So nice to have a Market IN the U-District with varied content. Along with H-Mart up the Ave, some quality choice products can be found. Both places have excellent staff, too.
Limited supply of exceptionally overpriced items. Its awful that this business profits on students rather than offering good value.
Limited selection, everything is RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. Like $4 for a single can of soup overpriced.
Good little grocery store if youre in the area looking for standard produce or more popular brands of food. Not a huge selection of most things, but good given the size of the store. They normally have a section of fresh food that you can order to go, and are linked to a small coffee shop. Prices are decent but probably not as competitive as larger stores.
Great selection and its aesthetic. It can be pricey though.
BIG shout out to Kevin. I bought an ungodly amount of groceries right before closing and he was, to say the least, angelic. Thanks for making my night kev.
Worse than airplane food. UW can do better for their students.
Wrong price tags, poor choice
In terms of student stores, this is, from what Ive heard, one of the best. With the main alternatives being Target and Safeway, both a fair walk uphill from West campus, this is easily the best option. That said, be sure to check prices before you buy. While things like produce and breads are very cheap and reasonable, Ive noticed that most snacks like Oreos and drinks are often up to double normal grocery store prices. The student staff is always friendly and accommodating, however, so its still a good shopping experience
The team here cares about the experience customers and students have.
Awesome store. Great friendly staff. Great selection and the best espresso
Prices are a little high here but its a great choice for a convenience store.
Has what need, a good selection, although a little higher cost. Food is good, service friendly and helpful, which is good as they get busy, lots of students. Also great as theyre right in front of the metro bus stop so you can get it to go :)
Kind of expensive, but so convenient. Pike Place clam chowder is my favorite, and the soup is always fresh. They also have a good candy selection for those late night munchies.
The District Market is a great place to get fresh food and some basic groceries during your stay on west campus. I may be a bit biased as I was the first chef there and love the place with all my heart!
Best place on campus to acquire food and cooking materials. But during certain hours, the checkout line can rap around the interior of the store
Update: Quality and availability of the hot bar and lunch options took a slight dip when classes started back up. Simple but tasty options were replaced by more exotic sounding, but uninspired, options. Coffee is bitter.Prices arent anything special but its clean. Decent value on packaged lunch food, and the bulk almonds are pretty good. The hot soups are sometimes quite good, and always reasonably priced. Only problem is they only have two pots.
Definitely not the cheapest place to buy food, but they do claim that most food and produce are organic. Inside, there is the Husky grind, where you can buy coffee and pastries. You will also find a large amount of breads, junk food, and sandwiches. There is plenty of frozen foods near the back of the market as well as a deli that serves hot food on the weekdays.
Nice place for UW students to get groceries with a fairly wide selection of foods to choose from at good enough prices. They even have cleaning supplies, hair products, and stuff like that for students who need some dorm essential that would prefer to spend meal plan money on non food yet still essential items.
Its great to have something open this late with a wide variety of options. Prices are high but thats what I expected.
This is a well designed on campus store! Loved the fresh options but found the overall selection disappointing. Good idea by UW but it seems it was poorly executed.
Like other reviews, the prices here are pricey. I would reccomend to only buy things here as a last resort, if youre trying to save money. Go somewhere else to get more out of your dollar.
Think smaller Whole Foods + convenience store. I appreciate the attached coffee shop.
Student grocery store with full retail prices. Pretty much all the essentials are available. Meat case is actually very good with quality protein.
Its a great place for students. Theyre very good on having items there for you if you need a quick bite to eat.
The groceries are generally decent, but theyre all over-priced. only go here to spend uw dining money (which is a scam). other than that, go to Safeway or QFC instead.
Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, is overpriced. It’s already expensive enough to live in the dorms and pay for college, and the District Market serves as a hefty middle finger to students. If you walk 4 blocks up you can save a ton of money.
This is a rebuke of District Market management rather than the store itself. In the past 2 months I was checked out by 2 different cashiers who did not understand American money and could not give me change without my help. I am not faulting the cashier but I am faulting management for their poor job of training.
A good place to buy food for home and wait for the bus indoors
Great place to pick up lunch or a quick snack or coffee near the UW.
Great place for UW folks to buy daily use items and groceries.
Clean store with a decent selection. But crazy prices. I feel bad for all the poor college students who are getting ripped off by shopping here... only buy small things you absolutely need. Never come grocery shopping here.
Expensive and limited. But very convenient and they take dining dollars.
Nice selection here, including fresh produce. But everything is VERY expensive and overpriced. Good if you have to use up a food plan, though...
