First time in San Francisco, this was our first stop of our arrival. We found this location on Google and decided to give it a try. Customer service was amazing! They were very friendly. Food was GOOD! Big portions and best of all, they had vegan options. The only downside, they didn’t have vegan mac&cheese during that time. Other than that, cute little spot. Highly recommend.
I have ate at many breakfast places and many vegan places all over the USA. This place is the BEST IVE HAD by far. It is flavorful, colorful, well balanced, and the service was great. My servers name was Ronny and he was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu items. I was very impressed by the vegan pancakes they werent grainy and the vegan mess, contrary to its name was very well put together. Not too much tofu, not too many vegetables. The breakfast burrito was FULL of eggs and cheese and topped with savory tomato sauce, I loved it. Lastly, the huevos rancheros had a twist I havent had before. Usually I have a tostada under the eggs topped with salsa. Here in California it was a soft corn tortilla a subtle but welcomed change. Please come eat at this place. VEGANS and MEAT eaters alike will love eating here. Its absolutely AMAZING.
Great Cafe with lots of vegan and vegetarian options with an original cafe/diner look & feel. I got the Devil Burger where your choice of meat is actually seitan( gluten protein ) which was very juicy and taste. I also tried the banana soy milkshake and my mother accompanied and got the chocolate banana; both were great. I couldnt stop staring at other tables and the food coming out. Has retro and original candys on hand like jawbreaker, throwback tootsie and other options.
Nice little spot, great vegan options, friendly staff. Overall it was a nice place to have breakfast in the city.
The food and service here are excellent. I was super impressed with the freshness of the scramble I ordered, and the banana bread is killer. Highly recommend. The weekend special eggs benedict with avocado is also very good. There will be a wait on the weekends but it moves pretty fast and once seated, service is quick and friendly, and the coffee is good.
Went there for brunch and loved the place. It looks like its been there forever and I liked the decorations. A classic diner. We ordered the chefs mess, the nebulous potato thing and some pancakes. They were delicious!! I also had a root beer float and I loved it a lot. Their ice cream is just perfect. The service is really friendly.
Old school diner with original breakfast dishes and a friendly staff. Portions are large and the price is good, so youll leave happy. Come on a weekday to avoid the weekend rush. I ordered the Chefs Mess which is an amalgamation of potatoes, eggs, onions, mushrooms, melted cheese, and topped with sour cream and tomatoes. Meal comes with a side bread, I was recommended the banana bread and was not disappointed; served toasted and perfect with a little butter.
Good food many vegan options. Very nice service
Fun, old school diner that serves up a comforting breakfast at a great price. They can get busy and do not always have someone at the door to attend to customers. If so, look out for the clipboard in front of the entrance and put your name down to get in the line asap. If you wait for someone to help you, they will tell you to put your name down on the board anyway. I loved the spinach, mushroom and egg scramble and especially the side of banana bread. Sit at the bar for fun views of staff making milk shakes.
I was out visiting a friend of a friend and I wanted to find a spot to have a vegan breakfast. I went online and found this awesome diner was a 5-minute walk from his home. Boy am I glad I did. The place looked great, the staff was cheerful and amazing, the service was top notch, and, even with the Vegan accommodations I requested, the food was awesome and extremely well priced. I ordered a Vegan tofu scramble, Vegan apple sausage, and Vegan pancakes (plus coffee) and it was all fantastic. I will absolutely be back!
This is a diner vibe you did not know you were missing until you get here. They still believe in bottomless coffees and booth conversations. All the staff here was warm and friendly.
I was a regular in the 70s.The new kids are doing alright. Great service, really good food.
This might be one of my new favorite spots in the city!Super cute old school diner... such friendly staff, good service, tasty diner fare, feels straight out of the 50s.If youre a BLT person, go for the Baltimore. I really liked the fries, slightly soft potatoey but with crispy bits too. And dont miss the milkshakes! Thick and served in a huge shaker, just like they should be.
Good breakfast options for vegans and vegetarians. Great taste and ambience.
