Courier Coffee is now reopen but with pour over coffee and small pastries only. The one time that I wanted to give it a try, there was a line and it was moving pretty slowly so I left without getting anything, which was a bummer because the coffee is supposed to be good and the pastries look delicious.
I had the ginger and milk and it was amazing. Came back to get it again two days later and it barely had any flavor. Not sure what happened between Saturday and Monday.edit with more detail: Thank you for your response. This was last weekend, the 3rd and 5th that I visited. On the 3rd, the ginger had a sharp flavor, similar to a craft ginger beer made with real ginger. On the 5th the ginger flavor was mild. Next time I am in Portland I will be back to try it again. My wife loved the cold brew coffee!
This is a wonderful little coffee shop. I didnt even know it was here. The staff is amazing and watching the care and precision of my barista making my almond milk hot chocolate by melting real chocolate first and mixing small amounts of almond milk until completed. It was amazing. Oh and the baked custard was fabulous.
Amazing coffee and personable staff. i like to meet up with friends here.
Hand-selected coffee from distant locales, roasted here in Portland and delivered by bike. The freshness is unmatched, the vibes are thick. Strike up a convo about the region or specific farm where your coffee was grown and you’ll be enlightened shortly.Fresh baked goods, including muffins, cookies, and sometimes Canelé. Treat yo self!
Delicious coffee, superb muffin (not even in the same class as muffins in my honest opinion, it was so good), and one of the few places still open in the middle of the most snow Portland has had in ages.
Best cafe in Portland. Truly feels like home, just don’t wash your hair in the bathroom.
Cool shabby shop with kind staff. The pour over is a steel filter which is nice for being environmentally friendly but I really prefer the clean cups that come from a paper filter the natural process. Ethiopian pour over was a bit muted compared to some of the bright fruity cups Ive had at home. The espresso was delicious and on the slightly sour end which I like.
Canele is pretty good
Very small, super hipster place. It’s what I’d imagine a coffee shop in Portland to look like. The door was a bit finicky as there’s a latch you need to push up in order to get in. There is very limited seating so probably not a good place for you to lounge around doing work or catching up with a friend. That being said, the cold brew coffee was great. Smooth and not acidic, it came with a single giant ice cube in a recyclable cup. I also got a pastry which I forget the name of, but it was good. Not overly sweet but a nice pick-me-up for the afternoon. There’s a park a few blocks away you can go to sit on a bench and get some fresh air while enjoying your coffee. Overall, great quality coffee in a cozy, hipster cafe.
Best coffee shop in Portland. Local secret. Sad that the shop closed due to COVID but it looks like you can still contact the owner and order?
Very quiet, cozy place. Highly recommended for coming here alone for peace and quiet. The hot chocolate is great (and a huge portion), and the boiled egg was simple and nice.
This place has an amazing atmosphere. I can tell that they use minimal plastic in their preparation and operations. I like their record player and old fashioned shave ice machine. The coffee is excellent too. Very bold flavors with a smooth finish. Highly recommend!
Tried a few coffee places around and this one was the best. Quite, cozy and pleasant service. What might be improve is to separate of the backroom as occasional dish movements make sharp noise. But that doesnt remove much from general vibe.
One of the best micro-roasters in town. A local coffee place with lots of regulars gathering by the bar in the morning. Small batches roasted to perfection. The Sumatra is silky smooth. The canele is very unique, with a nice contrasts of the crispy outer and soft breading inside.
A very vibey coffee shop. One of the best iced lattes Ive ever had - and they were generous enough to let my dog have a big ice cube as well in the heat. They dont have outlets, but if youre planning to write or draw its a great spot. You can people watch, or just listen to the jams playing from the old record player. I liked it here a lot!
Courier Coffee is my favorite coffee shop in town. Ive been coming here for years. Their baked goods are especially lovely, both the canelés and the muffins. I love coming here for a mocha, checking out the art on the wall, and listening to whatever record they have going.
Very good coffee. Each cup brewed individually. Small shop with variety of high quality coffees and light eats. Not a lot of room. A couple of tables outside. Convenient to the book store and Pearl. If you like good coffee this is worth a stop
Courier is the spot when you just want a seriously good cup of coffee in downtown Portland. You won’t know whether they’ll play Dr. Dre or hipster tunes, but the coffee and espresso drinks are excellent. If you’re fortunate enough to visit when they have salted chocolate chip cookies or canelés, do yourself a favor and get both.
