On my second visit to this business the owner was very grumpy. I was trying to buy a head kit to replace the bearings for the front wheel steering and he seemed annoyed. But he then offered to show me something so I followed him into the disorganized chaos of bikes in there. I thought he was actually going to offer a solution at that point but he then turned and pushed me and started yelling something about not returning. In short, not well stocked, not helpful, not worth your time and you might get assaulted. Sounds crazy but its true.
Watch out for this place. My bike needed a tuneup because the chain kept messing up. After “fixing” the bike, I found out they had messed up my right handle brake. I kept having them adjust it and testing it out in the parking lot, and it was still messed up. Whenever I asked them to adjust the break, they made me feel as if I was crazy for thinking anything was wrong. After at least 10 tries, it finally felt pretty good (but not as good as it did before, I was just settling for a worse brake) so we went home. We’d wasted so much time there because they couldn’t make the break work right. However, I used the bike today to find out the break was broken again, and it doesn’t fully respond. It’s dangerous to ride, and it was supposed to be fixed after we left. This is unacceptable, and should never have happened. That’s over $80 dollars thrown away, and I’m left with a worse bike than before. The only thing they did good was clean the bike and install an adjustable mechanism for raising and lowering the handlebars. We’re going to try to get at least a partial refund.EDIT: The adjustable handlebar mechanism broke while I was riding the bike, and I almost crashed at a high speed because I couldn’t control the bike or brake. I injured my leg and it was bleeding as I walked my nonfunctional bike to my car. We went in to ask for a refund, but he refused to give one. He said he hadn’t done anything wrong, and it was my fault for not knowing how to ride a bike (I only rode it on flat roads and sidewalks.) Avoid this place, they will only make your bike worse and not offer any refunds.
Cool old school shop. My Bianchi got new cranks. They look great. Thanks guys. !
Wanted to convert my gear bike into a single speed if that was possible, they said it was. In the end I paid $170 for a new chain
I called for a pair of particular tire and size. I was told they have it. I called twice to make sure they have the tires because I have a very far drive. I get here and he tries to sell me a different tire and the ones I called for he doesn’t even have the size, he was insisting on selling me some other tires he has over stock on.I didn’t make the far drive for other tires that I was not looking for. I let him know that I did a long drive to come buy these tires and he lied to me just to get me over here and sell me what ever he thought he could sell me. As I’m leaving the store I hear his other partner laugh.I guess these are a pair of con artist and pushers for sales.
Once again these guy got me back on the road again. 😃 they moved locations but no worries they still do incredible work. I received my bike back in a timely manner. Thank you for being a strong business in this pandemic we now struggle with. These guys are aces in my book. I highly recommend them.
The bestGreat atention
Had the parts i was looking for and got some very good advice from a cery knowledgeable person.
Purchased a Groupon for a mid level tune-up, received a call saying it would be ready at 5:00 pm. We arrived at the shop on time and the bike was not ready. They told us the brake pads needed to be replaced and they could do it right there for $20 total since the bike was already taken apart and they wouldnt charge for labor. They finished and we went to check out and the total came out to an additional $40 because they ended up charging us for labor and and something extra that I still dont know what they charged us for. We havent even tested out the bike yet, but we will not be returning to an unhonest business.
Staff was really nice. Took care of my brake adjustment and my bike rides smoothly now.
Bought a groupon for a tune up and it was a waste of money. We went to get the tune up only to be told the bike had to be completely disassembled and parts needed to be replaced. This is a brand new bike. We came looking for help with a gear and instead we’re getting up charged for services we do not need! Stay away from here they’re out to get as much money as they can and not looking to help their customers.
Great shop 👍 up all way round been riding recreational long while. This shop by far best service friendly and helpful on getting the parts your bike needs. So Id say its worth 5 gold stars.
Horrible customer service. Dont go there.
JR did a major tune-up and rear hub rebuild on my 30 year old Schwinn. They were in the process of moving to their new location so things were in disarray, but he was able to get the job done on time and I am very happy with their work. Nice folks. I will recommend to my friends.
Needed to get my front forks replaced and J.R. was a great help.
JR took the time to educate me about my bike, even though they were super busy. They definitely went the extra mile, were very friendly, and I highly recommend this shop.
I took a 10 year old road bike over here and it was cleaned and in mint condition within 4 days. Hes also one of the few bike shops currently working on department store bikes.
