I had my minivan towed here for a tire fix (blew out the front tire). Great customer service overall. They called me to let me know my tire options and different price points. They provided recommendations without trying to push me towards “extra” or unnecessary work. I appreciated that. The work was done within just a few hours and they called and texted to let me know when my vehicle was ready. I’ll definitely use them for future auto shop work.

I took my car in to get my “check engine” light diagnosed. I made an appt online and was called shortly afterwards to confirm and discuss my issue. I took it in the next morning and after a phone call explaining what was going on, I was emailed an invoice to approve and then the work was done. Very clear communication and the car is all set. Needed my emissions and safety test, and Shirlington Shell made it very easy, fast, and affordable! I dropped off about 9AM to a very nice man who walked me through what they needed to do, they gave me a ~1 hour time estimate. Best part is that theyre right in Shirlington so was able to enjoy coffee and walking around while I waited for their call which came right on time. Paid quickly, car was waiting, and I was on my way. Highly recommend for emissions/safety testing.

After a bad state inspection experience at a different service station last year, I decided to try Shirlington Shell and am so glad I did. The staff was friendly, professional, and kept me in the loop as they did the inspection and required repairs. They even removed the sticky, expired DC parking permit from my windshield, and my car smelled great when I picked it up. Brought an older vehicle in for state inspection and got quoted for thousands of dollars worth of repairs. I decided to take my car to another place for a 2nd or even 3rd opinion and mechanics at the other places mentioned this service center purposefully fails vehicles for state inspection and upcharges the repairs when the issues are usually minimal.On my vehicle, they told me they found an issue with my front control arm - telling me to replace it at ~$800 and when looked at by other mechanics elsewhere, they found only the bushings were the true problem which brought the cost down significantly less. They also said there was a substantial leak in my exhaust but when other mechanics took a look it was a minor repair and only the muffler needed replacing - a $900 vs $400 repairDo not take your vehicle here unless youre willing to pay highway robbery level prices.

The service at Shirlington Shell Service Center is great! They take the time to thoroughly explain everything to you and check-in with cost estimates before proceeding. As someone who knows very little about cars, this is very much appreciated! The two times that my husband and I have come in the staff have been welcoming and helpful! Whenever our cars are in need of a tune up we will be returning to Shirlington!

I had already been impressed with a quick and effective tire repair I received from one of the older gentlemen working here by the time I found myself desperate for brake light repair, so I was already willing to work with them. I also needed an electronic diagnostic for my Mitsubishi and could not find a shop with anyone on staff within a 20 mile radius at any of the shops/dealerships Id called previously who could do it (One dealership asked if I wanted to do a trade in once they returned my call 3 days later). A stop for gas at Shirlington led to a discussion with Newman (please forgive me if this is misspelled or misremembered) who quickly sprung into action to check out the car assured me he could get me scheduled the next morning for work and swiftly get the parts ordered. My taillights also ended up being replaced as well (water damage to the electrical system) and the several labor hours for the diagnostic wasnt cheap, but Mitsubishi parts are always a hassle and Newman was fair and upfront about it. Newmans transparency, professionalism and frequent updates helped soften the blow quite a bit. The Shell team clearly has been trained by someone with an old school approach to customer service as I got a follow up call the day after the repair and a lovely handwritten thank you card from them about a week later. These gestures are rare but simple and extremely effective efforts to ensure customer retention and leave a positive impression. In contrast, all I got from the service register dudes at PepBoys in Annandale a few days prior was unmitigated disrespect. I am not looking forward to fixing something else on this car, but Shirlington Shell will be my first call. Thank you for all of your help; it is much appreciated!

My sons car sat around for the last 8 months while he was away at college. Besides the fact it was of course on “E”and the battery dead, I needed to make sure it was safe to drive.Of course there was a laundry list of what needed to be done, but it’s nice to know of a place to go where I know I won’t be cheated and the quality of the work will be great.Delivered on time at the price of the estimate. Shirlington Shell Service Center runs a first class operation. The do a great job technically but they have the best customer service. They stay in touch and keep you updated. They’re my go to.

