Craig in the bike shop is the man. His knowledge for bikes is shown through his passion for riding. He will answer any and all of your questions. Very nice a chill dude. Purchased a bike well above the budget I had planned because of the amount of detail and help he provided for us. Definitely going to have him service the bike.S&S has had my business for over 15 years and they will continue to do so.

As other reviewers have noted, Craig in the bike dept is awesome and you should definitely seek out his advice. I needed a hydrating pack and had ordered on online because selection around town was limited. He helped me pick a different pack out that suited me much better, helped fit it and was very patient with me on a couple of different visits. Highly recommend for all your adventuring needs!

I would give 10 stars if I could. Cant say enough good things about this store and specifically Craig and team in the bicycle department. Went in last June looking for a new road bike after searching and searching everywhere (Im 64 235lbs). Needless to say they didnt have anything that would fit me due to the global supply shortage of all things. Craig took my info just in case something came in. I gave it to him thinking Id never hear from them again. Much to my surprise and delight, 2 months later I got a call saying they had like one 62 Cervelo come in for the entire Sun and Ski inventory, meaning one for all of the stores nationwide, and that he could have it shipped to the Austin store and held for me if needed. I was out of the state at the time and would be for the next couple of weeks and they did all of this anyway, without me even being in Texas. After going in to check out the bike (this is in October now) Craig showed me all of the things I needed to make the bike perform to its full potential. Bravo, wish this kind of customer experience could be replicated across the board.

Excellent customer service by Craig at the bike shop. My wife and I recently purchased the Saris Bones 2 bike trunk rack at Sun & Ski. Craig was generous with his time even though it was getting close to closing time on a Sunday evening. He was personable, professional, knowledgeable, and gracious. Craig was also very helpful with the product installation. We were very impressed with our experience. Weve only tried the product once (to get our bikes home that evening), and it worked beautifully. Thank you, Craig and Sun & Ski!

I had a fantastic experience buying new mountain bikes for my son and I at Sun & Ski. The main reason - Craig in the bike dept. I told him we were new to the mountain biking world and he guided us through the whole process and provided so much great advice along the way. I knew Sun & Ski would provide more expertise than a regular sporting goods store, but Craig really exceeded my expectations with his knowledge, friendliness, patience, and professionalism. There are times when you go to a high-end place like this and feel intimidated...it was just the opposite with Craig. We felt welcomed and empowered to jump into the world of mountain biking with great equipment, tips, and knowing that he would be around for any questions we have. THANK YOU Craig!

My husband and I just had the most awesome bike fitting with Craig. I came in with an E bike that was such an uncomfortable ride. Not only is he so knowledgeable with all things bikes, his patience with me (a novice rider) and passion for his work left me loving my bike more than ever. There is NO ONE else I’d ever take a bike to for fittings or repair, he’s your guy! Thanks Craig, really appreciate all your help and guidance.

For those of you considering Sun & Ski Austin for bike purchase, I have to give HUGE PROPS to Craig. Craig is extremely attentive, generous with his time and exertese, and completely unwilling to allow anyone to buy anything they wont be thrilled by. He takes the time to both understand your needs/budget, as well as to watch you use the bike you are interested in, to ensure it fits you well and is setup for you. Even after the sale, Craig continue to make himself available for questions on how to tune your bike to your riding style, size, etc., so you get to most pleasure possible. The same is true with buying bike accessories and tools.Ask for Craig! You will definitely get served.

I truly wonder where all the 4 star reviews come from, my experiences with them have been just like the 1-2 star reviews.I come back in ever few years because it is so close to my house and they have gear for the sports I like. Each time I am quickly reminded of why I stayed away for so long.Their customer service is super slow and you often get someone that has no idea what they are talking about. They sell a ton of stuff and most of it is super pricey but there is no way for their employees to be knowledgeable about all products.Good luck returning anything,. They say they accept returns but, when I attempted to return gloves purchased for me that were too large, they refused to give me anything but store credit even though all original packaging was intact and they did not have the correct size in stock. I asked if they could order it and they said no that the order had been placed for the season. I was told I could use my credit to buy some of the other stuff they sell.... I needed the gloves.Only shop here f you know what you need without guidance, will never need to return anything, dont mind paying premium prices, and have extra time to burn.

