We took my daughters car to Pep Boys this past weekend. When we left the car, we stated that the car had a misfire and had overheated. We also let them know that the coolant was a little low but the engine had been shut off as soon as it began to run hot. We asked for a tune up, an oil change and a coolant service. About two hours after we left the car, Pep Boys called to tell us they had more than $600 of additional work that they recommended be done. The car is 15 years old, so I wasnt suprised that there was some other work they would want to do. I asked them to just do the work requested. However, when they stated that they needed charge us $100 for diagnostics before they could do the tuneup, I could hardly believe what I was hearing. I had expected them to try to upsell items like belts, air filter, cabin filter, wiper blades, transmission service, etc... There was no way I was paying them $100 more to do what they had already given me a price to do. It wasnt like they found something wrong during the process and needed to get my approval to proceed. I stated that I thought they should do that as part of the tuneup; otherwise, how could they give it a proper tuneup. I told them to just do the services that I asked for: a tuneup, an oil change, and a coolant service. When we picked up the car, They charged us for the oil change, a tune up (changing 4 spark plugs), and a cooling system inspection (I never asked for an inspection of the cooling system, I ask for the cooling system to be serviced.. Any mechanic I know would understand the difference).I am new the area, and dont know the best places to go, but this is one place I wont be recommending to anyone. I wouldnt have minded paying what they charged or even more (if they just did what I asked), but they dont want to communicate honestly with you. They dont outright lie to you, but they arent exactly honest either.

So they do inspections for Lyft at which they charge $20 for this inspection. The Pep Boys on Ina its free. Why pay $20 for something you can get for free?

I brought in a *printed quote* for new tires from this Pep Boys store. However, they tried to pull a fast one on me and wouldnt honor the quote. Instead, they tried to sell me tires that were $550 *more* than the printed quote!! They *refused* flat out to honor the printed quote. Im no lawyer, but I think advertising something for one price then refusing to sell it and instead upselling is against the law. Pep Boys Regional and National *WILL* be hearing from me.

I scheduled a appointment Thursday for 4:30pm got there 10 minutes early and found out the tires were never delivered. Ended up waiting 2 hours for the tires than a hour for install then they told me on the phone I didnt need to bring anything with my check because my grandfather was helping me and buying the tires for me. Then they tell me I need a ID for the check. The tires are good but the customer service is some of the worst Ive had. Plus there waiting room is extremely small and in close quarters

When theyre open service is as expected... however I had an emergency with a leak in the radiator down the street and they were closest I got there 5 minutes before close and everything was locked and bordered up with everyone hiding in the back to avoid customers. Seriously!

Yesterday I had a blowout tire on I-19 at 3:30 in the afternoon. We waited 3.5 hours for a tow since there was no spare in the car (new car no spare 😳) I called the Pep Boys because they are the ONLY tire shop open in Tucson after 5 pm on a weekday. I got the BEST SERVICE I have EVER received at this place. I called ahead and the manager told me as long as I got it there and gave him 10 or so minutes leeway he could have us back on the road. We showed up with the tow driver at 7:50 and he was there waiting for us, waved us into the bay to put our car and got to work immediately on it. 15 mins later and we were outta there. I couldn’t be more impressed. Thanks guys!

Terrible customer service. They made my elderly mother go find & carry out a truck tire by herself. Then to top it off she asked if she could get her car scanned to see if the starter was going out and they told her it would cost $89 for an in depth diagnosis. I guess they only treat their own color right over here. Me & family will never step foot in a pep boys again.

This store has really gone downhill in the last few months. - the service department has new faces, but do not understand customer service. -I made an appointment which they suggest for an oil change - They called me the day before to confirm the appt. - which I thought was great.I arrived the next morning for my appt. on time. I sat there in the lobby for an hour and a half and my car was still sitting in the parking lot untouched !! I asked the gentlemen how long before they get it in for the oil change - Another hour to hour an a half. - I got my keys from him and told him how upset I was - didn’t even say sorry. - couldn’t get me out there fast enough- btw he was wearing a white shirt which means he was a manager. - he was more interested in talking with the employees than getting in the trenches himself and helping the mechanic out in the bay. - I called Walmart over on park ave and asked them how long to get my oil change if I brought my car over now. - they said 45 minutes. And that’s exactly what it was !! If you want to deal with pep boys on south 6 th ave be ready to wait a long time and be ready not to be dazzled with customer service !!

