Small coffee shop and roaster located in the heart of San Jose. Big points for the taste of coffee, friendliness of the staff, the free cookie (awesome), and offering freshly roasted coffee beans! Only improvement suggested could be more transparency about the coffee roasting (i.e. putting roast dates on the bags for sale, and strength of roast Medium/Dark, et) - for those of us that are unnecessarily picky about coffee beans. :p[The Coffee]The coffee here is great. We got espresso and a cafe latte. What I noticed immediately is that this shop puts heavy emphasis on the quality of the coffee. The flavor here was off the charts. We ordered the drinks without any sugar so we could focus on the taste of the coffee, and we were super impressed! 10/10 for the coffee! We normally buy bags of fresh roasted coffee from the shops in the Bay Area and found this shop via Google. As I noted above, the only improvement could be a little more transparency about the coffee roasting dates and strength. It would help those of us that are picky and too shy to ask the staff![The Location]The vibe here is really nice. Younger staff that seems pretty knowledgable about the coffee, the roasting process, and the coffee offered. I really enjoyed visiting this shop. Its in a neat little location. Parking can be difficult but there is a parking lot nearby for 7$. If its a quick trip, just park anywhere and have someone watch the car when the ticket writer comes!
We came in and wanted a simple vanilla flavored iced coffee. a long story short, the staff members behind the counter misunderstood us and began making a completely different drink than what we had asked for. we explained again what we wanted and they sort of understood and told us they didnt have the flavor but then tried charging again for their own mistake. we ultimately were only charged once and waited 10+ minutes for a simple order of iced coffee. the one positive was the complimentary cookie but even then only 1 was given and it was small.
Thank you so much Fabiana and Nathan for making my first visit here stellar! The coffee itself is on point in every respect: perfectly roasted, intense, fresh of course… And I love the cute little cookie that you guys threw in it on the house! I had the hardest time deciding what else to add but when I heard they had a matcha cookie, the decision was over LOL. Since there was no other customer and I love talking to staff, I shared how much I love the Matcha flavor. I mentioned Stonemill Matcha in SF and Fabiana responded very enthusiastically that she also knows and enjoys that place. What a delightful experience. When the world feels like it’s crumbling around us, just very genuine kind human connection makes such a difference. This really brightened my day and this extended review is just a think you for the effort you guys put into my experience.
Great place! They were so friendly and welcoming. I had the lox on an everything bagel, it was good. Also, the everything bagel was just right and not overpowering. I would definitely come back.As for the espresso, delicious and smooth.
Good coffee. They even gave us super tasty free lemon cookies. Recommended
Great spot across the street from the convention center. I’m so glad it’s here because it’s great. I plan to visit the next two mornings that I’m here as well. For starters, it’s super cute and laid back. It has a very welcoming vibe and the baristas are very friendly. The espresso drinks are all one size which is the way it should be. I ordered two cappuccinos to go, and they did not disappoint. In fact, their cappuccino was better than the one I had from a spot around the block the day before. So glad I found this place. If I lived here, I’d for sure be a regular.Update: I was here for three days and came back every day. It was great every time. My second and third visits I got to sit and drink my cappuccino and noticed that they played French music in the background. I really enjoyed this aspect. It was such a nice touch.
Came in on a Saturday morning and was greeted by the staff immediately. The smell of coffee filled the shop as the beans were roasting in the roaster. I had the latte with oat milk with a ham and egg bagel. Hubby had the flat white with an order of avocado toast. He said it was the best avocado toast hes had. Crunchy bread with cream cheese, shallots, avocado, and egg with sprinkles of paprika on top.
When it comes to coffee, we remember the names we usually go to. Why not try something new. I’ve been there once and now I just go there every weekend. On weekends, Google map suggests me that location on top by default. Even Google map knows I love that coffee more now. They have absolutely great staff and amazing coffee.
Things started out wonderfully, I asked for an Expresso shot with sparkling water on the side. Server that helped me out said that they had Espresso with Tonic water, I asked what was the difference. She explained that it was the same as sparkling water but goes along better with Expresso.First off, they mix it together. I am used to it being on the side or asked if I want it mixed. The problem was that the Tonic water they use has sugar in it. Its not like other Tonic waters and definitely not similar to the sparkling water I requested originally.I informed the server that since I am fasting I dont want sugar and would just like to buy a bottle of sparkling water and get a shot of espresso. She charged me for another shot and the sparkling water. When I asked if the charge for the shot was a mistake, she said no. I informed her that I just paid for a shot and did not receive what I thought I would, her reply was that she will charge me again since I want a shot with sparkling water.I dont expect anything free but feel like they should have either better explained the difference between the sparkling water and their Tonic water or take care of the additional espresso shot. The most important thing in business is to take care of your customers, treat your customers the way they want to be treated. They definitely lost a customer.
