Brunch 4/25/2021. Tennessee Grill has a truck stop feel to it. Both the indoor and outdoor decor can use a renovation. Today, I got the Mandalay Slam (bacon, ham, sausage link, patty two eggs.) Service was fast and the food came out quick. The waitress was attentive on the coffee refills. The food was not bad. The hash browns came out slightly crispy but was still too mushy for me in the middle. It lacked that buttery taste. The English muffins came pre-buttered, which was nice. Overall, this was not a bad meal. Thanks Tennessee Grill!
This place used to be much better. It smells a bit greasy when you walk in, but the service and food was fast and good!
Great place for breakfast. I’ve eaten here on many occasions. Steak, eggs, hash browns, and toast for just over twenty dollars. Classic diner with a bar, plenty of seating on each side of the restaurant. Recommended for individual or group outings.
Very good food and Great 👍 staff and location. As a SF native married to an exceptional Chaatonoga Tennessee man I was thrilled when I learned that my wonderful home city of San Francisco has a wonderful Tennessee restaurant! Weve happily gone there several times since we discovered it!!
Service is good. The staff makes us feel welcome. The foodis very good. Feels like home.
Came here with my sister and her family. Not that exciting for me and wont come back unless its something my sister really wanted...Street parking, so you might have to circle a bit, but its the city, so no big deal. Seating was fast and pretty friendly staff. Multiple people were serving our table, not sure its because the size of the party or what.As food goes, do your traditional egg and bacon stuff, dont do anything fancy.
Good n yummy food, prices r worth n fishes r fresh n cooked good.Sides r nice 2.Good place 4 seniors or couples.Facilities r very good, especially the design.Great
Service was good. Food was soso. I enjoyed the sourdough bread. I had New york steak it wasnt seasoned. They do make their own mashed potatoes fresh. The gravy was thick and salty. Hubby had meatloaf he gave ot 3 out of 5 stars.
Excellent Choice of Food for The Family & Friends from anywhere that enjoys the Friendly Atmosphere and well known Service 😀and a great many Meals to choose from. I and a friend eat there often and feel right at home.
The food is fantastic, and its a great value for the area. Ive NEVER seen the workers so busy! They know what theyre doing, and they do it well.
Best breakfast diner food Ive had, with amazingly kind staff!
Great place for meeting old timers and hard working people. If you come on a semi regular basis, you become family.
A real diner! Good breakfast, awesome prices.
Good food, service and prices.
Great food great service. Opens early!
Their omelettes are delicious!! I had the mushroom and spinach one!!
We stopped by there after a funeral, just warms my heart how comforting the staff was and how good the food was and how nice that place can be.
I had the eggs, sausage and home fries the other day and they were excellent. However the omelettes arent great - they come out more like frittata s than fluffy omelettes
One of my favorite breakfast spots! Perhaps it’s more sentimental for me for some reasons, but the food is great, well priced, and the staff is friendly and quick! We order takeout for now and can’t wait til the pandemic blows over.
Great place for food. Pricing is better. Food is good. Nothing extravagant just good decent food.
Clean and old school establishment/diner. Breakfast (pancakes, bacon and eggs) . Early morning breakfast works for me!
Good food at a reasonable price.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. COMFORTABLE, INEXPENSIVE, NICE PEOPLE, GREAT SERVICE. NOT PRETENTIOUS. DELICIOUS FOOD. IF YOU ARE NOT SNOTTY YOU WILL LOVE THIS PLACE TOO.
Great service, Wonderful people, friendly and we and warm welcome!
This place is a diner with the look and feel of the 1940’s with perhaps a couple of subsequent remodelings, the latest probably around the 1980’s. Its sort of nostalgic in a low rent kinda way. It might have been a place for a decent meal in the past but its appeal today certainly isn’t in the food. Its mostly food-service quality ingredients indifferently prepared. There are a few specials in a mostly typical diner menu but none of them warrant much of a mention. Its only redeeming factor is that its cheap, at least by SF standards. In a city that’s rapidly gentrifying it’s exceptional to see something of the more prosaic survive intact and viable. So go, sit down in a booth or at the counter, have a meal and enjoy the ambiance. This is a relic of a not too distant past when San Francisco was San Francisco. I’m glad it’s still here.
