FoodI had the cove combo, two eggs, two bacon and half waffle. It was good. I accompanied it with a mango mimosa and that was good and refreshing. The vegetarian curry is good as well.ServiceStaff is awesome, super friendly and attentive. We got here like 30 min eights before they closed and their service was pretty good.
The Cove is one of my friends and my favorite spots in the Castro. The food is reasonably priced and plentiful. I especially like their fried cauliflower as a starter. Ive tried a few things from burgers, salads and dinner items; all have been well prepared and are tasty. The servers are all very friendly and attentive. they go out of their way to be accommodating including refills on soft drinks and substitutions on sides. the decor is sparse, but not bad for a diner. We often choose this as a place to have a business dinner and the staff has never tried to shoo us out quickly. The service has always been excellent and Ive never had a bad meal at the Cove.
Great service very friedly staff!! Now the chicken fried steak was more like chicken jerky!! Even all the gravy on it did not rehydrate it!! But the eggs over easy were perfect.Would definitely eat there again but not the chicken fried steak!!
Had a lovely brunch here. Prices were fine for the size of food. Be sure to be ready for a little wait, the staff was working hard and fast, but there are a lot of tables. So sit back and relax and enjoy the street view. There was a little drag show from next door happening and it made for a more entertaining experience 🏳️🌈
Annie who was my waitress is really nice. She is very friendly and polite. I love going to the restaurant for my Sunday afternoon hot chocolate!
Great iconic restaurant in the Castro. Service is very attentive and friendly. Coffee is fresh and made locally. The food was good.I had the omelet with toast and hash browns. The omelet was soft and had just the right amount of filling. Prices were reasonable. Lots of regulars come here. They have all you can drink mimosa.
A MUST!!! I was literally waiting to review this place. I LOVE IT!!!Not only the location is awesome, also the staff is super friendly and helping a lot. I could even mix and match my 2-2-2 breakfast with a special pancake they offered and it was served all in an exceptional, professional and loving way.Esthetic and beautiful!Thats how I love to start a morning (especially a Monday morning when visiting San Francisco and the Castro district).
8.25.21 Tasty fresh food and excellent service. Thanks guys!
Love the parklet! Food and service are always good here.
Solid and friendly lunch spot. Looking and tasting good post-COVID.
Good food, great breakfast and brunch menu. Wholesome lunches and dinners. Reasonable prices. Still owned by the family that started it. Really nice wait staff. One of the very few places in the Castro district that hasnt changed much since I moved to SF in the 70s. Back then it was called The Norse Cove.
Great service and great food. I would definitely go back.
Very hospitable staff, and quality ingredients!
The food was delicious. The staff is friendly. Centrally located in the heart of the Castro. Close to shops and shopping
Friendly coffee shop with pretty good coffee shop food. A mainstay in the Castro
Delicious chow and great service but too many mirrors!
Fantastic diner (?) Not really sure what to classify this menu lol delicious suits it though. Clam Chowder was great, and a filling proportion. My friend is a big French fry nommer and absolutely smashed these hahaa (got a pretty evil look when I snatched a couple off the plate, so guess that means they were good 😂)Polite service, fast plating, thanks guys!
They have outside sitting and are performing the protocol of covid (they dont have indoor sitting which is good!).They have the seats pretty far from each others and so youd feel safe! I felt lucky that I didnt have to wait for the table and there was one seat empty. The waiters are friendly, and pretty fast to deliver your orders and pretty attentive.
So happy to see small business is back to life.
The food is awesome and our server was super kind!!
Had wide outdoor seating to deal with COVID 👍 Enjoyed the nice warm sandwich I had. Nice atmosphere around the place. Would go again
Great cozy place. Outdoor seating was great, our waitress was the sweetest, and you could tell the owner knew all the locals & takes pride in his business! My girlfriend loved her burger and my sandwich was delish!!
There’s nothing really special about their food. It’s a typical American diner style food that’s overpriced.
Friendly staff. Reasonable prices!
Wonderful experience and the staff is great.
Nice cafe with friendly staff a popular cafe with locals
Cute little wholesome American dinner with a long history of serving the community. Outside tables where nice, but sidewalks are very busy
Our food is good home cooking, all dishes made from scratch using quality ingredients, and portions to match none other. The best three or four soups in town served daily. And youll find only the best customers, too. Our staff are welcoming, fun and familiar ... But you cant forget the most caring & kindest owners; Maurice and Solange (Mo & So), all making you like family. Enjoying !
Bottomless mimosas ALL DAY! Must purchase an entree but youll be thanking yourself once you realize how quick they refill your glass. The brie Beyond burger was delicious, I cant wait to go back even just for that.
Solange is simply THE best business owner in the Castro. I have been going to cove for close to 30 years and every single time, she greets me with hug and a kiss. Food is good. Wait staff is awesome.
Serves mainly American food which is always cooked to your specifications. The prices are great. The fact that The Cove is usually crowded speaks for itself. One of my favorite places to eat.