I lived near this place for a year and visited almost daily. I loved their coffee and swore by their bagels. Incredible food and most importantly, an outstanding, professional and vibrant staff.
Tried this new coffee place and really loved it.They have a variety of options for food and drinks. I tried the hot Spanish latte and it was amazing.I am surely going to go back to try more items on their menu.
I love this place. I was staying in the area for work and stopped by here twice for coffee. I had a Cappuccino and Croissant the first time and the Latte on my second visit. Delicious and strong drinks. Fresh and super soft croissants. This place is a winner and I want to take it back to LA with me.Voltarie Coffee House is super cute, clean, and everything I want in a coffee shop. Plenty of seating inside, and a few tables outside on the sidewalk as well. Love these little coffee shops. The menu is very simply and written above register area. Just love the vibe I get from places like this, instead of the big chains. Wish I lived in the area so I could support them.Friendly baristas and super helpful when I needed some suggestions. Conveniently located near downtown hotels and directly behind some of the popular eating areas on 1st street. Check it out!!
I really enjoyed my experience at Voltaire. My latte was prepared very well. It appeared as if many of their patrons were regulars. My coffee was knocked over just after exciting the shop and although my intention was to return just to get paper towels, the barista promptly offered me a refill. Sure was also really pleasant to chat with. The entrance is a single door but otherwise its handicapped accessible.
A great locally owned coffee house that roast and sell their own coffee beans. Their talented baristas do “latte art.” Besides doing the standard “leaf” or “heart” with the milk foam, ask for an “animal,” such as a dog or bear. It will make you smile!Voltaire also serves delicious sandwiches and light fare. Their version of avocado toast with hard boiled egg (cooked to perfection) is definitely a “must try.”With its coffees, Voltaire has both dairy and non dairy milks (soy, almond, coconut, and oat) to choose from.Place is big enough with floor to ceiling windows looking out on S Market Street where you can either sit or stand inside or grab a table to sit and enjoy a great tasting and looking coffee served in a porcelain cup (no paper cups here!). It’s low key and calm.Located on the same side of the Westin San Jose and across the street from the San Jose Marriott/ San Jose Convention Center, there is now no excuse to find a great cup of coffee from a local business, instead of the coffee place with the green sign with the mermaid’s head on it).
Awesome coffee and great snacks and food... Great vibe all around
Giving one star for customer service. I ordered an iced chai latte with oat milk and the drink tasted spoiled (I had it before, so I knew something wasnt right). The employee simply checked the date on the Oatly box and said, its not expired and the drink is good (without tasting the milk). She also wouldnt remake the drink (I guess thats their policy). I left without my drink for which I paid $6. Very disappointed that this place doesnt care about happy customers. Wont be coming back.
We decided to come back here with my other friends because we wanted to invite them next time around. I strongly recommend this place!
This is the best coffee shop ever! Try this coffee shop, and you really like it. This coffee shop has a good taste of coffee, and the price is affordable as well. The service of this coffee shop is ideal for all people. It has a happy place and happy people. I highly recommend this coffee shop to everyone.
They have good coffee beans and they even roast themselves. They also offer organic beans. Their coffee was delicious. I tried a pour over today and was happy with my drink.
Been a regular here since a year and a half! They make one of the best Spanish Lattes! Thank you for the amazing service as well!
I like coming to this drug store because it is the only one that can help me. Ive been to a lot of pharmacies, but this one is my favorite! Im in awe of their abilities!
Amazing customer service every time! The best caramel frappe I have ever had. Will keep coming back :))
Friendly staff. Excellent coffee.
I used to go here a few years ago and the coffee was good. During my last visit the coffee was awful (very bitter, with burnt taste). Also, they have a restroom but they dont let their customers use it.
