One of my go-to places in NYC for organic vegan options, food supplements, produce and natural body care products. Truly one of a few remaining stores that is surviving whats happening and still going strong. I would like the management to consider bringing back at least hot soups - many of the health food stores are doing it and I believe it falls within the guidelines (if other businesses are able to do so). Also please fix your hours on google to save peoples time unless you really plan on staying open until 10 pm. Otherwise I still have tons of love for you guys! Keep it up!
As a local, I must tell it how it is. It is the best market I have ever had the pleasure of visiting! Everyone is friendly, the organizers do a great job by providing undercover seating, and attractive floral extras and local musicians to serenade the market-goers. I will surely come back and recommend this to everyone I know!
It’s one of my favorite stores when I want to explore new health and nutrition products that aren’t over commercialized. This store also has amazing health cosmetic products upstairs with seating area. The downstairs is all about food. They have a bakery and a savory buffet. Most things are plant based and they have some clean animal proteins for your non-plant based friends. They even have gluten free options. The shopping space for food is small but upstairs has a lot of room. Be friendly because these people are friendly. It’s a boutique grocery store that attracts all types of people.

Their organic bakery is incredible. It has extensive collection of cookies, cakes and other delights. All baked on the premises and always fresh and yummy . Made without the bad stuff..and is delicious.

Catering to mainly vegans with options for their friends!
What I like most of this grocery shop is, the parking area is really good, grocery supplies are in good quality, and the staff is all helpful, and friendly. I like the fresh seafood section and the can goods section, it is well-arranged and organized. The place is very convenient for me that is why I always go back to this store for my needs. Thank you very much for always there. Highly recommended!
This beautiful store had everything we needed. Honestly, with your shop, I loved making groceries because you have a great range of foods, plenty of fruits and vegetables, and many supplies. Soon, Ill be there!
Great market to pick up natural, vegan, paleo, etc ingredients. So glad to have LifeThyme in the neighborhood!
It was very disturbing to be a customer here and witness the Owner yell at a shopper continuously throughout the store from entrance to exit for almost 15 minutes non stop driving her out publicly in embarrassment. It was unprofessional and his staff were out of line as well towards the shopper telling her to never come back again and making it loudly known if front of other customers. What was more shocking was witnessing a team member intervene and pretend as if the Owner did absolutely nothing wrong and remain oblivious to any negative behavior when approached for help by the shopper. The entire store was filled with the Owners unsettling loud political remarks towards the shopper who just seemed to have an opinion. The Owner put myself and other customers in a dangerous situation because another customer became involved in the end and approached the shopper with words of shame. There were no prevention tactics and it was evident that the Owners ego didnt even consider the risk of this situation potentially escalating quickly towards something beyond his control. I dont think I would return here after seeing the discrimination towards a woman with an opinion, no matter how negative it may have been. The shopper was non threatening and voiced him ripping off customers, which he didnt handle in the best way as a leader of a natural store. If ripping off is equivalent to price and quality, I would honestly have to agree with the shopper. The store is very overpriced and the quality is questionable. Especially when they are more than any other natural vendor in the lower Manhattan area and not as impressive.
Bought prepared food and got sick. Found mold on other food and thankfully didn’t eat. Contacted management and they apologized but did not respond to my request for a refund or credit.
Even I’ve changed my diet over decades(vegan—> raw food —> pescatarian —> keto), still one of favorite place!!
Im editing my review to note, that I sweetly turned to her after my comment, looked her in the eye, smiled behind my mask nodded and said thank you. Much more than I can say for her attitude that came across. You actually do not deserve a kind caring customer like myself. Try making ME comfortable.Im seriously thinking open air markets with hardworking farmers is really the way to go. I respect the manager unlike most really cares and tries his best, cant control what employees do. I just had it today. Done, Over it.The reason I go to the self check out is to avoid the really poorly trained employees. This would not be the first time someone is breathing down my back - but here is the kicker, when you have a line, no one is paying attention (that I can see). There is definitely a way to monitor people at the self checkouts I wasnt born yesterday. So, give me a fraction of a millisecond to figure out for my highly intelligent self but not when I am clearly being monitored as you both stopped your conversation to do so, to figure out to click the open box in front of me. The benefit you get is 1. not make the customer feel rushed, and that you are monitoring them, do you like being glared down? 2. when there is a line, the customer has been trained on the machines to NOT need help if it is NOT necessary. Ever hear the phrase about teach someone how to fish?Lastly, when I comment to the cashier, unless it was highly offensive which it was not train them to SHUT UP. First I walked over and had to greet her as she was just staring. When I left she didnt even say bye but was sure to continue with her flat affect to stare me down.Who cares? Just stating facts. But I do care because this is my life and my morning and where I choose to spend and pay dearly for food that can be had elsewhere. Also then you chime in with more illogical defenses of what? I simply stated GOOD THING YOU ARE WATCHING ME BEHIND MY BACK.Can I have a fraction of a millisecond to figure it out?Can you give the customer a minute to learn the machine? Can you not start adding illogical statements that the machines break down, defensive defensive defensive I am not a psychiatrist! Why are you telling me? Did that happen here to my situation? No, and if it did me being the only customer in the store would have had NO issue finding you so WHY ARE YOU TALKING?I cannot seem to come in here and just be left alone or met with a smile. I really really really really really tried.I hope I can come back one day in the far far far far future but it looks like for now I just feel way to observed and unnecessarily so, there was absolutely NO NO NO reason to say anything to me except smile. Stop reading so negatively into my comments and if I had something negative in them GROW UP and understand that as a hugely privileged business sometimes it happens and trust me there are worse people to talk back to.
