It’s 100 degrees out today. I stopped by Bambu to get something cold and refreshing. I ordered the che trai cay which is the dessert drink with a lot of different fruits. I was a bit disappointed with my drink only because I was hoping it would be cold and refreshing. It was not cold at all and there was barely any fruits.
Only two because their hours are unreliable, although I really do love their Bambu special! Please adjust your actual opening and closing hours so people don’t waste time coming over to find out you closed early. Today my husband and another customer were there at 5:50pm and the doors were shut, not taking online orders, and the girl came out to lock the door, didn’t offer any explanation as to why she was closing early. If you look at other reviews on this page you will find that closing early is a common practice. This issue is easily resolved if you just order during peak hours or if owner of store changes info. online.
I decided to go to Bambu with my BFF and we absolutely loved it! Great vegan options and the hand pressed coconut milk was heaven! We adjusted the sweetness level to around 50 and it was the perfect amount of sugar. I suggest that you go sometime!!!!!
The green pandan jelly was really starchy and all clumped up. Today wasnt the first time, it feels like the quality is slipping***Tired of boba, but want chewies? Try Coconut water and bits. It feels pretty healthy, fruit and seeds and jellies, but theres boba ice cream and other more decadent stuff to choose from.
I heart BAMBU!San Mateo Downtown surely turning into an area worth visiting for sweet tooth foodies! Not only its something different, they also offer many unique concoctions of rainbow-colored drinks that are surprisingly refreshing and ridiculously delicious :)My favorite picks from Bambu are #6 and #10 (both with a coconut milk base)! For #10, I love the texture of these drinks from the wobbly and squishy pandan jellies to the firmer grass jellies. Mix all that with crunchy red tapioca and it tastes amazing!!If you prefer additional fruits in your cup, #6 has jack fruit, lychee, longan, long strips of coconut and palm seeds. I personally like this better than the rest since it has everything! Plus, having all the fruits just make it that much more refreshing. The drinks are quite affordable ($5.xx) and so worth it considering it was a filling dessert that leaves my belly full! On the weekends, this place can get quite busy, but thankfully the service was quick and friendly. Not the most hippest dessert place you can think of in term of ambiance, but their drinks are so worth it ~ youll fall in love!
I’ve been to this location quite a few times over the years. Always the same quality. Best place to go if you want a dessert drink that isn’t boba. I only wish they have larger sizes lol #6 is my favorite
Pandan waffles are the best and the fruit drinks are very good.
Drinks are good. Coconut milk and real taro. The Tasty Thai with Thai tea and coffee is also very good.
Great desserts and drinks! Love the pandan jelly!
First time to this location. The cashier was really friendly and engaged in conversation even after I got my drink, which was really nice. Drink was out really quickly. Only downside was that the boba was really inconsistent. Some were soft and cooked perfectly and others very undercooked. Id try it again.
Outside Taiwan, Bambu places are by far my best favorite ever. No changes needed.
My fav. Boba place hands down. Real fruits mmmm yumm
This is so far my favorite Bambu dessert place in bay area. Sweetness right on point.
If you want a super caffeine punch and your stomach to explode, get the Vietnamese coffee. Wow that is strong. One of the best that I have had! It really packs a punch with the caffeine and the lactose.Be cautioned!
Very delicious desserts that always satisfy my cravings. I didnt give them 5 stars simply because I wish they had smaller portion choices. Even though I enjoy every bite of all the desserts, too much of a good thing is sometimes not so good...😋
First time. Met a friend for coffee and wanted to try this place. Got the taro with coconut milk. Pretty good. It was a hot drink, it was real taro! and the taro was actually cooked. I didnt finish all of it, but I really want to come back to try the other things on the menu!
Hot taro lover is the best! I love this place. I have to go there every Saturday after dinner! Cant really miss it:-)
I love their drinks. Its so tasty but dont come here before dinner. It really fills like a meal instead of a light drink. They do have light options but their signatures are so tasty!
Store closes at 6 but I came here twice around 5:50 and they were closed already!
