and I needed to have my tires changed and the brakes removed because I had switched to a fixed. The simple explanation couldnt have been more painful. He just didnt want my business... I did finally get him to do it, it wasnt cheap, but I now take my biking needs to Landmark.

This place is the real deal. Id ridden to work, picked up a slow leak, and was fully flat when I walked out, of course in a hurry to get somewhere on time. Didnt catch the guys name, but I presume hes the owner, and he had me back out the door in three minutes. $18.50 for tube and install, seems fair to me.Honestly I was more impressed with his demeanor. Ive never seen a mechanic like this guy (car, motorcycle, bicycle etc.) I only talked with while he was ringing me up, but hes competent, kind, and interested in what he does. He didnt come off like an affected hipster who want you to think hes cool first, and knowledgeable second, and he didnt come off like a salesman wanting to push parts, and he didnt come off like a know-it-all.FWIW, Im not a bike nut, and I dont understand why people exercise, so you might not find what you need in this shop if bike culture matters to you, or if you wear those funny jerseys (maybe he sells them, I didnt look). Im only a practical seasonal commuter, but Im serious about my bike as a tool. 15 miles round trip, rain or shine in the spring and fall, but deep winter and high summer are too much for me. And when I talked to this guy, I felt like there was an understanding. I know how silly that sounds, and I dont care. I liked this place a lot.As for reports of rudeness, I dont know. Its hard to take you guys seriously. Lets have a poll: sound off if you have worked at least one consecutive year of laboring at production, service or retail, *and* you think this guy was rude to you.Anyone? No?

Alex is a great bike mechanic and can fix and tweak your 6grand carbon race bik,e as well as your fifty bucks piece of junk, like no other in the neighbor. He has a great bike shop which looks and smells the way a bike store should look and smell. His prices are real and honest, and hes not willing to negotiate them - I guess this pisses off a of people paying 3 grand to rent a shoe box and looking to scrap a dollar here and there to buy lunch.

Hi, i laced the wheels up tonight and the spokes looked great. Well rolled threads and consistant lengths. Very much appreciated! I worked in a pro shop in upstate ny for 8 years when i was a teen/young adult and developed a love for all things classic cycling and wheel building was one of those things. I would strip wheels that had bad hubs for the rims and vice versa and frankenstein a wheel out of two or three bad ones. Taught me a lot. But i worked for a man who was big on not wasting stuff and appreciating the older stuff even once the new stuff had come out. That was what drew me to your shop. When i saw the cut piece of tube around each of the spoke sets as a rubber band it just made me smile. Thanks again for a smooth transaction and well done parts!
