These guys are super helpful! Merchandise at a good price point too. I went in to get keys copied, asked to buy some plastic fasteners that they didn’t actually sell, and the guy behind the counter handed me a couple from his own stash. Knowledgeable, friendly, super helpful … spend your money here!
Everything you might look for in hardware store of its size, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. They dont carry lawn mowers, tractors, or other large items you might find in huge places like Lowes or Home Depot, but in twenty years Ive found they have just about every hardware item Ive needed for my apartment, at reasonable prices.
These folks went out of their way to help me out with replacing my locks. Dwayne is a supportive teacher, and I was totally prepared to go home and work out the tools on my own! Everyone is friendly in this store, and they will have everything you need. If they dont, they know what you need and where you can go to get it. Wonderful!
Staff are so helpful & they have everything! A small and very personalized hardware store. We are so lucky to have Monarch in our neighborhood.
Great selection for your West Philly hardware needs.
These folks are running West Phillys best tool & hardware spot. Staff is helpful, and if they dont have what you need, theyll maybe be able to order it.
Super friendly dudes! They’re always friendly + patient, and have been helpful when I’ve come in needing help with finding specific things. They also have good prices, especially considering it’s such a small little spot, so you wouldn’t necessarily expect them to be competitively priced. They have a good selection as well— again, don’t be fooled by its size bc the store is packed with a wide array of both convenient + specific things you may need.I live nearby and there’s usually a constant stream of cars + people swinging by. Definitely not hard to see why they’re so popular!Highly recommended!
Place to go to change your life a bit.
Super fast glass cutting. Thanks!
They have what need. They know what types of individual needs for homes in the area. Keys. Cut glass. No long travel
Extremely unsafe during Covid, poor customer service, and pretty blatant price gouging in a few instances. I shopped there many times over the last few years, but will never go in again.
This is a go to neighborhood spot for households/hardware products/needs. It is safe and well stocked. The owners are knowledgeable and friendly. Parking can be difficult so parking at Municipal Parking Lot (between 8th Street & Passyunk Avenue) is best.
Reliable local hardware store - amazing how much stuff they have in this place - if you dont see it, ask.
So I went in and the guy sitting at the front asked me what I needed I had to tell him 4 times and he still didn’t know what White lithium grease was
Ive been coming here for years! Great place, fantastic family business--and is a staple for the West Philly community.
Convenient neighborhood store, friendly, helpful staff.
Im glad I have this store to walk to. They have a bit of everything, and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.
Charged 4.99 for a cheap $1 screwdriver (ok fine, support local business and all) before even going home I realized it was not the correct kind of grind on the head (wedge instead if hollow ground). When I asked for a refund they gave a canned response about their no returns policy (again I understand the reasoning here) they said that exchanges were ok, which was gracious of them. I wanted to exchange for wire caps, 4.49 (worth 2.60 anywhere else) and a tiny tube of super glue, 1.75 (2.78 gets 2 grams, almost 3x as much) I was told that I would “owe some money off that.” I didn’t have cash, they knew this because I used this particular item to reach the $10 credit minimum. In sum, I am a supporter of local business, regardless of anything like this, but with local business, people expect understanding, and being able to work things out. In the age of no questions asked refunds, being given a hard time about $1 is insulting, and makes buying online a very tempting prospect.(Edit, 3 instead of 2 stars because I hate corporate hardware stores and don’t want to cut into business. The review should serve just as a commentary on how rude the service was.)
The guy who was helping me was very helpful, had a nice conversation with the cashier, the overral experience was great. I would come back here again!
I have mostly had good experiences shopping here. Sometimes I feel like a real nuisance when I try to get help but thats kind of part of the charm somehow?
Good service from Danny he was wearing tan Dickenson
This place is really disappointing. It’s really close by and I expected this to be my neighborhood hardware store. Just bought a snow brush from there and it immediately broke when I used it on my car. Came back to the store 10 minutes later requesting a return and they denied it. Said I could have twisted it or something and that they don’t guarantee their products. LOL
Excellent old school hardware store.
