Nice little place with great coffee and tasty pastries. Helpful and friendly staff ready to answer questions and make suggestions. Also have WiFi. I wish it was hotter outside and I would have liked to have one of their Boba Teas... next time 😊😊😊

Beautiful place! I work nearby and was always being told by customers that I should give this place a visit. I really love little bakeries, and this one has a large array of very cool looking treats. Staff is kind and the food is really good! 🔥

I went to this location, the guy that helped me was so kind, I watched him make my coconut smoothie, he washed his hands, he wore a mask, he was very sanitary and also very kind, customer service at this location is amazing. This is the best location, best customer service, and by far the cleanest much better than the Mt Vernon location. I will definitely be back at this location.

Unfortunately I have to take 2 stars away because there was a customer who walked in without a mask and they let him stay inside. A nice little coffee shop in the middle of this shopping center. Feels like it would be a good place to get work done and it seems fairly quiet. Social distancing rules seem to be enforced in some places and the mocha was made fast... Though a little too hot for my taste.

As we were moving to the area, I was excited to find this place. This is just the first order: I had a brown sugar bubble tea and my wife had a gelato. Friendly staff and theyre quick with orders. Very minor that Ive occasionally had small order mixups, ordered an iced matcha with boba and didnt end up with the boba, but I think there was some confusion on the order so possibly some of that was on me. Going to be a regular here.

✍️I arrived in the neighborhood early for a twelve o’clock noon business appointment on a parallel street, Whiting Street, behind JAVA LOCO on Van Dorn. JA came up on my quick Google search for a nearby coffee shop. A couple traffic signals and less than five minutes and I was there. JA is in a large strip center and setback far away from the street. It has no visibility driving on Van Dorn. JA is definitely a destination location. The shopping center parking lot is enormous so parking is not a problem. Coming there for the first time yesterday I relied solely on gps to find it which is okay. I enjoy hard to find, tucked away spots when food and drink are good and if ambiance is cool.Approaching JA I liked the clever little water saving message stenciled on the sidewalk on my path to the front door. I like the JA signage design on the storefront. Looking through the window and glass door JA appeared attractive. The shotgun interior is made interesting by using earth tones and having modulated lighting. There is a variety of lighting; hanging pendant lights in front on the short wall that is the front window, larger ceiling hung metal dome style lights on the right long wall that is exposed brick and has a bit of wood. On the left long wall above the service counter is a curvilinear bulkhead having recessed lights. The floor is smooth concrete that could benefit from a serious power washing. It is heavily stained and not clean. To my eye it looks like the floor is broom swept but never mopped and now power washing is the only remedy, again, my opinion.Opening the door I was impressed hearing low level piano jazz music that I came to dislike after about 10 minutes of being there. At first I had audio images (nostalgia) of the long running (1978 - 2011) Mary McPartland Piano Jazz radio program. The entire half hour I was there the piano jazz turned out to be jazz versions of Christmas standards (Winter Wonderland, Let it Snow! Let it Snow!, Feliz Navidad, I’ll Be Home For Christmas, etc.) and all played by one piano artist, Shin Giwon. You get my drift here? It became mind numbing. How about a mix of Bill Evan’s, Chet Baker, maybe some Patricia Barber and possibly Chic Corea. Now, that is piano jazz commensurate with the visual aesthetic of JA in my opinion and compensates for the dirty floor.Let’s talk about coffee and pastries. Examining the menu, which is sizable, I ordered a small cup of Cuban Coffee that was on the menu. What I got was a shot of something in a regular size coffee cup, not a shot size cup. Looking at the pastry display I chose a cherry danish. The shot size volume of whatever was served me was okay. It tasted like a very light espresso but I did not get an espresso kick at all from it. The pastry was okay though it seemed on the cusp of becoming stale. Cost for my little coffee break was $8.32. At that price point, in my experience and opinion, Mom and Pop in Mosaic is 3 times better in quality - flavor and freshness.Lastly, I was stunned at zero attempt to control social distancing by JA management. All food and drink spots I have been in in the past recent months have spaced tape markers on their floors for measured customer standing distance in service lines and blocked out tables or removed tables for seating distancing. Not the case here. Every table and chair was available for seating and no tape distance measuring guidance on the floor. JA seats about 30 customers by my count and the spot was approximately 75% occupied when i walked in. All 5 of the counter stools were unoccupied when I received my order and where I chose to sit. Photos accompanying my review do not show the packed occupancy I describe here because the place emptied out shortly before I left which is when I snapped many of the shots. And I cropped out people in the earlier shots. So the photos do not seem to match my narrative description of crowding. Also, I should mention there is some alfresco seating in front of the shop. My business meeting was better than my coffee break here.

Great nook and hidden gem of the area. Great boba tea with a great variety. Prices are comparable to those of other shops within the area but possibly a little higher considering what you get ($1.30 for a mini muffin). The establishment is small with booth seating on one wall, tables on another, and diner-style bar booth seating in front of the window. There is also outdoor seating but Im not sure if it belongs to this shop. The decor is cozy but busy. Ive been coming here for years for the boba tea and will continue to come so long they serve it.