This place is great! Just what you want in a diner. Awesome to find a place in the city that doesnt gouge on prices
Ok breakfast. Went here, for a few options were closed for holidays. At first glance, I was amazed at the ol’ school flare of the soda shop. Even the soap dispenser in the restroom took me WAY-back. I ordered a traditional breakfast, but took a star off, for the pancakes were a little burnt (noticeable in taste). 2nd star was for Customer Service. Not the worst, but no where near the best.
Oldest diner in SF, apparently. Very cool authentic local fare also.
Delicious diner-style brunch food with large portions. Old-school furniture and architecture makes you feel like youve gone back to when they opened in 1918. I recommend the Chefs Mess if youre looking for a hearty breakfast. My only complaint is that the coffee isnt very good, but everything else makes up for it.
Great place over a 100 years
Do you like breakfast, okay then youll love this place!
Consistent. One of the best breakfast places in the Bay Area. I usually order either the Griddle Combo with blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon or sausage patty, or the Fried Egg Sandwich with avocado and tomato. A+. And prior to COVID-19, a side of Biscuits and Gravy, not offered at this time. Wait staff, friendly, helpful but not overly attentive. Go here, support these guys, you will be rewarded with quality foods. Apologies, no photos.
The food was quick and delicious. Our servers were very nice.
This is one of my favorite places in SF, and I will legit move out of the city if they ever close.
Im not vegan but I got the vegan rancheros....its sooooo dang good. Definitely will come again Thanks!!
Eat outside or order to pick up. Food is delicious. And most meals can be made vegan including some milkshakes. Inside they kept just about all of it looking as it did in the 50/60s not sure when it opened.there is where chair access even when indoors. There are lots of metered parking(free in sundays). Prices are good too. Gets packed early. So expect at least a short wait sometimes can be like 45min. For two people. Facility is clean and service is great.
Delicious as usual! Its our favorite place in the neighborhood
Best pancakes I’ve ever had!
SF original with better food and ambiance than any vc backed wagyu coffee dump could dream of. Great vegetarian options too.
Went to this diner with a group of 15 colleagues and every one loved it. Food was fresh and home made, quick service, amazing deserts and great prices. We went on a Wednesday and some of us had the Hot chicken and it was great. The desert of the red velvet cake was a large slice and taste great.. also had the bacon donut and it is life changing.
Was able to sit outside on the beautiful day. Service was excellent.Burger and fries were delicious. A little expensive, especially considering the neighborhood.
Pancakes 🥞 strawberry 🍓 extra syrup
St. Francis Fountain is an amazing restaurant its on the corner of 24th and York. They offer a wide variety of vegan and vegetarian options for breakfast and lunch. It is surrounded by taquerias that do not do vegan or vegetarian so if youre looking for a great veggie meal check out St Francis fountain on 24th and York you wont be sorry.
Nice to see places with plant based options
Delicious food, friendly service, outdoor dining.
This place is a retro ice cream joint with great food and cool workers behind the counter. 2 people who took it over after the original family had it kept it exactly the way it was before. I really enjoy retro dining experiences and this is one of the great ones in San Francisco. My hamburger was a tasty and the cup of chicken soup with cilantro was out of sight. Everybody should stop in there at least once in your life.
Great place for brunch! Outdoor seating, socially distanced.
Such an awesome diner. Been here for 100 years. Food is amazing, fried egg sandwich with bacon and the veggie mess are our favorites. They still have the sofa fountain vibe, and I recommend trying the dreamsicle as well. David helped us out this morning and provided stellar A+ service. We come here whenever we want a great diner experience!
I give this place 5 stars because its good at what it is. And what it is is a diner that serves top notch diner food for a very reasonable cost. The food is always good and as far as Ive seen, the place is not trying to be fancy with how it prepares its food, If youre in the mood for some straightforward great tasting diner food this is the place.
