Overall, not impressed by the food. Maybe Ive traveled to Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore too many times, these dishes reminded me common street food but overpriced here. The only saving grace were their customer service, mahi cevichi dip, raw beef dip, fried prawns and st. Helen bone broth noodles. All else, meh... this is a one time experience for me.

This restaurant serves a nice mixture of asian dishes, mostly tuned to the Western palate. Portions are on the somewhat larger size, and made the small outdoor table a little difficult to manage. The drinks are limited to wine, beer -- though no draught that night-- and sake-based cocktails. Everything was tasty, not overly spicy or salty. Service was quick and very (!) enthusiastic, bordering on intense. Parking is a bit difficult but there are paid lots nearby. Prices were a bit high but not outrageous, as long as you dont order the wagyu (see menu pic). Recommended for fans of southeast Asian food.

Ridiculously good brunch. Every plate was well done and delicious. The bone broth noodles with oxtail was my absolute favorite - the broth was tasty, noodles were tender, and oxtail was perfectly juicy. Also loved the spicy papaya salad and fried oxtail tip. We did the ube and pandan pancake stack for dinner to top everything off. Soooo happy!Only complaint is that theres so AC on the back patio, so make sure to order a cold drink or youll be sweating through your meal in the summer!

I came here for brunch! I was lucky enough to get a high top table upon walking in but they were booked for fully booked for reservations so I would recommend that. I enjoyed the food overall. Their loco moco is on top of a hamburger style meat and it was fine but I wouldn’t order it again. The shu mai was good, but not crazy stand out to me. They unfortunately ran out of the papaya salad when we got there. The oxtail tips were flavorful but a little heavy for an app.I would come back for the dinner menu as I think I would enjoy it more than the brunch.

Previously home to Yu Jean Kang, it was spring of 2017 that Chef Erwin Tjahyadi debuted Bone Kettle, and continuing in those footsteps it is inside Old Town Pasadena’s historic Superior Building that guests will find modern Southeastern Asian Cuisine both familiar and unique.Once the owner of Komodo truck, an upbringing in California’s San Gabriel Valley instilling Chef Tjahyadi with an appreciation for diverse cultures and Ingredients, it is immediately upon entry that Bone Kettle announces itself as a different kind of Restaurant with understated elegance and service that is professional yet affable.Spanning Filipino, Indonesian, Malaysian and American in inspiration, with 36-hour Bone Broth the focal point across Dinner as well as weekend Brunch, guests may choose between the lengthy wooden dining room and glorious brick atrium, but should not do so before checking out a Pastry Case featuring items such as Bone Kettle’s weighty Toffee Blondie and “Lil Merri” which falls somewhere between an Oatmeal Sandwich Cookie and Feuilletine. Not really “Asian Fusion,” but instead a travelers menu featuring dishes with distinct origins next to others with roots elsewhere, it was after perusing a lengthy list that three Entrees were requested, “The Broth” clean yet complex with springy Noodles and Prime Beef complimented by an array of Spices.Offering large portions at modest prices, dishes such as Krupuk and Lumpia passed over to save room for more “brunchy” choices, Erwin’s “Waffle Stack” earns praise for not only its #instagram appeal but the diversity of flavors and textures while Monte Cristo French Toast is flawlessly executed, fried yet not oily and another example of when Bacon can make something already delicious even better.

Every dish as excellent. The lobster with noodles however was amazing. The noodles were perfect is the right amount of chew and the sauce tasted like lobster with sweetness and heat. Lots of lobster meat which was lightly battered and fried. The noodle with soup was excellent too. Service was top notch and the price was very reasonable.

One of my favorite Asian restaurants in Pasadena. Easy to find with street or garage parking. No valet here. Nice modern warm design. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Lots of beer and wine choices. No local craft beers here. Love their papaya salad and crab cake appetizers. I had the Ox tail soup and it was delicious.I was disappointed with their mango sticky rice. They used mango syrup only instead of real mango fruit.