Love this cafe, its right down the street from where i live so i go there regularly. they have an expansive menu with lots of choices, which i love! took a star off because when i was there today a man walked in without a mask on and the staff didnt say anything

I mean, the seating isn’t particularly comfortable so it’s not a place I would feel great hanging out for a couple of hours, which is something I look for.Outlets that are easy to find - checkWifi - checkExtra points for having boba tea on the menu!

This was way above our expectations of coffee shop food. That was a seriously delicious Ruben sandwich paired with amazing coffee milk tea. Would go out of my way for 💯

My daughter and I frequent this shop often. There are coffee shops closer to our home, but we love the service and quality of this shop. It’s a hidden gem.

I love Java Loco and have visited often over the last several years. My only complaint is their prices are no longer reasonable so I stopped going. $18 for one cup of coffee and a sandwich is outrageous even in Alexandria!

This is a very quiet place to work. I like the bahn mi sandwiches, though theyre pricey. The staff is nice. I wish they played happier, faster, more upbeat music. At least theres a lot of caffeine to combat the music! One big positive about this place is that it has plenty of free parking.

Okay, I am not complainer but have to say this. I come at this place all the time. Couple of times 7.50pm they closed kitchen. And it been annoying to not get a food if is saying you do a food. Also last time lady at counter mentioned me to put back mask until I wait my espresso. People around who are sated are with no masks, they not eat 🙄 They do laptops. That was really necessary and I am a regular and good tiper. If you want to someone appreciate your business, appreciate his time and money, simple.

I have been wanting to come here for a long time and finally made it happen. Super cute little coffee shop, I got the rose milk tea w boba and it was delicious. They had lots of bubble tea options as well as a ton of coffee options. I will definitely be back!

One of the best small business cafes I’ve been to in the Northern VA area. Their coffee, boba, sandwiches (basically the entire menu!) is so good and better than any chain coffee place. Highly recommend making this your new coffee stop!

I feel welcome and very comfortable being here. I love being here with my list of things to do. Even with just a cup of coffee, I dont feel the pressure to buy more or leave. Their service is goods, drinks are excellent and atmosphere is relaxing. I recommend to others and will continue to visit in the future.

Favorite local spot for espresso and boba. I love this place because they have a variety of flavors and alternative milks, and you can adjust the sweetness of the drinks (I usually like mine less sweet). Try the taro milk tea!

Good coffee, plenty of space to sit and enjoy it, and a decent selection of baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, juices, and other cafe-related goods.

The coffee was very good but I was a little disappointed with the turkey sandwich that they have for their breakfast. They used turkey lunch meat instead of the turkey sausage and it taste very cheap and had a bad aftertaste.

Delicious Coffee and Great Food. However not the quickest. Plan about 30- 40 minutes of waiting to get your breakfast sandwich. Add even more time if its crowded. I wish this was exaggerated, otherwise I would come here ever single day before work! But its worth it if you have the time and dont mind a long wait. Above and beyond the best coffee in the immediate area.

Much more homey and cozy feel than Starbucks or other chains, and great coffee! Love that they have some seasonal sugar free flavor syrups for the keto crew, and their cold brew will wire up any caffeine addict, regardless of tolerance! Support your local small businesses!

I enjoy java loco when Im looking for a Starbucks alternative. I enjoy supporting local businesses and this one of those worth supporting. The coffee is great, and the pastries never fail. Unfortunately, I havent had great luck with their teas. I will say the menu is VERY varied and Im still working my way through. So far, only the tea has been a bit miss.

The young lady behind the counter was friendly and extremely kid helpful.The coffee was tasty and our gelato was delicious with outstanding service sizes.The pricing was a little high but $20 for three people seems to be average for cold treat and coffee.

A nice atmosphere, and a good size menu. I had some questions about the drink selection and the barista was very helpful and explained the differences and helped me order what I wanted.

Not every barista is the same but I havent ever been disappointed by this place. Its the only place I can find that has vegan boba tea. And they actually care about making sure its vegan for you. They also really know their ingredients and their products. And everybodys really friendly. The taro milk te a with either the lychee or the crystal boba or the passion fruit boba is my favorite with oat milk. Its the best! Theres a couple reviews about people not wearing masks in the last week or so which I think is unfair because knowing the violence of people who dont wear masks I dont think its right to assume that an hourly wage person is going to risk their life to tell someone to put a mask back on because they never listen. Even one of them left a bad review down below because someone asked them to put their mask back on and he said it wasnt fair.... Im usually at this place later at night and Ive only ever ordered vegan boba tea and while a few times the person behind the cash register hasnt really had a clue theres always somebody whos very helpful to help them and me.And Ive never tried to order food there so I cant speak to the hours of the kitchen but they do close at 8:30 and Im usually there at like 7:00 or 7:30 or 8:00 and Ive never had a problem.

Coffee beans are fresh (as in roasted within the last 3 days) and are from California. Very good decaf Americano. Husband ordered horchata, which we have not been able to find around here. I tried it and loved it (as did he)! Im impressed that this cafe had the chutzpah to put that on their menu. The gelato is delicious and also tasted fresh. Havent seen another place quite like this in the area!