I have been going to The Cove on Castro for the last 3 years. The service is exceptional and their food is always perfect. I cant emphasize enough what a delightful experience I have every time I go to this restaurant.I routinely attend their weekend brunch, including bottomless mimosas, and have tried nearly every omelette on the menu.If you find yourself in the Castro, please do check out the Cove. I promise you wont be disappointed.
I had the country fried steak and it was delicious. Tender and very flavorful as were the side veggies and potatoes. Would recommend it for some good comfort food
Wonderful atmosphere, excellent food, and the service.... It was fantabulous!!!!
Very simple breakfast food which is a bit pricey for what it is. Cute diner vibes.
Ive been going to The Cove on the Castro for 30 years! The food is always superb but the main selling point is that many staff have also worked for this restaurant for 30 years! I love the staff and I love to see this continuity. Theres a very low turnover in personnel and this speaks volumes to me about the owner and management.
The staff were very friendly and eager to make your meal comfortable. And the food was awesome!! I had the Irish Benedict, LOVED EVER BITE!!
Hash browns. Try it here. They recognize your preference immediately from second visit. Really sweet of them. A little pricey however.
The best diner style restaurant in the Castro! Great food and great service! The staff are all friendly as is the owner who is often working along side her staff! The atmosphere is very neighborly!I must add that this place has the best chicken fried steak in the city!
Always great food in a comfortable neighborhood atmosphere. I usually go for breakfast - Fantastic big omelettes! Everyone I go with raves about their pancakes and waffles too.
I am happy to say that this is now one of my favorite places to go. The food is consistent and the wait staff are very pleasant and accommodating. The homemade soups are probably one of my favorite things here. They also have a nice variety of choices for breakfast and, they keep the coffee coming...I love that.
Great service, casual environment, and good food! While we were there the staff celebrated a regular customers birthday and the whole restaurant sang for him. They brought him a whole cake and even offered us and other customers a piece. Ill definitely be going back here! Everyone is treated like a regular here!
The atmosphere still here, the staff, and the food are all great here.Service is not always lightning fast, but its always competent and friendly. Theyre all good people.Their food is not fancy, but well prepared and tasty. In several years of visiting here, Ive had one problem one time (burnt toast). Thats a really good record. My local fast food joints dont get it right that often. Can be busy, but the wait is very rarely more than a few minutes. I know they do it, but Ive only seen a sign-in list once.
Incredible service, food was tasty and fast. They custom made a burger for us without any questions. Great experience!
Definitely a place I recommend for a brunch. They have good omelettes, hash browns, Tater tots and burgers. The owner speak French. Plan to spend more time than other places. Its not a fast food and sometimes it takes time to be served.
Delicious food great waitperson
Good local quick bite place. Get a spot by the window and you can see all the excitement walk by outside.
Comforting Cafe on bustling Castro street providing a welcome respite from all the activity outside.Food is standard cafe fare - not gourmet or trying to be more than it is, its just honest food.
Service was friendly and pleasant. The breakfast was delicious. Its a small place and we had to wait for a bit, but it was worth it!!👌
The staff are friendly and they have gluten-free bread so I can order a sandwich
Went for breakfast. Good menu also with healthier options. Food was prepared to my liking and arrived quickly. Everything tastes good as well
Super warm, cozy and traditional café with incredibly friendly staff which contrasts greatly to other places in the Castro that are generally pretty aloof or snooty. I love the classic menu choices! Its hard to find a good turkey club or a huge salad these days. 100% Stan this place
I had read that this place was one of the top places for breakfast/brunch and mimosas and while I did not have the latter I did have the veggie eggs Benedict which is not on the menu but one made for me when I informed them I was vegetarian. Super efficient and friendly service full of friendly locals. Not a trendy looking place but very local-looking.
Best service in the city. Food is homey and solid overall, but its the staff and patrons that make the experience here great
Good food at a great price. Reminiscent of old school diners. The selection was pretty impressive and the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Nice to find a good restaurant like this in the middle of a great neighborhood..
The Cove on Castro is always a consistent favorite diner with tasty menu items, quality ingredients and served with attentive friendly staff. Serving Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Great portions and moderately priced.
Three outside tables on warm days with your dogs available. Located 1/2 block from Market St.Has been at location since the 70s I was told. Can get crowded especially during weekends. Good selection of meals.
Great food, great scene, great customer service. Love this place.
Conveniently located opposite the Castro theatre, this is a nice no frills cafe to come for a quick bite. The owners were very friendly and I really enjoyed the cauliflower fritters. They have a large selection of herbal and caffeine teas. Nice for a quick bite in the Castro area.
A great place for any meal...any time of the day...any day of the week. Silage and the entire staff really do treat you as family. The photos and videos on the screens are great to watch, too.
