The majority of the employees are EXTREMELY LAZY, they see customers waiting, but they chit chat amongst themselves, or they are looking at their phones, almost to the point you think they are purposely doing it. Store doesnt accept any returns, EVEN if clearly unopened and unused items, so be absolutely sure you need what you are buying and you have a lot of time to kill since nearly everything is behind the counter and you need someone to get everything for you. The only good thing is that its open 24/7. The only helpful guy there was a Latin guy that was trying to helping all the customers.
The ladies working were very friendly and helpful. In and out with exactly what I needed in no time flat…..on a Sunday morning.
Very convenient and knowledgeable about all types of diy home repairs. Has been in the neighborhood for a long time. Theyre open 24 hours so if you need something at 3 in the morning, theyre an option. Fair warning: after 24 hours, theres a small restocking fee if you return anything. Good luck!
Reason one to buy online...Clearly stated policy on receipt.... However, who reads their receipts...1% restocking fee per day.... I call it THEFT.I wanted to exchange for another item, still.... Would NOT apply full credit for item purchased... THEFT.Didnt matter if I had covid and couldnt make it back... THEFT.Cashier wouldnt call the manager for a conversation....Reason one to buy online...
Mr. Café El is the only bright man working in this business. He helped me find the screw I needed. Nobody else was helpful or cared about servicing the customers and/or their jobs. They were cracking up laughing while a line of customers were waiting to get checked out. Their voiced echoed throughout the whole building. Thank goodness they have Mr. Cafe El who is their saving grace.
The guy working the register was one of the least helpful people ive ever met. they also told me over the phone (at 8pm) they could cut a piece of lumber for me, and, when i arrived via Uber, told me that service stops at 4pm. The unhelpful guy then told me whoever i talked to must have told me the time they stop cutting lumber for the day, as if i like wasting my time and money. He then shrugged as i walked out.
Some, not all, of the staff are so staggeringly rude. What planet theyre from is beyond imagining.
Great store & helpful employees. I started to mount my TV and realized I’m in an apartment with metal studs rather than wood, which I’ve never worked with. So I ran to this local hardware store and they helped me find what I needed to get my TV up. I learned a lot, and had to go back and exchange things a few times and each time they were very understanding and helpful! I finally got my TV up with their hardware’s help!
Moe was really helpful! Great store and customer service
What a pleasant surprise I just found out about this FABULOUS 24 HOUR hardware store and it doesnt disappoint. The staff is super courteous and found exactly what I wanted I was looking for chalky paint and they actually had it I couldnt believe it I will definitely be back and theyre really friendly
They’re great. Even when it’s not 3am (though I have had to go there twice during the late hours). They know there stuff and will guide you if what you are planning might have a better option. Also they have some really really nice reasonably priced houseware stuff upstairs. That’s actually how I found the place because when I got to nyc, after midnight, my luggage with my bedsheets didn’t.This was the only place open at that hour where I could buy bedsheets. And they were actually good quality. They have had my business ever since, even though I live on the other side of Manhattan
Very slow service. It’s terrible
Its great that NYC not only has this 24 hour hardware store, but that they employee people with knowledge of the products, experience, and an actual interest in making sure you walk out with, in my case, the right paint. I showed up at 1am after a second paint I had been advised by another store to try hadnt panned out, but with minimal background info, the overnight employee (whos name I should know...) has two paints picked out and extensive amounts of information about each to offer incase I needed more than her recommendation (which I didnt, but loved the conversation). Even if its not the middle of the night, this is the place to go if you want to get it done right the first time. (before and after pics)
NYs only 24 hour hardware store! Second floor has great knick knacks perfect for gifts. Candle selection is great! Very helpful and friendly.
Great selection. They have almost anything you might need. The prices are reasonable for Manhattan but they are open 24/7.
Dont go to plumbing section in the basement. The guy cursing at the customers...!!!
In the land of big box headwear stores this place is a gem. The staff is knowledgeable, quick, and efficient. They have always had exactly what I am looking for, even the most obscure items.
Wide variety of inventory and fair pricing. The staff are helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.
