I love this place. I have been friends of the family for nearly 40 years. The owner, Phil(My friends father), who recently passed in February, would go to the basement around 5am every morning to make the fresh mozzarella(Scamorza) up until he was in his 80s. This business started over 80 years ago, when Phils father, Lucio, opened it at the same location its at today. The business is currently up for sale. The memories I will cherish forever.

Mancussos Italian shop, on the corner of Passyunk and Mifflin in South Philly is a great little place for anything Italian. Its small so if you dont see what youre looking for ASK. Chances are Phil Mancuso has it. I go there for my Pamagiano-Reggiano and provolone. Their provolone is so sharp you can use it like a knife. And try to find Speck, anywhere anywhere in the city. Speck is that deliscious ham, somewhat like Procciutto but with a very light Smokey flavor. This ham is very popular in the north of Italy, North of Milan and up into the Italian section is Switzerland. Of course if you go there dont forget to pickup some authentic Procciutto at a reasonable price. Best of all, Phil makes fresh mozzarella every day. All and all, take a imaginary walk down a little street in Italy and go into Mancusos for some great Italian treats. Actually go just a little bit hungry, because Phil will be certain to offer a taste of any cheese in whine you are interestedn

The best place to get homemade mozzarella. The entire store is stocked with anything and everything you need to make a perfect Italian dinner. In the summer they have delicious water ice as well. This is our favorite Italian shop!

Best soft Ricotta Ive had anywhere from the Bronx to South Philly. I try ricotta everywhere I go. I ended up eating it with my fingers in the car because I couldnt wait. Grab a fresh baguette from a nearby bakery and youre set for the day.

Ive had cheese from caserta, and mancusos can easily stand right next up to it. Amazing. Real people.

Walking into this shop is like walking into little Italy. The mozzarella is the freshest Ive ever had. People in Philly may rave about DiBruno Brothers but for me its Mancusos.

Excellent cheese and pastries. Prima Donna is a cheese which is between swiss and parmesan-- and this one costs half what it does at Di Brunos.Check out the baked ricotta.What pastry is a available varies, but at the moment I have delicate flaky marzipan-stuffed cookies called ammareti.