Great diner style place for brunch. Endless mimosas and homey style food make for a great experience. The gay vibe is present but not too strong to keep away straights, it make you feel welcome and at home.
Great diner. Great food. Friendly fast service. Delicious food and very reasonably priced.
Decent food. Friendly service. Try the soups!
My friend and I ate here for brunch and bottomless mimosas before going to a singalong at the Castro Theater right across the street.I ordered the Carnivore Scramble, and it was pretty good. Is there really much to complain about with eggs, cheese, Irish bangers, bacon, and ham? The bangers were pretty tasty. They had a peppery and earthy flavor from maybe coriander, sage, and nutmeg. We also had an order of the buckwheat pancakes, and we both liked them. They were fluffy and had a warm nutmeg or mace flavor to them. The syrup was just sweet and didnt taste that maple-y, but it was fine considering CoC is just a low key neighborhood diner. There were two mimosas available that day: a regular and strawberry lime one. The regular mimosa wasnt anything remarkable. It just kinda tasted like watered down orange juice. I thought the strawberry lime one was better. It was sweeter and tasted more fruity. Cant really go wrong with bottomless booze for $10.95, and it was perfect for lubricating our vocal cords.
We are visiting SF from the UK and have eaten twice at The Cove. The food was delicious both times, we had a Swiss and cheese omelette for Saturday brunch then shared pancakes, service was friendly and efficient, coffee was quickly refilled. This evening we had the turkey and the beef brisket special, both meals were delicious and everything tasted fresh and home cooked. The only slightly disappointing thing tonight, and I say this only because I worked as a server in north America for years is that if the place is quiet and customers tip over 20% its nice to make a point of saying thank you.Id go back for sure!
The foods good but the service is hit or miss... coming from someone whose worked as a server for years, a condescending attitude never looks good for the business no matter how long youve been working with the restaurant. I was embarrassed by the service to my very polite out of town guests who only asked a couple of questions about some menu items.
Restaurants come and go in the Castro. Always nice to return to a familiar place in the neighborhood.
Lovely local place with personable service and fresh comfort food.
They continue to weather the times and dynamics placed on the commerce of the neighborhood, providing good food and friendly wait staff. The best corned beef hash in the Castro, theres lots of actual corned beef in it where as a few kosher places in about a mile radius you can scarely make out the corned beef in the hash at twice the price. Customers have been welcomed as neighbors for over 40 years (myself about 30 yrs), their style has been welcoming, as they trend fresh food at reasonable prices.
Very disappointing. Breakfast came to us within 8 mins of ordering. English muffins were soggy and limp. Hash browns were pressed/formed and very oily. Chicken fried steak was GOOD but very thin. Loved the gravy. Two of us, same meal coffee (x1) and OJ (x1) $40+. Very expensive for an early AM, mediocre meal. Kudos though, to top-notch staff!
Historic neighborhood spot. Excellent classic diner food
Breakfast dishes were very good. Very friendly service.
Great food and great service!!! Highly recommended!!
Lovely service, great food. On sunny morning brunch, hot chocolate that isnt overly sweet but pack a punch of cocoa; French toast with flavour that you want to savor; bacon that is crispy and tender at the same time.... you need to try yourself to find out. :)
Great food! Great service. Friendly staff. Will be back again!
If there is a smoked trout Benedict get it...Always exceptional service.Has that amazing small town diner feel alongside great food.
I enjoyed a relaxing late luncheon with my friend over a lovely grilled cheese and a delightful tomato bisque! We mapped out our route to Palm Springs! If ya got the Castro...lunch at the COVE!
Inexpensive, great menu and the staff are great! And 5ue food is awesome!
Amazing place. Really good food and the staff was really nice. We were on our honeymoon and they help us explaining where to go and see
Food is good diner fare, but not outstanding. It is consistent. The staff is friendly. Its usually crowded on the weekends but not too long of a wait.
Solid breakfast joint. A treasure in a trendy neighborhood.
Its a great place to chill and enjoy the scene along Castro. Located right across the road from Castro Theatre, this place serves good soups (clam chowder and tomato bisque), and the service is brilliant. Pricepoint is also not exorbitant, so if youre looking for a place to sit down after a long day, heres a place you could consider.
They have the most delicious biscuits and gravy. Very sweet servers and yes, bottomless mimosas for a really low cost. Been coming here for a few years now and I keep coming back.
Dinner food, convenient, the staff is great go there for the best
Nice little restaurant in the Castro. Personable and attentive staff, the food was good and served quickly. Could become our weekend breakfast joint.
Historic, classic old diner in the Castro. Everything is perfect..
Comfy, warm, good food, nice people...but be sure to clarify how you want your poached eggs cooked.
Just walked past it and we wanted a bite to eat and we got lucky with this cute wee diner. staff was very attentive and food was on point and if I come back to the neighborhood, I will be back.
Super large portions. Fast friendly service.
My favourite Castro breakfast! Magnificent staff, delicious gluten free BLT =)