Bambu has started to replace our boba trips, especially while I am pregnant and shouldnt be having caffeine. Despite not liking coconut in general, my husband and I love the coconut milk base + ice in these drinks, as well as all the add ins inside. We particularly like the fresh taro! If youre coming after dinner, make sure youre not too full since these drinks can be very dense.
Tasty drink desserts. When I went they ran out of boba (is that a thing??) but their other add ins were tasty and free (except for agar beads). They have some board games to play while waiting or hanging out but the door brings in quite the draft when it opens
I enjoy coconut milk based drinks, and Bambu does it well. Some combinations of ingredients dont work as well as others, in that they are heavier drinks than I would prefer. However, that hasnt stopped me from trying to get through the whole menu!
Very tasty and refreshing drinks. Make sure to tell them our sweetness level. As a European I like to go half sweet often since it can be too sweet otherwise.
Got the Bambu Special since I wanted something lighter (coconut juice instead of milk). It was heavy on the pandan jelly and logan toppings, wish there was more coconut juice in the drink for $6.50! Couldn’t really taste the basil in the drink. Still prefer my bubble tea but it was fun to try!
Unusual options. Love the ice blended Thai tea, half sweet. The ice is blended so fine, it ends up being smooth and creamy
One of the places I would go for a durian drink. Its expensive though($6 for regular and $7 for large) but its worth it. Durian is expensive and I understand if their price is high but their other branches is cheaper(I guess because the place is also fancier than the other ones). There are board games which makes this place a good place to hangout with friends.
I gave this place a try but I guess bamboo is not my thing. I would say Vietnamese drinks are just not my thing either. The drinks are imo gross but thats just my personal taste buds. The drinks are professionally made and the service is excellent. Reminds me of great boba places Ive been too. This rating is purely and solely on taste from a white-washed American who grew up in the Bay Area and has never tried Vietnamese drinks before.
Its good but way over priced. Service is ok, almost always theres a mistake. Fun relaxing spot with games to play and hang with your friends, but only if you can get a seat. Parking is a consideration but I think thats more aligned with Downtown San Mateo vs a reflection of Bambu.
This is our usual post dinner desert destination when we visit San Mateo downtown. They have tons of board games and the owners never give us hard time if we end up loitering around even after we finish our food. I usually get the panda flavored waffle, it has a unique coconut like flavor to it and its always freshly made. They have wide variety of boba tea and coconut milk based drinks which tastes way better than your usual Asian boba tea places.
The best Bambú in the Bay Area.
Ive only been to 4 different Bambus and this is the worst one. I ordered 2 of the same drinks and they cant seem to get the sweet consistency right even if they are identical. They are also the most expensive, even more than San Francisco.
Cool drinks. Interesting... Nicely not too sweet.
The boba was hard on the inside and slimy on the outside. I ordered a honeydew with no sugar and boba. I meant to order a milk tea but was given a smoothie. I should have been more specific while ordering. The shop had a nice atmosphere. The interior is bright and inviting. They also had some board games to play. The cashew meringue buttercream sandwich was an interesting texture and sweet. It’s like the wafer of ice cream sandwich.
Nice place downtown. They have games like jenga that you can play while you are having their drinks. They do have a pretty good variety of drinks.
Fresh ingredients, made to order, coming together to create magic! Best Asian desserts in the South Bay! Fruit Addict and Taro Lover are to die for. And the Pandan Waffle.Tiny store and just a wonderful ambience.
My favorite place for bubble tea. They use fresh coconut milk to the tea. Its delicious.
A-mazing! Favorite dessert shop in San Mateo. Drinks are incredibly distinctive with there being an infinite combination of unique ingredients. Sit and enjoy your drink with one of the casual boardgame they offer too.
We ordered low sugar and it was just the right amount of sweetness.
Love, love, love this place -- so many flavors and ingredients that I cant get anywhere else! Asian dessert drinks with things floating in them make me happy. They have coconut, tapioca, red bean, mango, lychee, longan, taro... mm. Big and filling enough that just one of these specialty drinks is like half a meal for me. They also have a bunch of board games (scrabble, connect four, jenga) so you can hang out.
I mainly go here for the Vietnamese coffee and add some pearls. Fantastic. They have a lot of other desert type drinks, but I cant really comment on them.