My husband and I live down the street so we go kind of often. Normally we both get the oreo chiller which is AMAZING but this time I got one of their milk teas, I noticed the milks use by date that she was using was a couple days ago but I didn’t think much of it because sometimes the milk is still fine however this time it was not. It didn’t taste terrible it was my first time getting this drink and it had a very strong tea taste that was over powering but after finishing my drink I am now feeling terribly sick and throwing up. Will not be going back

Cozy store with a robust selection of drinks, ranging from boba to coffee. Drinks are well done but I did not try any pastries/hot food. Highly recommend!

We go Loco for Java Loco. I try something new every time. Today it was the pastries. Delish! Salted caramel, apple cinnamon, chocolate, and banana bread. The mocha Chiller is my favorite because they know how to make coffee here. Very strong! And the best part, they always have a smile on their face

Ive been visiting Java Loco for years now, and I always enjoy the experience. They have a very robust menu that youll want to take a few minutes to peruse if you want something new, but also deliver exceptionally quick service for old faithful cafe offerings like Iced Coffee and Espresso. I also enjoy the baked goods and food offerings, there isnt anything me or my friends have tried that we didnt love.I also love that they offer Boba Tea, and in really great flavors.

This place popped up on my phone last night as a recommended coffee cafe along with Annanadale benettic coffee. Had a medium Italian coffee this morning and it was good. Coffee was well balanced. The bitterness of the coffee only lasted like a second for every time I drank my coffee where as coffee looked so dark. Beanetics was more darker and burn taste while Java was lighter and blanced.

Great coffee, nice atmosphere, polite employees and a very unique vibes of a coffee shop. The food and coffee and bubbles teas are amazing.

Love the wide range of variety of drinks they offer! It ranges from regular good old coffee to fancy latte to even bubble tea! I tried their Thai green tea (Thai tea + green tea) and it was interesting (more green tea flavor than Thai tea). I just love trying different drinks. The gyro breakfast sandwich was delicious and filling.

Prices are slightly higher but the coffee delivers! The store feels cluttered. The staff are great, helpful and enjoy being there for the customers. The vibes are good, the space outside us a nice addition and it bAs a communal feel to it. Again the place is trying to do too many things but I imagine the rent is high. The coffee I had was good actually

Maybe they have good food and product but the staffing has issues - whether in person or over the phone, theyre lacking for communication skills.We were hoping to invest in a large catered order for a large event but they would only state theyd get back to us when they contacted their owner instead of offering to put us in touch.Conversation was unnecessarily arduous and drawn out.

This is a pretty cool place to get some Java .This was my first time here, but there were a few people there.It was a trendy cool place. Im not cool to be honest, but I had a business meeting there, so I think we were the most serious people there.Nonetheless, the place was cool. Plenty of parking, and cost proximity to 395 & Duke St. There is outdoor seating, which is nice when the weather is nice.Ill come here again next time Im in the area.

I came here the other day for a coffee and a small bite to eat while I tackled some homework I had. The place was clean and the employees were kind. I ordered a Chai tea latte with one of their chocolate and cream cheese muffins. Both were very good! They are open later (9pm) than a lot of other local coffee shops in the area, which I really appreciate!The only issue I ran into was their WiFi was not working properly, but I was able to find another solution.

Their breakfast croissants are delicious! The egg and cheese is a simple one but made very well. The bubble tea here is fantastic. And the best part is that (according to management) there is no dairy in the milk teas they serve.

The Place is pretty... Average atmosphere in todays coffee shops. The chocolate croissant is horrible, the cappuccino is also a waist of late and coffee... :( Maybe my spectations are to high?... but come-on... Is not that hard.

Cozy, nice place. Not a chain feel, but... I didnt like the coffee. I had a regular brewed, to watery for being From a Italian Café, wife had a Latte and the espresso base tasted too dark (very) bustelo or café du monde dark at least pastries seemed good... . Sad, I really wanted to like this place.

I spend a lot of hours doing work here. My drink of choice is the JAVA soy latte which is mocha and white chocolate. The menu is quite expansive although I havent had the best of luck with their food. The black bean sandwich wasnt good, and the breakfast sandwich was simply ok. After striking out twice, Im in no rush to try any more menu items. Ill just continue to enjoy my soy lattes which are AMAZING!

Very nice. Its hard to be cozy when youre in the middle of a busy, traffic laden, suburban strip mall, but Java Loco manages to pull this off. You can take a break here.

My rating is based on the coffee and service. If you know good coffee then this probably isn’t the coffee shop for you. when you order a cappuccino and you get a latte!! If you are not too keen on coffee then this is an ok place BUT if you are a coffee nut head like me..don’t waste your money. Service was just ok. Oh and almond milk is .65 or .75 cents more ..riddle me that.

Just had the best Tiramisu gelato and Caramel Macchiato Ive had in a long time. Took me back to Naples.If you love coffee, tea, hot chocolate, smoothies, bubble teas, sandwiches and gelato, and love an international flavor, this place is for you.
