My friend just moved literally right around the corner from here. We decided to try it this morning. We got a sausage egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and we also sampled some bakery items. The blueberry buckle, the oat and almond blondie and the carrot cake bite. Let me tell you, this food was amazing. The sausage was delicious and made in house. The bakery items were all amazing. That carrot cake bite though... the best thing I’ve ever had in my mouth. The icing was so velvety and delicious. I am so glad she lives so close. Can’t wait to try their lunch sandwiches and one of their iced lattes.
My partner and I visited for brunch on a whim and were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and food. We got breakfast sandwiches and lattes - both were delicious. The space is much nicer and much larger than it looks from outside. I was impressed by the fact that they are clearly socially/environmentally conscious without being preachy. It is a very comfortable place thats full of charm. We found an eclectic group of patrons scattered about in the dining area -- some studying, some chatting, all enjoying their morning in this fine establishment. We will definitely back!
Pear and the Pickle is such a Pittsburgh gem. The food and coffee are always great, its a lovely atmosphere, and the owner and staff have always been kind and provided great service. My husband and I actually had our wedding rehearsal dinner here several years ago. The owners went above and beyond to create an amazing menu and fun, laid back ambience that was perfect for us to be able to show off one of our favorite neighborhood joints to friends and family. Whether you are a Pittsburgh native or visiting from out of town, this place should be on your list to get to! You cant go wrong with the breakfast sandwich.. it is simple and perfect.
Such a cute little Cafe! Coffee is good, the Food is even better!! Reasonably priced. $40 for me and 1 other for coffees and breakfast sandwiches. Employees were all nice and helpful with the menu. Mask are required for entry.
Bobby and his team are amazing. Pear was a weekend staple for us when we lived in Pittsburgh: we love the care they put into their food, their customers, and their community. When the shutdowns started, we felt comforted by the safety measures put in place, knowing we can safely support however we could. And in a time where businesses are strapped with rising prices and fewer workers, I love that theyve implemented a way to make sure their employees are taken care of. We will see you soon on our trips back!
I discovered Pear and the Pickle after a recommendation from a close friend of mine last year. Picking up food on Saturdays during the shutdown has been something my partner and I have enjoyed over the last year. We have always been met with friendly service and delicious food. We were delighted when they finally reopened their doors for dine-in service. Thanks for making something as simple as a bacon egg & cheese the highlight of my weekends!
I love Pear & Pickle so much. It’s the small details for me like the pepper they crack on the tomatoes before putting them on the breakfast sandwiches. There’s so much love and attention put into each menu item. Can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, I especially love the breakfast sandwiches, the meatloaf sandwich, the tuna and the Rialto.
This is one of my favorite sandwich spots in Pittsburgh. A family-owned, local business that makes everything with tons of love and attention. Also, I love the 20% service charge! I wish thats how it was in all restaurants so employees are actually guaranteed to receive a living wage. Be kind to small businesses like this one who have been going through an incredibly hard time during this past year and a half.
One of my favorite places in pittsburgh for a sandwich. You get what you pay for at this place. I value a small business that pays their workers fairly and adequately. I’ll gladly pay a few extra dollars to ensure people are paid well. Having worked in supply chain for years, I understand how expensive ingredients have become. You will not regret going here!
Pear and the pickle is a beautiful venue serving Real food with locally sourced ingredients. I adore the meatloaf sandwich. It’s not fast food- or bargain food- it’s delicious eats that support local growers, makers, and their staff with a living wage. You know when you eat there that you are putting money back into real every day people’s hands and that makes every bite extra delicious.
I live in Troy Hill, and since Pear and the Pickle opened, they have been nothing but an asset to our community. Alexis and Bobby are some of the nicest and most thoughtful people Ive met, and their staff is always on their game (even when they have a line out the door). We were lucky enough to hold our rehearsal dinner in their cafe and it was absolutely perfect. They have so much care for the food they serve, the people they employ, and their customers. Ive yet to have anything from the restaurant I havent enjoyed (and I dont think I ever will have that problem).
Love Pear and the Pickle. Its a great breakfast and lunch place; all made to order and delicious. Its a bonus that they have a conscience; caring to pay their staff a living wage. And, get the blueberry buckle - its the best!
Love the atmosphere and the sandwiches are so good! Loved the vegan grilled cheese! Baked goods are also super yummy. I love that they charge the 20% gratuity up front and support a living wage for their staff. More companies should care so much for their staff like they do!
