Awesome nursery with pretty much anything you could be looking for. There are a bunch of sections including trees, flowers, succulents, herbs, seeds, and pottery. There are a ton of different fertilizers and soils for sale. Prices are competitive. The best time to shop is Thursday or Friday before the weekend crowd snags most of the new inventory.
Only reason I am not giving 5 stars is for pricing. Definitely a price premium of 10-15% over the major garden centers (especially given the relative small size of the plants), but the variety and health of them can’t be beat. The nursery itself is beautifully laid out and landscaped that just visiting it, is in itself a good time.
I called ahead, looking for a specific house plant. I was told they had lots. I did not have a lot of time when I stopped by and it was close to their closing, so I asked one of the two employees sitting up front where I might find these plants. I explained I had never been there before. Mind you, there were no other customers in the vicinity and they were just sitting there chatting... not sure why she did not just volunteer to show me where they were instead of giving me meaningless detailed directions. Needless to say, we could not find them and had to ask another employee. With his help, we found the plants. And lots was four very sad looking examples, so we left. We decided to try Home Depot, where we were surprised to find several much bigger, fresh and beautiful examples. While I love to support local businesses, I doubt we will be back.
They have a huge selection of plants.I have been here 3 times & to be candid, the checkout is always terrible. The woman at the outdoor checkout needs to get off her phone, she was more interested in watching her videos than counting the plants at checkout! A HUGE THUMBS DOWN FOR HER.5 stars to the only helpful person here, I forgot to catch his name. He was a Hispanic man, very nice!
Seriously the best nursery!!! Friendly staff. Healthy, beautiful plants. Great prices! So many lovely options of wonderful plants to take home! Easy, meandering layout, excellent health protocols and an outside check out for purchases! I have been back several times and highly recommend Rainbow Gardens!
Visited today, and while the plants arent yet at their best because were in winter, it was still a lovely experience! Spoke to a gentleman up front who took plenty of time to discuss with me a moss terrarium I am working on. He was so friendly, knowledgable and polite! I took his advice and got a peperomia for my terrarium and its beautiful! Lots of lovely merchandise in the store and an amazing selection of herbs and succulents. The best part is probably the shop cat, though! We got to pet him while I spoke with the employee who helped. 10/10 will be returning! 🌱🌼😊🐈
Im a fan of this place because of its community that it’s built up here in San Antonio. This place is very active online as well and is very engaging. It’s more than just a retail store, its a YouTube channel, an Instagram and Facebook account, and an informative website. There is a large variety of plants, and I appreciate that they’re all labeled. Many have descriptions of the plant and include information such as being deer resistant or being xeriscape plants.
This is the best garden center in SA. Excellent selection, healthy plants, good selection of organic products including soil and compost, and very reasonable pricing. Prices on vegetables are significantly lower than what you find at Lowes
Good variety of veggies, usually have some Tx A&M recommended. Nice place, lots of plants and pots and stuff.
Loved it. Lots of garden supplies. Awesome succulents. 2 types of perlite
Great nursery.Found the orange/yellow Esperanza we wanted. Great advice from their horticulturist too.
Nice garden center. I think the outdoor decorations are overpriced. They do have a wide selection. The inside store has an old fashion feel. Much nicer than the big box stores.
I love this store. The employees and staff will do anything to help. I love to just walk around and get ideas. I used to go to Milberger but their prices and nonchalant attitude drove me away.
One of my favorite nursery. They give bonus bucks in summer and August you can use them for discounts.
Customer service needs so much improvement. Sales clerks standing around using cell phones, walking around never once asking can I help you, nose up in the air. Management/owners needs to do better at hiring people who want to help & enjoy their job not just earn a paycheck.
Today was not my first time at this plant nursery. There is a great variety to choose from, including house plants, and some variety in the size needed. I was helped personally by a sales associate who showed me a variety of options and reviewed the care that plant needed. Will be back again!
Love this place. Wide variety of perennials and still a few veggies even this late. Plants are healthy and staff are helpful.
Ordinarily, you guys have the best quality plants at a reasonable price. You finally have Madagascar Palm cactus, but OUTRAGEOUSLY OVERPRICED! Seriously, youre passing off a small size for the absurd price of $23.99!! I can see $10 at best. I paid 16.99 a year ago for a 10 potted one.
Huge place, lots of plants to choose from. If you have sensitive skin put on bug spray before you go. Bring hat as well, it will be hot going around .
Convenient location near Stone Oak area. Great variety of plants in stock. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. My usual place to get plants. Also you can get free shipping to store when you shop for plants online from Monrovia.
Rainbow Gardens is chock full of healthy, interesting plants. There is even a farmer sitting in the parking lot selling fresh Fredericksburg peaches!
Lots of healthy and hardy plants in various sizes to fit any budget. If you have any gardening questions/concerns the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.
Great selection of plants, vegetables, and flowers. Found Fax Farm Ocean Forest overpriced, by two-dollars. Found it for 18.00 dollars at Walmart of all places. Overall great experience when I could find someone knowledgeable about gardening. Impressive when an individual couldnt answer a question, they reached out to an associate and found the answer. Thank you, Rainbow Gardens.
