Bought a high end bike recently. Small place looks like a western bar/place to tie up your horse. I was helped by Don. They are nice people. Friendly, knowledgeable and patient. Went back for some minor things and they recognized me and called me by name. Kind of cool. Based on my experience of individual care and attention Im down with using them for my future biking needs. I didnt feel like a number. Family operated. Austin flavor for sure. I try to shop local.

Dishonest and unprofessional.Brought in my bike with a broken chain and for a tune up. They said the front derailleur mount is twisted and need to replace to tune up correctly. When they called me its done, I paid for the chain, the new mount and the tune up.When I got home I realized if I shift on the small ring on the front and any of the 3 biggest rings on the rear, the chain rubs the derailleur. (NOT cross shifting) I brought back the bike and a mechanic worked on it for like 5 minutes. First he wanted to convince me its normal, then he told me they cant do more. I even dare to ask about my twisted mount (as they state) but its already thrown away. They were unable to tune up my bike, gave me no refund only an uninterested Sorry if youre unsatisfied comment. My next stop was Trek Bicycles, they tuned up the bike CORRECTLY for 20 bucks.

I was visiting Austin and ended buying my Cannondale here in Dec. 2019, and the bike has been amazing! I was not sure which type of bike I was going to get, and they guided me pretty good, I tried a couple of them, and they were patient, gave me tips, asked me questions regarding my plan with the bike, etc... I felt really confident on the place, ended buying a couple little accessories too. Also, I liked the fact I can come with them for tune ups, etc. Recommended!

This could be a really special store: lots of space, the best brands, great location, etc.The staff, though, is disappointing. If you are going to cater to triathletes, you should take pride in making sure that your staff can help athletes stay safe and comfortable.Advice such as “..here are some shoes..” and “..here are some saddles..” is not very helpful.

I recently had these guys service the free hub on my gravel bike and it sounds so much more clickier now. I feel so pro every time I freewheel or backpedal. In all seriousness, this store is great. They have a nice selection of triathlon-specific gear and have lots of wetsuits in stock which is rare these days. I purchased a full wetsuit the day before IM 70.3 Waco and was impressed with all the help and guidance I received while choosing a size. Also, the atmosphere is laid back and low pressure which makes the shop approachable for athletes of all levels.

Austin Tri-Cyclist is the best place in Austin for triathletes! I have visited several times for gear and bike tune-ups and have never been disappointed. I finally decided to upgrade from a basic road bike to a tri bike and ATC was the place to go to! They had several options and I am extremely happy with my purchase. Don is very knowledgeable about triathlon and was great in making sure the bike was a proper fit for me and helped me pick out some gear to go along with it.

I went to Austin Tri-Cyclist thinking that I might have a crack in my mountain bike frame, they looked it over after taking it apart and to report back that my bike is good shape. While I was there I asked to do complete overhaul on the bike. They did an amazing job fine tuning my mountain bike, even added some cool features to my bike, small detailed things, only showed to me that they were paying attention to detail. And dont let the name fool you, they also have mountain bikes there too. They have great full bike service at a reasonable price. I will be going back there and now this is where I will taking my bike from now on. Good local bike shop for real riders.

Extremely poor customer service which is very sad to see, when customer service is the only thing bike shops have left to do well in order to support themselves. My boyfriend and I were visiting Austin for a long weekend, and wanted to rent road bikes for the weekend. We called the shop on Wednesday to ask what the selection was and see if we could put two bikes on hold to pick up on Saturday. On the phone, the employee was easy enough to talk to and he said hes holding two road bikes in our size for us to pick-up on Saturday and return on Monday (size 54 and 58, I believe specialized). We walk in the store, and first off, none of the employees greeted us or even acknowledged that we walked in. The only people we can find working are a few guys in the service area, so we explain to them that we are there to pick up bikes that are on hold for us to rent. They give us confused looks, then laugh and mumble to each other that they sold the bikes we were told were on hold for us to rent. At this point, another employee finally walks up to us and asks us if we need help. We explain the situation, and he tells us that he didnt know about any bikes being held for rental, and that they sold those two bikes that Thursday before. They didnt have any other road bikes in our size for rental, so we left.I understand that bike shops sell their rental bikes - no issue there. However, it would have been nice if they wouldve called us when the bikes they told us were on hold were sold. This way, we could have made plans to find another shop to rent bikes from and avoided the trip out to their shop just to learn that they had sold those bikes. Furthermore, the employee we talked to seemed to have no idea that they were holding those bikes for us, when we had called just a few days earlier to hold them.Again, its very sad to see bike shops with abysmal customer service such as this one. Not being greeted, being scoffed at, but most worst of all, showing up expecting to have bikes for the weekend to learn they were sold for probably less than wed be paying to rent them for 3 days, and we werent told a thing.Thankfully, its only a 5-10 minute walk to Bicycle Sports Shop on Lamar Road. We made our way over there and as soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly employee and taken to the rental station. The employee there was very friendly, and there were plenty of road bike options. We had two bikes for rental 5 minutes after we walked in the door, and for cheaper than Austin Tri Cyclists rental prices (for their non-existent rental bikes). Two stars because I liked the design of the bike shop, but nothing else good to say.

