Went there for Trans fluid & filter change on my Aerostar that had 85k on it. While waiting, the service manager, a fellow who appeared to be in his late 60s, approached me, with a cup to supposedly show me the catastrophic wear on the Trans. It had a film of oil and nothing else that I could see. While talking to me as if I were stupid, he explained that I should get my transmission rebuilt. I responded that I could see nothing that indicated excessive wear, and it appeared to be a healthy transmission. The guy scoffed and walked away.This place scares me. What if I had been an average man, or woman, especially, with no knowledge of engines or transmissions and this guy had pulled the same circus sideshow act? How many times over the years has Cottman taken advantage of ignorance and replaced perfectly good transmissions?BTW, this 1994 Aerostar ran 250k+ without any issues with the transmission. No amount of persuasion would ever make me go back to these guys. And this is not unusual behavior forTransmission shops. I have had dealings with more than one transmission shop, and have always come away feeling liked Id been taken advantage of. Their margins are very high, and Ive yet to find one that I could trust.All shops use a book that tells them how long it takes to replace a transmission, and thats what they quote you from. If the book says that it will take 9.5 hrs to replace your transmission, and it only takes 7 hrs, they will charge you the 9.5 hrs labor, at $135/hr.Caveat Emptor. Buyer beware. Do your due diligence about transmission shops. Check reviews and the BBB. Ask friends for their experiences.UPDATE: Was emailed by the staff. Yes, this was quite a while ago, and I have no idea if the business has changed hands since. Nevertheless, whether the company says Im in their database or not, this was an honest review of Cottmans services. Likely, I will not return here to do business.

Going to give them a try. So far to this date they are lacking customer care. I have not heard from them about my trans overhaul. They are a week late. Got my vehicle back and was impressed with the work they had performed.

Imagine taking your car in for a used Transmission getting a high ball offer and being told itll take a couple days after the transmission arrives pushed along an extra week and there arent any technicians. I havent seen my car in 2 weeks and am now suffering because these people make you do the calling around and did not once call me to inform me of the situation. very unprofessional.

Cottmans did a great job. They got the parts in a timely manner, installed them and the transmission is working great.

I gave a 2 star because they said it was drive line which it was but also the differential was bad which I thought it was also. It just would have saved me time from having it towed to another place but they said they didnt do u-joints or drive lines.

When I lost my transmission a year ago I didn’t know who to call. After checking reviews and talking to the staff. I chose Cottman. I appreciated getting a reminder text for my one year follow up. Great communication and nice staff.

Cottmans was great. I noticed a puddle of ATF fluid under my truck one morning. I called and was able to drop my truck off the same day. They verified my diagnosis, ordered parts, and had me back on the road in a very respectable amount of time. They checked in with me within 2 weeks to make sure everything was working great. This is a good group of folks to do business with.

Another transmission shop recommended Cottman, when they didnt want to work on my Hyundai, so I figured that they must be good, and I was not disappointed! The staff were all friendly and professional. Jeff performed their 21 point check on my car, and changed the fluid at my request, never pressuring me to do more than I was comfortable with. Highly recommend!

Is honest, fair, and professional

They worked on my 47 Ford. The car would start in any gear. They did a great job. It was no easy task, it took some customization to get this to work. They also helped me get the new speedometer working.

Friendly, professional, courteous and during Covid they were very precautius even sanitizing my key and putting it in a zip-lock bag for my protection.That is awesome customer service!

Went to Cottman Transmissions to have them rebuild the automatic transmission on my 1972 Pontiac Lemans, they also installed a shift kit.They were very professional with the handling of the work requested.I told them that I was in no rush whatsoever, yet they completed the workpromptly and efficiently . I found the price to be very reasonable, and they were also very accommodating . If I ever hear any of my car buffs friendsneeding transmission quality work Ill be sending the there without any reservations . These guys are awesome. Great customer service. Took the time to answer my questions, even showed me the old parts and explained what problem with the clutch was. Speedy service. They are a bit on the higher side as far as cost goes (they were not the lowest estimate that I got), but they were well worth it. I recently took my Jeep Grand Cherokee in to have a slipping transmission issue looked at that the dealership refused to fix. After a complete inspection, and a few in depth questions, a possible solution was tried that only took 15 minutes and was under $75.Bottom line, its all fixed and I am completely satisfied.They could have told me that I needed a trans rebuild or something much more expensive, but a simple solution was all it took.In my book, that goes a long way to show how honest Cottmans is.Highly recommended!!

These folks are fantastic. I had an old F-150 that was intermittently burping transmission fluid. I didnt have a lot of money to have it fixed, and Cottman seemed to totally understand that concept. While maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship, they fixed the unruly E4OD for a very reasonable price, far less than what I was quoted by my regular shop.

Took my 2001 Tundra in to have a diagnosis of what I thought was a transmission or rear drivetrain issue. Turns out it was an emissions issue and they referred me to another reputable shop better suited to do the work. No charge for the diagnosis. Friendly and courteous.