There was a hideous employee under the name of “Mahaul” or “Mahaun” or something that phonetically sounds like that. For the purposes of identification: White, slim, brown hair, probably in their 30’s, maybe 40’s.I said “excuse me” before I proceeded to ask my question but upon seeing that there was no response I repeated myself, only to have them lash out with horrible attitude and say to me “yeah I heard you!”I understand that people have bad days sometimes, others are just outright rude, whatever the case: it’s not my problem, and certainly not the reason I come spend my money here.
I really love shopping here.. truly! But I was a bit disappointed today when I wanted to buy an apple crisp in the prepared food section, only to see that were a few mold spores growing. Picked up another that also had mold too. I always like to grab food on the go from Life thyme but I have to admit it is disappointing and I certainly don’t want anyone to get sick. I come often and loving shopping here.Update: Jason and the staff there have been so helpful assisting me with this matter and offered to make it up to me. I greatly appreciate their effort in ensuring safety and satisfaction to all of their customers. Despite that incident, I have and always will recommend this market to friends and family because they have stellar organic products that are hard to find and Ive made some of the best recipes as a result, and feel healthy! Thank you for your understanding!!
I love Lifethyme!!! Easily one of my favorite markets in the world, not just NYC!
A great supermarket. Fresh produce and great fresh foods.
Went here today to purchase a few things. Their register froze and they were unable to complete my first transaction. The cashier recommended using a different form of payment and moving to another register. Transaction went through and I left the store. Immediately got notified that the first charge had in fact gone through and swiftly returned to the store to be refunded. Manager refused to refund my initial accidental charge and told me that my bank would handle it. Now I have to file a claim with my bank instead of the manager being a professional and resolving the issue. Poor management.
Ive been going to this store for nearly 5 years and can say so many wonderful things about its employees and produce except for ONE thing. THE OWNER. He is a nightmare of a person. If you see a tall guy, slightly bald, and the employees tense up, youll know hes close by. I feel so bad for the people who have to work for him. Ive actually heard him swear at his employees while at self checkout! Unbelievable. He cant handle stress and really takes it out on his employees. Its sad to know that such a wholesome market has an owner that is so toxic. To the owner of LifeThyme, Jason/GM, if youre reading this, get yourself some help.
Ive been coming to LifeThyme for decades, more so when I worked close by. Their best feature is their salad bar, which has a lot of variety and is quality food. The daily choices may not be to everyones liking, but the ingredient quality is far better than most New York salad bars, including Whole Foods.I also like that:- Theyll have some interesting products that you cant find elsewhere.- They have some unique store-made desserts in the refrigerated section.- Their soups are very good- There is seating upstairs where you can eat your mealMy one misgiving about the place is the steady rise in prices over the years. It has reached a point where I will walk over to Integral Yoga to buy certain items, because their prices will be more reasonable. The most obvious example would be produce - the produce here is just not good enough to justify the sometimes (very) high prices. The juice bar prices have also gotten a bit over the top recently.LifeThyme does sometimes have good sales though. But there arent enough sales on the items I like for me to do regular shopping here, just occasional. I mostly come for the salad bar, the soups, and the desserts.
A bit cramped at times but they have pretty much what youd expect from a LifeThyme Natural Market. I particularly enjoy the breakfast spread at the hot bar and the elevator to the downstairs parking. Not a big fan of when they distribute samples because its already a bit cramped in there, and people who take samples tend to linger and create shopping traffic.
