I shop here once a year in order to provide my grown, vegan son (who lives in Philly) with a meatless holiday roast for his annual visit home for Christmas. I can almost always (if I remember to shop early!) find what I need and the service is always friendly. This year, yesterday, Liz went out of her way to ensure I was able to find what I wanted and I couldnt thank her enough.
The East End Co Op is a thrill ride of offerings. Who ever said healthy food is bland hard to stomach has no idea. The Co Opoffers an almost unlimited resource of great tasty healthy food. The minor downside is it can be a bit pricey, but so well worth it. Go and check it out. There is no way youll leave empty handed. .
I love this place! It makes it easy to make more earth friendly choices. The staff are so nice and every smoothie from the smoothie bar is amazing.
Best curated shopping variety in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Focus on local produce, humanely raised animal products, and tasty organic produce. Unionized workforce, happy to assist you with navigating the sometimes-mysterious world of non-corporate foods. Pricier food relative to corporate outlets, yes, but ask yourself how corporate food is so, so cheap...
A most excellent nature food store, not just supplements, gourmet healthy foods, organic produce and at low prices compared to the corp stores. Friendly knowledgeable staff and a great selection of vitamins, minerals and herbs and teas including American ginseng direct from the farm. Dont waste time and money at the BigBox stores and shop here.
So much organic produce and food you cant find anywhere else! Local farmers goods, imported cheese, and lots of bulk items. LGBTQIA+ friendly, knowledgeable and kind staff, and reasonable prices-even better than the chain stores! I only wish they had a little more room-its tight on there. My favorite memory is when I wasnt sure about a different kind of pear and they cut one up for me to try! ❤
You dont need to spend a lot for organic food these days (Aldi, Trader Joes) but this place makes you believe you do. I go here for organic products I cant find at other stores and for the fact that Im supporting local business.
Lots of great produce, plenty of bulk items including kombucha, soy sauce, oils, spices and grains plus more.Organic produce and meats also. They have a soup bar with fresh not soups daily.
My Mom became a member in the 70s I am now a Grandmother and still love them! I thank God they are here for my grandbabies to enjoy and thrive from. GOD bless them.
This little store is amazing! I was there for the first time yesterday. Such unique items. Everything is organic and its probably the best place to shop if youre vegan. The plants that they sell are amazing! I spent hundreds in one single trip just on plants for my collection. Ill definitely return to shop again!
Been shopping here since the mid 90s, and I love this place, but I cant give it 5 stars til whoever is in charge of the bakery gets it together. Have no idea why excellent bakers arent allowed to shine like they should here. They could easily multiply the bakerys revenue which seems super advantageous since they participate in profit sharing.I would be happy to give more of my baked goods money to The Co-op if theyd bake more interesting things. La Gourmandine and Madeleine and Butterwood Bake Consortium havent closed out the baked goods market, but for some reason, The Co-op wont take their peice of the pie.
Great little co-op! They dont have necessarily everything you need, but you should shop here first and then get those other items elsewhere. Great staff, the place is super clean and lots of good healthy options. Theres also parking.
A sale on flaxseed got me into the store. Once inside, I noticed many items that I was looking for at fair prices.walked out with $50.00 of merchandise. Will definitely return to this friendly store.
This place holds dear to my heart my father would take me here when I was a teenager and fully supported me getting into healthy eating a such age. Thank you for being able to provide everyone with amazing food and product options! I stopped in tonight and it was just a magical experience! I felt like my dad was with me shopping (he is in spirit) and to be able to have access and revisit the east end food co op 15 years later with the same joy in my heart as I did when I was young is something I am so grateful for. The staff is so kind! The environment is just so welcoming! I love that you give people the opportunity who are on public assistance a discount this is such a beautiful thing! Everyone deserves healthy amazing food!!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!💖💖💖 I look forward to eating and using all my wonderful food and products ^___^ thanks again!!!!
Until going here, I never thought a grocery store could be pretentious. But this place is. Their prices are comically high. The quality of their food is fine, but it is not worth what youd have to pay for it.