The best breakfast sandwich in Pittsburgh is their sausage, egg, and American cheese. But any variety of this sandwich is amazing. We being out of town guests here and come back regularly for ourselves. Other favorites include the Rialto and Troy Hill Turkey subs. The deserts are so yummy, the blueberry buckle and brownies always get me! More importantly we ordered from here during the pandemic and loved their family style meals, during those crazy times when you didn’t know if the grocery store was going to run out of food or not, it was nice to have this place!
Did not love the coffee but the breakfast sandwiches were insane!! They did add 20% to the bill for only two of us which was a bit odd. I have seen that done when the party is large so tip isnt forgotten but have never had it for such a small order. Perhaps to prevent use of cash for tips but also they didnt inform us. I went to look at bill to figure out tip and noticed it. Either way, we will eat there again.
Without a doubt, the best breakfast sandwich that I’ve ever had! Worth every penny! The coffee is great! The lunch menu is also delicious! We love this place. Highly recommend!!
Pittsburgh born and raised here! I never knew about your little shop until I visited last December and was staying with a friend in Troy Hill! Your sammies are some of the best! I love that you add gratuity so I don’t have to worry about it too. Thanks for being so great and real!
Since it’s beginnings I’ve been a regular at “pear.” Besides having the best egg sandy on the planet, the staff is the most welcoming I’ve ever been around. Everyone when I walk in makes me feel like Norm from Cheers! I enter…”TIM!!!!” It’s the highlight of my day when I get a chance. Support this group of awesome humans!
This place is a true home-away-from home with humbly delicious sandwiches, a swell atmosphere, and a sweet-hearted, talented, no-nonsense staff. They package to-go drinks and food in sustainable and compostable packaging (very rad). Theyve been very pandemic-conscious, prioritizing staff and customer health (also quite rad). Rather than relying on customers, the owners have started paying a living wage, so theres no more tipping. The prices have gone up, but its the same amount you would pay if you were already tipping fairly (again - rad). I love this space, the people who run it, and the positive impact it has on the whole Troy Hill community.
One of my favorite restaurants ever. Possibly the best breakfast sandwich I have ever eaten and also the kindest staff you could ask for. They also take safety very seriously and I really appreciate that right now.
Favorite mom n pop shop in town. Truly the best breakfast sandwich--and Reuben, and brownie, and blueberry buckle...--in the Burgh. The space is small but beautiful; you might wait a lil bit, but its so worth it. Kid-friendly. Love the ethics of this hardworking crew! Keep your dollars going to small gems like this one to keep them around!
I love this place! They have great food that is thoughtfully prepared, a community focus, and they take care of their workers with a 20% gratuity upfront to ensure everyone gets a living wage. A valuable local business in our city.
My favorite breakfast sandwich in town. I can never decide between the bacon egg and cheese and the lox bagel. The quality of the food is amazing. They support local farms and businesses. The staff are always friendly and have been extremely cautious during these tough covid times. Which really speaks to how much they care about their customers and employees.
I am giving this place 2 stars because they add on a 20% service charge without informing the customer. The style of this cafe is ordering at a counter and picking up your order at the counter. This is not a service that should prompt a mandatory tip in my opinion. I would much rather have them just increase their sandwich costs than sneak in an additional cost while appearing to list items at normal prices. The food was very good, albeit I would not return due to the lack of transparency in the business.
The best breakfast sandwiches in Pittsburgh! Such a cute place. Everything is always so fresh and delicious. They take really great care of their employees and pay them a living wage too! One of our favorite places in the city!
Others have correctly shared that this is the best breakfast sandwich in Pittsburgh! They also have fun specials, seasonal drinks, and really amazing baked goods - check their Instagram before you go to see what’s new. PS: if you are really that scared to drive up Rialto street (🙄) just take Troy hill road, it barely adds 3 minutes to the trip!
I’ve moved away from Pittsburgh and still dream about these breakfast sandwiches. The best you’ll get in the 412.Stellar service, great atmosphere, and you can tell they genuinely care about the well being of both their staff and customers with the COVID-policies they’ve instituted. Forever a 10/10!
Lovely food! they are a cornerstone in the community of troy hill. staff works hard to make sure everything is perfect. ordering through their website was a breeze, pickup time was accurate and picking up was fast. lucky to have this place in pittsburgh
I had a egg & cheese sandwich and a chai latte. Watch out for the exploding egg yolk! I took a bite into the sandwich and ended up with yolk running all over my hand. It was delicious though. Great place for brunch and to hang for a while.