Felt like I have been here before. Very welcoming. LifeThyme carries a great selection of natural and organic health and wellness products. They also have self serve organic coffee which was okay and an interesting variety of raw, organic, and gluten free treats.
Love this place! Kept me fed well all through college 😅
Whoever is the new prep cook puts way too much garlic in random salad bar items. The recipes used to be consistent, but now I get stuff and cant eat it because of IBS flare-ups. Makes me not want prepared food from here now.
I love how the store is set up I found everything I wanted really fast and the customer service was great.
Pros:- Many unique, difficult to find items- A wide variety of *selections* in many areas such as nuts, grains, milk alternatives, etc.- Vegan options-Dairy free options- Lots of *labeling* so you know what the ingredients are- Buffet- Hot and cold prepared foods and desserts counter- Juice counter- Friendly service :)Cons:- A little pricey, but Im still willing to support a local shop over a conglomerate :)*Edited review after encountering more friendly workers. Keep up the good job!
I love that you provide so many vegan options and sustainable products (such as refill soap& cruelty free cosmetics). My job is at NJ and I live in BK, but I always try to sop by because your store is awesome!
Best products and excellent staff! Very knowledgeableUpdated 5/17/2021They closed earlier than the time stated and locked the doors. Came all the way from Brooklyn after work with 5 minutes to spare and was ignored until 8:58pm and dismissed with the hand across the throat gesture.
I have a soy allergy and Im trying to go vegan. The staff (in particular Michal) is excellent at finding soy-free plant-based foods that are fresh, easy to work with, and can be used both at home, and for making lunch at work. HIGHLY recommend this place.
This place has great vegan cakes and pastries. They also have good pre-packed sandwiches and salads. The buffet selections need to change because for YEARS it is always the same selections. The cook is the damn cook and does not believe in changing what she makes! (# boring). Otherwise things are good there. They no longer have the fantastic juice bar which is unfortunate. Seems like the management has changed as well. Theres an upstairs seating area as well. The prices keep increasing so that has been a concern of mine I suppose the rents in New York are making it hard fir businesses to survive which is really criminal!! We are losing so much of the character of this city due to increasing rents.
Life Thyme has the most delicious and healthy food selections of any market in NYC. They have an organic food bar that is always full of tasty selections. It is also good to know that eating organic does NOT always have to mean emptying out your wallet for a meal. After 9pm, Life Thymes Organic food bar is HALF price with purchases of 1 lb or more.
I was refused accomodation for my medic alert support dog! THE ADA STATES THAT NO SERVICE ANIMAL CAN BE LEGALLY SEPARATED FROM ITS HANDLER! THIS STORE IS VIOLATING DISABLED CUSTOMERS RIGHTS! THE NYC HEALTH CODES PROVIDE EXEMPTIONS FOR SERVICE ANIMALS! So this used to be my fave place for years when i lived in the neighborhood. I moved and couldnt go back because of my health. I finally was able to go back with the help of my dog and they told me they could hold my dog at the front, but if I have an emergency my dog wouldnt be useful. Thanks for making my health needs your priority. Hope you dont get hit with a lawsuit. PS. Dont wish a disabled person a speedy recovery. The point of being protected by federal laws of the ADA is because my condition is IRREVERSIBLE and profoundly effects my life all day every day. I need the dog for service and he is not a pet. I will contact the ADA to put them alert that you are violating federal laws.
Most amazing grocery store Ive ever been to - Im obsessed. They have everything you could want and the prices are very reasonable for the quality you receive. I love their prepared hot and cold foods. Everything is fresh and healthy with the best ingredients you can buy. Cant recommend this place more! Whoever is in charge clearly cares SO much about their customers and quality standards/the environment.
Great spot for hard-to-find health goods, like Spike seasoning. The produce is fresh, the deli counter looks tasty, the supply of bagged teas is exhaustive, and theres even a lunch buffet (charged by the pound) that always has a couple things you want to try. Prices are reasonable.
A true organic sustainable Market.Best bakery, juice bar, health and beauty aids.Fresh produce all organicSalad bar all organicJahns raw deserts and foods.Love the staff, managementGreat value.
Not impressed! I have been to this store twice and I think their customer service is terrible. Today, I asked a brunette girl in the produce area about their soy-free eggs. She shrugged and said, We have the half carton and the full carton but sometimes we dont have it. So, if you dont see it over there then, we dont have it. I dont know whats going on over there. On 5/22, I came in and I had to pack my own bags after seeing the same cashier pack and open the door for the previous customer! I like supporting smaller grocers but, I will be going to Whole Foods, Fairway or Trader Joes
Sugar-free desserts are the best. Especially the lemon cheesecake. Adore!
