1st time since January 2021. Great. They had everything I need. Their hot food bar is very nice. Prices are kinda high, but during this time who isnt. The employees dont block the lane. And the cashier was very helpful. Its like night and day. Will be shopping here from now on.
It was 10:20pm on a Sunday night and I was shopping quickly thinking they were closing. It was just myself and another shopper left. When I got to the checkout register I asked the lady what time they closed. I had to keep asking her to repeat because I simply could not understand her with the mask on and she finally told me with the utmost negative attitude, 12 midnight. I told her i was sorry to bug her.
Very nice, and clean. We bought a birthday cake for our daughter while visiting. It was delicious!
Excellent value. Excellent harvest. Well-kept and well-organized. The staff is pleasant. My preferred retailer.
Probably the most disgusting rude staff I have ever encountered world wide. Not a positive New York experience and expensive! Avoid at all costs.
I come by here primarily since I live close by, and Im so glad its this market, everything I could need at any time, spacious, enjoyable, great hours, high quality meats or any product really, I could go on.Extremely valuable part of my life. However I do take effort to avoid peak times, easy for me but that can be an issue for those who arrive around 6pm-ish or other high hours.
Not always the best values but not Hudson Yards expensive (english muffins are never 2 for $5 😢😩) . Its always well stocked and super duper clean. Lines usually go quick.
Ordered two sandwiches at the custom boars head sandwich bar. Employees wore masks below the nose but had gloves on. When they asked me if I needed help, I said that I was still deciding, then they proceeded to semi-glare at me while I was still deciding. When I was finally ready, I placed my order for a 7-grain sandwich with turkey, mustard, lettuce, tomato and onion and she began prepping the food. All of the toppings were semi covered with a sneeze guard, however, the lettuce and tomato were very exposed with small signs acting as a temporary sneeze guard. While doing so, she kept checking with me if I wanted lettuce tomato and onion; and at the same time she was conversing with the other employee not putting her full attention on my order. Further as she was talking with her co-worker, she began swearing making me feel a but uncomfortable. When I requested it would be toasted, she kind of rolled her eyes then went to the toaster. She then asked me what I wanted for my second sandwich, in which I looked up to a board where a list of options was available, when she turned to me and said “don’t look at the menu, just point” to which saran-wrapped bread I wanted. I chose what I wanted on my sandwich and when it came time to add pesto to my sandwich, she headed downstairs with the same gloves to grab the jar of pesto. She was gone for about three minutes—when she came back she switched gloves then began scooping the pesto out of a Barilla pesto jar with a disposable plastic spoon that had only half of a handle. Later as she tossed me my sandwiches she said “enjoy”, in which I responded “thank you have a nice day”. Heading to checkout, the cashier was chatting with two customers who seemed like regulars, without regard to anyone else in a hurry. Overall for cleanliness I’d rate it a 4/10, for the boars head customer service a 3/10, for the cashier service a 5/10, but for taste 7/10. It wasn’t the best sandwich I had, but it was able to tie me and my group over for lunch. Pretty slow. Expected this to be a quick run into a food emporium located in nyc, but this quick stop for two decent sandwiches took about 20 minutes.
Unfriendly staff. I asked for help finding a product and the manager at customer service claimed to know the exact inventory at any time without (refusing to) even checking the system
Great Sushi! Its the topps! Plus they have bags, and the exits are clearly marked. And the floor is clean. And the staff is freindly, but trust me there is no contact. Plus, theres ice cream all over the damn place. I love it! I love it!
A little expensive for my taste but its full service and it nourishes me so I love it.
Great neighborhood supermarket. Associates are very helpful and pleasant.
Good prices, nice selection, just very little space to move around, specifically at peak times, and quite rude staff. Its my go-to supermarket in HK when I dont order groceries online. Just a note: never buy their meals cooked in-store. It looks good but tastes like plastic.
We were happy to go into a local store, and we got to meet and speak with Myriam! She was so welcoming and gracious. We are looking forward to being regular customers.
Very nice place to buy groceries and food, so clean recommended 100%., friendly people and kind.