Ive known Luis since he worked at Bike World on Broadway in the early 90s. I have followed him to his shops on West Avenue and now on Blanco. His customer service is first class and unmatched. His knowledge along with his attention to detail of every bike Ive taken to him will keep me coming back.
The absolutely worst place I have ever bought my bike. I asked them to put on an internal hub. I showed them my hub, and asked them Can you do it?. They said yes. Boy, were they mistaken. They called me in and told me my bike was ready. I go in, and its not ready. Four weeks later, I decided to call them. They finally get their act together (so I thought) and told me to pick up my bike the next day. I rode it around the back and it seemed alright. When I got it home and rode it more, the shifter would only shift into three of the eight gears. The pedals would feel like they were slipping after I shifted. I take it back, they tell me its alright. These clowns managed to throw out my perfectly good rear tire in the process. They threw out my handlebar plastic end piece. They threw out my rear reflector. They screwed up almost as much as you could possibly screw up. They even forgot to tighten my rear brakes. I had to take it to another shop so they could fix my hub so it would shift properly. I was out all $120 to these people. They refused to give any of my money back. They did replace me thrown out rear tire with a miss-sized replacement (35c vs. 32c front). Dont ever take your bike here for service, you wont get any.
I bought my first mountain bike here and, by far, Im not disappointed at all. I talked to Luis Whittman at Bike City and he recommended the right bike for the money I wanted to spend. I still did my research and shopped around for several weeks and ended up right back where I started... at Bike City. These guys know all about bikes, (for theyre riders themselves) honest, straight forward and will fit you with the best bike for your acquired needs and your budget.
Luis Wittman and Amy Flores were great! Walked in almost at closing, they had no problem staying and helping me pick out the right bike (which is perfect, by the way!) and installing my rack on the car. Definitely working at least 30 minutes after closing time and were perfectly kind and happy about it. Also, the bike and rack were less expensive there, so I got a deal in addition to the great service!
I recently had to tune up my wife’s Allez, after almost a year and a half before being tuned up and parts were a couple years old, it was time.I got everything from bar tape, to gear/brake cable and housing, I also got a white and red housing to make it a little more custom looking, he replaced some outdated parts in my front brake systems, installed brand new pedals, a chain with brand new road tires and tubes. To top it all off it was returned with a badass polish! Usually something I do myself, but glad to see someone else do it because I’ve been busy.Guys and girls if you aren’t aware, these guys have moved recently, so imagine trying to move and service all of the bikes at the same time. You’re dealing with a man who has been doing this for 53 years, he knows his stuff!THANK YOU GUYS!
I have a wheelchair with a very unique tire. I tried 5 different places. This is the first place that had what I needed. Accommodating and quick. Will definitely be a customer for future purchases.
Please be very careful if you decide to take your bike or your love ones to this place. He is very dishonest person. He say one price and when you go to pick your bike up, the total became to be very high; besides, they dont make sure the bike is totally ready and safe to ride. My bikes handle bars came off the day after I picked it up from there, while I was riding. Also, I received my bike back with the seat torn.
Luis and RJ are very knowledgeable and provide well-priced, expedient service. I will definitely be back to tuneup before Bike MS!
This is an great local bike shop. Everyone is super helpful and friendly and they are really speedy. Took my bike in for a major tune up on a Monday morning and got a call back on Tuesday afternoon that my bike was ready when other bike shops gave me a week turn around. Thanks Bike City my bike is running smooth!!
This is by far, the WORST experience Ive had with a bike shop in San Antonio. My boyfriend and I purchased tune ups for our bikes from groupon. My boyfriend took his bike in the day before I took in mine. They called and said his was ready. He had just purchased the bike from Target and the owner of the bike shop noticed there was a broken screw in the tire but didnt repair it. That was my boyfriends experience. I come in with my bike the day hes there to pick his up. As I walk my bike up to the owner I smile and said, Hey there, hows it going? The guy snivels a bit and says (about my bike) well, that bike is alright I guess, I mean its better than a Huffy. and he starts to laugh. My issue is this...I just walked into your establishment and said hello hows it going and before greeting me, the owner chose to insult my bike instead. I have a decent Schwinn. I paid about $350 for it. At the time, I was 100lbs heavier and needed something that worked with my weight and something I could afford. This guy doesnt know me, or know my situation. I came to this shop for help in tuning up my bike and cleaning it. I also needed new brake pads and I needed a spoke put in. Right after we bring the bikes home, my boyfriend had a seizure and fractured his back. Not even two weeks after that happened he broke his leg so we have not had a chance to ride our bikes yet together. I went to take my bike out this past week and discovered that I had paid these guys an additional $20 to replace my spoke. It was actually just tucked inside another spoke and not replaced at all. I also didnt get a run down of services performed like my boyfriend did. Please dont waste your time by taking your bike here. You wont get what you pay for!!!