They guys who run this shop were so welcoming and honest. My brakes did not pass the state safety (my car is 5 years old and started driving ‘funny’). They were able to get the work done and I picked my car up the next day. I even got a shuttle home. I will use them in the future. I would recommend their business to friends as well.

Went here for my state inspection (procrastinated until the 2nd to last day of the month of course) and had a great experience here. Every single staff member that walked through asked if I had been helped yet (I had). Often times as a woman, when I take my car somewhere they just so happen to find a bunch of extra things wrong with it and that was not the case here. A wonderful shop that I will be happy to return to for next years inspection (and anything else that comes up along the way).

Amazing service!!!! I would recommend this place to anyone!First, this place is fast! Both times Ive gone in were for things I needed to have looked at right away and these guys have been able to help me out on the spot. Second, I am not car person at all so I am always worried I am going to get taken advantage of, but not here! Ron and his associates always take the time to thoroughly explain the issue to me. The most recent time I went in was because of a mistake by a different service center. Rather than charge me to fix it there, which they could have done since I dont know anything about cars, they explained what was wrong so I could have the original service center fix it at no additional charge. They also told me to bring my car back in a week so they could double-check their work this time.Third, this place has a shuttle service! At the previous service center, I was spending my $20-30 just on Ubers to drop off and pick up my car, which I no longer have to worry about!Very impressed with my experiences at this place and so happy to have such a professional and helpful service center that I can rely on for my automotive needs.

I had a slow leak in my tire. Turns out it was a nail. Wes fixed the tire and then checked all the other tires’ pressure. Very quick and professional service.

I was really not looking forward to getting my car inspected on a Saturday morning, but the guys at Shirlington Shell made it the best inspection experience Ive ever had. They were all very personable and finished the inspection quicker than the estimated time. 11/10 service!

Extremely polite and responsive BUT will find thousands of dollars in unnecessary repairs if you get you vehicle inspected there.I completely understand all the great reviews for this shop. They are very interactive, quick, and do to great job “explaining” to you the things that are wrong with your vehicle. At the end of the day, many of these repairs may be unnecessary.I had an older vehicle that I had inspected there, and they told me that the shock absorbers were completely dry /nonfunctional and highly dangerous. Thousand+ dollars later they replaced them and they passed me on inspection. The ride of the vehicle was exactly the same. In retrospect it’s almost impossible to have completely failed shock absorbers replaced without any appreciable difference in the ride of the vehicle.Gave them another chance on a newer vehicle and went for inspection. Again very polite and showed me some wear on a very obscure suspension part, including again that I was in danger. Being suspicious at this point, took the vehicle to two other mechanics who said the car was fine.Don’t feel that you were being held hostage by your inspection. Take your vehicle to another shop and see what they think.I am amazed they have not shown up on a local news station as a scammer. No joke. PLEASE get second opinions. To be fair, they do have free air!

I came in for a simple emissions test and there was no where to stand inside for the 1.5 hours I had to wait for my car. At the very least, they could have let you sit in your car until it had to go in for service. Also the person performing the emissions test on my vehicle wasn’t wearing a mask. So that was kinda annoying. In the end I did not appreciate how this went down.

I’ve been coming here for years now and these guys are great, especially Ron. They do a great job, make sure to explain exactly what work is being done on your vehicle, what parts are being used, and why the work is needed. It’s a little pricey, but not more so than other auto shops in the DMV region and I always feel confident in the work being done. If you’re looking for quality, trust, great people, and great customer service, SSA is a great choice.

I came in for an inspection and had a great experience. The team was very prompt and proactive in helping to resolve some minor repair needs to help get the items fixed quickly that same afternoon; saving multiple extra trips.While I was waiting, I also saw two guys quickly help identify and fix a tire with a nail in it for a family in a car full of little kids from out of state; I thought that was awesome of them.

DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR VEHICLE! I have been going here for years thinking they were helping me when I was being ripped off from Toyota, I was supporting small business and they were conveniently right near my job for 6 years. I got my annual inspection here just last October or November 2020, they allowed it to pass inspection. I purchased tires from them, they added a warranty I did not ask for and I was ok with that, again, supporting small business during these COVID times. I got a nail in my tire and took it to them this week and was told I needed over $2500 in work and my car is a safety hazard, and that I needed a wheel alignment, even though I just paid them for one in October/November 2020. I asked for the wheel alignment to be refunded so I can get it elsewhere since I no longer trust Ron Locher ( the one person I thought I could trust with my car). Ron preyed on a single woman who has been preyed on before by Toyota and tried to take advantage of my ignorance when it comes to car by leading with your car is a safety hazard, shame on you! I will take my car to a reputable service center from now on. You all should be careful if you choose to let them work on you car. Good Luck!

I have to say, overall I love this place. It is a Shell station, but youd think it was a small-town service station the way that interact with you. They are always kind, friendly, and professional. They take the time to talk you through any repairs, have good prices and good timing. AND right now they are also doing a pick-up/drop-off of your car to limit exposure and having to come into the station!!! And before anyone worries about well someone is in my car... I will remind you that someone has to be in your car for the repairs/tests anyways, so its nothing more than youd have anyways, but this way you dont have to also go into the shop. All in all, Ive used them too many times to count over the years and have never had an issue with any service. I love this place and I love the care they have for their customers.

After an attempted ripoff by a dealer I had used for over a decade, I entrusted my Honda minivan to the Shirlington Shell station a few years ago. It is a 2007 and looks it on the outside but runs like it’s brand new. i need it to keep running for four more years at a minimum. Ron at Shell is my main contact but others have been equally helpful and professional. In an urban area, they are a trusted neighbor and give the feel of a beloved small town local business. Before using their repair service, I had a chance to chat with a technician’s grandson who was helping fill tires and whose teacher was a friend of mine. That family atmosphere actually is what made me turn to the station for maintenance work in a moment of crisis. I have never looked back. I have some considerable maintenance and repairs on an old car. Each time it needs work, the problem and estimate are explained in detail and i have been offered photos as have others I know who I have sent there. The process is open and honest. I recommend Shirlington Shell highly!

Saved me considerable money with diagnostic skills

Very accommodating and friendly customer service. They accepted my car late in the day for an alignment fix and told me it would be ready for pickup the next morning. They later called me and said it was ready for pickup that same evening. A nice perk was the competitive pricing - I couldn’t find a better deal in the Arlington area. I would definitely recommend this service station and will be going back.

I brought my car in for an oil change, and got a call from Ron a few hours later with an issue with seal and bushing on the left front of my car. He let me come over to see the problem, explained what had to be done, and gave me a very fair quote (half of what the dealership would have charged me). Shirlington Shell was prompt and I really appreciated the quick turn around time to get the repair done. I dropped my car off at 1pm on Monday and had it back at 9:30 Tuesday morning. I would highly recommend this place for their professionalism, timeliness, and great service!

I’ve generally found the service at this Shell center to be fair, quick, and effective. They have a rather big staff who have always seemed very experienced, well-resourced, and knowledgeable. It’s right by the exit/entrance to Shirlington and has a huge parking lot (watch out for the bumps though!). Good place overall for car repairs and maintenance from my experiences

I was recommended to this mechanic by a local business owner who has been taking his car there for 30 years. He could not say enough good things about this place and it’s owner, Ray. I had my car towed there the other day after my alternator busted. There were a couple of other issues that my Lexus dealer had previously mentioned, and they found those, too. What I really liked about their service is the transparency and professionalism in their communication. They also came up with a creative solution (at no cost) to fix what would have been an outrageously expensive replacement/repair to my driver’s side mirror in one case—showing that they really know what they’re doing, care about their customers, and take pride in their work. The car runs and drives like a dream now. And the icing on the cake is that their rates were much more reasonable than what the dealer had quoted me. Thank you Ray, Ron, and team!
