When I move into a neighborhood, I really try to become a part of the community. My favorite thing to do is find coffee shops to try out and meet the staff. Before I moved to Columbia Heights, I visited a bunch of coffee shops.Tynan is by far my favorite coffee shop in DC (and honestly, ever!), and holds an incredibly special place in my heart because it was the first place I dined indoors and sat in to work after being fully vaccinated. The staff are incredibly friendly (shoutout to John, Leti, and Maria!), their food is great (especially their power bagel, love bullfrog bagels and the BMT and grown up grilled cheese), and I love their homemade syrups for lattes. The staff are so personal, I brought my parents to the coffee shop and introduced them to the owner. Its a lovely place, lovely vibe, favorite coffee, and super convenient since its right next to the west entrance of the Columbia Heights metro. Its my go-to local coffee shop, and I cant praise it or recommend it enough!

Made a quick stop into Tynan during our trip to DC pre-pandemic. Nothing too memorable, but I do recall it being really close to the bus stop, which made it super convenient, since we were strictly traveling by free public transport at the time. Husband had that delicious looking waffle, egg, and cheese sandwich sitting in a pool of syrup. I think I got a turkey avocado sandwich. I would go here again.

I have been going to this cafe for over a year and a half now and have always had a positive experience. The team is helpful and friendly. There is plenty of seating and it is a good place to do work at (not to loud, good balance of outlets and plenty of seating). Since moving from Columbia Heights, I havent found a place quite like it or just as great! They also have amazing coffee/tea and great bagel and sandwich opitions. Worth the walk or metro ride up there!

Tynan has it all: (1) GREAT coffee / tea. We brought friends from Europe in and they said it was the best theyd ever had in the states. (2) Really good food. Gluten-free bread & bagels means that almost the entire menu is in play if you have an allergy. (3) Staff. Everyone here is great and its a very comfortable place to get some work done or meet someone for coffee. Home away from home.

I was enjoying myself there until I was refused to use the restroom. I was told it was for paying customers only, although I purchased my girlfriend a beverage and my friends purchased multiple beverages. I would like to think that the color of my skin played a role in me being denied using the restroom but hey I could be wrong. I definitely will not be returning to Tynan Coffee!!! Back to Starbucks I go.

We loved getting breakfast here!! We ordered the chai, sweet and savory waffle sandwich and the farmhouse breakfast sandwiches. Not only were the food and drinks great but everyone was so kind. My friend forgot her card at the register and we went back and got it. They held on to it for us at the register. The ambiance was amazing and we loved the feel of the cafe. Recommend grabbing a quick bite here when you’re in DC!

My server, Anthony, was super friendly and nice. He gave me time to read through the menu and actually smiled, as I was only looking for a regular drink while I waited for a friend. The space is really open so it feels bigger. I was surprised to see how many people were inside, but it is very close to the station exit, so that is to be expected. Did I mention the server smiled and made eye contact throughout the process. The prices are a bit high, but rent in this area is outrageous.

One of my favorite coffee shops in Columbia Heights. Their lattes are on point! Only thing that would make this place better is the WiFi. It’s a bit hard to log in and it has a time limit as well. Most of the time though I pop in for something to go so it’s not a huge issue for me.

This is a great and amazing place to hang out with friends, or even to meet with people for professional meetings. Excellent music, not too loud and the costumer service is amazing. Visiting Tynan is how I treat myself on tough days when the last thing I want to do is to come to work. Their chai latte is the best in the city, not watery or too sweet. Their smoked salmon breakfast sandwich is my go-to but the quiche is also good (and its a generous portion!). They also carry Bakehouse treats which saves me a trip to U Street when I want a 5 spice ginger cookie. Conveniently located, fast service, great quality, theyve got it all.

Excellent tea and accompanying treats. Open, airy, well-lit, and clean space to hang out and/or work. The wifi system is a bit annoying as it doles out only one hour of access at a time whenever you purchase something. It can be quite disconcerting to be suddenly disconnected if you are in the zone and lose track of time, but the connection is fast for a public space. Otherwise a fantastic café.

I am giving 3 stars but was arguing between 3 or 4. I absolutely love the farmhouse sandwich here and there is a lot of other good stuff-- coffee or bagel, etc. So delicious. Id give this place a 5 but it got a 3 because they REALLY limit the wifi unless you buy more. Cmon. Wifi should not be so limited these days. They have a policy on the wall that says you get 2 hrs free on weekends until you have to make another purchase. However, they only give you 1 hour for free. Ill be back here just for the farmhouse sandwich, but its not the best place for getting work done longterm

I generally have no issue when I come into this establishment, HOWEVER Jillian, or at least I believe that is her name is disgustingly rude to ALL of the customers. I came in to get a smoothie and expressed exactly how I wanted it and was given a disrespectful response to the extent of Thanks for telling me how to do my job. This isnt the first time Ive had an issue with this particular employee and Ive seen the way shes treated other customers as well. At least she doesnt discriminate against who shes nasty to. I refuse to enter this establishment anymore while she is behind the register or behind the counter. She needs serious customer service training or she needs to be fired immediately.