A really amazing experience, probably the best Ive had in a restaurant in a long time. My girlfriend and I went after getting tattoos nearby, and were very hungry, as you can imagine. The staff was courteous and knowledgeable, made sure we had enough to drink, but they didnt over do it and hover. They hustled the entire time we were there. The food was amazing, especially the bone broth! We ordered the sirloin bone broth, papaya salad, crispy lime chicken, pork belly, and dessert of a waffle stack. I was so impressed with each dish, but the bone broth and the ube icecream were the stars of the show.We also had plenty of space to ourselves, even as a party of two. The light on the table was adorable and perfect and lent a intimate air, despite being surrounded by so many people.Overall, I would make a special trip just to go to the Bone Kettle. Amazing servers, incredible food. Absolutely worth every dollar.

We were kinda disappointed the menu got ‘woke’, and the colonial Dutch Indonesian dishes were voted off the island. While the food was super dee-lish, the service was mega scattered and forgetful..like a full-on state of dementia. We were never quite sure who our server was, and I don’t think staff knew either. They collectively shared server duties, but none of them had their s*** together or knew what each other was doing so all the hallmarks of dysfunction were on display. If you go..Yuzu gotta try the Kyoto beer, and calamansi margaritas.

Food was okay but our server Tammy was incredibly rude. I had a great experience the first time I visited here so I decided to bring my family this time but wish I hadn’t. Our server made snide comments in response to simple questions about menu items and spoke down to every single person at our table throughout our visit. I should mention that we were an incredibly low maintenance table of 4 and the restaurant was not at all busy outside or inside. Honestly no excuse for her to treat us or speak to us the way she did. Will definitely not be returning and would not recommend this place to my friends or anyone looking for basic customer service.

Arround the corner, among many restaurants within four blocks of Pasadena, pops up the Bone Kettle restaurant for it rich flavor food and desert. The food is preped Indonesian/ Philipno style with such exquisite taste and flavors. The portions are more than adequate. The chef owners Eric and Erwin preape the meal so delicately, youll feel it was just made for you. They have separate menus for lunch, dinner, and bruch. Thre is no doubt if any tasters out there are left behind. We were sat and taken care of by Caleb who gave us preview on literally what was on the menu. The desert was tottaly complimentary to it all. So rich in banana flavor and or course home made Americana coffee. The attention and service alone worth the second visit. But knowing what food is br8ng served here will make it a definite revisit.

Love the new outdoor. I didn’t know if I would like sitting out on the street with the cars passing by. But I actually loved it. More so than being inside. Drinks were great, very cool choices, and plenty strong. Ordered oysters as an app, surprised they had them, and damn were they good. Anybody who knows oysters knows they MUST have that ocean taste. And boy did they. So fresh tasting I felt like I was in the ocean. Really good sauces came with them. Bone broth soup was killer. Oxtail Dumplings are the way to go. Eaten warm it is almost a creamy texture but provides the most extraordinary savory taste. After having this twice I still can never fully prepare myself for what it tastes like.Brussel sprouts are good. But I would say probably could take a little more time cooked and with less sauce.Cauliflower is awesome. Very savory and worth a try.The broth was good but the egg noodles that came with it was quite mediocre. Made me not want it again even though the pork was good. If substitutable then I would.