P&P is always my first choice when taking visitors out for a true Pittsburgh dining experience. it never disappoints.I’ve continually supported them over the years bc the food is delicious, they take extra steps to source local ingredients, and they treat everyone with kindness & love.11/10 💗
Extremely delicious food and drink choices. High quality ingredients and care go into every item!! Comforting and sweet, relaxing setting when I’m able to dine-in. Highly recommend!!
Great food and coffee, and more importantly great people. To those complaining about the service fee, try looking on their website and seeing the following As of June 30, Pear and the Pickle has eliminated the traditional tipping model and has moved to a service model. This means that every check will include a 20% service charge. This service charge will help us provide a stable, living wage for our experienced and highly-skilled staff.Got to love local businesses that put their employees first! If you dont like that, I guess you dont like supporting small business. Keep up the great work, love having you in the neighborhood!
The first experience was great. Courteous service, ambiance, and excellent breakfast with locally roasted coffee. The 2nd visit we were literally thrown out when we arrived at 1:32 with a gruff Last order is taken at 1:30 excuse. The person switched Open sign to Closed in front of us and turned to walk back inside after leaving us stunned on the doorstep. Your hours posted were until 2 PM, which is why we came back (besides our great first experience). You lost yourself a lot of future business as well due to your staff members rudeness.
So happy that this place made it through the pandemic! Incredibly high quality ingredients, superb customer service and all around just a fantastic experience. I recommend this place to everyone I know!!
I cannot say enough about how much I love this place. I have been here for breakfast and lunch more times than I can count and I will continue going back for the incredible food, wonderful staff, and adorable, welcoming atmosphere. As a Northsider, I am so proud to call them my neighbors. They make one of the absolute best breakfast sandwiches in the city, the coffee is great, the staff is knowledgeable and accommodating AND they have outside seating options. I love you P&P. You da best. I will also say that the fact that they include gratuity DOES NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES mean that you shouldnt be tipping twice as much as you think you should.
My favorite mouth-watering breakfast sandwiches in Pittsburgh, and the infamous burger nights are legendary. Cannot wait for them to return! Lovely spot and great folks.
Without a doubt a five star establishment.Sporting a clean and relaxing environment to enjoy their exquisite coffee as well as The best breakfast sando’ in the city WITH top notch ingredients. No cap.
The breakfast sandwich is what BEC dreams are made of. Then the Troy hill turkey is the sandwich I wish I could make at home but I just don’t have all the perfect ingredients, and they do! This place feels like home and is worth the trip up the hill. Go go go !
One of my familys favorite spots in town. The food is delicious and consistent and their coffee is A+. I really appreciate how seriously theyve taken Covid protocols from the beginning and their commitment to paying their staff a living wage. The service charge is very apparent no matter which method you use to order. We love Pear and the Pickle!
I moved to Reserve Township (right up the hill from Pear and the Pickle) last summer and I’m obsessed with the breakfast sandwiches. Have been probably a dozen times already. Not sure what I like better; the egg and sausage on an everything bagel or on kaiser. Also, GET THE AIOLI. And if you like flavored lattes, the syrups from P&P don’t have that gross sickeningly sweet and artificial taste. Gingerbread was my favorite so far.
I’ve been wanting to try this cute restaurant for a while now and today I got the chance and I’m glad I did. I got two gluten free breakfast sandwiches and they were delicious. Wild Rise Bakery is an amazing compliment to this restaurants menu. The aïoli on the bacon, egg and cheese was so good. The spicy Sriracha, sausage, egg and colby cheese was what my husband wanted. The coffee wasn’t my style as I prefer a dark roast but it still was good. We’ll be back again to try lunch.
The food is delicious. Support small businesses while making your taste buds happy. Win win!
Everything here is amazing. The sweets. The breakfast sandwiches. The employees. The delicious lattes. I am so glad to be able to support them!
Excellent choice for all things lunch and breakfast. The breakfast sandwich is a game changer; warning - you wont be able to go back to McMuffin. But try the lunch sandwiches too! The Santa Fe is large enough to split, especially if you add a (housemade) cookie or two on to your order.
The food is fire, the people slinging drinks and food are top notch. They always do their best to make the customer happy and incredibly transparent in why they charge the prices they do for their service and they deserve it and more.
