Garden of Eden is an incredible store. I have ordered from them a few times for delivery and they are amazing. I had an issue with one delivery, which was not their fault at all, and they went out of their way to try and correct it. Just amazing. And they have such a great selection of items as well. Highly recommend them. Extremely friendly people as well. Cant speak highly enough about them.
Great selections for charcuterie and baked goods! Also lots of ethnic foods and cooking ingredients. Amazing buffet in the back of the store, and tons of gluten free options! Love it!
Just saw the lady behind the seafood counter with her feet propped up on the table clipping her toenails...
Produce is fresh and high quality. Selection is limited.
I placed a grocery order online for delivery. They were supposed to deliver between 6 and 7 PM. They never showed. An hour later there was an email message apologizing for the delay and the order would be there ASAP. It never showed. Now the next day and I won’t be home for grocery delivery. Their phone rings busy continuously. There is no way to cancel the order.
Great selection but it just keeps getting more and more expensive. Since when is a medium sized jar of salsa $9?
This place is overpriced, the management is incredibly rude, and the food is expired. Do not for the sake of your health or wallet shop here. West side market is all around better and you won’t get food poisoning from them.
Good service and quality produce and fish
This has been my supplemental Go-To Artisinal Market for Decades! The selection of fresh produce out of this world--not to mention the vast array of bakery delicacies along with the staple grocery list essentials with a gourmet-flair infusion! So, if you find that you have not had a chance to stop into your nearby market, but find yourself in Garden Of Eden Marketplace--all of your shopping needs and THEN SOME will definitely be met!
Again-never write reviews but I am again for this place. I was shopping here and for the FIFTH TIME I CAME HOME AND MY FOOD WAS MOLDY. 5th time. I asked for a refund and the product because I was in the middle of cooking dinner and the manager said that “it was a distribution problem with the one product” and would not give me a refund. The thing is, this has happened to me with their cheeses, vegetables, meat, pasta, and sauces. Essentially, anything they package themselves the label is wrong and the food is expired. Do not waste your money here or risk your health. I will be reporting them to the department of agriculture.
Its closer to work than Westside Market.
Consistently great produce selection!
Small market; its ok but Westside market have more variety. Do your homework.
Basically, this is a good market. Its just super expensive.
This is my place to go when I want fruits and vegetables, when I come back from my walk with my daugther.
Went there today and found my kiwi, strawberry and blueberries
First time shopping here. Of course went with my children, they loved it! Think this will be our new go to market. As for the prices, I personally haven’t found prices that match the product until I came to this store. Your really only paying for quality here haven’t seen to many over priced items. Also a blind person could tell exactly what area of store they are in, with every turn delicious fragrant cheese, breads I was so pleased.
So I never write reviews but I feel like this is necessary to do. I shop here frequently and live in the area and am beyond frustrated with this store. Not only is it incredibly overpriced but I have received multiple items on it WITH MOLD over the past few months. Just yesterday I bought feta with the expiration date being January 12th and when I went to scoop some out, the underside was covered in mold. This has happened to me multiple times. Just last week I bought packaged habanero peppers with the expiration date being later than when I bought them and they were also covered in mold upon opening. It is disgusting and this place should be looked at by dept of agri. for their quality of food for the amount of times this has happened to me from them.
One of my favorite markets in NY. Produce quality is tops. Great variety. Always fresh & available.
Very good marketplace fair price and Good quality highly recommended
Shopped today for red bell pepper and beefsteak tomato. Cashier said that when she came in, twas drizzling rain. Heroine and hero workers for NYC. Inv. 00210171 Transaction at 12:07:22 Cecilia. Thank you!
The selection of products of this market is very good. Its the only place around this area where I found Auricchio provolone cheese.
Love this grocery story. It is such a inviting place to shop. Often it is cheaper that Gristidies and has much better selection. Everyone is really friendly too!
Nice store super warm staff they have every thing you need . Good job 👏 👍
I love this place even more than my wallet hates it. Expect to pay through the nose for produce and packaged meat. The Garden of Edens strength comes from their house-made products. The meat and fish counters are of the highest quality. Their prepared buffet and even the sushi is phenomenal. And above all, their crumb cakes (across from the fish counter) are beyond phenomenal. Combine that with the welcoming, helpful staff and the calming classical music they play and youve got a fantastic market.
Beautiful place with some gourmet items offered, but too many items are very pricey. The wide array of fresh fruits and vegetables are priced fairly. Nice baked goods.
Extremely courteous cashiers and generally very fresh fruits and produce. Sometimes there are great sale prices on organic vegetables. A place to go for quality fruit freshness, but pick and choose carefully as some of the prices are quite high.
Very nice store
Always a pleasure. Great selection and welcoming staff.
The staff is incredibly warm and friendly, theyre always willing to go the extra mile to find something you need. It feels more spacious than many NYC markets, and that extra room to navigate the aisles is really useful. Their deli bar is wonderful if you need a quick side in a hurry, and their student and senior discounts are very generous.