Really cute vintage-y place with a cool history (theyre 100 years old)! and yummy food. Really chill ambiance, great staff, a huge selection of food. Im vegetarian and always leave happy from this spot. Its also really affordable and just a fun place to hang out. Also, check out their little vintage toy shop!
I love this place. Really nice and small place to get some tasty brunch and breakfast. Their menu is pretty sizable and has tons of mix and match options, for those particular eaters. The staff were very nice and accommodating.Their sandwiches were delicious along with their chefs mess. The food always comes out pretty quick and always good. Good place for 2 or a small group (4). Prices are pretty good for SF and you get a pretty good portion of food
A cool little spot located in a sketchy part of the Mission. Youd never know this little gem was open and operating except on weekends when you see people pouring into the streets trying to get their 50s diner fix.Ive heard great things about their potatoes and their menu seems to be pretty extensive for a small local diner. Their ice cream is what I went to go check out. They serve Mitchells Ice Cream so even though I was a little disappointed by the fact that they didnt make their own batches of creamy goodness I knew I would be safe on any choice I made. I went for the Loves Delight which consisted of 2 scoops vanilla ice cream, strawberry sauce, sliced bananas, whipped cream and almonds. It was good. Kind of brought me back to childhood a bit. Back when the ice cream didnt have to be amazing to satisfy your taste buds and remember that its ok to be young again.Although, I probably wont be back anytime soon, this is a great spot to meet friends while sitting in a booth enjoying the rest of the misfit crowd that occupies this space.
Very popular local breakfast and lunch joint dating back to the 1920s, IIRC. Great bar to sit and chow down by yourself to get the day started, or grab a booth with friends. Staff are mega friendly and youll start seeing familiar faces once you go back a few times. I come here every time Im staying in Mission when I get into town.
One of the best breakfasts I ever had in one of my favorite neighborhoods in SF! Love their skillet fried potatoes. Get there early if you go on a Sunday. When youre done with breakfast, walk back to Market Street (take the bus part of the way if its too long a walk). Enjoy!
I love this place, excellent food & service. It has a great feel to it. Menu is like a cafe in Boston I liked.
Great breakfast.
Ok, dont be taken in by the its just a cute, fountain soda place on a corner, in the Mission. The breakfast I recently had there is the real deal! If you need a post-late night out, and Im starving, hearty breakfast - this place is it. The eggs, bacon, and coffee were all really solid, but the spuds were amazing. Only small complaint I have is that the cornbread didnt have much flavor and was a little too dense. The biscuit was definitely better. Liked the neighborhood feel of the place and diners there, the people felt real. I hope the obnoxious techies stay away! One of my favorite breakfast places in the City!
Met up with a friend that works at sf general hospital here for breakfast, pleasantly surprised. Fairly typical diner, but great pricing (especially for the city). Good eggs and potatoes, kept my coffee topped off, not much else you can ask for
Breakfast is fantastic. Real corned beef hash, everything from scratch. Super maintained old school dinner charm and fantastic upbeat staff. Well worth going to.
Hands down my favorite brunch place in San Francisco. Total diner food---excellent menu creations of potatoes, cheese, bacon, and sour cream. Big portions. I usually cant decide between the Chefs Mess and the Nebulous Potato Thing. Also, you MUST THING YOUR SPUDS. Just makes them delicious. There is usually a wait on weekends, but its totally worth it. Ive also come here and had a milkshake and those are quite delicious as well. Very fun, diner, hipster vibe. Not the place to go to impress your parents or your boss, but its a favorite place for friends on the weekend.
St. Francis Fountain is a great place to go for breakfast or brunch. Be sure to get there early to avoid wait times - you can usually get seated immediately if you get there before 10 on weekends, but if youre much late you may end up having to wait a bit.Its worth it for the great food, retro decor and diner feel. They have great milkshakes and a collection of vegan, vegetarian, and omnivore-friendly food, all of which are greasy, tasty, and amazing. Definitely worth it to check out!