Very nice staff.Food Eporrium has a bakery with delicious baked goods.Easy check out
This place is huge! And prices are very reasonable
Love this grocery store. Good selection, friendly staff.
The product is really bad and the prices are way higher than anywhere else. The only reason this place survive is because there is no real competition in the neighborhood…
I have gone to Food Emporium, its a very good supermarket, but I prefer Whole Foods => good, nice y cheaper
Given the volume of business this supermarket experiences, they do a good job with the selection of products they offer to the public. They occasionally run out of products. They probably should cut back on paper goods and cleaning supply offerings that many people now purchase online and expand the selection of ethnic foods, particularly Hispanic and Asian food options.
Produce is fresh, wide selection, decent prices.Staff members have nasty attitudes at times but hey...this aint Whole Foods. Keep your head down, grab your groceries, and leave.
Always pretty well stocked...Go there for essentials as they have what I need and prices ok for the area. Staff arent very friendly though. Only a couple say hi.
The manager Steve is a very nice guy. Most of the employees are very nice. Very good prices on the products.
Great Store and Friendly hard working employees.
Good experience. Employees need to smile more often.
Have alot of stuff lill but good stop to buy food stuff
Fresh food clean stores and everyone is nice
Prices are really high, but the store is clean and the employees are helpful. Not exactly a place Id shop at, though, just because the prices.
Nice clean well stocked store. I got all the essentials and I was in and out with the help of their friendly staff. Like the Terminator...Ill be back!
If I could give zero stars I would. Extremely overpriced and the staff is exceptionally unhelpful and has no clue where anything is. I have been repeatedly disrespected in this store from attempting to return unopened paper towels (mistaken for toilet paper) and being refused due to COVID (I understand food but paper products??) and then again today with the refusal to accept my payment method.Upon locating all of my items in the store and taking them to a self-checkout register I scanned all of my items. My payment method was a gifted virtual debit card, upon having issues finding a way to enter the card number into the self-checkout register I requested help from a store employee. The employee told me it was not possible to enter a card number to pay. I requested a managers help. The manager, Efrain Santoni, arrived and asked what he could help with. When I explained the situation he looked at the employee who told him it was not possible. He then repeated the same thing back to me. The manager was clearly uninformed about the processes of the company and payment methods. When I requested that he try to find a way for me to pay in this manner he told me I said it wasnt possible. Do you have another way to pay? in which I insisted that this was a legal and appropriate way to pay and insisted that he at least attempt to look at his computer system and determine how to complete my transaction. He refused to find any way at all to help me and when I said Thank you, youve been incredibly unhelpful you can go now he said Yes, Im the manager so I get to leave whenever Id like and hovered over me as I attempted to find a way on their computer system to enter in a debit card number until I was forced to leave.I would advise to avoid this company and this store as much as possible. All of the staff is rude and when you ask them a question its as if youre the biggest burden in the world to them, even though its their JOB.
Awesome food market, great selection of cheeses if your a cheese head like myself. I live local so enjoy going here for my grub
Excellent place to shop!
My neighborhood grocery store. Better than nice, variety of food and goodies.
Always fresh food!
It is something that there are no words to explain. I dont know how they hire worse people. The attitude they have. If you asks a question they get upset or see you on the line and ignore you and do not attend you, I had that experience with a Hispanic.
Not worth it ... Go to BIg Apple on 42nd ninth ave. Prices here are too expensive. They only lower prices when items are about to expire.
Ive been here a few times and every time I am over-charged on multiple items. This time it was feta cheese with a 3.99 sticker that says 6.99 on my receipt and a clamshell of baby kale that says 4.99 that I was charge 5.49 for. What gives, Food Emporium? Maybe you should stop stickering products if you are just gonna up-charge randomly. Im starting to feel like this is a regular practice in some NYC grocery stores, which is really uncool.
Great selection, and you can always find a sale / bargain on many items. Not to mention the staff is VERY helpful and consistently a great help all the time if you have any questions, product choices etc.Luckily you have self checkout here and Never had to wait in line because they have multiple self checkout machines which is nice to see especially living in the city.Oh and the supermarket Bakery is strategically placed right by the entrance doors, so once your in the market its hard not to walk away from the delicious fresh baked treats and the delightful aromas drawing you in to them lol 😀
The employees here are very impatient and hostile when we ask for help, even we speak in a very polite and friendly tone. The self checkout machine is very difficult to use. Also, the items here are overpriced.