Deceptive business practices! I purchased a Cannondale Tango mountain bike for my 14yr daughter 11 months ago and have taken it in for adjustments 3 times. They just cant get it right! This last time I took it in I was told the issue was a worn sprocket. The repair would cost about $80 ($50 for the part and $30 for labor). I agreed to the repair cost and the bike was ready to be picked up about 14 days later. There were 2 issues when I picked the bike up.1.) I was charged $107 for the repair, although I was quoted $80 over the phone. I questioned the delta in cost and the manager said that person who quoted me is new to the role and hell talk to him. Hardly reassuring.2.) This time I test rode the bike before taking it home and while they fixed the chain slip issue, now the front shifter wouldnt shift from 3 to 2. I took it back in a waited for the tech to make another adjustment before I test rode again and confirmed no additional issues. Cant believe they would give a bike back to a customer without test riding to confirm everything was working properly.I was really disappointed in how I was treated and wont be going back.

Sun and Ski MTB: Mountain Bike Needs? Ask Mike!!! Ive been riding MTB for 10+ years (the same hard tail 29r for the last 5) I have upped my needs to a full suspension and i didnt really know what I needed 27.5, 29, Large or XL. I have purchased 3 bikes from Sun and Ski. The most recent purchase was a huge education in MTB differences and clarity between so many choices - Thanks to Mike at Sun and Ski, he pulled me from the fog, uncluttered my choices and ordered my perfect fit. The Occam was the logical choice. Mike has a PHD in Awesome! He asked me a few questions, asked me to hop on a bike and diagnosed my struggle in less than 5 minutes. I had my new ride in a few days. What I failed to mention to Mike, and one of the many reasons i am posting a review, is that he helped several months ago when i purchased a Del Sol as a gift. Again, Mike asked me a few questions about the recipient of the Cruiser and boom. Perfect fit, perfect gift, sound advice, awesome. Mike knows bikes, he is fantastic at getting to the root of what you need in a short time, is thorough, friendly, personable and knows what you need before you do. End the struggle, just ask Mike. Ironically, Occams razor is a philosophical theory, in my opinion, that translate to not to make more assumptions than are necessary to make a decision or take an action and It is futile to do with much more than than is need with few. Sun and Ski and Bikes and Mike.

I just tried to drop off my skis to get mounted before I would need them ready in ten days. Was told I’d need to pay a “rush charge” making the mount cost $150 all in. Excuse me, you’re saying me wanting my skis mounted ten days from now is a rush job? No, get lost.On top of that the ski inventory was quite limited with a seemingly unknowledgeable staff. Will certainly never go here again and wouldn’t advise you to either! Simply put, go to Saint Bernard if you need a ski shop in Austin.

I live out of town and dont have a very good snowboard shop near me. I stopped in because I was looking for a new board, boots, and bindings. Mike was extremely helpful and spent about 45 minutes with me explaining to me the different board types and getting me fitted for the right size boots and bindings. My exact size was not in stock and since I was visiting from out of town he directed me to the website to order and ship directly to me. I felt bad leaving the store and not buying anything, especially after Mike spent so much time with me. So after I left the store that night I ordered a new board I found on sale online, and the boots and bindings Mike recommended. He was extremely helpful and definitely made my experience a great one! Went in to get my snow skis waxed and sharpened. Base price is $40, but was charged an extra $15 because I had rust spots on my edges. I was told it couldn’t be put through their machine and wound require more labor. Isn’t that what the $40 covers? I felt like it was a total money grab, but needed it done. Unfortunately there’s only two places in ATX that service snow skis. When I got to Park City, the same service cost only $25!! I always thought the resorts would charge more, but was wrong. Needless to say, I’ll get it done at the resort in the future.

Particularly if you need ski gear, this is the place to visit in Austin. It has all of the high-priced brand names-- the North Face, Columbia, Patagonia-- but stocks lesser-known brands as well, meaning theres a variety in overall cost. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and did not push the most expensive gear available, which I really appreciated. They even gave me weather updates and insider tips for my ski trip to Breckenridge, CO. They also have some fantastic sales around mid-February if youre looking to invest in some nice ski clothing or gear.

You dont run into people with extensive experience in Colorado all that often but these folks really knew their resorts!