I find the items that Im interested in such as bananas, carrots but no more yummy reiner cherries nor did I see donut peaches which were delicious. Theyre a little pricey but worth it.
I asked a man working in the vegetable section to please raise his mask while I pass by and he refused. A manager asked him for me so he raised his mask until the manager turned around then he completely took it off. I tried to stay away from him but ran ibto him again as I tried to get thru the aisle and asked again if he would please raise his mask just for me to pass by. He laughed at me and said shop somewhere else. I left a whole shopping cart of groceries behind and went to a different store. I guess I wont be back to Garden of Eden.
It’s heartbreaking to see what has happened to this store as of late. I have been a loyal customer for three years. During the past several visits, I have been belittled and derided by the male bakery clerk on Sundays for no apparent reason. For nearly three years, the bakery staff were friendly, jovial and caring towards me and the other customers. I don’t think I can bring myself to shop at this store any longer... it’s just too painful of an experience.
The casier is so rude and use the word curse me. Always talk with others not care the customer. I wait long time when she finish talk.
Very nice variety of food
Love this well stocked place
Really impressive market. We prepared spaghetti and cake slices for dessert. Very good. So many choices of pre made food available for late night snacking.
Another nice gourmet market UWS! Recommended
They have this coffee called go Uganda’s coffee it’s the best coffee. I will buy it again I have never found it anywhere else, and also they have fresh Fruits and groceries at a reasonable price.
Cozy shopping experience with a friendly and helpful staff..
Great grocery
This has been my primary grocery store for years, but I can no longer justify the expense. $7 for a bottle of corn oil? There appear to be fewer and fewer customers in there every year, and the owners seem to compensate by continually jacking up prices. They might try improving their products selection instead. I understand that its a small store, but they make some pretty strange stocking choices. The wall of functionally identical olive oils, for example, seems an extravagance.
I ordered groceries including a sirloin steak. The steak was not fit for human consumption. It was NOT a sirloin but some other type of meat. This store has really gone down hill but I suspect they ripped me off advertising this during a crisis. Stay away from these guys.
Unique selection, mostly quality and health stuff.
Great assortment of market supplies! A lovey place to get lost and find new items to bring home
My Favorite place to shop.
Visited the Upper Westside location and was disappointed with the lack of maintainance. The location on East 14th st is the prefered location.
ZERO STARS. The Asian cashier who served me this morning was very rude and nasty simply because I asked for a plastic bag. I had been coming in five days a week for months, but theyll never get another penny from me.
Very lovely market
Great prices and variety
Expensive but a great variety of food. Lots of European specialty food and good fresh fruit and veg. Deli counter is great and makes sandwiches (soda included.) Fresh fish also available here.
This store sells rotten fish. Granted great layout, friendly service, and generally good quality stuff but at the end of the day none if this matters if you are going to sell a shoddy product and then refuse to apologize.Yesterday I bought a whole fish (red snapper) from this store along with a small piece of tuna. The tuna was fresh but when I unwrapped the red snapper I suspected it was not. I cooked it none the less but one bite in I was overcome by a pungent and sour taste. The fish was decidedly rotten. Now I understand, quality control errors happen but when they do I expect 1. an apology and 2. appropriate compensation. When I explained my story today to both the manager and the fish guy, I was given neither an apology nor a refund. Both rudely questioned my intentions and I walked out of the store without an apology or my 20 dollars back.Even if this is just a one off mistake, they way the store handled it is indicative of some serious problems. They swindled me with a shoddy product, hopefully you wont make the same mistake. Go to west-side market or literally anywhere else. At those places they dont serve rotten food and the service I presume is at least passable.P.S: Also, I almost forgot, the funniest thing about this whole debacle is that the fish section still had fish which looked rotten and were at minimum not very fresh (cloudy eyes, limp browning flesh, and funky smell). I mean, come on.0/10 would not recommend
Overrated. Overpriced, even for NYC. Horrible staff too. You dont matter. Just suffer through the TINY aisles and try to find anything. Good luck with that.
Clean with lots of products, though not to friendly
Very nice place for groceries. They have fresh produce and very helping staff. Columbia students get discount by showing their ID cards.
Compact Manhattan grocery. Store is clean and well organized with s nice fruit and vegetable section which has suprisingly good prices for Manhattan
As many other reviewers have noted, its badly overpriced. Some of the prepared food is OK, some is flat disgusting (Ive had to throw out stuff from the salad bar that Id just bought). Nice concept, mediocre execution. Some ok employees, but some are surprisingly rude.
The staff is very nice and cordial. They make u want to come back like CHEERS Sometimes u wanna go where everybody knows ur game. And their always glad u came u wanna go where people meet. U wanna go where everybody knows ur game.
The service at this store gets worse by the day. The folks behind the fish, cheese and pastry counter basically ignore customers until you demand service. The cashiers, though, are very nice, so go figure why they have such apathetic employees manning the food area. I have walked out a few times tired of waiting for someone to take care of me. I just walked out again tonight and headed for West Side Market on 110th Street where the service is much better and friendlier--including the cashiers.