I had to wait in line outside for about 10 minutes because of the 20 shopper policy but it was worth it because I love their smoothies! I got The Monarch which has bananas, peanut butter, chocolate soy ice cream, and rice milk. It was really delicious! You should definitely make a special trip to try one of their smoothies. Its worth it!
I have purchased thing from East End Food Co-Op for over 25 years. Theyve expanded, but theyve kept their quality, their high standards about what they offer. Five stars, without a blink! Good stuff. Youre not going to be disappointed with what you purchase. And theyre passionate about it.
It Is A Bit Pricey !, Organic Fresh Fruits and Vegetables ! Has A Large Line Of Gluten Free Foods and Cooking and Baking Needs !, Vegetarian and Vegan Food Products, My Opinion They Just Need A Bigger Building ! Free Parking, Handicapped Access !, The Employees Are Very Helpful !
Very expensive. Had a policeman out there to make sure you wear a mask. I guess coronavirus was only in the store but you were safe outside. Lol
So many cool things to get. They have extra parking on side of the building. Store wasnt crowded, very organized, and clean. Definitely will be back.
I love the co-op it has all your fresh herbs that you need to brew your teeth organically fresh fruits fresh vegetables that are organically grown at a reasonable price
Great selection of health foods and plants are always healthy! Everyone is super nice, Ive loved this place for years!
Enjoy the wide variety of products at great prices, staff always helpful and courteous
I LOVE the co-op. Everything is fresh and mostly healthy. I usually visit this store whenever Im in town.
Fantastic small grocer with tons of unique items, I love that I can get venison here year round!
This is my favorite place to shop for clean, healthy, and organic foods and products!!
I love all the options they have here for local milk, meat, and bread.
Best place for all things organic
The fresh, organic produce is unparalleled. Member owned with discount. Who has fresh turmeric root? The East End Co-op! Nice supplement section, meats dairy etc. Local farms! Garden stuff + seedlings. Friendly. Shop local, worth the drive.
This place is super awesome!!! Pretty cool building and parking takes you out of the normal, boring grocery store feel also... Love this place. Was my first time and absolutely love it for all the rare and natural foods, herbs, nuts, seeds, vegan, etc. This list goes on and on... Cant wait for my wife to check this out...Another thing I absolutely loved about the place, actually, was their high standards of keeping up with cdc protocols that keep us safe while shopping through this pandemic.
Organic food Medicine as far as vitamins vegetables /chicken/ pasta /xcetera/ xcetera
Customer service great very patient. Amazing organization of products. Told my daughter and I about several different discount programs; along with current deals on items we were purchasing. Superb security during the Pandemic.
BEEN looking for aloe gel everywhere they had it.. many products with good ingredients like the co-op
I am so happy that our co op is open. Going there twice a month is a great treat. Since reaching senior status I enjoy discount Tuesdays and I can go crazy with the freshest produce ever!
Super crazy about masks. They will kick you out if its even falling down a little. I used to love this place, but a strong fear energy happening there
Loved it here. Grabbed a smoothie in the back while shopping. Have nice vegan dairy (replacement) options.
Gotta watch the prices, as sometimes things arent adding up right! Aside from that, its a quaint cute place, set up just as one would expect for a co-op. New to the area, long time vegan looking for deals deals deals 😉 definitely some whole foods priced items but still a few gems to behold. Thanks so much for keeping marjoram in bulk!! Its my fave, used regularly. Love love LOVE all the grab n go options for vegans, the best available Ive seen to date in a grocery store 😍!! Keep it up Easy End, Ill be a regular, for sure 🤗
SO MANY THINGS TO DISCOVER....AND EVERYDAY THEY ADD MORE...
If you want foodstuffs that lean towards the natural and organic and are willing to pay a selection and price premium, this can be your go-to place. Selection is large, staff is friendly, one of the few places with a great bulk selection, we try to shop here over Giant Eagle to support a truly unique cooperative. Great covid controls.