Best hardware store in midtown! Through the pandemic they have been a reliable source for cleaning products and always have random odds and ends for home improvement projects. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. I wish they had a location out East it would have really saved my butt on many occasions. Stay amazing!
Arrogant and helpful.Sales clerk sent me to look on the second floor for whatever I was looking for.looking for, he did not wanted to bother. For self-service, I go to Home Depot.
This place had saved me a lot of headaches and helped me to get the job done at times when no other hardware store was opened in Manhattan. Every business should have at least one place or office opened 24 hours 7 days a week service. Another two reasons for my 5 star review are helpful, knowledgeable salesmen and pricing in general is within range. Obviously, having an option of buying online or from a big department store like Home Depot or Lowes, there is no doubt youll find cheaper prices than a small store. The clear advantage is to have a hardware store available 24/7 in Manhattan. Great for businesses, especially general contractors as this store provides all kinds of emergency materials for plumbing, electrical, and construction in general. Also great for anyone looking to have a key copy done at any time of the day. I also took some pictures so you can recognize the store when youre passing by the 29th street from 2nd Ave to 3rd Ave. Its not easy to spot the store from the street due to some outside scaffolding/construction work. I hope you find this review helpful.
Theyve reorganized this store in the past few years, and much more is behind the counter. More emphasis on housewares than nuts and bolts hardware than it was previously. Prices seem to have gone up quite a bit too.
They have everything you need and the people that work there are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Open 24 hours. When I saw a rat and had to buy rat traps ASAP at 6am this was the only place to go.
Only 24 hours 7 days a week (Locksmith & Key duplicate services) Hardware store open in Manhattan!!! Even open on Thanksgiving Christmas and New years day!!! Extensive Hardware stock/supplies. Friendly service. 29th Street between 3rd and 2nd Avenue Closer to 3rd Avenue
Place has everything. Great prices on duplicate keys also
24 HOUR HARDWARE STORE! I love this City. Found the very unusual items I needed. Good prices.
Amazing stuff. Amazing service.....simply the best in town better than home depot....
Super rude staff
Didnt have a chance to order/purchase anything - they left me on hold for 35 minutes.
Prices have increased great, help is unfriendly and few and long wait in line to buy anything
How did a gem like nuthouse fall so far so fast. I’ve been a fan and frequent customer for years. It was a neighborhood staple, providing expert advice and readily available supplies for every home need. It’s new “renovation” has taken away everything that was good about the place. They now showcase items you can get in target or rite aide and have hidden the supplies you go to a hardware store for. Forget about finding any hardware items you need, the staff have no idea where anything is either. So sad...
Went in for a humidifier. They wanted $90.99 for a unit sold at Walmart for $37.00. When I suggested they price match, the salesman looked at me like I had three heads. This insane, desperate price gouging is why brick and mortar stores are becoming extinct.
Used to be a great hardware store with an excellent selection and a good housewares department. The improved version is a crummy housewares store. Most of the hardware is behind the counter guarded by a surly staff or hidden away in what appear to be bank vaults. They continue to get worse. Just an awful experience.
Staff was very courteous and helpful
Lumber for Insomniacs. If you dont know, then I cant explain it to you.
Came here over the weekend on a Sunday because I saw they were opened 24 hours. It was quick drive, easy to find, and easy to find parking. Im not sure why most of the reviews are negative because two workers there were over the top about helping me. I went to mount my TV on drywall, and needed the best type of anchors for the wall. I was shown a couple of different ones and even was instructed on the best way to mount a TV. I had a pleasant experience!
Love this place . 24/7 literally . Setup is way more organized than it used to be
The only place where it’s New Years eve and you can items.
Helpful guys, actually 24/7/365. Decent selection of fasteners
It is a 24/24 & 365/365 open hardware store with a large selection of diverse articles. Literally you can find all that you need.Surprising thing, the store is open at this time (the info online is up to date and real), and the staff is very friendly and helpful (at this late hour), even they look tired but were nice.I didnt expect there are floors of hardware, and i was taken to the 4th floor to find the drill bits i needed. Very productive and fast visit.Thank you so much for your help. From me - my current purchase, 5 stars rate, next visits and my best recommendations.