Excellent customer service, friendly cashiers. Prices a bit high for groceries.
Great little grocery store for staples, the brands always change so if you love something write it down. Great staff, so fast and friendly, I almost never go anywhere else
Fantastic produce and nice selection of specialty foods.
Cute grocery store, but its simply too expensive! Vegetable section small, cheeses unremarkable, and yet: virtually anything you buy here, you can buy less expensively elsewhere.
This is a great supermarket, stocked with organic and fresh products. Very large, fully stocked, offers online shopping, and very helpful staff. Whether you are looking for all organic meat to salad dressings, this place carries it.
Great local store
Sparkling clean. Good selection. Abundant fresh fruit in bins, outside and in.
Salad bar is great! The manager will follow you like youve stolen something.
Love salad bar. I would personally like to see more chicken wings
Personable and speedy service
Good food and as the name suggests, so many types of vegetables and fruits. Also have vegan cakes!
GOOD QUALITY PRODUCTS
Excellent choice of fresh fish. This is my go to store for fish.
Good merchandise
Neighborhood market with excellent produce and gourmet foods. Salad bar, hot foods, sandwiches, deli et al. Management always accommodates requests.
Not sure about the rest of the store but they have amazing scones for only 2 dollars and a breakfest deal that comes with coffe for 2:50 the staff is incredibly nice as well i cannot recomend this place enough it saved my mornings
Great variety. Fresh Salads and Sushi. Great Deli and prepared food.
Grossly over priced ... they charge 13.99 for garbage bags 17.99 for raos tomato sauce that wholefoods has 7.99! Most veggies are not organic but priced as if . Your better off to eat out and get served . I also Twice I bought meat for diner that was rotten on the opposite side. I threw it out and the y would not give me my money back unless I brought it in. So I was to bring it to work with me all day and then bring the rotten meat in to their store. Argh ...It’s a money pit
I love going there, its a wonderful experience and everyones so helpful
They have a good selection of quality food overall but it is a bit on the higher priced side. The fruit quality is fantastic though.
Expensive
Large store with a huge selection of gourmet items! Meat and vegetables are really fresh and huge variety.
Great little grocery store, interesting selection, some excellent prices, stock changes often
Expensive, Westside Market has more varieties and better prices.
Lots of diverse products and fresh food. Great selection of cured fish.
Excellent
My husband and I have been coming to this supermarket on a weekly basis for 3 years now. The produce quality is good. The food is pricier than other supermarkets in the area, but we live a block away so it is worth the convenience. You can also get 10% off if you have a student ID or a garden of Eden card.Despite its convenient location and good produce quality, the staffs unprofessionalism and attitude makes shopping at this supermarket an unpleasant experience. Some of the cashier staff are very rude- they dont greet you or smile or say anything at all other than the total price. I have also seen the cashier staff giggling behind the counters and too busy with their own phones or conversation to call the next customer and keep the line moving. A few weeks ago I even saw a cashier crouched down hiding while watching a movie on a tablet. This is very inconvenient after a long day when I just want to pay for my groceries and go home. Despite being annoyed by the cashiers behaviors, I continued to come to this supermarket because what the heck! Whats life without a good laugh? The cashier girls are young, hopefully theyll learn to be professional some day.My experience today, however, was the straw that broke the camels back. My friends and I are planning a surprise birthday picnic for our mutual friend and I was responsible for purchasing the cake. I took a picture of the cakes to send to the girls so that we could decide together, and right away a staff member who I believe must be the manager, told me not to take any pictures. I explained my intentions to him, and he repeated himself, this time with an attitude. I said I was there to buy a cake, not steal his ideas. And he told me it was just business. I have no interest in the baking industry, nor in coming back to this place. Unfortunately I was too tired from my long day to go to west side market, so I bought the cake anyway, however, I will not be returning. Ill stick to fresh direct and west side market, which have better prices, friendlier staff, and equally good food quality.
Great selection but high prices
Clean, fresh and great variety of food prepared to take away
Extensive selection and great staff. Best fish selection in the area.
Its iigh. The cheesecake was super wack.
Great selection of cold cuts and seafood. $2 off on sushi after 6:00pm... sushi for dinner it is! ;-)
Loved to shop here BUT NOT online. Their site is disgraceful! I was glad to learned that they have this kind of service. Just shopped here. After entering all my required informations in order to complete the purchase, the site was just keep processing and of course doesnt gives you the status of my order. I refresh the site and do it again but same problem occurred. When I checked my bank account the two re runs I did was both taken out. Hope the management fix their site.
Always fresh muffins and bread.
Vegetables and fruits are not expensive but everything else is
What a great find that we happened to cross. filled with great treats for the pallet.
Interesting choices of food. High quality.
Only place I know on Manhattan that has Turkish Merve Yogurt and labne (like sour cream but not sweet you eat straight) and cheapest place in Manhattan to get Ayran. Only truly sour yogurt I know besides coach farm.
It is best possible gourmet store in upper west side
I love their bakery section.