I love it here! The original decor is adorable, the menu is diverse but most of all the staff are so lovely. I like that I feel welcomed here and I feel comfortable eating alone as I often do. Im a lifelong vegetarian so I appreciate the options here. Its still a greasy spoon so vegan or not I do not feel healthy eating here. Pretty much everything I eat here is overly salty but still its a comfort food thing. The banana malts are amazing too with a real banana in them. But I never ever have room for one!
By far one of my favorite breakfast places to visit in San Francisco for over 18 years. Never disappointed by the service or food. Thank you so much and see you next visit.
Staff was friendly & helpful. I had the vegan pancakes, they were very tasty. I would most definitely go back.
Had a griddle combo: 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and my choice of spuds (potatos) and a vanilla milkshake. Everything was delicious and the service was good. I love the old school diner feel. The booths are super cozy too.
Incredible breakfast spot tons of options for every type of eater. Vegan, gluten free, omnivore. Fresh baked breads, delicious pancakes, super good milkshakes and soy milkshakes, nebulous potato things! Great place
Delicious breakfast every time plus good service. Recommend the pancakes! Its a small place so be prepared to wait a few minutes during prime brunch hours.
Consistently good basic breakfast food, lots of it can be made vegetarian. Biscuits are amazing! Cheap mimosas! Outdoor seating on a nice day is a plus. This was my go-to breakfast spot when I lived in this neighborhood.
Great local spot for a diner brunch! Usually a wait, but tables turn quickly.
Food and service were excellent
The right place if you want a solid breakfast or lunch with simple options all done well.
Great, affordable food prepared very quickly. Highly recommend for quality breakfast fare.
Food is good but a little pricey
Hipster brunch at its best. The nebulous potato thing made me completely rethink food. It taught me to love potatoes in a totally new way.Dont be intimidated by the hip staff. Nothing smug about it, just the best and kindest people.
Delicious food. Affordable. Old School. Great people. I love St Francis Fountain. Ive been going several times and its always a great experience. My favorite brunch there: oj + cranberry mimosas, the tofu scramble with pesto, red peppers and feta cheese as well as the veggie mess. So happy I live close by to this gem.
Great breakfast menu, from vegan pancakes to bacon and eggs scramble. Didnt try the coffee, cuz we brought our own. Friendly staff, historical establishment in the Mission District. Wonderful murals if you take the time to walk the streets. Would definitely go back there again.
Eat. Food good. Fast. Yum.
Plenty of vegan options! It’s a cute little spot and the service is good, even when there was only one worker there. I got tofu rancheros and I thought it was fine; not the best, but not the worst. The beans needed some seasoning, but the tofu itself tasted good. I think I should’ve opted for the vegan pancakes or chorizo hash. Still, I’d recommend this place to anyone, especially vegans looking for some breakfast (we all know the struggle!).
Food was delicious and the service was fantastic. Charming little place with friendly staff.
Cute and retro. The food is nothing special, but its good. The shakes are very good. May have gotten too popular to be worth going there anymore.
Oh this place is good. Super skinny fries are good, portions are large too.
Theyre breakfast is great but the mimosas could use some alcohol.
Great vegetarian burrito for breakfast after a tough night. We arrived with 5 and waited quite some time until we were seated. More than 4 people will definitely need a wait but it was worth it! They let us get coffee while we waited ;)
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! This is the place to visit in San Fransisco for a retro and amazing breakfast, The milkshakes are something you will remember for life; thick, creamy, sweet. And the pancakes are off the scale.Recommend this place to everyone and anyone.
One of my favorite little eateries in the mission. They have nostalgic candy, church pew booths, and character for days. The food is always great and fast.
Great old school diner with a good variety of menu options, including vegan options. I tried the vegan pancakes with banana and walnuts, they were great! Service was good too, will be back!
Old-fashioned soda shop with solid diner-style food and comfortable booths. Im a huge fan of the egg scramble. Huge portions, expect to easily have enough food to enjoy a second meal later. There was a long wait to be seated.
Most underrated brunch in the mission. large servings, good food, reasonably priced. usually don’t have to wait for a table. get a scramble or omelet!