I love love love this place! The food has been amazing every single time I go. Try the egg sandwich, it’s the best in tahn!
Such a lovely place and worth the trip to Troy Hill just for the latte and the sandwich! So happy this little shop survived COVID and modified their service model to keep bringing their menu to their customers during lockdown. Truly a neighborhood cafe and a very special part of the Pittsburgh community!
Pear and the Pickle has one of the best breakfast sandwiches you can get anywhere. They also pay their staff a living wage and it saddens me that people have the audacity to get upset at a 20% gratuity being added to their bill. Please be kind to people who are trying to provide you with a service during a pandemic
Grilled chicken sandwich should be called chicken salad sandwich. Almost as much chicken as greens. One strip of bacon that is undercooked and it’s smaller than a six inch hoagie. Then they have the audacity to put 20% gratuity on the bill. I should get 20% off just for driving up Rialto St in Troy. Don’t waste your time or hard earned money
I absolutely love that Pear and Pickle is making sure their employees get paid! Thank you! Wonderful staff, wonderful food.
Delicious food that is well prepared and made by caring hands. This restaurant strives to pay its employees a living wage in an industry thats struggling and thats commendable. Well be back ASAP.
The coffee and gyro were really good. It’s a great place to relax and have a cup of coffee although I felt the prices were a little high.
Excellent food, excellent staff! I love that my money can go to a business paying its employees a fair wage and get a good meal out of it.
The Pear and the Pickle is great, really great in fact! The food is fantastic and the staff are particularly friendly, but their espresso really stands out as perfect.
Amazing food and staff! Love seeing a business pay their employees a living wage 💙💚
The breakfast sandwich is to die for. Well worth the trip. Definitely try this place!!
My home away from home in Pittsburgh. So much more than the food (which is delicious), the P&P is a meeting ground - a true neighborhood cafe with personality and heart and soul. A place thats part of the fabric of its community and, especially for those who end up visiting more than once, that means more to them than just a bite to eat.But speaking of the bites to eat. Oh man. The breakfast sammies. The reuben. The deli sandwiches. Really, just everything. Its no wonder folks will go slightly off the beaten path and traverse the treacheries of Rialto St. to make it to the prize at the top of Pig Hill. And, well deservedly, it can become a bit of madhouse on the weekends. If youve never been and are wanting to check it out, my suggestion is to try to swing by on a weekday for a more relaxed experience. Or to look forward to the buzzing energy of lots of people hanging out, getting their coffee kick, looking forward to the best breakfast sandwich in the burgh.
Do not patronize this business. If you post a review on Google deriding them for sneaking a 20% service charge on your bill they will post your name on instagram and try to cancel you. Very immature. There’s a reason why most businesses don’t sneak service charges onto their bills — it makes customers mad because the price isn’t reflected on the menu. The service charge was also not clear and visible to myself or the other patrons I was with, we were all surprised to see it.Pro tip: if you want to pay your employees more charge more for you food honestly rather than trying to trick customers out of money. This is not a tipping issue; it’s an honesty issue. The food was good, but the business practices and the childish attitude of the owners ensure I will not be back.
Pear and Pickle is an excellent restaurant noted for its breakfast sandwiches and beverages. I visited here one morning with a group of people and walked away feeling satisfied on multiple levels. The food at Pear and Pickle is excellent and many have claimed that the breakfast sandwiches served here are among the very finest in the area. I would have to agree, as my own breakfast sandwich was beyond satisfying. The pound cake and iced tea added to my meal were also quite good and rounded out my morning meal. But there are other reasons to love Pear and Pickle besides food. This establishment is a cafe, but it looks very much like a persons home. They even have a book shelf loaded with different reads so you can kick back and enjoy a good book with your meal. And the friendly service makes the visit complete. You truly feel like you are at a friends home, sharing a meal and talking about the day.Pittsburgh has much more to offer than many people realize and Pear and Pickle is one of the highlights. Excellent food and service and a home- like atmosphere make this a must- visit foodie destination.
Charming place, family owned and operated, supportive of the community and their staff, ‘nuff said! We love this place!
The bacon egg and cheese with garlic aioli and tomato is my favorite sandwich in Pittsburgh! Such a great place, forever a favorite.