Bone Kettle is nestled in the heart of Old Town right on North Raymond. Parking options can be a bit tricky but there are a few 90-minute free options in either direction, as well as meters and a $7 lot diagonally across the street. When you first walk in to BK, you are hit with the modern yet simple decor. Wooden seating, bamboo like wall structures, floor to ceiling plants, and my personal fav - monkey lamps :)...the owner is legit the nicest guy you will ever meet. He was amazing not only to us yelpers, but to his staff and regular restaurant guests! Real class act guy!And the food...me-oh-my... a lovely homage to a variety of different Asian cultures and influences. We got to sample their new lunch menu which included papaya salad, the most amazing chicken wings, lumpia, and some amazing beef bone broth. Service was great, but I was disappointed in several of the things I ordered. 1st off the krokets came out immediately and were dry. The table next to me ordered them too and took at least 10 minutes to come out, so Im pretty sure mine were sitting out. The oxtail dumplings were so so. Chicken satay was actually really good. Nasi Goreng fried rice was good. The garlic steak on the side was chilled in the center. Not sure if it was meant to be served like that, but I didnt get a lot of taste from the meat. The fried rice alone was really good though. For the price compared to the serving size of the seabass, I wouldnt order it again. The flavor was definitely meant for my palate. I couldve done without the side order of bone marrow, not much seasoning or flavor and again the texture suggested it was sitting for a while. Dessert wise I definitely loved the creme brulee trio (pandan/ube/banana). The mango sticky rice is mango puree and mango ice cream over crispy sticky rice. I was excited for the ube/pandan waffle and ice cream. That was the biggest disappointment. The waffles were over cooked, hard to chew, and no flavor. Between 3 of us, we barely finished half of that dessert. Im 50/50 whether or not Id go back. The presentation of the dishes overcompensate for the taste.

$28 Oxtail soup was good. $19 The Fatty Brisket soup was also good. $21 Sisig appetizer was good also but a very small portion. $20 Carbonara was just ok. Their broth for the soup is really good. Customer service just needs a little attention the reason I said this is because we always have to call one of their servers to ask for something that we need. Im not sure if their servers works as a team but we only saw the waitress the took our order once so we just kept flagging other servers to order extra drinks, extra utensils and bowls. I believe that if someone orders a beer they should see if we would like another one. That should be automatic for servers. Their price is a little high for the portion but if you have a small regular appetite you should be fine. They do have other stuff in the menu that has big portions. I would definitely go back to try it again and hopefully it would be a 5 star.

Its been said - you can judge a restaurant by its soup, salad dressing and sauces. Making each one of these takes culinary skill and separates excellent from average. And if I was judging this restaurant on its broth alone, I would give it 5 stars. The broth is heavenly. The depth of flavor makes everything you put in it better. However, I had the bone broth with chicken and noodles. The noodles were not fresh - they were dry and compact like you get in a ramen package at the supermarket. The ample chicken breast slices were actually chewy - partially because of the way they were sliced but also I fear because they had dried out too much. So A broth with D components. Perhaps theyve sacrificed their quality due to the pandemic in an effort to simplify service - but they should probably just sell the broth if theyre not going to put their best foot forward.

In a time where take out is the primary form of service I would think that delivering a very high quality meal that satisfies would be paramount. Cute restaurant in Pasadena with a nice charm. When you first walk in you will be notice how cozy and chill the place is. The hostess and server were super friendly. The restaurant has a nice setup for tables. In the front it looks like a picnic style table for larger families, a counter for patrons and a few small tables. In the main dining room there are two seat tables and a couple four seat tables all mixed up.The food was extremely flavorful and tasty. My favorite was definitely the oxtail dumplings. I would highly recommend this starter, you will not be disappointed. The oxtail was just so soft and the flavor was good. It was very tender. The spicy papaya salad was good too but a little too spicy for me. If you like spicy I would give this a try.As for the entrees, we went with the oxtail noodle soup and the ginger seared chicken noodle soup. The oxtail was good similar to the dumplings. The chicken was ok. Definitely nothing that special. The noodles itself were awesome. They had a nice texture and chewy. If you like noodles you definitely have to give these a try. The broth was really good tooo. Its super flavorful and doesnt taste that salty. It was nice how they brought you the noodles first and then a minute later a person comes and pours the broth into the bowl. For dessert we had the pandan creme brûlée which was excellent. It had the perfect texture and taste. I would not change a thing. The black rice pudding was ok. We just took a few spoonfuls and were done. As for drinks we had the dragonfruit lychee lemonade and the blood orange Fresca. Both excellent choices but make sure to buy a bottle of soju. It only costs $9 and you can add as much as you want or make multiple cocktails.Overall great experience. Highly recommended. I will be coming back to try different things on the menu and maybe for lunch too. Parking is not too bad. Decent amount of street parking and there are parking structures within a 10 minute radius.