He was very helpful efficient and did a dam good job, I have a crazy cart for my son hes gonna fix great experience
This is my LBS (local bike shop) and Ive gone twice. First time to buy brakes for my motorized bike and my bike was obviously unwelcome. Didnt really care about that.Second time I went for a nine speed derailleur they sold me an eight speed one. I didnt realize till after I put it on and the high limit screw only went to eight. They are the closest shop and I dont mind paying a premium to get a part that same day and support bike shops.....but Im done with these guys
Parts Available here in Town.
Great customer service by JR
BUYER BEWARE:purchased a $40 Groupon for Major tune up on my bike, ended up costing me an additional $97 to get my bike back. For a “tune up” ???? Owner is deceitful and sneaky when giving the original quotes and did not even complete the job. My bike was given back to me half cleaned and Im almost positive my rubber handle covers were switched out and replaced with decrepit versions of the same. My bike had been sitting in storage for over year and had been barely used, it was practically new when I sent it to be cleaned and tuned up. This was a TOTAL Rip off. AND the Groupon is a SCAM. Dont fall for it. I shouldve gone back to (BIKE WORLD), where I had purchased the bike and When I called after being fleeced to verify how much it would cost for THEM to do a professional tuneup, it literally wouldve cost me $50 less. I would suggest going to (BIKE WORLD)off of Broadway in Alamo Heights rather than giving your money to this Guy and his Groupon scam. The guys over at (BIKE WORLD), are professional and honest. This guy IS NOT.
I called and asked about possibly having an electric motor installed in the wheel of my bike with a conversation kit I asked to make sure he could install it and help me find out what kind. He told me to bring it in so I did and when I got there he said he couldnt help me purchase one or even attempt to look up the kit. I think they could have at least told me what I needed to know about the bike so I could find the right kit then install it for me like he wanted to.
Great staff very knowledgeable and friendly! Ive been to many bike shops in San Antonio and Bike City was the most friendly, most helpful and most experience compare to other shops.
I took my sons razor dirtbike since he is listed as the Only razor service center. The old man had my bike almost 2 weeks and everytime i called he said the technician is not in. I finally said im going to get my bike the next day. He was so rude and i said i wasnt happy with his service and he did give me a refund since he did charge me a service fee and a battery. I told him that he shouldnt be listed as a service center when he didnt service my bike He said i been in business 15 yrs and you one customer complains no one will believe me. I said i was gonna call razor and he said go ahead they wont believe you and good luck finding someone to fix my bike since he is the only one listed. I told him you never called me i had to call you he said why should I the bike is not fixed.i said its called customer service. He said he went looking for the technician at a corner wth hes not even reliable. After arguing with the owner i left unhappy and i called razor and thy werent happy he didnt fix the bike. Thanks to razor technician Larry they sent me What i needed and made it right and my boy is happy riding his bike.
Dropped off 2 bikes for tuneups on mon and told pu fri..no not ready..return mon NO..wed yes will not return...too slow
After being a customer for 5-6 YEARS and buying a few bikes and referring. I barely was informed after buying a groupon coupon for a full bike tune up that I had 50% off automatically buying the bike from them. I did show the employee that received my bike I had the groupon, he didn’t write it down on the paper etc etc, the employee that was cashing me out when picking up my bike was going to charge me the full price, until I showed him the groupon I brought, he stated I receive half off regardless, (That would have been nice to know from the beginning instead of seeing full price at first) that’s the first issue,Second, i purchased a new tire for my back wheel, (keep in mind, I left them with my bike not flat) I picked up my bike as soon as they got finished, when I got home the tire was flat. After calling, I was told I was going to have to pay for a tube, that the tube probably already had a hole. ( around that not word for word) from a customer point of view, I feel they should have checked the tubes after buying a new tire and a full tune up? The tube cost wasn’t the problem, the problem was the over all experience. I suggest not going if you want great customer service.