I stop by this local shop at least once a week for all kinds of essentials. The staff is super knowledgeable and approachable. Ive gotten everything from perfectly cut panes of glass, seeds, plumbing supply, and tools. The prices are fair and you will spend much less time shopping than at a massive big box store.
They had what I needed. They knew what I needed. What more can you ask for?
Amazing little hardware store! Lovely staff that will always give you the best price and advice!
Perfect store. The kingdom of hardware!
Had some keys made. They were friendly. The place is an old time hardware store, not many of them left. They have a little bit of everything.
Just visited today. I needed a can of matte black spray paint. They were super helpful! I also got some hand sanitizer and 3 masks while there! Seemed pretty well stocked with cleaning supplies too!
They have everything you need to get the job done
Pleasant people . You P A Y for convenience on somethings though 😳😃
I absolutely love it here. The staff are always incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, and make sure I get the right product for the job. They immediately ask if I need any help or advice. Super friendly people and local--I love everything about this place.
Ive always been able to get everything that Ive needed as well as good product knowledge. When I was a child my parents shopped here and as an older adult I still shop here. I am proud to say that Ive been a customer for 40 plus years. Thank you !
First time visiting this store, they were very nice and welcoming! I will return!
Wise old man is wise. Hell help you out just describe your problem. Bring pictures and hell walk you through it.
They are a super helpful and old school small business
Always helpful. They dont mind opening the package to see if the hardware fits. Knowledgeable, and provide personal service. Great old fashion customer service
Called to get a lock repaired and after explaining situation 3 times to 3 different people, a grumpy man said we cant do, boss says so. No explanation, just rude. Stay away.
Amazing the product range packed into such a tiny store! Staff member very helpful in locating all the products I needed. A little pricey for the low range products, but its what youd expect for a store of this size
Great local hardware store. If all you know is the big box stores, go to Monarch to experience the warmth & expertise of a real neighborhood place.
Friendly and knowledgeable excellent customer service
Went in to buy screws for my guitar. When I got home I realized I needed 6X1 wood screws and not 8X1 screws. I returned 12 minutes later & explained I needed smaller screws & sales rep began taking me to the screws & said I cant take those back. I motioned no problem as they were only a $1.93 & walked out.SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES....LOWES WAS FURTHER TO TRAVEL TO BUT I KNOW I HAVE A NO HASSLE RETURN IF I NEEDED IT...MONARCH WAKE-UP THE BIG CORPORATIONS ARE KILLING SMALL BUSINESSES!!!!!!!!
Business must be extremely good for this store. I called to ask about a product, that I see many hardware stores sell online, but I wanted to get the part today and this store is in my neighborhood. Whoever answered the phone was incredibly rude and condescending as I asked for the part I needed (a drill bit adapter, to fit a drill bit that was larger than the drill I own could accommodate) and actually laughed at me. While I dont have deep knowledge of the types of tools and hardware that they sell, knowing that they literally laugh at someone who wants to give them business turns me off and makes me actively discourage others from giving them business.
These guys are nice, helpful, and honest. Theyre nice guys who are used to dealing with all sorts of customers. Theyre not even afraid to tell you when you should check out a bigger hardware store. Definitely my first stop for all home projects.
Phone call: Do you have lawn insect killer in a spray jug? Yes. Do you also carry firewood? Yes we do. ::takes lyft because its a 20 minute walk, gets to store:: They do not carry lawn insect killer. At all. And the firewood is bags of kindling for a home fireplace. So without even buying anything, we wasted both time AND money. Awesome!
Monarch hardware is a gem. In these times, we are so lucky to have such an excellent independent hardware store. Take your business to them and not to big box robot
Gave me a great tip on how to fix my door hinge. hooked me up with this awesome daylight light bulb that makes me happy. copied my housekey. chit-chatted with a new neighbor about teaching schoolkids. this store has been around since the great depression. it is staffed with sharp cookies and one guy was an honest-to-God Vietnam vet. Tremendous respect, Monarch. Friends for life :-D
Stopped in to buy some wire cutters and the guy was very helpful in showing me the most effective ones for my project. I ended up buying a great trashcan also which they me pick up later on . A++++++ For this hardware store.