Best 6oz latte. In Sydney (my hometown) they serve a 3/4 latte which is my favourite. Courier nailed it for me with the 6oz latte. Great atmosphere; basic and honest. Nice guys behind the lovely polished wood bar. Went back an hour later for a strong (three shot) 8oz latte: nectar of the gods! Highly recommended if you like this kind of thing.
The coffee is so good. Ive just dropped by Portland and this coffee shop had one of the best reviews in town. It did really live up to its reviews. The house mocha is good. Different taste. 🤙
Great little coffee roaster located downtown. I needed to buy some ground coffee and we found this place wandering around. I bought the one from Guatemala. Brewed it the next day and it was delicious! The inside is cozy and theres some chairs out in front. Not whole heartedly pretentious, but I can see it being that a peak times.
The iced latte is perfect. Very smooth and not bitter. So good on its own, I dont even need to add any sweetener (I usually add just a tad at other places)
Lovely fresh roasted coffee in a small comfy space. Lovely people. Good music on the turntable. The place to people watch.
Small little coffee joint but it packs a punch. Very friendly staff. Very knowledgeable. Coffee was on point. Many different coffee choices in the city but this one really stands out to me. Feels cozy and intimate.
Incredibly delicious coffee. Typical Portland service, which struck me as a bit cold when I first moved here, but now seems normal. The baristas are interesting and passionate people who know coffee. I love the ambiance, which is just the right amount gritty. The local art on display is very well curated--I always look forward to seeing a new collection.
My new, favorite cafe in Portland serves up highly distinctive roasts from around the world. I come for the coffee, but the architecture and the staff are wonderful as well. Im currently drinking their Rwanda, but the Burundi, and the Ethiopian have been excellent. The staff has a lot to say about various growing regions, globally. Finally, they spin some choice vinyl on a turntable. Love this place.
A walking tour walked in while I was waiting in line for a cup of delicious, delicious coffee- seriously, Courier makes the best coffee. They pushed me out of the way, along with other customers, to order their six drinks and got immediate service. So because the staff encouraged this by serving them above all other customers, heres a one star review.
Good coffee and service. Good for getting you coffee on the go. Limited seating space.
Great little shop! Id travel out of my way to get the mocha and cold brew here. Always have interesting music playing on their record player. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.
Im a barista in Los Angeles and wanted to hit as many coffee shops as I could while I was here. I planned to hit up Powells and needed some coffee before, so me and my girlfriend saw Courier and decided to stop in. Everyone serving was super friendly, and I got a pretty standard hot almond milk mocha. The barista took her time making it (in a professional way, not in a slow uncaring way) and WOW. What a deep rich flavor. I saw them using actual (I assume dark) chocolate chips and what a difference it makes! Absolutely one of the best tasting espresso drinks Ive ever had. Smooth as silk and yet had a very wonderful bitter dark chocolate flavor. The decor is minimal I literally only saw coffee equipment and a dope record collection. Its clear that this place puts coffee before everything else and I respect and appreciate that. Wish I lived here so I could keep coming in.
Super great little place tucked into a building next to Sizzle Pie & Powells and well worth the stop. They roast their own coffee, deliver it via bike courier, and bake all their own goods in shop. Their canneles are super delicious and they always have a fantastic record spinning in the shop!
One of my favorite coffee shops in town. Friendly staff and regulars make the atmosphere welcoming and fun. Their espresso and pour overs never disappoint and their baked goods are made in house every day.
Amazing espresso and fresh coffee beans, which they roast themselves- so you know they are dedicated to making high quality coffee. They also have bakes goods that are made in-house if you are looking for something to snack on with your drink. A+
Everyone here is super super nice despite the hipster were cool vibe you may get walking by. The staff is incredibly friendly and they make really delicious cookies for $1 (but they almost always sell out - so plan ahead!)The coffee is smooth, drinkable, and really delicious. Love this place!
Best coffee shop Ive been to. Focus on ultra-premium quality. A big reason I miss living in Portland. Used to come in with my wife and 3 kids. Outstanding cookies and hot chocolate, as well. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating staff.
If you want an “Authentic Portland” feel this is the place for you. If you want a good cup of hot chocolate it definitely isn’t. The hot chocolate was just bad, probably the worst I’ve ever had. Also the staff came across as rude. Maybe I caught everything on a bad day but definitely will not be coming back.