I took my truck here with transmission problems. I just picked up a chipper and had it in the bed, but couldnt deliver because of the trans not shifting. I dropped it off Thurs. at 4 because I had to work on Friday before they opened. Late Thurs. night I swung by to check in on the chipper, but my truck was gone. Long story short they moved it inside to keep the chipper safe, and turns out the problem was the vacuum line came off the trans. It was worn out on the end and slipped off, they trimmed it, put it back on, took it for a test drive to make sure, and charged me nothing. These people are awesome and theyll definitely see my business again!

Then after some shifting difficulties, I took the truck back one month after the warranty was up, and the new owner wanted to replace the synchros and bearing again. and charge me full price. and didnt care about finding our why my last set lasted less than a year. So I left dissatisfied and went in search of a new shop.After visiting other shops to get the root cause diagnosed, I decided to return to Cottman (July) once more to press my case and found Larry the original owner was back! He was committed to make things right, even though the work was not done under his watch, and he honored the warranty.Ive had the truck back for a week now and it shift smoother than I ever remember! Well definitely return to Larrys shop for all our car repair needs and confidently recommend him to friends!

I teach pre-engineering and digital electronics at a local STEM high school and financially (public educator) had a challenge getting all the variables to align at the moment our transmission went out. Cottman Transmissions were patient, honest and flexible to work with me in taking care of what was needed when I was in crisis. I couldnt recommend them enough. I went to Cottmans yesterday after reading a couple Google Reviews about them, and they exceeded my expectations. My Ford Explorers transmission was slipping and so I wanted to get it fixed correctly. The guys took my truck out and drove it, inspected it and came in to tell me nothing was wrong with it. We talked about it and they took it out again for another drive. Again, nothing wrong. We discussed possible issues that could be causing the problem, including the ignition system (which it was, broken spark plug wire. I fixed it myself) and they sent me away without charging me a dime! All told, they gave me about 90 minutes of their time, gratis, and helped me solve my problem. I definitely like these guys (and Katie) and would recommend taking a vehicle to them if you have a transmission question.

We have had two different vehicles with high mileage and Cottmans fixed these transmissions perfectly. We drive from out of town to have our transmission work done by this world class business and are glad to do it!

First they said it would take a week, Then it took a week in a half. They kept coming up with different stories. They also quoted me a price then when I went to pick up my car they added a few hundred dollars. There crooks and would not recommend them to anyone. Bad experience..,, Melinda lies. They screwed up putting the tranny back together so that took longer and I got charged for there screw up. Not happy paid over $3200. Rip off !!!

Simple service request turns into a 7 day nightmare and still goes on.On Dec. 12th I stopped at Cottmans on 112th to make an appointment to get my transmission serviced on my 2010 van. The person at the desk set a time for Friday Dec. 14th at 4PM. We went to the van to confirm the size of engine to ensure the correct parts would be ordered.Friday at 4PM I arrive and when I went to the desk to check in, another person manager or owner laughed and said we dont do transmissions this late on Fridays.My inner self said to walk away, but no I did not. We set up another appointment for 8:30am Saturday. I arrive and the night mare really startsI really hope you hang in here and read this. May save you a lot of time money and certainly masive headachs. Your choice. Good luck if you dont.I asked how long it would take they said about an hour. 2 hours later still in the waiting room I ask whats going on. They say we have the wrong parts and the old part was broken taking it off. Now waiting for the parts delivery servidce. They show up about an hour later and guess what, they have the wrong part.I explain that I have reservations at the coast the next couple of days and need my vehicle. They say sorry cant get the correct part until Monday, but we will rent you a car until Monday.So finally around 2PM that same day, I get a car. We go to the coast and trying to do the right thing, we cut our stay short to get the rental car back and get our van. We get home Monday and have a message to call Cottmans. It was urgent.I called to find out what is going on and they say the transmission is done, BUT, we had an accident and your car is in an auto body shop. Yup they crashed the back tail gate of my van. Never to be the same again.Then the guy on the phone from Cottmans said I need to turn the rental in so the auto body shop can give me a loaner. I go to the auto body shop to see the damages and was told the loaner is not available until the next day, It was a 2001 Cavallier or something like that. It was unacceptable to me.I contacted Cottmans again and said the loaner is not available until the next day and I work and cant get it, plus it was an unacceptable loaner. The guy at Cottmans said OK. That is all I was ever told until 5 days later when I go to get our van finally we had yet another message on our phone from Cottmans saying they do not accept responsibility for the car rental after Tuesday because I turned down the loaner. I of course confronted the owner who had many excuses and was not going to budge. I said I just want this to be over and go on about my life.At the end of the day, I ended up paying more for the rental than I would have just gotten the transmission serviced, the reason I went there to begin with. I should have gone to Jiffy Lube, would have been a lot better than this.I hope I have saved someone out there an unusual experience like this. I know things happen, but I think Cottmans should have been accountable for all my rental fees at the very least. I know I will tell this story to anyone who will listen and I work with a company with several hundred employees in Clark County and many of them are well aware of this experience.Good luck if you do not adhere to this warning. Listen to your inner voice and run dont walk away from this place.
