Its so much smaller than their previous location, but still has friendly and helpful staff.
Had such a wonderful experience last week (late April). My wife and I went with a particular mission: have someone pick a cookbook and choose a recipe from that book for us to make on a date. We wandered to the cookbooks, and a young woman asked how she could help. We gave her our story, and she picked a perfect book (Cooking for 2 from Americas Test Kitchen) and randomly picked a wonderful recipe. She had a good spirit and could easily get us what we needed. Would definitely recommend!
They moved locations probably 5 min closer to my house (Hell Yeah) staff is really nice very helpful, food is great, what else can I say except this is a great place to go!!!
Do not even think about sitting and browsing here. No chairs in the main store at all and the cafe is clearly designed to be uncomfortable for staying more than 10 minutes. Other subtle design choices, like bright downward lighting, loud music, and lack of quiet nooks scream buy your merch and get out. There are also a grand total of two handicap parking spaces for the bookstore and surrounding businesses. Without the cozy atmosphere I dont really see the point of coming in instead of buying books cheaper online. Such a pity.
A very confusing layout of recent fiction. A set of shelves for fiction, another different place for new fiction, and tables with historical fiction. Never found the book I wanted so ordered it on Amazon.
While the store is small in stature the collection of books to choose from is anything but. The staff is nice, the store is clean, and I thoroughly enjoyed looking for titles that interested me.
Very organized store, able to find what I want without needing to ask
Other Barnes &Noble stores have downsized. I pray this one will not! I live in Rockville and go to Frederick for this store. ❤
I enjoyed my visit to Barnes and Noble! They practically have everything you can want in one place. The book selection is plentiful. I went to purchase books on business and left with so much more. I ended up getting the B&N card to save 20% on my purchase. I found books for writing my new fiction novel and books on creating a business plan as well as books on financial management. I also found journals and a baby shower card. The bookstore offers free WiFi and plenty of quiet places to sit and read. You can try out the book before purchasing. The workers are very helpful and knowledgeable about the materials. Overall its a wonderful experience alone or with children. I find the bookstore to be a magical place.
It is not as big as the former location, but still is nice and well stocked. We miss the one in downtown Bethesda
Quiet, well stocked store. Courteous staff.
Always loved BN, just to hang out and be surrounded by books. Or mainly to eat sugar cookies from the cafe, but you know, bonus!
The new Barnes & Noble is small, but packs a punch. If you are looking for the massive inventory that the previous location had, youre going to be disappointed. However, still a great place for buying gift books and picking up magazines. Yes, I still read magazines...
Barnes and noble is beautiful. I went to to support the book and mortar store and had a pleasant experience. Staff was helpful. There was a small toy section and I picked up a baby book, in addition to my parenting book. I highly recommend visiting the new location.
I loved this store when it was in its old location. The new location is very opened and seems like the company just jammed books along the walls and set up a few displays. I also noticed they no longer have their customer service desk and no longer have individual employees assigned to the different categories. It was confusing to navigate and there were no employees around to help even direct you in the right direction. The best way, in my opinion, would be to order online and pick up at the store.
This is a new location on Rockville Pike. It is smaller than the former location at Montrose Crossing, but feels very fresh and contemporary. The layout is a bit different than other B&N stores in the area, but it is easy to navigate. Each time we have visited, the staff was friendly and very helpful. There is also a small but pleasant Cafe. There is a nice book shop feel about the place that is some times missing in the bigger stores.
Well.It was nice to visit that place like many other places. Great services, nice hospitalityjust great. I recommend to travelers to visitit. I like to cooperate with our Communities
This is an awesome place to buy manga! it a nice store and i love everything about it.
Love the new location, but not as much as the one on Bethesda; so much memories, I miss it a lot.
It was easy to find. A bit smaller than the previous location but I found everything I wanted.
Collection was sort of good but didnt find a lot of series which had a few books from the middle.
Very well organized and a pleasure to shop in this great store. Wonderful assortment of books.