I very rarely give a place a negative review, but food emporium deserves 0 stars. This place is the most grossly overpriced supermarket Ive ever been to in Manhattan. Unfortunately, this is the only supermarket within a few blocks of me. For example - a 1LB of Salmon at food emporium is $13.99, at Whole foods in Bryant park its $10.99. The cheapest single roll of paper towels is $3.99 and a pack of 6 is around $20, at the Walgreens near port authority you can get a pack of 6 rolls for 4.99. A Noosa Greek Yogurt at food emporium is $3.49, at Whole foods its $2.19 when not on sale or 5 for $8 when on sale. A tube of Optic white renewal toothpaste is $11! At Walgreens it is $3.99. The only decent prices Ive seen on products here is on Chicken thighs and kombucha. Things are very rarely on sale here and if they are its something like 50 cents off a $10 product. If you care at all about how much you are spending please avoid this place so they can close and a better super market can take its place. Thankfully Target is just a few blocks away now. Also, I have had a handful of negative experiences with employees here, but I really wouldnt care about that if this place wasnt so overpriced.
Time is good - open till midnight. The food is good too, except it has to meet higher then regular price limits due to higher rent costs in that area I suppose. So with convenience you will sacrifice some dollars. Selection is quite good - you can actually find a variety of each kind of item there. Recommend to visit and take a ride on an escalator!!
The store has top quality food but its expensive
Good for quick shopping of groceries and reasonably priced especially for New York City
Let me start by saying, I will never consume from this supermarket ever in my life. The staff here are so rude, and never smile. I’m sorry now one told you to throw away your life at a supermarket. Get an education. the tall West Indian “man” walks around the store like he’s the owner. The chinese supervisor acts like he’s doing me a favor by shopping there. Disgusting! He also has some racist tenancies. I am mortified by how they can have such people working in customer service. It’s a disgrace! And this is normally during the evening hours!!!
Good local stop for all supermarket needs note there are two entrances. One on 42nd and one on 43rd
Great service, variety products, excellent prices.
This place is really bad. The employees there act like they are doing you a favor by doing their job. As a matter of fact they barely have any service anymore. They mostly have self checkout where you do their job for them and they just watch you. I prefer to take a stroll to wholefoods a couple of blocks where the people are more professional and actually do their job.
Pies bake free daily
Not all, but they have rude cashiers, i live in the neighborhood and its a shame they are not doing anything bout it, i called once to let the manager know, He just said oh shes done so much for the company so not a surprised why they act like that, Maybe the owner should know their attitude towards customers ...i cant wait till Big Apple Market and target to open so i dont have to deal with them.
Good selection in a convenient location inside the Hells Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan.
Great/varied selection of food but insanely high prices. Good place to shop when you are looking for a particular brand or variety....not recommended for a big shop. FreshDirect is cheaper and delivers for free with a pass.
Everything is about $1 or $2 more then whole foods
Rude unprofessional incompetent staff. I was accused of being a theft. The store manager did nothing to assist the situation. All he did was esclate it. Waste of time and money
They have the worst manager I have ever talked to. Very hostile and offensive. I was talking really nice/civil to them and they wont let you finish the sentence and yelling at you with additude. NO other managers in NYC ever treated me this poorly. Also happend to my girlfriend as well. I will never buy anything from them ever again.
So much fresh produce! Supreme among most markets
Expensive and unfriendly. Bad selection and only go here in desperation. Terrible manager. Always barking about red line, when theres many red lines...
Clean nice and efficient
Great smaller supermarket in the hesrt of the city with fair and reasonable prices. Extremely helpful and understanding staff. I was impressed with the quality of fresh produce as well as the freshness and quality of meats.
Nice in Manhattan when you still see a large full-service grocery store like The Food Emporium...
Easy navigation nice to have the self checkout.