I love this place! They always have the herbs a need. The prices are a little less then Whole Foods. I really like their juice and smoothie bar!
Great place! Like a local Whole Foods/health food store. All the employees were really nice.
The best grocery store. Its inclusive and friendly. You dont have to be a member but you get a discount if you are!
Cute blonde hair blue eyes girl works there.
Fine odd items. Love the loose tea
Be sure to bring your own bsg if youre not a member. Polite staff. Easy enough to park near it
Very cordial staff, safe COVID implementations were in full effect. I Always spend more than intended due to high quality/variety of fresh produce not found in local food chains. A little pricey but well worth it. I do miss their hot bar.
I love this store because there is a lot of organic products which you can not find in any other store. The best feature is their staff who are highly motivated to help customers find they need. I shop here when im in the area
Small but wonderful produce and organic products. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Always kept stocked always a good visit.
East End Food Co-op is my go-to place for fresh, healthy organic produce that I can trust. The produce is not pre-packaged, meaning I can walk out with nary a plastic bag or container. I enjoy benefits such as quarterly discounts and senior discounts on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
This is one of the only places I feel comfortable shopping right now. The Co-op takes health and safety very seriously. They have an attendant at the door to limit the number of shoppers, masks are enforced, carts are cleaned between uses, plexiglass is up to protect workers, and the store could not be cleaner. The have a great selection of fresh produce, grocery items, and a great health and beauty aisle. The staff is very helpful. It is not cheap to shop here, but it is still much more affordable than Whole Foods. Plus, the Co-op does a lot to give back to the community and offers special discounts to shoppers paying with Access cards. A lifetime membership is only $100, which can be paid in installments and can be refunded at any time.
Great selection of produce and health foods that are locally sourced. Good for vegetarian customers too.
I always love my shopping trips to the co-op. The bulk foods section has what Im looking for in just the right quantities and I can always find healthy alternatives to the things that I would otherwise buy in a regular grocery store. Ive been a member for more years than I will admit to, and Im proud to be one.
Theres no place like the Co-Op in Pittsburgh, but unfortunately its very limited in size and its still very out of the way for most people. But I will go out of my way to go here to support my local farmers and producers and the lovely people who work here who are always so helpful. Its the only place I can reliably find organic produce at decent prices. Often from local farmers. Who wouldnt love that!
The staff at EEF Co - Op are knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Eager to help answer our questions or concerns about the food and products that they sell!! I highly recommend their store!!
I love this place. Wonderfully stocked with locally sourced items. A source for fresh food in the city. Staff is friendly and well organized. They offer delivery which is important during these times.
I usually shop from Aldi, Patel Brothers, Manpasand Mart and rarely in Target and Walmart for groceries (sometimes its just too much plastic packaging at these places). I tried this place because as somebody suggested it as an eco-friendly and low plastic grocery place. You can find organic produce here, however, I saw berries still in plastic clamshells (so no help). Good quality organic produce is found here so its obviously expensive. Personal organic watermelon for $7 if I am not wrong.I could get good quality pink lady apples (organic, no bar code stickers, no plastic packaging). I bought snacks and chocolates as I could buy them in plastic free packaging (compostable bags). Grains, soap, fresh almond and peanut butters can be worth trying as they all come in zero waste packaging and freshly made (buy them in compostable bags or your own containers). There is huge array of products which are derived from farmers grown and organic stuff, but I felt I will still be polluting environment due to their plastic packaging by unnecessarily trying new stuff when actually not required.Store is otherwise very good in arrangements, customer service and quality products. Only that I went for bulk and low-waste option, that need was not completely satisfied here.
Compact but have everything
I have been a member of the co-op for 15 years and it has been lovely seeing them grow and adapt to the needs of not only the member owners but the community as a whole. And a lifetime membership here will give you member discounts at an array of other co-ops including Peoples in San Diego.
Great. In every way.
Great place. Become a member and order in bulk for 20% off.
Love everything about this place especially the cafe 💕 the smoothies and teas are amazing
Simply the best quality food
Cute little co-op with a good selection. I especially love coming here to get honey.