Good food and great service..
One of my favorite places in SF. Friendly staff, fast service and actual affordable prices. I usually get breakfast. Chicken fried steak and gravy. My wife loves the Lou’s Special.Down to earth cooking
Love this place. Great, especially for Breakfast/Brunch. The service is excellent. The people are friendly.
This is a very good and affordable place to eat in the Sunset district, which is hard to find. We only had breakfast, but have been there twice and it is really good. Waitresses are nice and friendly. Their lunch and dinner specials look really good, just havent made it there yet. Definitely would go back.
This is the kind of place that you go for cheap, hearty, food. My partner and I can get out the door for $25 total. Unheard of in this city. Dont go here if youre looking for a new hip hang out with modern decor and gourmet menu, this isnt that kind of place. But if you want a no frills burger piled high with american cheese and classic toppings this place is perfect for that. The rustic, diner, interior feels like a diner that can be picked up and placed anywhere in the country. No frills here. Just cheap, fatty, food fresh off the griddle... A simple comfort thats hard to find these days.
No frills diner in the deep Sunset off Taraval. Standard diner fare, consistent, and fast turn around. Come here for a quick in and out, parking can get tight.
Great neighborhood diner that is still going strong after the 7+ years Ive known about it. Above average food quality with below average prices = a great place for good and cheap breakfast! I particularly recommend the biscuits and gravy and the corn beef hash
Good old breakfast place, good food, good service with reasonable price
Cheap eats and decent food.
Neighborhood go-to diner. Good value. The noise level was high. Had breakfast. Lous Special was good. Bacon was flimsy. Coffee was weak but plentiful. Servers are helpful and serve with a smile. Overall Id say its what you expect for a diner. Will go again.
Great Breakfast and Service. Local neighborhood place with lots of Regulars. Had the French Toast special which was just the right amount with a side of hashbrowns at a fair price. Not a fancy place but a nice neighborhood place that has been around for a long time. Friendly attentive service.
The food isnt necessarily the most flavorful, but you definitely get an awesome deal for the price and was exactly what I expected from a little diner/grill. And dont get me wrong, the food is really good. You get a real nice breakfast or lunch that will keep you filled until Dinner. I would much rather eat here, get a significantly better portion of food that tasted good, and that is at half the price then getting slightly more flavorful food at double the price and half the portions. Stop here if your looking for a quick bite at a good price.
The waitress is hot.
I visited this eatery about 20 yrs ago. I friend brought me here. I remembered good vibes here. So today, by fate, I was in area. I enjoy these eateries where you can belly up to the counter! Dont remember the staff. However, the present staff appears to carry on the cordiality I felt yrs ago! Food was good. Comfort food. Coffee was good. I dont need nothing fancy to eat. Im a blue collar service guy who just wanted to eat something. Hungry.Come on down! See you here!Ill be back.
Great food, great service, great prices. Wide variety on the menu. Its a funky kind of cool place. It is a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Its the kind of place that you can come as you are. Its not fancy, but its homie.
Very friendly staff. They have tons of regulars which I think is a testament to the service and quality. I especially love their pancakes. Really solid breakfast spot and super casual lunch/dinner option.
Very popular and busy but not over crowded when I went. My Irish breakfast tasted good and there was plenty there. I enjoyed the endless coffee also 👍
This is my neighbors restaurant and I didnt even know it we walked in will used to go there all the time he bought us dinner I was surprised to see he was the owner and the food is just as good as when we ate there years ago highly recommended Tennessee Grill what a breakfast I know launchers are just as good then dinner is even better
Some of the fastest service ive ever had at a restaurant. Super friendly staff, great dive diner vibe. Good eats. Good prices. Highly recommend.
This place has been here forever, heard about it back in high school bit never got a chance to try it out until now. The food here is your classic breakfast / lunch diner. Its very popular with the locals, as itself around forever and even expanded the area a while back. Food portions isnt gigantic nor is is petite, I say its just right for the price. Service is excellent, very friendly waitress that makes sure your mug is always filled. Very few places like this around its location, making this place fairly special.
Sat at the bar. Fast friendly service. Fresh garden salad. Juicy patty melt!