I have had nothing but good experiences dealing with this shop and the people who work there. I get the impression that they use the stuff they sell and it shows. Several years ago, they let me take a Cervelo S5 for a test ride and didnt even ask for a credit card when I rolled it out of the shop. I fell in love with that bike the first few seconds I was on it and promptly purchased one. I have since taken it back to be serviced several times. The mechanics have always done excellent work. I marveled at how nice the bike felt and how smooth all the components operated after these guys gave it a tune up the last time.

ATC is by far the best triathlon shop in Austin. Heck, they were voted the TOP 10 Triathlon shops in the country in 2011. Need I say more? The differences are clear: ATC is a bike shop. J&A, BSS and Performance are stores, like Target, where everything looks pretty on the shelves but at the end of the day, its just another store. While ATC is not shiny and corporate looking, it offers all the things you want in a business in Austin. Real folks, real mechanics getting their hands dirty, and employees who are truly passionate about bikes and tris. Not sales associates who applied for the job just to get the corporate discount.I am fairly new to the tri world, not to mention cycling, so it was a learning curve to understand the differences in bikes, the terminology and what gear worked best for me. It can be intimidating at first. It reminded me of a recurring dream I used to have where I showed up to the first day of school and the teacher was handing out a test, except I didnt know the answers and didnt have time to study b/c, hello, it was the first day but all my classmates around me knew the answers.Well, with the guys help at ATC, they taught all me those things and I learned more about the sport than I ever could from a magazine or youtube alone. Ye ask and ye shall receive. I will tell you, as a person that appreciates straight-forwardedness and directness, I felt very comfortable talking to the mechanics. Others might need their hand to be held or maybe expect a hug on their shopping experience, but I dont. I just want truth even if it hurts and a good bargain (hey, who doesnt?). So thats why I take my $$ to ATC.Ive since bought two bikes from them and all my tri/swim gear. And Missy, the co-owner, is the most knowledgeable wetsuit expert EVER. Not to mention they have the largest wetsuit collection in Austin. She took the time to explain the differences (sleeves vs. no sleeves, long or short, thick or thin) and taking the time for me to try them on to get the proper fit. Thank you Missy! Ill be back.

I had two quite different experiences at this place. The first was several years ago, before their remodeling. I needed to buy some mountain bike tires to replace a pair which were full of embedded cactus-spines. I walked in and was greeted right away. The guy was friendly, but admitted that what they had tended to be high-end stuff which was beyond the budget I quoted. I was going to just buy a patch kit and leave, when he brought me a set of discarded, used tires and told me I was welcome to take them for free. I was very grateful, and the tires actually lasted another two years (on pavement). The second time I went in there, I was looking for a tension bolt for my hand brake, which had fallen off. Like another reviewer wrote here, I waited for 10 minutes or more, without anyone paying me any attention. I stood by the front workbench for quite a while, watching someone work on a bike, with a patient smile locked on my face. That worker actually repositioned himself so that he could turn his back on me. Other staff bustled past me, without so much as a nod or eye contact. And I was the only customer in the whole place at the time! After an eternity passed, a really weird looking guy came out from way in the back. He approached me with his head tilted and eyebrows raised as though it was very odd to find a customer actually in the store. He was skinny, with long hair, pronounced cheekbones, and sort of reminded me of the killer from Silence of the Lambs. His posture resembed either a Skeksis from The Dark Crystal or Wormtongue from Return of the King. The conversation we had was extremely awkward and surreal. This guy behaved as though he had no bicycle knowledge at all, nor had ever had to speak to a customer in his life. As I described the part I needed, his only response was to give me confused, patronizing smirks, and quick little shakes of his head. It was like a Monty Python sketch worked over by Quentin Tarrantino. He kept advancing on me, and so sort of herded me right up to the front of the store and out the door. Well, I got back on my scruffy commoners bike and proceeded around the block where Bicycle Warehouse took good care of me.[ADDENDUM: I actually posted this around 2008, but for some reason Google kept the review nonpublic. I havent been back. Its astonishing how reviewers for this shop still only rate them top notch or rock bottom. The picture I get from reading here, yelp and citysearch suggests that ATC has (or had) a couple of outstanding employees. In my opinion, the credit for positive service goes to those employees, and not to the establishment, owing to the vast differences in quality of treatment there.]