Always a great afternoon/evening outing. First we explore Barnes & Noble, and theres lots to explore. There are plenty of sit down areas and tables for customer comfort. Their selection is extensive and organized. A fantastic travel section, plenty of fine coffee table books, maps, and gobs of non-fiction inhabit the first floor, while fiction and an even better selection of non-fiction are upstairs. I can spend an hour browsing the magazines and periodicals, which are conveniently located near the adjoining Starbucks, which is how we wind up the visit - a stack of magazines, a couple books, and Starbucks coffee to sip while enjoying our purchases.
Very thorough selection.
Great store. Helpful staff always willing to search and to place orders. Also lots of interesting gifts, cards, bargain books - and excellent selection of magazines, incl plant-based/vegan. An oasis in crazy-busy world outside.
Unhappy to say that Ive been in airport bookstores that feel more welcoming than this new location. Everything felt very cosmetic, like I was perusing through Targets selction rather than B&N. Its already a risk to physically go to the store but this vibe change has made the choice to shop online instead an easy one. Unfortunately now, B&N will have to contend with other cheaper online sellers whove put no stock into an irl store. Cute lights, though.
I loved this place. It always was a childhood dream and always will be. I love the staff they were friendly and helpful. There are so many good books to choose from and I hope Ill can go there again when it reopens
Very nice place to go and relax.
This store recently moved from its original Montrose Crossing spot to a much smaller location in Congressional Plaza. In addition to losing square footage in the move, the layout was redesigned to a more open, airy look. On the surface, the look isnt awful - reminiscent of the Container Store next door, or perhaps Ikeas idea of a bookstore. Once you start browsing, though, you start to realize that this store carries only about 10% of the selection of the old location. For example, we were looking for some Pete the Cat books to supplement our kindergartners school readings. Though a very popular series, a staple in most childrens sections, this store only had one copy of one title - and only in hardcover. I was also looking for the new Christopher Moore novel. I couldnt find it in the Fiction section, nor did I spot it browsing New Fiction Releases (not in alphabetical order, by the way).I had seen a computer kiosk in the store, so I walked toward it to look the book up, as one was once able to. I was immediately shooed away - to be fair, that probably has to do with COVID-19 guidelines, but it was also the first assistance I had been offered. The clerk looked up the book and found it for me (hence the second star), but when I commented that it was hard to find a book in a section that isnt organized in any meaningful way, she chuckled and said something along the lines of, Yeah, new way of doing things.TL;DR - seems like carrying fewer books and making them harder to find is the exact opposite of the way one would compete with Amazon. I get that this location is trying to emulate an independent bookstore, but Ill take an actual indie over corporates idea of indie any day.
Love the staff, the location and the selection. If you want a book they don’t have in stock they order it free of charge (I’ve only had to order one).
Great place to shop for book. Store is nice and clean, people are very helpful!
Feeling disappointed. I dont like the new just buy something and leave format. My children were trying to choose books and were told to either buy them or hand them over to be disinfected. This was after 5-7 minutes of reading their selections. We bought one series book we had already been looking for and left the others.
This place is so nostalgic for me. Theres a starbucks inside which makes for a nice pick me up before studying/reading. I recommend the couches on the top floor. I just wish there were more outlets.
Typical Barnes & Noble. Great place to shop for books, calendars and other items. A very calm place to grab coffee and read.
Lots of great memories at Barnes & Noble with my daughter Mia. This was her favorite hangout. A humongous place with wall to wall reference materials and notable books. She’s a voracious reader & now an IOS Engineer for Apple. Cultivate love of reading with your young children.
I love bookstores so much, but this new location makes me sad. Its tiny and the selection is soooo much smaller. Everything feels to be in weird corners and its hard to socially distance. The staff are not so friendly. I was disappointed.
Pricey but their staff is worth it. I love the fact that I can go into nearly every department in that store, ask a question and get a human to find an accurate answer for me. I also really like their magazine selection. They have European publications and a wide variety of topics.
Theyre getting friendly again or at least Fred is
Great selection of all types of books but clearly owned by liberals.
Barnes & Nobel has got to be one of my favourite places to be... It feels like a safe haven, where I can sit in a chair, take off my shoes, and curl into a good book kinda place. Absolutely love it!
This is one of the best B&Ns in the DC metro area. A nice way to end a trek into Montgomery County or even to begin the day. The products were well organized. I also liked how the associates werent aggressively asking me if I needed help, as they do in other locations.