This is a decent sized store by midtown Manhattan standards. Its clean and has nice assortment of basics and gourmet items. The service is friendly and quick check out.The reason only two stars is theyre super expensive. Its pretty bad when basic items are 30% 50% and even double the price of Whole Foods or even a Fairway. Theres also not many items on sale. At least Fairway and Whole Foods has good sales.Overall, its a decent store if you dont mind exorbitant prices. Its a very poor value when you can get better produce, meats, and basic items at Whole Foods for 30 to 50% off the price.
First time there great selection good prices
1 non-organic orange costs $2. Every items costs more than Whole Foods but bad quality.
The food emporium in 43rd near 10th ave in nyc has the nastiest women customer service workers!! The ones that work in the late afternoon and early evening. They need more teaching in how to treat human beings!
No cheap and not espensive, fair prices, clean place, extense list of items, there is a lot of variety, you could find what ever you are looking for.
Walked into here earlier today and noticed flies inside the plastic packaging of apple caramel sticks. Then after buying lettuce, I found another fly near the stem as I was peeling the individual leaves to make a salad. This place is simply just grimy and needs to be cleaned more.
Lets be honest. Any grocery store is going to be a pain in the butt when youre living in Manhattan. Still, this place is definitely convenient and generally not overpriced. The veteran staff is very competent and helpful, but the newest cashiers (as anywhere) should be carefully monitored as they bag your food... bread underneath a gallon of milk doesnt make for a great surprise when you get home.
Good and always fresh produce. A bit on expensive side compared to other stores which is ok for the freshness. Good range of meat selections is available. You have self checkout and store so open till 12am which is a place for late night people.
Too expensive for ordinary stuff....
Cashiers and stock employees need to be people friendly. No smile, no good morning l, straight up long face as the world owed them something.
I enjoy the zero human interaction required to shop here. Good selection.
They have the best sandwiches ever. So good I took one home just meat and cheese. I got home and was able to make two sandwiches. Clean, bright, friendly and a wide selection. Oh yeah Im from Philadelphia
People here are so nice. And it does matter to me to have a local place where I know everything and the people here know me. Been away for a month, and missed my local super market.
Very nice lady Samira who works at the Cake shop section was super helpful, she went above and beyond to help me get the best cake that was beautiful as well as super delicious. She is a great example of a leader and a kind human being. Food emporium has Very reasonable prices, very good products and very large collection to choose from.
I wish their fresh produce was a bit more affordable.
Enter from either 43 Rd street or 42 ND Street. Very helpful. Seniors Specials on Tuesday and Thursday.
Big store and has everything you could possibly need if youre looking for groceries
Good quality, nice to have in the city, prices a little high but youre in New York. Can always count on running over to find whatever ingredients you forgot to pick up for dinner or any meal.
Send your gmail id
Cashiers are so mean. They made me put my food back in my cart because she could not see both line
Apparently they dont do returns of anything even within 24 hours. This is the place where customer service went to die.
The staff was friendly and helpful. Lines and waits were not a big issue at all. They sometimes have good weekly deals, and are open until midnight. The only way I could see it being better is if they were open 24 hours.
Employees could care less that they are there. Cant wait for the Target and Big Apple Market to open
I like shopping here as its a neighborhood small grocery store and we need more of those. Fairly fill service with salad bar, in store bakery, in store hot food and deli, fresh seafood area. Prices are high, but watch for sales, and for the handsome shoppers up and down the aisle.
Clean well stocked very $$$
It’s ok when you need something quick. But their prices aren’t competitive and not single person living friendly. Everything is meant for larger families or couples.
I like their salad bar, they are fresh and well made. The variety of food is also good. But cashiers service can sometimes be sketchy. Check out with food from salad bar with no offer of utensils, something that can be inconvenient if you didnt check and expect it to be automatic is not.
Convenient since Im across the street. They have pretty much everything. Almost never have sales. If they do have a sale its usually something you dont need. Slow in keeping up with new trends, like low carb beers. They always run out.
I ordered groceries to my office in midtown and received them in 40 minutes.
Pretty solid prices and selection, though I still wish there was a Trader Joes in the area
Love this place. They always have what I am looking for.
They are alright a bit expensive but has good quality products.
Clean friendly environment and good food