They sell lots of great stuff there, and theres one employee there, Hermina, who is very conscientious and dedicated to customers. But the rest of the staff couldnt care less about you, especially if you call to put in an order. They put you on hold and forget about you. Happens over and over and over, no matter how many times I and others have complained about this.
I love life thyme. The quality of the products and the knowledgable staff are both great. The salad bar is reasonable. The only downside is how small the store is but that can be maneuvered
One of a few organic markets in Manhattan. Community feel, love it! It would be great if they would visibly distinguish organic from n-organic, i.e. different colored price tags.
LifeThyme is a unique store, there is a hot bar as well as desserts. You can come and do some grocery shopping for fresh organic produce or breakfast items. Upstairs they have a small eating area and home essentials like toiletries and cleaning supplies. Be sure to check them out
Just started going back here after way too long an absence. The buffet bar is as good as ever and I have to say it is a total pleasure to encounter such friendly staff - and not in a Trader Joes Stepford Wives fashion. Everyone is genuine and not in a corporately enforced way:)Oh and they have just added self service check outs too.Its a bit out of my way but definitely worth it and will be returning frequently.
Really like this place. Expensive but not AS expensive as the Citarella up the street and has good produce and most other items. A great selection of supplements and vitamins and such. Check out process is a little slow sometimes.
Wish their buffet would be more environmentally friendly. Even their plastic forks are wrapped in plastic! :(
This place is for the birds and its quite surprising theyre still open. The majority of their products are way overpriced and the hot food section is a disaster! Everything is cooked with tons of ingredients, juices, etc. ...there are no keto-friendly options unfortunately. Do yourself a favor and avoid walking into this place.
The most amazing selection of raw, vegan dessert and other snacks and entrees. But VERY expensive, like double what you pay anywhere else. This place makes whole foods look like a dollar store. Worst part are the teeny tiny aisles. Let me repeat, nightmarish layout because its too narrow for more than 1 person at a time, so some annoying millennial (why so entitled?!) comes barrelling down a tiny aisle with a cart (rolling eyes, COURSE she has a cart) and you have to move several feet to the end of said aisle just to let the queen past. I had a panic attack just being there because dont forget the crowds. Tons of people in these tiny aisles. However, I gave it 3 stars bc the location is fab, and that hot bar in the back is fantastic. The produce area is small but has decent quality and freshness. Just beware of the always rude, impatient cashiers who seem to get off on charging dumb rich white folks with way too much money SO much for groceries. Id not been here in 3 years because I hated the small aisles so much, but recently in Jan 2017 decided I had to buy some raw chia pudding. Within 5 minutes I remembered why I stopped shopping here.
Excellent food, coffee and service not to mention friendly local staff. Good to see local owners committed to the Avalon community. Cant go wrong!
Usually love a quick shopping trip here.... but today many items mislabeled at salad bar/buffet.... things that were labeled vegan were obviously not. also cashiers seemed too busy eating snacks to take care of customers in line. disappointing, and no longer on my must-stop list. ;(
If you like vegan deserts then this is the place. One missing point is they don’t have espresso machine.
Excellent variety of prepared foods and deserts. But staff and especially senior staff tend to be high-handed and surly. Store itself otherwise a very pleasant experience.
Great selection
Has the most delicious and healthy food selections of any market in NYC. They have an organic food bar that is always full of tasty selections.
I have been a frequent shopper at LifeThyme for many years. I have had both good and bad experiences but I am grateful for having a natural market within walking distance and with such a great variety of organic, vegan and natural products so I take the ups and downs in stride. One thing that continues to annoy me is the fact that the prices of so many items are mislabeled (and it is always in favor of the store). Just the other day a pint of blueberries on sale for $3.99 came up at over $6. And this is just one of many, many examples happening over too long a time. This also causes the staff to waste time because they have to stop the transaction and check the actual price. I wish the owners would get a handle on this so I can give LifeThyme another star...or two!!!
If its health food, organic, or part of a special diet, they will have it at lifethyme! Its crammed with merchandise so things can be a bit hard to find, but the staff is friendly and helpful.
All that you requirement for your natural and vegan basic needs. They likewise have a little determination of meats and fish. Great smorgasbord for nourishment in a hurry.
One of my favorite markets!!! Love their bakery and they run good sales on other items frequently
I buy my vitamins from LifeThyme as well as some organic foods. I trust the products here and the advice. Customer service is excellent. It is somewhat pricey but I consider this to be preventive healthcare and my health is priceless.