What a terrific place to buy coffee and scan books. Upstairs has tables and chairs all around.. a very welcoming environment to spend peaceful time. Very friendly and courteous staff. Also, usually a great line up of new authors to meet and greet.
Good selection, checkout lines usually arent too bad. There are places to sit upstairs. The and the lower level has a Starbucksand while you dont have to go outside to get from B&N to Starbucks, you need to pay for your books/magazines 1st of youll set off the scanners.
Great place to read and relax. Great and extensive selection of books for everyone, youngest to old. It is a very clean place, and friendly staff. Very nice place. There are comfy armchairs to sit, and chairs looking out into the parking lot.
Its Barnes and Noble. Always a fun place but nothing special. It is really nice that they let you sit a read.
Staff does an excellent job with keeping even the busiest areas well ordered. Very courteous when asked to assist. Checkout staff consistently exemplify the best in customer service.
Its really nice place to visit with children. Lots of things to see and spent time with good books and magazines.. There is a Marshall store near there and parking lots are big. Nice Mall area~
Its Barnes and Noble with a new twist! Loving their new layout!!
Big two story bookstore. With tables to preview books before buying/study. Has a Starbucks connected next door.
Staff willing to assist the customers. Books well organized by subject matter. Pleasant atmosphere. Planty free parking. Accessible by public transportation.
This is the best and biggest Barnes and nobles I have personally been to. I scored to excellent hard covers for $5 each
My place of choice while my wife completed some Christmas shopping. A full sized Starbucks is adjacent for a complete experience. There is a certain wow factor at first glance, while walking through that front entrance. You know that you are in a premiere book store as the full interior effect hits you.The book selection is outstanding. They are the best.
I enjoy a place you can sit and have your coffee and read a book. Staff assistance is ok but if they are busy you wont get the service you want. All in all its a nice place
Excellent and broad book inventory. Dedicated reference staff. Efficient cashiers. A dying breed. Adjoins a Starbucks conveniently.
Lovely place to shop for books, toys, stationary, nooks, and calendars. Lots of variety. Also comfy chairs to sit down and read. Very cozy. Too many bookstores have disappeared. Lets keep this one going with our patronage!
Went to story time with the kids and from the baby to the adults we were all entertained and enjoyed the story telling and choice of books. It wasnt too long and the kids got to colour in and just enjoy the book store afterwards. Plenty of parking, kind and helpful staff.
Love that there is still a book store around. The place is very easy to navigate and find what you are looking for. Everything is neat and organized. The people there are very friendly and helpful.
One of the last bookstores, its a nice enough spot to chill (if you can find a seat). This is a chain at the end of the day though, so if youve been to one before you know what youre getting. Five stars mostly because the staff here are some of the most attentive and friendly Ive encountered in a B&N.
I spent my teenage years coming to this Barnes & Noble. It has evolved a lot over the years but is still just as great a place to both get books - of course- and to relax and read or simply get a cup of coffee. The staff is as helpful as ever and the selection is great.
They have every book I have ever looked for there. All genres and categories of books have their own section, and there are also movies, music, toys, and other things to buy. The service is very good and there are multiple levels with tons of books.
Cafe is outside of the zone you can take un-purchased materials through, thus making it impossible to browse a book while having a drink. Lack of seating in the interior of this space makes this one of the less hospitable iterations of Barnes and Noble. Good selection of science literature with the exception of chem, which has two books on a good day
This location is lovely; the set up is such that you can purchase a book and find a place to read it on the site. Parking is a breeze, unless the parking lot is full. The customer service is great, plus theres a Starbucks in the location.
Great store. Convenient and good customer service. Sad it is moving to a smaller space in May.
This is by far the best bookstore in the area. They have all sorts of books that you guys should check out. Nothing is as good as the services offered by these guys. Best place ever.
Super friendly folks here. I asked for some recommendations for sci fi/fantasy, and the clerk actually explained they didnt really read that genre, but then tracked down someone who did and brought them over to me. So, I got a few recommendations without any pressure to purchase anything. As far as Im concerned, this is what a shopping experience should be like. Very well done, staff at Barnes and Noble. A huge thanks, and we will be back!