People working here don’t care about their potential customers. I asked for help and they wouldn’t help me. Don’t go here!!
Very helpful satff.. they have everything!! Love it!
Elder lady was extremely rude. Very disgusting lady. Just abhorrent behavior. Never again....
Overpriced no customer service 24hrs
I am a teacher in the neighborhood of this store and I often stop by for supplies for my design class. The customer service is great and recently they donated supplies for one of my classes. Its wonderful when a local business supports community schools!
The store with everything courteous and knowledgeable staff 2 thumbs ☝
It is a bug store. They had everything I needed. The help was OK. It is a hardware store but if someone asks for help, they should be a little more willing. But overall, good spot and reasonably priced.
A GREAT and one of a kind New York City treasure!!!! Theyre the answer to any Do it yourselfers prayers !! God Bless them!!!They have helped me out of numerous sudden repair situations!! The fact that theyre open 24 hours a day is a real miracle. Extensive, endless inventory, and theyll even cut wood to the measurements that you need. A very excellent place to shop!!!
Pros: - Helpful staff, nice selection of parts, prices were fine. The fact that they are 24/7 would get them 5 stars except...Cons: Bad returns policy. I bought a transformer, took it home, realized I did not need it after all (problem was with something else), returned it unopened to the store. They refused to take it back because they had a no-returns policy on certain electrical parts. When I asked where this policy was posted, they said the person who sold you this would have told you. When I said they definitely did not tell me that or I might not have bought it I was given a shrug and ignored. Stay away from here if you might have to ever return anything.
I normally go here without issues but today I went in to ask a question and staff made it seem as if I was unable to do any physical labor myself because I am a woman. Two guys laughed at the mere thought of my repair inquiry and the other woman stood there and allowed them. I am there often due to business needs but I will definitely be limiting the purchases I make there in the future.
So I bought a blue hardhat to replace the white one that was stolen from me. First, lol, the staff is friendly. I thought it was overpriced at $21 something considering the Home Depot has the white 3M one I purchased for 16-17 w/ tax included. Ive never heard of this brand before. I just hope it protects my head like it should.🙄
24 hours, 7 days a week. Closes half day for four holidays. Hardware, housewares, and lumber, paint.
Very spacious store with plenty of options for your apartment. Whether you need plumbing, mirrors, paint, carpets or light fixtures, screwdrivers and Power tools Rent, this is the place for you! The prices are pretty reasonable for hardware items . I guess economies of scale are working out for Nuthouse Hardware. Most of the staff are pretty helpful. And Open 24/7 . They have everything which is other store dont have .
This is not a mental facility! I know names can be deceiving, but please dont come here if you are a nut.But if you want nuts and bolts, please be welcome. This place has a LOT, and you do need to ask staff there because things sometimes not where you would think are going to be - thats at first - once you are used to the store you are gonna be almost like a guide there. It never closes. Thats very important because how many times you find yourself needing a nut at 3 am?? Exactly! Go to the Nuthouse.
The store is a little bit overpriced, but the degree over overpricing varies considerably, and given that its open ALL THE TIME, I am still so happy to have them in the neighborhood. They also have way more stuff that youd expect to find in a NYC store, for example-- I got a car jack this afternoon. Now nevermind why I need a car jack-- they had one when no one else in Manhattan had one the same afternoon. That is good enough for 5 stars!
It is also difficult for me to understand the motivation behind the renovation. And as a contractor who works in turn overs and remodeling in several buildings which are over a hundred years old it has become less attractive to shop there for supplies because I formerly enjoyed being surrounded by all the odds and ends of things for the sake of finding solutions in unexpected places or being reminded of bits of hardware that I hadnt considered because I forgot the they even existed. other times coming across something that with a little repurposing was superior in the case at hand to the conventional method or instrument one would expect would be used as per the plan was very welcome and earned then my business over and over again. Without this feeling of opportunity and inspiration the prices seem simply too great and the delay caused by understaffing and lack of access to the products too much of a nuisance to trek there and take in exchange for money which is earned the hard way. Still, they are open twenty four hours and the advantage of being open for business after Ive already finished working, made it home and showered and decompressed a little keeps them a mainstay in my shopping destinations which isnt likely to go away. But buyer beware. The nuts dont live there they work there and you need a thick skin and a good idea of what youre after to make it out with your answer in hand and your mood unsoured by the critical banter of these terse (but very knowledgable) people who do not struggle to provide customers service instead of questions with a disparaging look on their face.