Café for the win!! This place is a must if you need your coffee/espresso fix. Owners originally from Brooklyn. They use Stumptown coffee. Fun eclectic ambiance in a unique neighborhood. Family friendly and great space. Outdoor seating on the roof. Do yourself a favor and go there. Then go there again. We went for breakfast and lattes at 9 am. Went to the Troy Hill splash pad (4 min drive) and then came back for cold brew to go on our way home. Do it.
Wonderful staff, cool location to sit and chat. Breakfast sandwich and cold brew were great.
Delicious PB&J with berries for kiddos and top-notch tuna salad sam for me.
One of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve had, I’d come more often if I lived in the area. Definitely worth seeking out if you need a hangover cure!
This place is great for family/kids! They continue to provide a safe environment in spite of the many challenges presented by COVID, and the service and food is fantastic.
Their biscuit sandwiches are fantastic and their coffee drinks are very good.
When you wake up thinking about a particular food, after having eaten that food way more than 100x’s, you know that it’s not just good. it’s great. pear & the pickle is not just good, or great, it’s exceptional. it’s a rare gem that exists in a peculiar neighborhood. if i could pick any restaurant/cafe, etc to exist in Troy Hill, it would be Pear and the Pickle.
I got the sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich with garlic aioli. It was good, not great (the bread wasn’t hearty enough for the heaviness of the sandwich). It is seriously overpriced. The 20% service charge results in an $11 sandwich and $3 12oz cup of black coffee. Some breakfast sandwiches are worth that price, this did not.
Tasty sandwiches and coffee!! Highly recommend 💯
Love this place. Many-a-morning fueled by Pear and the Pickle.
Fantastic space, wonderful staff, delicious food with quality ingredients. This place ticks all the boxes!
Best bacon, egg and cheese sandwich that I have had so far in Pittsburgh
Incredibly rude service, ended up just leaving and not eating. Wish I would have gotten the womans name.
Delicious sandwiches and great coffee with a lovely vibe
This is a really cool little spot. Great breakfast sandwiches and friendly staff. They have vegan options now and are beginning to have more options in the pastry / bakery department like cookies, rice crispy treats, and cake. They also have a variety of milk options including regular cows milk, almond milk, soy milk, and oat milk. They make their chai flavor in-house and its delicious!
Typical Pittsburgh fashion. Hours say open until 2pm. Show up at 1:40 and they are closed.
This places sandwiches are to die for. The Reuben, Rachel, and meatloaf sandwiches are things I wish I could have every day. Also, I greatly appreciate their stocking of the locally made Jamaicas Finest ginger beer.Only negative is having to deal with Rialto Street to get there - but that is a Pittsburgh problem, not an Pear and the Pickle problem!
Staff acted like it was a privilege to eat there. 20% Service Fee, but we had to pick up our drinks/food at the counter. Should’ve just made breakfast at home.
Guys.....the BISCUITS. O my. So good.We can always count on the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwiches to make our hearts sing on the weekends, but the biscuit this time around changed my entire day. So flaky, so surprisingly peppery, but not surprisingly amazing. Everything from this place just absolutely SLAPS.If you haven’t been here before, get here. If you’ve been here before, do your friends and family the solid of telling them to go.Thank you, Pear and the Pickle, for being the consistency this world needs right now.
Amazing gingerbread latte! Perfectly sweet and strong. The breakfast sandwich was awesome as well. Well definitely be back!
Super cool place. The owner is really friendly! The place is homey with a vibe of a small old timey western 5 and dime. The menu is limited but what they have is amazing. Ive only been here for breakfast but the vibe is awesome. Its just a feel good place. But be aware, this is a deli that serves food so the menu is limited. But what they do... is really good. Get the 3 pepper colby cheese on your sandwiches. You wont regret it.
Sausage, egg and cheese
Love everything about this place!!
Great coffee, food, and staff!
Love, love, love Pear and the Pickle! Such a great atmosphere and delicious food! Their breakfast sandwiches are honestly the best in Pittsburgh--Im salivating right now thinking about it. Delicious baked goods, both breakfast and lunch options, and great beverage selection! The staff is great and always willing to make custom food to fit your needs. It can be hard to find tables during rush hour but people are always flexible and friendly. They also have some basic household items for sale. Definitely worth the trip up Rialto!
Shop has takeout window on street (outside) if you don’t wear a mask you will be not served as per strict rules, sandwiches are ok
Amazing breakfast sandwiches. Very good system of online ordering and pick up, would highly recommend.