Never thought Id pine for the big box box shop. But when theyre one of the only shops left of their kind...Seriously though this location does a solid job of making a welcoming and inviting space that feels current but cozy enough to take in a few chapters. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable and actually pretty skilled at handling long queues during busy times (and I mean the holiday season).
Big bookstores are great... but hard to find these days. This is a nice place to peruse books. I havent tried the cafe, but its nice and sunny.
Always fun to visit whether looking for a specific book or just browsing the toys and comics all of which is well organized and in great variety.
The last one in our area, so we have come to appreciate it even more. Love the selection, how helpful the staff, especially in the kids section. Our family loves coming here on a regular basis.
Great place to spend the afternoon. I still prefer buying books in person as opposed to buying them online. I always leave here with a good book or two.
I enjoyed this bookstore. A lot of chair to sit down and enjoyed the view from the windows upstairs.
Vinyl records are making a comeback. Barnes & Noble has a whole section devoted to them. Dont have a record player? You can get one here for a reasonable price. In-store Starbucks, read, browse to your hearts content. There is no stopwatch here, but when you need to purchase a book quickly, you have 6-8 cashiers willing and able to complete your transaction.
A great place to spend an evening, three floor bookshop with titles on almost anything you would like.Theres also a great collection of toys, stationery and nice gifts.Starbucks inside the store, free on-site parking available and easily accessible by bus and metro. Usually not crowded...
Best place to browse through books. The staff knows their store very well and they are always able to help you find what youre looking for. Great place to shop for gifts (they have cards, music, and movies) and we like to relax in the full Starbucks inside the store afterwards.
Quiet, clean, comfortable place to enhance your journey out of ignorance towards enlightenment . You can grab a coffee at Starbucks on premise and sit, explore and chill to your hearts content.
It is the treasure of vast variety of cookbooks and many other topics. Well stocked, free parking and a good Starbucks to enjoy your coffee while feeding your brain with books! After B&N in my town Baltimore city’s B&N in Harbor is the best one to go to. Friendly staff and good selection!
I used to live close to here as a post. Doc. I love this place. If reminds me a lot about my past.
Its not supporting Jeff Bezos, which is a nice place to start. Local folks work here, the space is pleasant, the selection is really good, and that includes a bunch of indie and more mainstream board games. Would go back.
Like any Barnes and Noble bookstores you have a fantastic selection of books, magazines, games and a nice cafe. This one was two stories accessible by elevator and escalator. The store was quiet, clean and climatic comfortable. Im sure to return this summer.
Lots of great space to walk around and explore books. The staff is always courteous and helpful. I like the fact that Starbucks is located adjacent to the store making it convenient to stroll around with a hot cup of joe/tea. The store is usually clean and the layout makes it pleasant to search for books. The only drawbacks are that sometimes you may not find the book you want in stock and prices are rather more expensive compared to Amazon.
One of the better ones around. I never have any issues with anything, and the staff is super helpful.
Awesome branch been going here since I was a kid. Great customer service and they are always well stocked. B&N Rockville Pike you better not bail on us like your Bethesda store did. Might be taking my kids to this branch in the future.
Great selection of books to choose from. Love the variety of books. B&N team members on site are always very helpful and courteous.
Travel to find this location for me was ok but I couldnt find my book. Book stores always have knowledge unlimited. Thats a great benefit to anyone.
I love this store. For a big store, it feels warm and cozy. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and its fun to browse the shelves. Plus, theres a full Starbucks connected to it.
Great store and fantastic selection but there’s no place to sit.
I personally always have a blast when going to Barnes & Noble! This location specifically has lots of room the relax and read. I normally see that all the stocking of books is well maintained and so far have always had very positive customer service. I love how the books are organizated in a fun way so that person can relax and browse away.
Very relaxing, open store. I love how clean, and organized the space is.
These guys are amazing when it comes to good customer service. I love how friendly they are. They also have a wide collection of books to choose from. Best bookstore in town.
As these dwindle across the world, o find I miss them more and more. I love waking in and looking across all the books, journals, and knick knacks. Then I pick up a book and see how much they cost these days and almost choke! Well, theres still nothing more comforting than the smell of a new book and this place had plenty of them!