Great little hardware store! The knowledge, amiable employees here make all the difference in the world.
I just moved to the neighborhood and I’m glad I found this Gem, for my home improvement needs. The staff is incredible.
They always have what I need, plus some stuff I didnt remember I needed until I see it in the store. Very reliable, knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly.
Needed a lock rekeyed. Got a quick answer to my question over the phone and fast friendly service at the store. Neighborhood hardware stores as they should be.
Very inexpensive name brand good quality products and the staff is not only helpful friendly but they will also be if you need help you understand what youre trying to achieve
When I walked in, the person I presume to be the owner was sitting on a box, texting on his phone. I needed keys copied, so I asked him if he worked there and he said “yes,” but continued texting on his phone, ignoring me. About 30 awkward seconds of silence went by before I started wandering around the store, giving him a minute to get his act together. When I reapproached, he was still texting, so I politely told him I need keys copied. He told me I need to detach the keys I wanted copied. I had already detached the two I wanted copied from the rest of the keys, so when I presented the pair to him, which were still attached to each other, he got a condescending tone with me and repeated “you have to take them off.”I just walked out. What a shame because I want to support local businesses, but they need to support me too.
Really mice neighborhood hardware store! The place has everything i could think to want from fine woodworking tools, to household utilities. The staff are friendly and very knowledgable.
Always shop here never been treated, talked to, or looked at let Im the one that dont know what Im talking about . love this store always have what I want
Amazing staff service selection
I went to a competitor due to locking my keys in car, and for house keys. It was crappy experience. The employees were all very nice and helpful. BUT the owner was very rude and not customer service friendly. The keys that were made repeatably did not work. I had to go back and forth several times. Finally I got my money back and went to Monarch Hardware. My car key and house keys were made and they all worked beautifully. They said that my car key was bent, and they would not refund my money. Funny though Monarch was able to do it all with the same keys I took in to the competitor. I have been going to Monarch for years. Due to where I was I tried West Phila Locksmith Company. NEVER AGAIN.Monarch Hardware got the job done with great customer service. I would highly recommend Monarch Hardware. I would highly discourage anyone from going to WPLC. No contest.
Very kind staff and very helpful. Will be coming here for all my hardware needs.
I am trying to work out new procedures on making furniture and this place is a great help because they have so many tools in here that I can use, new tools that are very helpful.
They almost always have what I need so why go all the way to Lowes where I have to find everything myself due to unhelpful staff? Thanks fellas!
Terrible scammers. they didnt even cut the lock but charged me 85.32. never go here. theyre terrible
Decent selection and often service can be quite friendly and helpful. Other times, however, the employees are downright rude and condescending.
Has the feel of a small town hardware store, but still an excellent selection of products, and reasonable prices.
Id been to two other hardware stores (another Tru-Value in Manayunk and Lowes) looking for some esoteric plumbing supplies. Not only did I not have to draw the guy at Monarch a picture to describe what Im doing and be told that what I was looking for didnt exist (a 3/4 ballcock thread to 1/2 compression thread toilet supply line), he knew exactly what I was looking for and had one in stock. In and out with everything I needed in under 5 minutes. I really should have gone here first but live and learn.
Nice old school hardware store.
Great customer service and awesome staff
Just found this place has a poor and impatient owner that lies to go home early tried to give small owners a shoot but faced for the first time horrible service. Never again I rather give my money to the rich then support a brick .
Poor customer service.
Owner is predatory and refuses to sell hardware unless you buy at least 3 pieces because they know theyre the only hardware store nearby. Will never do business again. Stay away.
Great store and good reliable work
Loved it great knowledgeable service
Really rude on the phone
I called them for changing locks for an eviction for a tenant. They started giving me charges like $89 for first lock, $49 for second and then additional charges. Next thing you know the bill was $216 plus tax. Very very HIGH. Unacceptable pricing.
Very friendly people.
Friendly and always willing to order the things I need if they are out
RETURN POLICY SUCKS. Im not an electrician, so when I buy the wrong light bulb on accident and try to exchange it, I get stuck with a useless light bulb. Never going back.