The staff is knowledgable and very helpful, and I appreciated their down-to-earth, genuine attitude. I also love my lifetime free tune-ups after I bought my bike there. This is the place to go and Ive become a believer in Jamis bicycles, which they carry.
The worst customer service from the owner. We had a problem with a repair and the owner did absolutely nothing to resolve the issue. I tried to offer resolutions and he would not budge at all. Then he stormed away saying he had never experienced anything like this in 43 years! Seriously, you have never made a mistake and had the customer give you a chance to rectify the issue in a kind and mature manor? We ended up getting our bike back in pieces and took it to another shop that understands how to treat customers. Worst part....the other shop told us we only needed HALF of what this man had sold us and we were willing to pay! SMH....Horrible...
Bike City sucks. The people who work here are practically incompetent when it comes to repairing bicycles. Theyre not even bikers themselves. Never trust a bicycle repair man who doesnt ride a bike to work. I brought my bike in for an overhaul and they completely effed it up. After waiting for well over a week to have my bike returned to me, I had to bring it back the very next day due to the fact that is was not ride-able. Apparently they did not install the tube correctly. Nor did they true the rear wheel that they had replaced. Then, after they supposedly fixed what they had messed up in the first place, my bike got a flat tired due to their carelessness in replacing the tube. The hole in the tube was on the inside, against the wheel, not the outside. So it was obviously their fault for it being there. It was not a puncture hole from running over anything, I hadnt even ridden it yet. Needless to say, I was very frustrated after having to deal with these jokers. After calling them up and telling them about the flat, they said they didnt warranty bicycle tubes! Can you believe that? They were at fault! Again! Fortunately, the guy over at Bike World fixed the mess these guys made of my bike for free. Thats right. For free. BEWARE! DO NOT TAKE YOUR BIKE FOR REPAIRS TO BIKE CITY!!! THIS PLACE SHOULD NOT BE IN BUSINESS! DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. Take it to Bike World where they actually care about bikes. And yes, the people at Bike World are bikers. So you can trust them. Stay away from Bike City. Worst bike shop ever.
I took my bike to bike city in june 2017. The only interaction i had with anyone here was with the white guy that wears colorful socks(i dont know his name). He was also the one that repaired my bike. After trying to sell me unnecessary items for my bike, i finally agreed to let him repair my brake cables, which according to him were not allowing my bike to brake correctly, due to the most minimal rust, that could probabaly be cleaned off with a paper towel. Once he took my order he kept mispronouncing my name, and even tried telling ME how MY NAME is supposed to be pronounced according to him. I went to pick up my bike a week after dropping it off, only to get the news that he wasnt able to fix the issue (which never really was an issue), he said was being caused by the rusty cable. Not only was the issue not fixed but now it was worse, he left the cable with like 1.5 inches of play, and still charged me 15 dollars, 5 for the cable and 9 for the labor (+tax). He now tried to say it was a spring issue, just like he first said it was a rust issue. I got home and fixed the issue myself by simply loosening the tensioner screw and adjusting the cable. This honestly took me 2 minutes total. I havent gone back to bike city to complain in person because I havent had time, but i will be going back as soon as I get a chance. I will edit this review after, if anything posotove comes out of their part.
Friendly staff, helped me find a right bike to fit me, very knowledgeable and great prices
Spent 5grand on a bike here and was treated like a leper. Customer service is terrible. Wrenching isnt much better. Took my bike in for service quoted one price was called and said it would be double.Even sent a friend and he bought a bike and still treated this way.Do not buy anything from here!
Had a great experience there. They know about bikes there. I felt welcome by everyone in the store....
Great attention to detail at a reasonable price
Went by yesterday and the guy was very ugly and rude and didnt want to help or answer my question I asked him all he wanted was to sell me something and if I didnt want to buy anything he couldnt help me out all I wanted or needed is my tire fixed and he was so rude and told me he dont fix bikes or anything like that, he couldnt even refer me anybody or anyone that could help me or answer my question about how can I fix my tire or what I need to do to fix my tire . so Id never go there again or refer any body to go there they got no good customer service
Very nice help, open sunday, big plus
Charged double average retail price for small parts eg. Shift and brake cables $5.99 each. Most shops charge about $3.00 for a bulk cable.
0 stars. Worst shop in San Antonio.
Great customer service. JR helped me out a lot and answered any questions I had being Im a novice in the bike game. Definitely recommended.
I did not like!!!!