Had a valve cover replaced, spark plugs and a few coilovers. Car ran great for the first 2 miles and then started misfiring. Called them and they said the would have to recharge me to look at. Im already over $1100 dollars in the hole with them and Im not sure if I should bring it back or go somewhere else now. Theyre all polite and nice employees but the amount Im being charged is getting ridiculous

They left my car unlocked with a door wide open that I noticed when I first got there to pick it up. After I left I checked my fluids that I was told had been checked and topped off, they were all low. They had told me the transition fluid was leaking as well. I took the car back and was told the manager had been informed about my car being left unlocked but I never saw the manager myself. I was then informed that it costs extra to check my transition fluid. If they knew it was leaking why didnt they tell me that it cost extra to check it instead of lying to me telling me it was checked and topped off before I left the first time? Do not trust this place! Incompetent and too rude of a manager to even apologize!

Andres was awesome, and called Midas to verify their price so that PepBoys could price match it. So I got my oil change for 17.99 on the same morning I called and it only took 30 minutes! Great service, even though I had to explain to the other guy why I was getting the discount.

I came to them when I got a blow out tire on Sunday at 5:45 which is 15 minutes before they close. In first they were going to sell me the tire with no installation, but when they knew I am going to travel kinda far they installed my tire in 10 minutes and they were really busy with another customer.

I would give it a 0 but its not an option! My mom took her car for a regular oil change and they told her it needed some kind of band that was next to the motor they said it was old, so she agreed to change it thinking that they knew what they were doing. To make thinks short they meesed up her motor head and they didnt take any responsibility for it. Be careful of this place. Manager never appeared basically they didnt care. I just wondered how many people have they scammed?!!

We got a bad nail in our tire driving back from Phoenix. My boyfriend calls 20 min before closing and asks if they can service us. The lady tells him yea we close at 6pm. We get there 5 till 6pm and she tells me they cant service us. WTH..... Really i could have used that information before driving over her with my two kids in the car Idiot!

This was the worst experience I have ever had... i went in for a diagnostic on why my car overheats at stop lights and they tryed to say it was a broken head gasket possibly due to a radiator fluid leak... so I asked to speak to the person who looked at my car. A man walked in holding a large metal pipe and I asked him if there was a more affordable fix... he then pointed me to a 30$ leak fixing fluid and proceeded to tell me that it will be a 50/50 chance fix... so I looked around and found the 4$ leak fixer and was at check out when he rudely (still holding large metal pipe) came up to me and grabbed the bottle off the counter and said this is a waste of money... I passive aggressively countered with a uniquely sassy okay ... so Im in the parking lot facetiming my twin and following the directions for the leak fix thingy; when I look up and see this bleeping bleephole standing in the glass doorway looking at me and holding the large metal pipe across his body... IDK if he is homophobic or just obliviously rude but I am furious at the way he spoke to me in a condescending manner, and intimidated me with a METAL PIPE!!! WTH!!!? I WILL NEVER GO TO A PEPBOYS EVER AGAIN!!!

These guys are super show and waste time. Got here with a fast appointment, but then it changed. Ali needed was battery and alternator check. It took 45 minutes to test the battery, and then after another 45 minutes nothing else, no answers. If you want your time wasted, by all means, use these guys.

Well, pep boys disappoints yet again. for the third, and in my book, final time. First it was the shipping, their overnight parts shipping is more like 3 WEEKS shipping. So as a DIY customer I had to take my car apart 3 times, 2 of those times in vain because my parts had not arrived yet. and when i ask what happened or where the parts were, I got a puzzled look and confirmation that the parts had left their warehouse and that was it. no tracking to see where parts were nothing. What followed was a double dip in the labor they charged when I took my car to get the water pump changed, charging the removal and replacement of the serpentine belt ON TOP of the removal and replacement of the water pump. this particular job was out of my league which was why I took it in, but I also dont crap money. it kinda seems like the advisors dont know what the hell theyre doing and just add crap to the work order just to add it. and the final piece was availability of tires. I needed two new tires that had separated, and they were prorated (fair price), but they werent available! again they would have to order from their warehouse and I couldnt wait 3 weeks to get them, so I had to be plus sized into bigger tires, and now my vehicle has two sized tires on it, both of which are very common and popular tire sizes. Ive tried to be patient and understanding, but enough already! I would recommend not coming here at all! you wait 15 minutes to cash out for anything, and the store is filled with useless crap! I can never find anything I need in there, its like they have all the stuff you DONT need. and the tires and their prices are starting to climb also, im sure I can find better deals elsewhere with better customer service too!