Just a fun stop (3.5) for an SF native who doesnt necessarily care about fine cuisine. Good homestyle breakfast. Noisy on the weekends. Miss the old fashioned cinnamon rolls.
Solid greasy spoon American food joint. Solid breakfast and burgers with a very nice staff. Fair prices and roomy area. Would eat there again for a simple affordable meal.
Old school SF style diner. Not fancy. Not super trendy. Just good food served by nice people.
Great old fashioned down home food. Nice friendly service and the prices are better than most places. They have nice variety for everyone. All day breakfast, seafood choices, roast beef, pasta and char broiled burgers and hot fresh fries.
Comfort food at really cheap prices with friendly staff. Nothing fancy. All the basics. Good homemade meals!
Sat at the counter today. My third time here in four years.Good service. Very friendly. Nice menu. Great food.Very decent prices. BUT The BEST part of your house is Pedro, your cook/chef!!!!Not only is he bi lingual, friendly,, well kept under pressure, preps things AND serves when needed. I was amazed to watch him. This guy is outstanding!!! 18 years at your place??? Hes a keeper. What more can I say........If I only had my own place again,Pedro would be the first on the hire list.
Reasonable price and neighborhood kind of place... no frills, fast service and the food is always good
Im giving three stars rather than two because the servers were very warm and attentive. Maybe the breakfast is good, but dont order the turkey club. The turkey was like thick cut mystery meat, mealy tomatoes, pickles tasted like a dirty refrigerator.
The food came out quick, the servers were very on point and it is just a really relaxing atmosphere 😊
Big fan of this place...I have been enjoying eating here for 49 years! Great for breakfast anytime of day... Pot roast ..very good! You also cant beat the Tennessee Special..great burger/fries combo ! I like it on a french roll with Cheddar cheese. Bacon also a great option. Prices are quite reasonable....Great people serving here. All very attentive and smiling !
My favorite local breakfast and dinerVery kind and nice serviceI love everything there especially their corned beefYum!
Love a good old fashioned grill cheese sandwich with fries and a shake from here. Nice neighborhood place.
My boyfriend and I are regulars. Absolutely the best breakfast... fast service and great portions. My go to restaurant in the entire city.
Good prices, set up is a little vintage very old school. From a friend of mine he said its never changed, from the menu to the process. We got the Tennessee special he loved it so he give them five starts for him .. me it was okay three stars
Good food and friendly customer services. Thanks for being a long time close to my house and convenient.
As usual, Tennessee Grill was very good!! For a group of 7 guys, we were served promptly, the veggie omelette, french toast, pancakes, bacon, and suasage were well prepared and served promptly. It is our go-to place in the Avenues for breakfast!!
Though the prices were reasonable the quality of the cooking was just fair. The grilled filet of sole was overcooked, dry, and chewy and the lemons provided were so dry that there was no juice to squeeze out. The vegetables were frozen so I told them to hold them but was served them anyway. The other entree the grilled tilapia was properly cooked but had little flavor but the tartar sauce redeemed it. The positives were the reasonable prices and each dinner entree came with a good salad or soup and fresh sourdough french bread with two pats of butter. Popular with neighborhood clientele but not much to recommend it for other diners.
I had the Irish breakfast. Probably not the smartest choice.toast of your choice, 2 eggs, 1 sausage 1 rasher and 1 black and white pudding. Rather expensive for what you get. It didnt taste great either. I would go back to try something else just not the Irish breakfast!
Real tasty food
Its not fancy, but provides honest diner food, with generous portions in a large space. The wait staff are sweet and friendly. My personal favorite is the liver and onions, but all their food is decent and filling.
Excellent food and service!!!
Great food had a cheese burger with bacon. My wife had one with half avacado so she was very happy about that. Friendly staff and great prices only came out to $21
A great old, greasy diner with fast and friendly service perfect for a classic breakfast. The tractor seat barstools are surprisingly comfy. Definitely crazy on Sunday mornings after the church crowd comes in so Id just avoid it altogether.Only real complaint is that the waffles arent so great; usually kinda dry. Maybe they use their pancake batter for both?
