I reached out to Matt in October of 2020 to have a floating desk made. I was quoted a price and timeline of 6-8 weeks. I paid a 50% deposit. Shortly after the 8 week mark I inquired as to when the desk would be ready. I was told I would be contacted Monday to set up a time to pick it up. January came and I was told he was swamped and it would be finished within a couple weeks. February, still no desk and I reached out again and was told he had been ill. This goes on until April-being told it could be ready in a few days and I foolishly agreed to wait a bit longer. Finally in May I requested the return of my deposit as it was obvious the desk was not coming. The last message I received was the beginning of July saying when he was paid for another job he could refund my deposit. I shouldnt have to wait based other people paying for their jobs...it is now almost August and its been crickets. My deposit was $350 so not a huge sum of money but not the point. I paid for a product and have been given the run around. It seems many people have received their items and are very happy, maybe my work was not worth the time but I would appreciate being told that early on and also dont take my money when you have no intention of doing the work. Unless you have time and money to burn steer clear!Update: I was contacted by Matt and refunded my deposit-he was kind and apologetic for the situation.
We went to Matt for our center island. We were looking for something other than traditional butcher block and he created a beautiful piece from reclaimed box car. We love it. He did a few other things for us as we completed our remodel. He was professional and communicative throughout the process - a good guy who does great work.
Matt with Home Love and Splinters impressed me BIG TIME with these projects. I found him on Facebook having not known him previously. All I knew is that I wanted custom woodwork from a local Denver craftsman to help me outfit my chiropractic office. Matt was responsive over FB messenger and was easy to communicate with. I had him come to my office and was able to share my vision with what I wanted. He took a few days to scope the project out and got back to me with pricing. For the level of craftsmanship and artistry his prices are very fair. What impressed me about Matt is that he took this project on with having never done some of these builds before. For example, he never made a front desk before. But, he assured me he would learn the skills necessary to make it happen...and did he ever. It took a little longer than projected, but I gave him full artistic license and he over-delivered. It took him some time to learn these new skills, but he put them to work right away. It felt good to have furniture needs that would expand the skills of the person I chose to work with. Know that if you have something in mind that Matt hasnt built before he will surely do what he needs to do to learn how to make it. I was impressed for sure.Another unique quality to these pieces is that he didnt use any hardware for the joints. Everything is mortise and tenon. That means all the joints are wood only, so their strength is increased. This furniture will easily last me my entire career.Another element I like about working with Matt is that he is a family guy who works out of his garage wood shop. He does everything to support his family and provide awesome value for his clients. I took a couple visits to his shop and you can usually find his wife helping him out. Knowing that I was helping to support a local entrepreneur and his family with these projects was great as well.Overall, these are highly custom pieces of functional art. When working with Matt know that he pours his heart and soul into each project. This takes time, so when scoping out projects and delivery plan well in advance...on a scale of months before you actually need the furniture. If youd ever like to come check these pieces out simply call The Source Chiropractic - Denver and well be glad to show you.Thank You so Much Matt and Kori...Im totally grateful for everything!
I love my custom, solid Hickory Kitchen counters, shelves and dining table. I couldnt get this quality and installed on the Western Slope for the same money from any retail store over here. I did have to wait over 7 months from the time I placed the order and paid a deposit. I guess all great things are worth waiting for! I cant say enough about the quality! These are solid Hickory, not some composite. Matt was friendly and professional when he installed. And thanks for making two trips over here to get my order right!
The absolute best experience with Matt and Home,Love,Splinters. We moved into a new build house and knew right away that we wanted a custom mantle for our fireplace. Matt brought my vision to life and it’s absolutely perfect. He was on time, made sure his work was exactly what I wanted and kept a clean space. Even in the middle of us moving in, he cleaned up after he was done - after the offer of my wife telling him to leave it bc we had to clean our house anyway from the movers! He is just excellent. We can’t wait to have him over again for some ideas for our basement.
We had a walnut kitchen island counter made for our newly remodelled kitchen. We really love the counter which is extremely durable and hard wearing finish. We highly recommend this local small business, nothing is too much trouble and service outstanding.
Matt does amazing with his work the table looks so beautiful. I know it takes a lot of time for what he does we appreciate everything he did to make my kitchen look amazing!
My hubby & I wanted something different for our island so we thought of a butcher block and then found Matt. From the start he was totally up to do it and just as excited as we were! He kept us informed throughout the whole process and sent us pictures and updates. Which I thought was awesome cause we like to see before & after pictures. His communication and the quality of his work were on point! I love my butcher block!!!! Thanks so much Matt!!!!
Matt did very well on my coutertops.... I get awesome compliments when I have my family and friends over and I would recommend him to anyone!