Always fresh meat. I recommend mackerel hot smoked and desserts. But the prices are not low.
Everything you need for your organic and vegetarian groceries. They also have a little selection of meats and fish. Good buffet for food on the go.
A 10/10 experience. the products were great and i found everything i needed. also, the people who worked there were so nice!!! i went there twice in one day !!!
Shopped there for several years nice atmosphere, helpful staff, and delicious/healthy food bar..When you have certain food allergies and a part-time vegan-LIFE THYME is a very good place to food shop... .It does get a little cramped at times BUT that is part of the atmosphere and charm...
Think of any natural foods and products, and it will be accessible from here. Its opened all days of the week.
Sun 9-30 11:30a - A young brunette cashier has been rude, refused to help me find the items. She said there was no one available to help me and that I should know where the items are located. Worst experience of my life!
Wide variety of organic products, produce & pastries. The buffet food bar is also great. 1/2 price off buffet food from 9pm. 1lb or more of food weight.
Beautiful store nice energy the people who are working in the store they are very humble, I would love if they reopen juice bar
Ive been a frequent customer for many years,. A few days ago while shopping I was harassed verbally by two female employees who kept screaming at me in a store filled with people and told me I had leave the premises unless I carried my service dog in a crate. Even though by law I am not required to show documentation, I provided the dogs service tag and was still harrassed by these two employees. You have lost a loyal customer who was within her rights.
Has the most delicious and healthy food selections of any market in NYC. They have an organic food bar that is always full of tasty selections.
Life Thyme has the most delicious and healthy food selections of any market in NYC. They have an organic food bar that is always full of tasty selections.
Great place to find vegan food and healthy choices. Staff is helpful when Ive come in here.
They have lots of raw food delis, salad bar and sweets!!! And everything is really great.(Though sometimes too sweet, particularly ones added with agave... But no sugar added goods are extremely delicious!I may be able to quit craving unhealthy, sugar-loaded sweets! ( good replace) ex) Banana pudding, apple pies, etc etc...Bye bye Magnolia & Bubbies, Hello Lifethyme!
Good natural foods, packaged as well as fresh. Good hot food bar & soups.
It has all sorts of good food options, but it does feel like its time for a remodeling.
Great little organic market. They also sell vitamins, hair products, soaps, essential oils, etc. my favor is their organic food buffet.
Life Thyme has the most delicious and healthy food selections of any market in NYC. They have an organic food bar that is always full of tasty selections.
Great place to get all the healthy essentials for your mind and body💪
Good health food store but a little pricy for certain vitamin and meals.
I used to come to this market everysingle day then one staff she always treat me very bad she is always angry never saw her in good mood disrespecting customer not only me she is rude to other customers also.today again i came to the store after long time but her behavoiur never change she was there to serve me but with same attitude so rude.i dont know her name but whenever she is there when she give me the receipt its written there clerk:michal
Excellent health conscious food. Hot and cold bar, soups, sandwiches. Yum. Average prices.
Great resource for various organic, vegan, and health goods. Reliable and consistent decades old
Love this place, visit every time I come to NYC, great sweets, friendly people.
One of the only places to yet Yeah Dawgs (gluten free hot dogs). They have a big selection!
One of the best grocery store in the city...with amazing choice of housemade vegan and raw food!
Great health food store if youre looking for hard-to-find ingredients!
It has a limited selection of fake meats. Though they make up for that by their great selection of vegan yogurts and other alternative dairy products.
Great for those ingredients specific to vegan cooking....
Great selection of food, and one of two places in Manhattan that sells Yeah Dawgs.
Worst Management ever. Jason, Stasia is going to run your business to the ground. Mark my words.
Gr8 selection of organic and natural foods and vitamins.
Nice whole foods place for organic produce and vegan friendly products.
The bakery is excellent I travel from Jersey just for it.
Good customer service on getting suggestions on healthy products.
Favorite grocery store in the area. There is a deep selection of organic and non-gmo foods and the prices are very reasonable (especially for NYC).
Lovely selection of vegan foods (and bakery!)!
Good natural store. Fresh veggies are too expensive, but the selection is convenient
The Vitamin Guys, Joe, Tom, & Wayne, are the best! If you need a specific vitamin/supplement, they will go out of their way to help you 150%!
Great selection of organic and vegan items however, the cashiers seem apathetic and have a terrible attitude. I would rather go Wholefoods to buy my groceries.