Had lunch here with some friends and ordered the Lous Special - Corned Beef, Mushrooms, Spinach, Eggs, Hash Browns, and Toast. The portions were pretty generous and the prices were reasonable. The hash browns were probably the least greasy hash browns Ive had, so if youre trying to be healthy but are craving hash browns, I guess this would be worth trying. The corned beef, mushrooms, spinach, and eggs were all scrambled together. It has the potential to be really good, but the corned beef was kind of tough and wasnt as flavorful as I wanted it to be. I couldnt really taste much of the brine and pickling spices. Without the corned beef to provide the salty backbone, the other ingredients dont have much else to build on.I can see why locals would come here. Its not expensive, and the place has an old retro charm, but I wouldnt go out of my way to eat here.
Had breakfast & lunch here 3 or 4 times during a week we were filming a commercial nearby.Quick service. Good food. Generous portions. Reasonable prices. Never had to wait for seating. Lots of regulars & old timers. Will return...
Ive been coming here my entire life it seems and the quality has not diminished over time. For breakfast, I recommend the Mandalay Slam, which is a meat lovers dream. You also cant go wrong with a burger and fries combo at any time of the day. I highly recommend visiting at least once in your life, especially if you enjoy diners.
Very laid back, easy going diner. One of my favorite places to grab a quick meal in Outer Sunset. Menu is pretty big, and their specials are good as well. Ive had Lasagna, Ham w/pineapple, French Dips, omelettes, and more there. Their Beef Stroganoff was very delicious, but its not offered every day. Staff is very friendly as well. Check em out.
Nice neighborhood diner thats an established place Since 1952 in the Parkside area. One of the few diners in the neighborhood that have hash-browns for breakfast. Although I had breakfast, I perused the menu; seems like a wide selection. The person that waited on me was extremely friendly and efficient; also, made sure my coffee cup was full.
I like sitting at the counter to eat. The food is yummy. Like home cooking. Service is great and fast.
Old school restaurant, price is right, portion is great. Very quick serve. Their special was pretty good. Satisfied lunch.
Great neighborhood place to eat. Simple, affordable. Every village needs one of these no nonsense diners.
Great Diner. Good food. Great prices
Friendly staff and customers. One of the last true diner in SF sunset district. Fast service cooked in front of you. Great breakfast place open early with good coffee
The food, pretty good. Service very good. Price very good. Atmosphere, reminds me of an east coast diner.
Good food, and good price . Friendly staff. Just need a little of renovation in the bathroom area.
Workingmans Cafe, just good old fashioned blue collar diner. Breakfast is always great, service fast, burgers a great value, great fries. What else could you want?
I have been going here longer than I care to remember and its always consistent. My fave is the Patty melt and fries which is perfect every time. My family usually get the super Burger. My waitress comes to the table with my regular ice tea and lemon even before I order; even if I have been there in months!
Excellent !
Great food and great price.
Great food and good company this place has a wide variety of American dishes that can help with any hunger pain. They can accommodate 6-8 people if needed and have high chairs for the kids. Good family place
Good food, kind staff, great prices. What more do you need?
I don’t often write reviews, especially not negative ones, but I was so disappointed by my experience here. This was THE blandest meal I have ever eaten. I ordered a coffee, then an iced tea and the NY steak (medium-rare) with mashed potatoes. The steak had zero seasoning on it, not even salt and pepper. It was also undercooked. The mashed potatoes were flavorless, except for the gravy - which was pretty boring too. It also came with veggies...that looked like the same “Mixed Vegetable” blend that you can buy frozen at Costco: corn, peas, green beans, and carrot chunks. Which, by the way, also flavorless. The coffee was okay, but small mug (I guess to be expected from a diner). The iced tea had a lemon-y flavor, but no lemon in sight. The only somewhat redeeming quality was the portion size for the price. Even the service was spotty, despite it being pretty slow and after the brunch/lunch crowd time (I arrived about 1:30pm). Based on reading some other reviews, I guess this is a popular local spot, so it’s possible I just ordered the “wrong” thing for a neighborhood diner. But still, I was severely underwhelmed.
Great breakfast place. I used to come here decades ago with my dad for lunch. Their chicken noodle soup was delicious.
Good customer service makes this diner experience complete.
Just right and great service. I also noticed their very considerate service to many regulars who were seniors. Cool fun mixed crowd.