In a day and age when we have to be wary with businesses we find online, I found Home Love and Splinters to be fair, honest, and fantastic at his craftsmanship. Moreover Matt was prompt in his completion of the products I purchased from him, originally estimating it would take 5-6 weeks and instead he pleasantly finished in 4 weeks. I found he communicated well, provided updates with progress, and reached out when clarification was necessary. I would recommend Home Love and Splinters and may indeed be back for future projects.
We would recommend Home, Love and Splinters every time! We also plan to become repeat customers. Matt was so awesome to work with and he is an amazing carpenter! The tables he created for us are nothing short of fantastic! If you’re on the fence, go for it!
Amazing service, Matt really puts the love in the name. He was able to meet us in person for an assessment of our space and what we aimed to create - a 13-foot L-design ambrosia maple table with a custom walnut stripe down the edge. His ability to talk through both technical and creative decisions with us was amazing and really ensured a smooth service end to end. I’d highly recommend for any residential or commercial project.
I ordered an end table top last week. Matt said it would be done Wednesday and ready to pick up. Matt contacted me Sunday letting me know i could pick up it up earlier on Monday. Communication was prompt, top is beautiful, and the whole experience was pleasant. Thanks agsin Matt!
This man is a one man shop! He truly works so hard, and puts so much love in each and everyone of his pieces! His work is beautiful and is always worth the wait! I couldn’t ask for anything more!!! This is a new business, that is growing each and everyday. So purchase a table, or countertop to make beautiful memories for a life time.
Quickly took around $2k for a deposit - but has not completed or delivered the work. He has scheduled twice now to deliver and install, but has not shown.Update 8/5 - I finally did get my project closed out, approximately 2 months late. The end product looks nice, however had I known that it would have been so delayed, I would have gone with another vendor.
Matt made a beautiful custom wooden table for us, and was able to use an old piece of furniture to save us some money. He was incredibly communicative and easy to work with - he was flexible and kind and went above and beyond to make our experience smooth.
I am amazed at the work that was done. The work and quality is some of the best Ive seen. The price is great and the time was just right.Very knowledgable and cares about the work that is done. Always stayed in contact and easy to get ahold of when needed.Very highly recommended. If I need more done in the future I know who to go to. (Home Love and Splinters) 👍👍😁
Doesn’t respond, doesn’t complete the job, very rude. Avoid at all costs. After waiting for over three months, we still have no counters. On top of this, he got really nasty when I asked for a refund after no response for days. He never even started the project, then whines about how he’s one person, as though it’s my fault he overextended himself. More concerned with his Instagram page then replying to paying customers.Update: After being screamed at by Matt but assured that I’d get a refund if I contacted my bank, he’s now trying to get the refund reversed so he can have the money back. I never got my counters, but he thinks he deserves over $1K for not responding to messages and acting like he’s doing you a favor by taking your money and promising to get things done “when I get them done.” Only asked for a refund after seeing someone else had to take him to court to get their money back after he string her along with no completed project for 6 months. He stopped responding to her like he did to me, because he’s incredibly shady. Do not do business with him, he’s a really horrible person who is trying to steal from people.
As a General Contractor I appreciate quality workmanship. I love the dedication and inspiration Matt puts into his projects. Matt caught my eye with his flair for attention and creativity to produce beautiful countertops. I chose him to make my personal island top and he delivered an amazing piece of art that I am very proud to display in my home. I highly recommend this young man to anyone that wants a truly one of a kind masterpiece.Lee MedfordSC General ContractorSC Mechancal Contractor
I found Home Love and Splinters on Facebook. I had been looking for a large custom walnut table top. I was happy that he was in my local area. Matt did a good job of communicating throughout the process. He did require a 50% deposit which i understood because he is a one man operation and the raw material cost for this would be significant. I received my table earlier this week. It is beautiful and represents a peice of art created by someone who is honest and takes pride in his work. Matt definately is and cares about what he is doing. The table is beautiful and timeless. A guest commented that it was a table for the ages. I agree. Thanks Matt.
Handmade and quality items at a fraction of the cost from a big wood shop or name brand furniture store. These items are one of a kind and will be passed down generations due to the craftsmanship that is put into them. The butcherblock made here cant be found anywhere else and the wide plank countertops and tables are just beautiful.
Zero stars if I could. He demanded a 50% deposit before we even met which should have been my first red flag. Now Im fighting to get my money back because hes so unresponsive. I paid him a deposit in November and he originally promised me my counters would be installed by mid December. Then it was pushed to around Christmas, then January, February, March, April. I tried to be understanding at first but he was incredibly unprofessional and I got fed up and I asked for my money back. Im now having to sue him in small claims court. Find someone you trust. This guy is a crook.