Whoever decide to remodel this place to make the WORST customer experience in all of NYC should be fired!!! Why would you take the heart of your business and make it impossible for customers to access?!?! The filing cabinets on the second floor are the worst. I swear there was absolutely no thought process put into it. It seems like a knee jerk reaction to shoplifting. Its a shame because it was the 1 place in the neighborhood that you could get just about anything you need. It makes more sense to go to Home Depot now.
I bought a stopper for my toilet and was promised that it would fit. They advertised it as a universal fit and was told that it would definitely work. The stopper did not fit and when I went to exchange it with the receipt just a few hours later, they told me they couldnt accept it because it had been opened. I asked to speak with the manager and they wouldnt allow it. It was a $5 stopper so it wasnt a huge lose for me but theyd rather lose a customer than do anything within reason to help. Dont trust these people.
I love this place! It is a New York city treasurer with excellent customer service and a wide selection of anything you would need for construction, plumbing, electrical and your every day needs.
No return policy, poor attitudes of workers, always a last min resort when everything else is closed or crowded
Went for duplicate set of keys, nice and fast service
These people told me they had a part I needed when they did not. I told them I was going to have to travel for about an hour to get to them so I asked if they could set it aside for me, which they said they would do. Even offered to pay for it ahead of time just to confirm. When I arrived I learned that they never actually had the part. I showed up and asked what they were holding for me, and what they handed to me was the wrong item, clearly marked. Using what they gave me wouldve been dangerous. When I asked the woman who I had spoken with about the part over the phone why she had misrepresented what they had she simply turned away. I had other options which were a little less convenient but which I would have gone to if these people hadnt lied to me and try to foist off the wrong item on me. Now Im SOL and wasted over 2 hours to boot.
The most entertaining shopping on the Island of Manhattan can be had between midnight and six am at Nuthouse. The overnight staff are enchanted. Your caulking project becomes magic.
Excellent 24/7 go to hardware store in midtown. Dont always have exactly what you need, but alternatives will usually cover you.
Yes its convenient that theyre open 24/7, but its a total mess inside, so much so, that it took two associates almost an hour digging around piles of unsorted items to finally determine that they in fact did not have the drill bit I was looking for. Some associates are very rude, while others dont seem to know anything at all. If its late, and you really need something, then take your chances, but be prepared for it to take a while.
Oh man I really need this place, so glad to know that this place is here and 24/7. The staff members here are knowledgeable and friendly. Long live in the Nuthouse
Staff is helpful and nice most of the time. Wood cutting fees are a little too expensive IMO. I dont like how nothing has prices on it so youre forced to take it to one of the barcode scanning machines to check the price. But things were relatively easy to find.
Everything you need from a hardware store 24/7 and these guys will help you find what you need each time you ask.
Gosh, I want to love this place, I really do. They just frustrate the hell out of me. If they dont have a price for something the guy will spend 15 min scrolling through their infinite computer database looking for it. Half the time they have something LIKE what youre looking for but not it, yet they have 15 versions of the thing you dont need. The place is a mess, its like they always give up doing inventory halfway through. The basement if full of junk (they do have good scraps), the blade on the table saw is always dull and smokes. All that said, they are 24hrs. and 9 times out of 10, they have what you need, you just had to dig. Their real tool section upstairs (locked elevator) is legit, they to have serious tools and they rent as well.
24 hour hardware store !!!. Where do u find that. I went there 1am, needed fuses. BAM !. Staff very down to earth, knowledgeable, friendly. However, you CANT return purchased items. Only downside, so be sure what u buy.Place is huge w like 4 floors. Trade-off is a bit pricey vs Home Depot but worth to avoid crowds, etc.