Im just visiting from NY and my sister took me here .I dont know what to order so I ordered her Favorite # 2. Oh! my goodness, I wish you have a store in Manhattan.I will be there everyday! Delicious! Loved it! Went back again but the line is sooo long, I dont want to be late for my flight back home.I will be back Bambu.
Really efficient friendly service and the coconut milk based drinks are awesome. I love pandan jelly 😍
A little too sweet for my liking but the ingredients are fresh and its a pretty refreshing dessert.
Friendly cashier. More unique drinks here
Only the Special is good. The 3 color drink is MeAh
A decent spot for boba milk tea and other desserts. Not as good as other milk tea shops nearby, but decent value for money.
I love this location because there are free games to play while you wait or just want to hang out.
I went there and your worker Anthony cristobal was great I went with my family he was awesome
Love this place. This reminds me of the little drink stands in Vietnam. I like my watermelon and lime juice.
The number one is really good. I enjoyed the longan and pandan.
Has my favorite mochi ice cream. Their drinks are also nice.
Drinks are good.....but prices have gone up significantly!
Extremely good, yet very aromatic, the milk tea taste like im drinking a whole bottle of perfume, very unpleasant yet bewildering. Enjoyable to drink, a whole load of selection, variety of variety. Good customer service.
Awesome collections of smoothie, che, boba teas. I just love their drinks.
This place serves variations of the Vietnamese che. My uncle loves the taro drink which is thick but not too thick. The durian smoothie is too dilute.
This is a homey place which is perfect for a casual drink or snack
BAMBU Desserts & Drinks is yet another chain trying to make some profit off the enormous taste for everything sweet in a liquid form - but it does a decent job at it.I came here to try out the French Coffee with boba, good stuff! Dont count the calories and dont tell my doctor but Ill be back for more once I give Sharetea on 3rd a rest. The store layout is modern and bright. There are a few tables so if its packed you better consider it a take-out. Ill try out more next time.
Its a different take on your boba/coffee/milk shake. I like it, but you have to enjoy stuff in your drink.
Delicious desserts and wide variety of customizable drinks. There are exotic fruits available like jackfruit and durian. Mmm! Parking may be hard to find at the location, and there are other competing dessert places on the same street.
A bunch of friends and I came here after a bday dinner and the staff here were overly generous in the length of our stay, customized orders, and our humor (someone wanted to take selfies of herself as the boss of the place). Next time well try the waffles, which looked delicious.
The drink is very good. Wish they have a restroom.
A good change from your typically boba! definitely recommend!
Tasty desserts with fruits, jellies and coconut. The service is very friendly. They have board games too.
Had a coconut matcha smoothie and it was delish. I was on cloud (storage) 9!
Funky, customizable vietnamese drinks. Super delicious. My go to drink is the coconut juice with lychee, grass jelly and red beans. We always come here for a snack, any time of day. Very nice and clean interior. You can play their board games while having your drink. Free wifi.
Excellent prices, great drinks. Clean shoppe.
Interesting drinks. Anything with Basil seeds rocks!
We love the che, especially number six!
Honestly, the taste was very strange...
This little place is my favorite in town for Asian-style drinks. They have tables and gmes too, and I think waffles.
Really good deserts. #6 on the menu
Tasty desserts. Try the waffles
Never get bored of the sweet Vietnamese dessert drinks
Yummy drinks, and they have games too.
Strawberry bread and bubbis mochi! yum
Very small and crowded place. It was so noisy they got our order wrong.
Good crearice drinks
Bambu favorite #10, substitute grass jelly for basil seeds is always my favorite.
You cant buy the large cup with desserts. Only the regular size.
Refreshing after dinner dessert
Cool place to hang out
Love the coconut taro smoothie
Delicious drinks, many selections
Red Velvet Hot Chocolate
Its ambience is great
Amazing place for boba
Love the advocado drinks
Nice food.
Most of the time, it takes a while for them to make your drink.
Great desserts by minus 1 star for inconsistency.
The day I went seemed to have had a bunch of kids working in the back who didnt make the drinks that well, versus other Bambu spots Ive been to with amazing drinks
Best Che in town
Nice drink.
Very good, but expensive