Good experience, great desserts and pretty much affordable prices.
A bit overpriced but good quality fresh food
Uw hfs is the biggest scam. Only go here to spend the required money u have to put into a dining account. We need to start some petition or sth
Can find a lot here. A few things they dont have but I wish they did: normal chapstick (not just medicated), pickles, dry shampoo, and packs of water. Ill probably add to this list over time. They just dont have a ton of things college students want and need.
Have to really watch the prices, since some products are grossly overpriced. However, there are also some gems that save made this my go-to place to buy them.
A good selection of groceries for its size. Prices are a bit high compared to food items of the same type at other stores.
The prices are high but it has a great selection of snack foods and bomb breakfast sandwiches if you get there early (they go quickly). All in all, good place if youre not on a tight budget.
Crazy prices. But not bad if you already have a dining account with HFS.
Store is located in a convenient location but food is way overpriced. Would not recommend
Just a fantastic little market. theres not much more to be said.
Convenient store near university. 10% off if you bring your bike and show it.
Expensive, long lines, and not worth it. I feel sorry for the students who are over-paying for groceries.
Fairly high prices but decent quality food for on campus dining. Great place to acquire materials if you are on a UW dining plan and prefer making your own food.
Overpriced but a reasonable amount of variety available
Worst guaranteed! If you find a worse market, let them know! They will happily match it.Feel free to choose from exciting ZERO variety during break.Highest price, fewest selection. This place is the pinnacle example of UW HFSs incompetency.UW HFS, THE FAITHFUL BOTTLENECK OF YOUR ENTIRE UW EXPERIENCE™.
Exorbitant prices. Definately not recommended for groceries. This place should serve as the last resort. The proximity of DM to west campus dorms forces college students to pay lots of money for overpriced items though. HFS has really gone too far.
The prices of certain items is high, but great grab and go deli and Hot case
The DM has a nice selection of products, but it is very expensive. Its the best grocery store to spend your UW dining plan money. The Husky Grind cafe is also the best coffee on campus hands down.
Walked in to get something but the prices are way too high for me to feel okay buying something here
Horrible prices. Horrible service. Unfortunately): I’m my opinion
There are people who like fresh burritos too that are not vegan
Super expensive. The Dollar Tree shop right up the Ave kicks it in terms of affordability, the Safeway and QFC located a 10 minute bus ride away have much more choice, and the only thing the DM has going for it has location- its quite near the residence halls and has friendly staff and is a good way to burn through your dining money, but otherwise, if youre not a UW student, theres no reason to visit it.
Great coffee and good selection of food - prices are a bit steep though
Decent selection and one of the best places for food during the weekends. Everything seems to be pretty expensive though.
Its got most of the essentials, better for university students needing to make a quick stop
Fast friendly service! Espresso, food and snacks!
Great produce and meat but huge mark up on everything else
Its the same as it was and will probably be the same when you go
Great place for UW student to buy grocery with the dining account!
Its ok for vampires grocery store.
Good selection for a small market, but very high pricing!
Very pricey, lots of students there all the time
Most unreasonably overpriced grocery store I have ever been to. The food selection is good though.
Overpriced 😠 $4.50 for a tiny jar of jiff peanut butter. Its really messed up especially considering that this store is for college students and they know we dont have a lot of money.
Works for college essentials but prices are very high for those who pay with actual money and not a dining account.
Great atmosphere. Insane prices.
Good selection for a small place. Expensive but its the best option for students with a dining account.
Prices are absolutely insane, $4 for a bottle of Gatorade? I could get that for 70 cents at a regular grocery store
The District Market has a nice but small array of food choices. It is expensive though.
Excellent breakfast made to order.
Kind of expensive but a good way to use dining account money
Its a sad overpriced grocery store but its probably the best place to get food from if youre on a dining plan
Really expensive and they wrap their bagels in this crazy pseudo-bondage of cellophane (more like hell-ophane) thats seriously like Fort Knox. Ripped it open and the salmon bagel went flying and onto the floor.
Not great, slow service and theres rarely room in the cafe for seating
20$ for 2 pounds of turkey and potatoesVery expensive
Convenience.
Its fine.
Too expensive for students
Overpriced; essentially a monopoly.
Lots of stuff( including local stuff), but way too expensive.
Everything is marked up, hope its going to fair wages
Small grocery store with Asian options, slightly overpriced
Its your place to get food on the Ave
A bit overpriced
Incredibly expensive
Love this place
Terrible prices
Over priced.
Pricey
Not Cheap
Overpriced.
Overpriced
Groceries
International students should go here
Really convenient for UW students.