Directly across from the convention center, this is a prime place to get a cup of coffee and light morning fare. I like that your choice comes in a really cup and not a paper cup. Service here is a bit slow but they make decent cup of coffee. The place is clean and dirty tables are quickly cleared for the next customer.
A local business coffee house that could accommodate large group for about 40 people. It is a good place to have breakfast with the hot or cold drink. For the food options, they provide variant of bagels, whereas for the drink, they provide coffee, milk, chocolate, tea, and fresh fruit sparkler. If you want to enjoy the food and drink while looking to the street view, you could also sit on the chair exactly behind the glass window. They also have some seating at the outdoor area. Here are what we tried :Lox Bagel (USD 8.50)The bagel with white sesame and filled with smoked rare salmon, cream cheese, tomato, and sliced red onions. The salmon is fresh and has a good taste.Hot Almond Milk (USD 3.00)As an almond fan, almond milk is one of my favorite drink. However, this almond milk is far from my expectation. It tastes so plain without sugar. Well, I guess next time I have to ask to add on the sugar.
Cute location. Friendly staff
Top shop at San Hose! Yes the way coffee is done over here is with respect to the bean. You know the coffee will be great when each cup preparation is made with measured beans freshly ground each time. The aromas and flavors stay true and every sip delights your senses. Considering that it is in downtown, the space is done classy and is very inviting.
Delicious iced green tea and iced vanilla latte!
I went to this coffee shop this morning, to have my morning coffee before coming to work. This coffee shop was having the best Latte than any other coffee shop in the city. They also offer cakes, muffins, and donuts, which were very tasty and delicious! This place is heaven for coffee lovers out there. A very highly recommended place to go.
Excellent coffee and delectable cuisine. The staff is extremely pleasant. This is now my all-time favorite cup of coffee!!
I think I just found my new favorite place for a great cup of coffee. Very artistic baristas.
I love Voltaire!!! This is one of my favorite spots in downtown SJ. Their chai latte is one of my go-tos on their menu, but their fruit sparklers have become a summer favorite. While you’re there, pick up one of their matcha-white chocolate cookies or slices of banana bread!!! The staff is always so friendly and willing to give great recommendations. They currently have limited outdoor seating.
Coffee was good, visually appealing drip coffee apparatus, looks vey scientific although I doubt the spiral tubing after the coffee is brewed doors anything except cool the coffee down. I also had a plain bagel with cream cheese that was passable. Warm and soft but not a lot of cream cheese. Overall, Id say go for the coffee drinks, not the food. They do open at 6am though, so thats a huge plus in favor of Voltaire.
I always enjoy going to this coffee shop! Lots of choices to choose from that would definitely satisfy your taste. All of the staff are very friendly, accommodating, and always happy to serve. I would highly recommend this place to everyone.
Place is great . always helpful and nice. they also remember you when they havent seen you in a while. very much recommended.
Amidst a near glut of espresso options downtown the modest Voltaire establishment easily rises to the top. The cappuccino is among the very best Ive tasted, from a medium roast thats more bold than fruity, happily bucking the trend thats overtaken so many other espresso establishments in recent years. Voltaire stands apart in one other important way: it may be the last remaining cafe where one can enjoy a drink without the house music overwhelming the experience. The music is tastefully selected, generally classic jazz or styled after a Parisian cafe. Voltaire has been hard hit during Covid-19 but remains open for take out orders.
This coffee shop is definitely a gem. They have a somewhat small selection of drinks, but the ones they do make they make extremely well! I love it so much!
We came in here as a large group and the staff was able to handle us with no problem. Food and specialty coffees were ordered and were quickly delivered. There was also lots of room for everyone to sit along with the ability to walk around and let folks mingle. This coffee house provided excellent product and has an environment that is great for small to medium groups. We really enjoyed our time here.
This place always had the best coffee, probably because they roast their own beans right in the store. food is great as well. Never really been a fan of avacado, but I definitely like their avacado and egg crostini. Staff is always helpful.
Good sandwiches and lattes.
A group of 30, who enter simultaneously inside a cafe early in the morning for breakfast, is a quite interestingstress test for a small business.Test passed perfectly, on this caseWe were all served quickly, without any issues. My cappuccino was excellent, and as far as I have seen, the smile of everyone is our group were showing a big satisfaction.Well done
Man. I am addicted. Like actually addicted.Trust me. Get the Iced Spanish Latte, it the perfect balance of sweetness. It is espresso with half whole milk and half condensed milk. A good spot to come study and has lots of natural light. They also sell these little containers full of small chocolate balls. They are great. The Nutella Latte was a little too sweet for my liking, but if you ask for half a scoop, its way better.I cant wait to get my caffeine from here tomorrow.