Came by here to buy some beans to fly across country, they have been extremely enjoyable. I got a pound of the Kenyan. I also grabbed a cappuccino to go, which was awesome. The staff was very friendly here, and the place is cool and minimalistic. Would recommend for solid coffee.
Unpretentious and fantastic coffee and baked goodies. Turntable with great music. Staff are chilled but attentive. Low on the hipster scale, which is great 😀
Kinda small and overpriced. They are located in a good location and open early. Lattes are pretty good but with all the coffee shops in Portland I have found several better alternatives.
Staff recommended two delicious coffees for us. Small shop and not a lot of seating but we found a seat, parked our stroller (enough rooms for our small stroller) enjoyed our coffee and headed to Powell books which was less than a minute away. Would go back for the coffee!
One of the best and most comfortable/cozy coffee shops left in Portland.
Hand made pour-over coffee. Great beans. Coffee that makes you go AHGHH COFFEEEE!!!! Also, fantastic understated canele made in the shop.
Awesome Portland coffee gem. Art. Wonderfully roasted beans. Even Japanese shaved ice at limited hours. Everything delivered by bike. The revolution is brewing.
Excellent shop! Robert was a great waiter and the chef was in plain view of the clientele and very personable. It felt like a European cafe.
The smoothest cup of coffee Ive had. The service was warm and friendly and they were spinning some great jazz (Thelonous Monk). A must visit if you love coffee.
Perfect place for a nice selection of coffee that are mostly rotating. Its always refreshing to taste something new from around this world every couple of weeks. Fantastic pour overs, and a nice record player can be found here.
Small shop, but I believe they roast their own beans and bake their own pastries. We went back several times during a trip because they had one of the best cold brews weve ever had. In my opinion, it was better than Stumptown, Heart, and some of the other roasters we visited.
Meh. Hole in the wall place. Nice people, attentive staff. Coffee is very weak, taste mostly like warm milk. Latte was like warm at best. Only sweetener available is sugar in the raw. Not that it is bad, but does not help people with blood sugar problems.
It was my first visit here. Because of recommendation from very famous local chocolate shop staff, it was happened. The coffee I tasted was SUMATRA. It was nice balanced and flavoured so much. So I took the coffee for my souvenir of PDX. And I still enjoy it in Japan. The shop is cozy, but people are friendly and nice atmosphere. Especially, hand written label on the 1 lb. bag is great.
Ever wanted to learn more about your coffee than you could ever remember? Courier Coffee is the place to be then. They gave me the full rundown of where my beans were from, the day the were roasted, and much much more. Im not complaining though; this was the best cup of coffee Ive ever had and it only cost me two dollars. The education was worth more than that in itself.
Cute little independently owned coffee house. Staff very friendly, accommodating and helpful. Our macchiato was absolutely delicious and we loved the Japanese shaved ice in Strawberry flavor.
My favorite coffeeshop in Portland OR. 90s LP records, very tasty espresso, non-shippable get in store only roasted coffee, and Japanese vibes.
BEST VANILLA LATTE EVER! I ordered one iced...came with little vanilla beans floating throughout and one giant icecube to keep it cold without watering it down. Just excellent.
Tried so many coffee shops and coffees in protland and this one was the best.
Bomber coffee, and amazing fresh pastries. Perfect low-key coffee place. The barista dude also gave me really good tourist advice.
Small, quiet. A perfect Portland coffee shop.
Long time local roasters done good with their very own shop. Nice, informative staff, good selection of treats made by local bakeries and of course, damn fine coffee! Come here to geek out on their record collection, check out the art of the walls and try some good coffee!
Ssshaved ice, a popup for shaved ice? Of course it would have to be in Portland. Saturdays during the summer. They use a hand cranked shaving machine which results in the fluffiest and softest ice shavings. Unlike the hard mini ice cubes of some other nearby places. This is the shaved ice to get, with creative flavors and fresh toppings.
Courier coffee was a beautiful location and smelled of freshly roasted coffee. Im not even a coffee drinker but I still loved the mocha I ordered along with the wonderful urban atmosphere that accompanied it.
Best coffee in Portland, great people, I make it a point to go here anytime Im back visiting. I really wish they shipped the beans though!
Great tasting drinks. Staff seems reserved and distant... Would love some warmth to match the space theyre in (which is also awesome).