I received various quotes from numerous companies before finding this wonderful company. Home Love and Splinters was able to accommodate my needs and left me in awe when they delivered my custom beetle kill wood vanity countertop. Im extremely happy with how unique the end product ended up. My vanity wouldnt have been possible without the help from Home Love and Splinters. Thank you Matt and the rest of your team.
They ship all over the country, so were lucky to have them here locally. The quality of work has ensured theyve earned a repeat customer
I want to write a true and fair review here. I found HLS on FB Marketplace and actually never read any reviews about Matt, their company or service. Now after my project is complete and read reviews for the first time I did have some timeframe delays and maybe even some personality conflicts along the way as others have stated but in the end Matt kept his word, integrity and did me right. Here is what happened with my project. I had ordered a custom bar top and chose one of HLS pics from his website as an example of what I wanted. Matt finished it in the timeframe he said but upon delivery it wasn’t what I thought I was getting or at least from the pics/example I gave him. We both exchanged some words or tension emails but after the dust settled Matt stepped up and offered to redo the top at no extra charge. He did clearly state that cause he was redoing it he was going to take double the time to get it done which I understood and grateful that he was willing to work with me on what we wanted for our new home that we plan on staying in for a long time to raise our 5 children in. After the double timeframe or projection of completion date the project was delayed a lot and other projects did come first over my project, which I did feel because HLS had to redo my project that my project was on the back burner. Towards the end with the delays and a couple of projection dates of completion that were not met I did start getting frustrated and was considering backing out of the entire deal (side note I am so thankful I didn’t cause the bar top is amazing, craftsmanship is on point and I can’t stop looking at it as well as running my hands over it, ha!!) I have to admit I lost my cool a couple of times as well as Matt but in the end as I stated earlier he kept his word and integrity and completed the project. Even though it took much longer than expected I wanted a custom piece that meant something more than some cheap butcher block at HomeDepot, IKEA, etc. When I picked up the piece at Matt’s home my perspective changed about Matt and his wife running their first business and compassion took over. I have been self-employed for over 20yrs and running your own business is TOUGH, especially your first one and being a one man shop on top of it all. I have to say some of the reviews I have read are ridiculous and one sided as our instant gratification nation has caused us to be a-holes expecting one man custom shops to produce products as fast as world wide chains. Was Matt perfect on my project, no but either was I in regards to my responses or interactions at times. All I can say in the end Matt did the right thing, delivered a one of kind bar top that is freaking awesome, at a price you can’t find anywhere for the quality and he earned a client for life which I will refer friends and family...Thanks Matt and keeping living your dream of making great furniture and don’t let the naysayers bring you down!!!
I’m not sure where the bad reviews come from- maybe people don’t understand that quality, custom work takes time? If I had wanted standard, common countertops I could have gone to somewhere like IKEA, but my husband and I wanted beautiful and one of a kind countertops and we’re referred to Matt after seeing pictures of a friend that had a table make from him. We had no problem paying the deposit (how anyone would expect not to for custom work I don’t understand) But let me tell you Matt delivered and the wait was worth it! We were able to choose the wood, the stain, the pattern- everything that we wanted. And they came out even more beautiful than we could have imagined, as soon as we saw them we decided to have a matching kitchen table made to match! I couldn’t imagine ever using anyone else again and we recommend him to everyone. Thank you for making our dream reality!
If you want to deal with someone who communicates at an adult level & gets the job done in a reasonable amount of time, spend your money somewhere else.I paid 1/2 of the job up front and after 4 months of lies and excuses, I had the fraud department at my bank reverse the credit card charge. This lousy excuse for a company actually admitted to me that it took over 3 months for them to (supposedly) purchase the wood for my project. Multiple times I was told that my countertops were next and I would have pictures this week after they finally got around to starting my project.I filed a claim with the BBB and was told that they were willing to work with me to complete the job (and never made any attempt to do so).If you make the unfortunate decision to attempt to do business with this company, you can expect decent communication until you pay your deposit. Afterwards, you can count on week+ gaps in communication, followed by lies and excuses on why your project cant be completed. Matt blamed everyone from his landlord to other customers for 4+ months to buy himself more time so he could use my money on other peoples projects and to pay his rent.He is even so desperate for good reviews that he is giving his own business 5 star reviews. This business is just trying to scam you out of money to keep their business alive and I would highly recommend to choose another company to finish your project.Dont be surprised if this business gets marked as permanently closed and if the HLS Woodworks Facebook page goes inactive in an attempt to stop bad reviews
Made me a custom island top and its perfect. I get so many compliments on it.