Very friendly customer service.
The owner, who does the roasting, has clearly taken the time and effort to really know what she is doing. Of all the places Ive tried in the bay area, the coffee is most superior here. I even say it is on-par with some of the best Ive had anywhere. Very glad to have them. I only wish they had later hours. :). The atmosphere is most pleasant, I love the little plants along the window and all the other touches that make it comfortable and relaxing.
I’ve only had lattes and espresso here and found them to be thoughtfully made. It is rather expensive to pay $5 for a plain latte (which only comes in one size which is somewhere between a tall and a grande at Starbucks for reference). The space is super warm and cozy and staff are very friendly.
Great chai lattes and cold brews!
I wish I could give them a 5 star review. I went here three times while in San Jose for a wedding. The first two times were great, but the third time that I ordered a pour over coffee, the barista added water directly to the pot after brewing the coffee (as in not through the beans). Im sorry, but I didnt pay $6 to have water added to my cup of coffee. If it wasnt for the other two times that I went in, I probably would have rated them a 2.
This place serves awesome coffee. Had the best flat white of my life. There were queues for those that wanted to sit. Highly recommended.
Nice coffee shop. Parking can be tricky due to the location. Coffee was pretty good. Food menu was lacking. With such a small menu I figured the execution would have been on point, unfortunately it was mediocre at best.
Clean, modern, and kind of chic. Its not a rustic type of coffee shop, which I usually prefer, but for this totally fits the neighborhood. Really good coffees and the baristas are nice and friendly.
Unfortunate. My wife’s coffee with water added was luke warm and the organic banana bread was undersized and stale. My Americano was hot but lacked good espresso flavor.
Absolutely the best cup of coffee in town
Really delicious pour-over coffee. Given Covid, not a great place to hang out though.
I had a Nutella late. Not only was it exceptional, but the staff there is great.Prices are good.If you are at the convention center, go out a back door, cross market and go here.Prop a door open so you dont need to walk all the way back around the front 😀
Love this place. Unpretentious. Friendly staff. I can focus on my work and get a great cup of chai and crispy rice bun.
This is great coffee shop. The brewing quality is excellent and well worth the price. The employees are friendly and the service is quick. Theres enough tables and seating for those who need to work on their laptops.
I come here 4 days a week. Not only is their coffee great (I recommend the Spanish Latte) but the staff is always super friendly and accommodating. They have a wide range of choices and even offer fresh in-house grounds. On top of that, the WiFi is great and I can work for hours without any interruptions. Go here!
They roast their own beans and they know what is up. Seriously, if you love coffee you must stop by. I rarely find places that know what is up when it comes to coffee, these guys do. Skip Starbucks... Show up here and enjoy
Cute little spot in downtown San Jose. The coffee they make here is unique and tastes lovely!I highly suggest trying out the Viennese Coffee (lightly sweet, with whipped cream), order it for in house. And theyre Breakfast Bagel on an Everything Bagel hits the spot!If you are a lover of coffee, coffee shops, and good music, I highly recommend coming here. And it doesnt seem to be too busy in the mornings between 6-9am. Im definitely coming back!!
This was my first place, something new to try. Its warm and quiet great place to go on your laptop or sit and relax with one or two friends. I tried the caramel frappe added with an espresso shot. Its pretty good. I would come back again. I want to try their ice lattes.
Friendly baristas,good,strong coffee(double espresso).But the surrounding areas....Terrible....
Small, charming place with some very good coffee. A big range of beans from around the world, but perhaps the coffee that we ordered was a tiny bit to acidic, even for us Scandinavians..
Probably my favorite coffee place in downtown SJ so far! They offer unique roasts, theyre helpful, and the location is convenient for me to get to on foot. They sell beans by the pound, but it can get pricey (I paid almost $20 for a 1/2 lb o.O) so ask about prices if youre budget conscious.
Great location to chill, eat some good food. I will be bringing friends next time. Food is like a restaurant in Jacksonville I loved.
Medium roast everything! Finally a coffee shop that knows best. Delicious espresso (served with a side of sparkling water).