Everyone is so nice and they really know what they are talking about. The variety is AMAZING!!! Not to mention its a very calming, but exciting place. What really stood out to me, was the kindness of the employees. I will always recommend going here!
I 💘 love 💘 The Rainbow 🌈 Gardens!Their FREE Saturday educational seminars are GREAT!!Their staff is EXCEPTIONAL!!Theyll walk with you and help you pick out EXACTLY what youre trying to describe!! 😍How to kill specific weeds and bugs ...How to grow just about anything successfully!!The garden bucks are super! Now, of I can just remember to actually USE THEM IN AUGUST!! 😂😂I also love that I can walk in with a random plant pic ... Not only do they knew what it IS 😍 they have it in stock!!Chinese parasol tree!
I always find everything I need at Rainbow Garden
Love this place. People are so nice so laid-back oh, you can get anything almost that youre looking for in plants. Been coming here for a long time and I hope they stay open for a long time cuz I love it.
I loved it! Taylor is your Go to Dr Botany. I am glad this nursery exists because I was able to find the right soil for my plants and trees. Great customer service from the associates. Theres parking spaces for the disabled. Enforcement of wearing face mask, No mask no service!
The best! Packed on the last coupon day!
This place is huge and has almost every plant imaginable! Got some bluebonnets, purslane, watermelon, and hot peppers. Great place lots of variety. Will definitely come back.
Very crowded. Needs a bigger parking lot. But it is mothers day weekend. Other than that it was all good.
Rainbow gardens has a great selection of healthy plants, and everything you need for your garden or landscaping project. friendly staff and good prices make this nursery a solid five stars
Theres so much to look at here, it doesnt seem big from the front but it is huge! My boyfriend and I always find great deals, the best soil, beautiful flowers and the cashiers are friendly!
I found the parking lot to be tight and for some reason they had cones blocking off half of it. Staff was not easy to find/helpful, combined with a confusing layout. There weren’t many signs (that I could find) categorizing the different types of plants, so I wandered around a lot and then couldn’t find the checkout. The plants seem to be healthy enough, but I would prefer other nurseries over this one.
Rainbow Gardens always has a great selection of plants trees and shrubs. Beautiful flowers.
Always a great selection of plants. Its retail pricing.
Good place get all your gardening stuff
10 employees walked right by. No hello no good morning no can I help you. Pretty rude.
2nd VisitWill not be going back. Soil was moldy.Downgrading review to 2 stars.Great selection of plants and pots, but supplies were old. (View photo of moldy potting soil). Waste of money.1stExcellent assortment of plants and pots. They had plants that Home Depot did not have. The guys working throughout the nursery were knowledgeable and very helpful. Their prices are more on the expensive side. I purchased x2 snake plants ($19.99 each), a small bag of soil ($15.99), and x1 ceramic pot (39.99) for a total of $103.88 (including tax). You are better off going to home depot or Lowes or HEB for potting soil. They do not offer a military discount. The young lady checking us out (outside) was quite rude. She was very surly and was not pleasant to interact with.
They have a great selection of plants and soil to choose from and they have very helpful staff the only thing would be the line to checkout is always kinda long during the spring and summer but they are still awesome..
First time here and my wife loved it was able to snag a couple of things.
I found some marigolds to replace some plants. They didnt have a lot of plants to pick from for sunny spots that would have worked.
Love this plant nursery. Friendly staff. Large paved parking lot. Quality plants. Knowledgeable employees to answer questions.
Great nursery for a wide variety of plants and trees. This place has everything including soil and exotics.
Excellent service, it was great having expert help from Monica, Marshall and Brandon! They have done a great job with Covid protocols, thanks for enforcing masks and distancing!
Merchandise wise, there’s a great selection of plants. As for customer service, they could use some help in that department.
Really my favorite gardening place still. They are always nice and, while it can be hard to find an expert to ask questions, its well worth the search. Im also really grateful for the blog, free gardening classes, and online plant database. They really give you so much support for gardening in a somewhat harsh environment. Not only that but they also support eco friendly practices that make sense. 💜
Nice big selection, healthy plants and live a long time with care. Helpful friendly staff and ample parking.
Its All right not much in the way of hydroponics and things like that. But good selection of plants and gardening items.
Very friendly and helpful staff yesterday.
Wow, this place is amazing, had to stop and get 3 gift cards for friends birthdays 🎂 😀 ❤
Lots of selection. We arrived 20 minutes before closing which is definitely not enough time to walk through the whole place.
Unrivaled selection of healthy plants. Easy to navigate, with helpful signs and information posted throughout.