This place continues to get better and better. Easily in my top two for favorite coffee downtown. They pull some of the best shots, the people here are fantastic, and the space is gorgeous! Cannot get enough!
Everytime I come here I am reminded how great it is. I drink a ridiculous amount of coffee and make a habit of trying every coffee shop I can. In the past three years of being in the area and the several dozen shops Ive tried this place is still my favorite. By far one of the best cold brews in the city and thire homemade syrups are well balanced and amazing. The environment is intimate, quiet, and very relaxing. Definitely a great spot to bring a book to or meet a friend.
Visited again three years after my memorable experience during my first time in Portland. Once again, he laid out an amazing cup coffee (pourover) and it was only $3!!! Baristas are very kind and know their coffee! Awesome place overall 30 second walk from Powells.
Such a charming place with delicious food. 💛
Astoundingly good cappuccinos. Great records. A+
Great little coffee shop with several pour over options as well as excellent espresso drinks.
Coffee is decent but staff is either high, adhd or just easily distracted. I ordered 2 pour over coffees and got one. When I tried to order a chocolate chip cookie (that looked freshly baked) it never arrived. Its great that you like to chit chat with the customers but not if it means ignoring orders.
Its clear from the haphazard, just-organized-enough look of the cafe look of the place that they have enough time to focus on the coffee. All coffees are prepared to order with the pour over method, and the staff really know their beans and roasts. Come prepared to enjoy the coffee, not your laptop. There are no outlets in sight.
True hipster coffee, courier style. No frills coffee shop that makes one of the best cups in town.
Coffee was made using a washable our over metal filter - coffee was very muddy and lost flavor. Solid film of ground coffee on the bottom of cup. Killed about 5 files at my table.Pastries were 7/10Stumptown quality beans(+), Starbucks performance(-).
The coffee is excellent and its one of the coolest cafés in Portland. It has everything you could want: young, attractive clientele, a record player spinning great music, local art on the walls, everything delivered by bicycle, fresh pastries. And yet — despite the potential for coming off as pretentious — the staff is among the friendliest and nicest in the city.
Basically the food and the coffee is OK, the price is reasonable and the service is good.
This is perhaps my favorite coffee shop in Portland. The atmosphere is relaxed, its not too loud (in the morning, at least), and the coffee is fantastic. The roasts from Kenya have been my favorite so far.
I dont want to talk up how good this place is to prevent you and others from going and making it crowded for me when I go there. I also want to make sure some cookies are left by the time I go for my morning coffee. :)
Amazing coffee and incredible cookies. I havent even tried a pour over yet but its next on my list.Better than the fare though, is the atmosphere and the culture it seems to attract. Ive never had a normal experience in this place. From people getting 86d, to regulars in the middle of a 5 minute ironic diatribe to the harmless homeless drop-ins, I walk out of this shop in a daze every time and grinning from ear to ear. I feel like my experiences are too statistically frequent to be coincidence.
My friend introduced me to this place and I was impressed! I had a scramble with potatoes and it was so flavorful and delicious! The service was amazing! I cannot say anything bad about my experiene. I see now why it is a local favorite and was fetured on one of the Food Networks shows.
Expect a long wait, but the coffee is well worth it. This is a small spot so avoid bringing a large group if you want to stay in. Nice staff, Portland-y atmosphere.
Very minimal if thats your thing. Ice cubes are cool in many ways.
Best pour over coffee in Portland. Always jammin good tunes.
Decent coffee, but snobby attitudes. And sometimes, Im in the mood for that! Honestly, I always hear Eddie in my head when I come here: I dont really want to drink a cup full of your anger
I was here only once, and I found the pourover good, with lots of single origin choices listed from acidic to earthy. The yoghurt muffin was flavorful, moist, and fluffy. Small sitting area, good local vibe.
The staff recommended a great coffee based off my description of what I prefer and the baked goods they have there were killer good!!
My order: 2 shots over ice. What I got: probably 1 shot over 2 square ice cubes in a hot paper 8oz cup after a descent waitGood coffee, bad execution
The coffee was terrible. As a barista and pour over lover, I looked forward to a nice pour over in the hipster City of Portland and it was bitter without any smoothness. Don’t recommend
People can complain about the staffs attitude, but I like their low-key, somewhat reserved atmosphere. Their beans and pastries are really good, but Im not a big fan of the on-site pour over.