Found this wonderful place ONE BLOCK from my daughters apt; super helpful & knowledgeable staff; the store is huge by NYC standards; 24/7 - are you kidding me?? I am in love.
DisappointedI asked guy to match a screw he said and I quote. We might have it but to look through everything is gonna be alot Mario I think his name is Im never going back. Happened 30 mins ago
Well stocked hardware store. Great kitchenware section upstairs.
Solid store. Will come back in the future. Does keys. Open 24/7. Great customer service. Recommended for Manhattan hardware shops.
Open 24hrs a day.. Really amazing! And a life saver
The staff is pretty rude but theyre 24 hours so Ive definitely been there in a pinch and they have almost everything. The only issue being the staff doesnt know its there and doesnt care enough to help you find what youre looking for.
This place has almost everything and one should come here first if youre in a punch. The best part of this store is that its open 24 hours and sells water heaters in the middle of the night.
Great Service. GREAT STAFF. EVERYTHING YOU NEED.
The name says it all! I swear these people are from another planet, rude, dismissive, cantankerous, ZERO customer service. Do not get keys made here, first off the machine is not calibrated and has not been for over 5 months. I know of 7 people personally who have wasted time and money getting keys made. The worst part is the will not refund you with out a receipt !!!!! Even if you were just in 20 mins before went home to check your key and come back. What a rip-off. Thats a total scam sham no thank you Maam!
The place & its layout are a little intimidating if you dont know exactly what youre looking for, but the staff is 100% willing to help you find it. The guys that work there are kind and funny and really want to help! I would recommend Nuthouse to anyone needing any sort of homeware/hardware/etc.
By far the best hardware store in New York or New JerseyFred is awesomeIve been shopping there for over 10 yearsAlot more then just hardware
This is the only place to cut lumber that I know of in the city. The staff is very helpful, so five stars
Extremely rude and unhelpful staff. Bought the wrong size equipment based on the associates advice and they wouldnt offer to exchange it even though it had only been 15 minutes. Please shop elsewhere.
Long complain short I had a leak in the house and it was close to midnight then I called this place up and told them Im coming in from Long Island. I spoke to one Indian kid on the phone and he ensured me they have what I was looking for. When I got there he didnt know what I was talking about and I even bring a piece of the faucet (sample) that I needed. Basically I drove 45 minutes for nothing.
Yeah they have a lot of stuff and are open 24 hrs, thats the good part. What pissed me off was that they sold me a TV remote control that didnt work with my TV when it was supposed to and they wouldnt give me my money back bc I had opened the package to test out the remote...to see if it worked with my TV...So they will steal your money if youre not careful.
Great customer service. They know their products and what the customer needs. A true hardware store!
I spent 45$ on a soldering iron so I could repair my laptop before going on a business trip. Brought it back home to find out that it simply doesnt work, 35 minutes of being on, and the tip wasnt even getting warm.Brought it back to the store and said that the piece wasnt working, Id like to buy a different model. They refused to exchange the product claiming that the box was in insufficient condition (by which they meant the dust still coating the box from their warehouse). In short, I just got robbed for nearly 50 bucks. Will never return again.
Loved this shop! I also own an hardware store in Italy :-)
Enormous, multi-floor complex that contains great selection of hardware, home goods, cleaning supplies available 24/7. Also during regular business hours they have children toys and games and a child barbershop on top two floors and a contractor supply in the basement that includes lumber, plumbing and electrical materials.
Always find what I need. Incredibly helpful staff.
Rude dudes and maskless staff members.
Great place to shop, soon as I enter different sections of the store Im approached and asked if I need help, cashiers are good, also the people at the self checkout are helpful, youre greeted when you enter the store, and when you exit there is someone to bid you adieu.
Having an oil peoblem with car...searce in all the wrong places for oil...came home and looked up...found this store...they not only have everything but they are so helpful and nice...and open 24/7!!! ❤️
Very helpful day staff, especially Fred. And they have almost everything you can think of or need.
They have everything you need and excellent service
This is a good hardware store with knowledgeable staff, and its open 24 hours. This is my first and usually only stop when I need something urgently.
My keychain charger was stolen when I tried to get my keys copied here. Be careful.