When we PCSed to San Antonio 2 years ago this quickly became my favorite nursery. Unfortunately, I will never be going back again due to their hateful attitude towards those with special needs, PTSD, health issues, etc who cannot wear masks. When you pull up, there are several giant spray painted signs that read PRIVATE PROPERTY! IF YOU ARE NOT WEARING A MASK, YOU ARE TRESPASSING! . Other nurseries around town encourage you to wait in your car and call for curbside if you cant mask up but this place screams loud and clear that they might call the cops on you. My children are asking why their special needs friends are banned from going plant shopping outside. This is the new world we live in and I am so disappointed to see such hate towards already vulnerable people rather than support and encouragement. Ill be taking my business to nurseries that deserve it.
Great selection although we couldnt find what we wanted due mostly to large crowds most likely replacing their plants like us, this recent freeze did us in. Prices are better than some other locations.
Today was my first time visiting, I liked their selection: I spent $240 and easily could have spent more! Nobody was the remotest bit friendly except the guy who carried out my soil.
I spoke to Taylor over the phone before going to Rainbow Gardens. After I explained to him what my problem was he informed me of what I needed to bring to him so that he could help me fix the problem that I was having in my St. Augustine grass. Taylor throughly looked at the samples of my lawn that I brought to him at his request (Im glad he did because all I intended on bringing was pictures) and swiftly provided me with a number of solutions that I would not have thought of. He truly cared about my problem and offered a solution for me that I believe will work. He also gave me some pointers that I wouldnt have done if he didnt point them out to me. The lady at the front counter (I didnt get her name) was super polite and more than willing to help me. Theyve earned a customer for life with me. Thank you for the help. Keep up the good work!!!!**Update**(approximately 1.5 weeks later)Taylor correctly identified a problem in my yard and suggest a fungicide that worked great. He also informed me that I should add some liquid iron to the yard. I did exactly what he said and the results are amazing. Again, thank you Taylor and thank you Rainbow Garden for having such a knowledgeable staff. The lawn is still recovering but is looking much better.
Went to Rainbows Garden to get some ideas on landscape. Both layout and diversity. I had 3 employees as well as the owner stop to offer indepth extensive help with little prompting on my part. While I Went the this time in search for solutions I left with a lot of stuff that wasnt expected at that point. Not because I wasnt ready but because I wasnt sure. They took care of that. Been back a dozen more times and each time Im welcomed and asked if I need assistance. Couple of those times I was either lost in thought or just in a mood and not really wanting indepth discussion they seemed perfectly happy moving along. Feels like they are happy if we are happy. Love this place!
Excellent in just about every way. Love the feel of the place and the staff are just great! I could spend hours here just soaking it all up. Great prices, loads of parking
Huge selection of really healthy plants with new additions being added daily. Friendly and helpful wait staff to answer any questions you may have and provide useful information on helping your selections to thrive.
Great selection of trees, shrubs, flowers, and all things garden! Will be returning soon for more!
The associates there are very helpful.
Still has an aggressive mask policy for an outside place. No reason to give them more money.
Aisles are too small and other people are always blocking them. Would be great if you werent constantly fighting to get through
We have always loved this place since the first visit. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff, great selection, and wonderful atmosphere - sometimes we just come to wonder around and look at things. They also have very informative classes, and a periodic kids craft class that my kids (6, 9, & 12) really love!
Always a fun place to visit with a variety of healthy everything plants. One of my favorite stops for garden herbs and vegetables.
It is great here..all kinds of good plants soil and gardening stuff. It doesnt get better than this
So many choices and staff is very helpful.
Very disappointed that they had no orange trees but overall great customer service. They did inform me that orange trees were decimated from the freezing weather in February and didnt not know when they would get any.
Large variety and great prices! My favorite plant place to spend all my money😂💖
Muy bueno. The workers are trabajo harder than my abuela when she crossed the rio grande with my el guapo self and my hermanos strapped to her back while el policia tried to track us
Tomatoes, tomatoes, tomatoes! Has a great variety of heirloom and unique varieties each Spring.
Love this nursery!! The employees are so friendly and knowledgeable!!
Tons of beautiful, healthy plants. The only negative is trying to locate things or find someone who works there.
I love this place! They have a fabulous selection. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and always extremely helpful. This is the place to go for all of your gardening and household plant needs!
Always friendly & experiencec w anything I ask..thank you
No employees around to help with questions and no maps to show where plants are at. Also they had signs saying if you are not wearing a mask you are trespassing yet the ladies at the register were not even wear their masks correctly.
I loved this place! Plants are beautiful and there are so many different kind of plants! And the staff was very helpful. I only wish yhrtr were more carnivorous plants.
They have trumpet and nepenthes picture plants. The small ones start at 10$
Great Selection of plants. Will Recommend to all Plant people!
I must share, the staff is pleasant. The Atmosphere as well.As a rent to own customer, my credit is shot due to bankruptcy, its great to be trusted, and be able to make affordable payments. The quality of the trampoline I brought is an outstanding quality. The installation was amazing.I could only praise my entire experience w/Rainbow Gardens.I will continue to do business with them in the future.
They seem to have different varieties than the other location, and so many unique plants I hadnt seen before today! Wonderful selection!
Love both of these locations. ❤💛💙
Love this nursery! Their prices and varieties of plants are great! I love that they offer summer rainbow bucks that you can redeem in August😊