Nice organic/all natural store. Member discounts and SNAP discounts. Shop here regularly.
This place is a local treasure. Even standing in line to get in is worth it. Abundant selection. Well organized.
Great selection of local produce/products and also a cafe for smoothies, fresh food, coffee! They carry jubilee hilltop farm eggs/meats, meads maple syrup, live plants, cacti, & succulents, raw milk & live fermented products (water kefir, kombucha, etc). They also have a great selection of vegan and plant-based foods, anything you could want and a great selection of brands. The only hiccup is that some can be a couple dollars more than what you might pay at wholefoods, really just depends on the product. The co op also sells homegoods like reusable eco bags, tp, paper towels, the BEST selection of natural skin care & vitamins/supps, teas, bulk spices & snacks/nuts/oats/flours/coffee. Overall great store but does have a high price point. If youre on a budget, its still one of the best places to get local & ethically sourced coffee & specialty ingredients like local produce!
Great food but I miss their bagels
Good quick stop and shop also has espiratons greeting cards. ethinic group.
Love this place! It’s the only place in Pittsburgh I can really go and get everything I want and need, without going to Whole Paycheck.. and of course because it’s a co-op you know you’re supporting a great local initiative :)
Good place for local produce. Everything else is either overpriced or Vegan Snake Oil.
I meet the most interesting people there ❤️ always kind & friendly.
Great bulk section with accurate online list of what they currently have available in bulk (coffee, flours, grains, cereals, nuts, herbs, etc). Very handy if youre looking for something obscure or a pantry staple. Nice selection of vegan and vegetarian hot bar food! Not sure how... but their plain old steamed kale is always so delicious, try it for sure. Herbs and tea section is apothecary-level stocked and even with some of the more obscure things, it always seems fresh. The staff are always pleasant and knowledgeable.
WOW! such great veganism scattered throughout the shelves. Nice russian lady cashier complimented the vibe! Fluent English, put our vegan pantry into paper bag not plastic! Be careful, luxury tax is high end in this place. Most products are better bought off amazon at the cheaper price. Big markups here, otherwise amazing pretty pre made meals and lookin good groceries! LONG wait line to get in. Thanks covid
Very good produce and servive!
Great little neighborhood grocery store. Plenty of bike parking. Friendly staff. Would love if they could expand their footprint to offer a wider variety of food.
This place is so near my work place it was most convenient to quickly drop in and find the item.......many brands I personally was not familiar with.....everthing was neat, and easy to find......smiles!
Get al your hipster food needs met here!
First time being in that store, the only problem that was I wish the had sanitizer in the simply because they have bulk items and people are touching everything.
This is one of my favorite grocery stores in the greater Pittsburgh area. Friendly staff, high quality food.
I like that they carry local products including Una biologicals skin care products (Lawrenceville).
Exactly what I needed for a healthier way of life🥰
Friendly for the conscious shopper and covid-19 safe. Certainly on the expensive side but worth it for certain products and being enabled to reduce waste and harmful chemicals etc from your life
Organized and succinct. I appreciate the helpful staff and the precautions taken to make it a safe shopping experience.
Alway fresh vegetables, produce. Versatile and diverse culture shopping. Many vegan and carnivore options. The Co-OP has many items for dishes you can’t find anywhere else. From coriander to bladderwhack to cinnamon sticks to aloe Vera plants 🌱. Soy, almond and rice milk products, natural smoothies with ginseng, ginger or lemon shots! Just an exquisite visit and adds delight to your shopping experience!
My husband used to live in Pittsburgh so we visit often. This is one of my favorite co-ops. Today we got the vegan mushroom soup, pecan pie and mock chicken salad. It was all so delicious! I’m excited to shop here regularly when we move to Pittsburgh.
Great place to stop
When you use EBT you get coupons for $ off your next order. Great selection of organic food.
Love the atmosphere. Love the product selection. (specially those in bulk).
Fresh organic great variety of food.
Love the staff and variety of organic food.
