Sure, the cashier was rude and incredulous when I asked how long the store has been open, but so what?! Im just sorry I didnt discover this store on previous trips, including when I was staying at a dive hotel in Murray Hill in 2010! Its a really fun shop to browse and I would have bought more if I had room in my suitcase! I bought eight items, a few of which were for my daughter for the grand total of $15.49 including tax. If I lived in NYC, you better believe Id be frequenting this intriguing store at least once a month!

I shouldnt raise awareness of this GEM. Shop here and save on everything you need, want and didnt know you needed or wanted. All to a soundtrack curated by the proprietor who should be a DJ - so good you stay longer. The staff is so sweet and helpful that this discount store is the only overstock cosmetic store to shop - brands from high to low end and a secret cheese and housewares section in the back!Too good

Love love love this store. This is truly a well-kept NYC secret. I wouldn’t have found this store if I wasn’t working next door. During my break I take a quick look around the store just looking for deals or pretty things. They have great brands for the best of prices. Beauty, skin care, hair care, gourmet food, home decor - they have it all.

You can actually test the name-brand foundations and concealers prior to purchase on their giant wall mirrors. Also, the prices are at least 25-50% what I would pay at other stores. Not really seeing a downside here. Also stocks skincare, makeup bags, and some random toys for some reason. Not every color of every brand is available, but what they do have is very pretty and versatile for almost all skin shades and types.

This is my go to spot for holiday & birthday presents. Despite the name, they offer much more than cosmetics. Ive been able to find great buys like a folding hamper, replacement ear buds, umbrellas, tablet holders, Xmas decor, pot holders, vases, nose hair trimmer, swiss army knife, cookies and this place has the best selection of picture frames in town. I can get gifts for several people and stay within my budget. This is a great spot to buy beauty products and other things that I would normally skip at other stores because of the prices. Love this spot.

This is a place where you enter, you browse the individual aisles, and if you like what you see, you pick it up, pay for it, and be on your merry way. This isnt a place for customer service (expect for when you need one of the guys in the back to reach for something thats too high). You see something, get it because it may not be there when you return. Dont ask if they have something in the back. This isnt the store for it. The cashiers in the front let you shop in peace. Thank goodness.If you need hand-holding, if you have to ask a lot of questions, there are other stores for that. This isnt it. This is for people who know a good deal when they see one.This place has great products (lots that have been discontinued or market packaging has been updated) at really great prices. What more do you need?The aisles are narrow because the store tries to carry as much as possible in a small space. If someone is in your way, just politely say excuse me and move on through.Designer brands, stuff for kids, cookbooks, small kitchenware, and of course cosmetics. This is a NY treasure.

I love Cosmetic Market! Such an affordable place for any of your brush and makeup needs. The first time I was at this place there was a short line outside. But luckily today, my friend and I just marched right in. The staff was friendly and helpful always asking us if we needed anything. There was a huge line to check out but it ran smoothly and paid for my stuff faster than expected.

I bought a chocolate there. It was all covered in mold. horrible. When I came in expecting an apology and explanation, the sales girl, who cared less, said: Its not her problem. Total shame. Such place has no place in Midtown Manhattan and has to be thoroughly inspected. I bet they print their own expiration dates and sell fake products!!!

This place is like outlet for cosmetics. They sell combination of unknown brands and famous brands. For well known high-end brands, they sell only SAMPLE sized items(which are actually not meant for retail sale) and some of them are discontinued ones. So they are soon to be expired or already expired...They sell some other stuff at the back and some item was really good (like german chocolate) and cheap.

I been here a couple of times since I work fairly close. The shelves are usually always stocked, organized and clean. A bit before closing time, you see an employee walking down the aisle cleaning. Although, be sure to go before closing time, cause the employees tend to have a bit of an attitude (more so one hour before closing time). The stock is constantly changing which is why if you see something you like, get it --- otherwise it might not be around the next time. They stock high end / drugstore brand makeup, nail polish, toys, random snacks, fragrances, home goods and random things you might only find at discount store.

The Cosmetic Market on E. 37th St is a great place to go if youre not mission specific. Do stop in to browse with the idea that youll find a great deal on something, but who knows what.The employees are hit or miss.One employee was standing at the mirror, I kid you not, popping her zits. Right in front of everyone, with her bare hands.It was pretty gross.

This is a really great place to stop by when youre looking for something specific and dont want too pay a lot. Or you just want to see what they have. Awesome prices. Decent selection of all things beauty. It is similar to an outlet, so it can be hit or miss. In other words, if you purchased something last month and you want to get it again a few months later it may or may not be in stock. After all, it is not like a Harmon Values or Duane Reade etc. I took off one star because the sales associates arent professional at all. Theres one or two that are pleasant. However, the others arent as nice as I think one should be when serving the public. Its simple, when the customer says, hello, the professional thing to do is say hello in return. This doesnt require a lot of conversation. Thats the first thing you learn in kindergarten. I find this type of behavior in a lot of New York retail places. Since my interaction with the sales associates are no longer than 5 or 6 minutes I still make the trip, but not as often as I would if the staff was a little less rude.

The store has a great selection of beauty products at discounted prices. I like that I am able to test most products before purchasing them.However, the women at the register were so nasty and rude. When I walked up to the counter they were busy talking n looking at their cell. I waited about 2 minutes, when I asked if I could pay. One of them strolled over, clearly annoyed,rang me up, didnt say a word, not even eye contact. Upon finishing, she barked at a woman next to the register are you ready!? This is a good place to make a gift kit or restock if you’re not picky. Unlike the positive reviews, I found very limited stock of quality brands. If you want CoverGirl, Revlon or L’Oréal eyeshadow, there are plenty of choices, but none even close to the colors I wanted. You won’t find many popular colors or foundation/powder for fair skin, and eyeliner was next to none in any color or style.When they have only one or two of an item on the sales floor remaining, they move in the glass cash register case with blue-tinted fluorescent lights. Not only must you hover under customers checking out to see it, but you can’t tell what’s in there or what shade it is. Don’t ask for something in either unless you already have a good relationship, you’re with an adorable kid, or bring in a toy canine! I kindly requested to see a particular item in the case, but the manager behind the counterreplied with one excuse after another: “Look out there instead. We have a lot of stuff,”, ending with “I’m sorry, I need to take customers checking out,” as she pointed to an empty line. A sympathetic cashier was patient enough to help me (thank you!)I won’t waste my subway fares to get here again, but I might drop in to replace a crystal nail file — those are a good price at a buck.

Yes, rude employees. Some good deals, a lot of junk to sort through. Selling samples and really old stuff, kinda like a garage sale. The owner/manager was showing an employee how to make boxes perfectly straight on a shelf, he would double his business if he taught them to smile and say hello and get off their phones.

What a weird experience. Made a special trip there when visiting from the UK as I had heard about the bargains you can pick up.It was basically a pile of damaged and useless product, amazed at how expensive it was for the quality.Cashiers were incredibly rude and ignored me until I asked to pay. Huffed and puffed through the transaction. Not pleasant.Went to Sephora straight afterwards and yes I paid a bit more but I got quality make up and stellar customer service.

This place is a make-up shoppers Paradise! The exotic background music they play sets the tone for a very pleasant shopping experience. I LOVE the wide and very inexpensive array of lipsticks, especially. I can usually find very inexpensive generic brands of skin care, but I find the name brands a little pricey, still, though I recently bought a nice toner by Borghese for only $5. Every item is tagged with the price and a security tag. They are meticulous here abut that, so youre never left wondering.The only major complaint I have is that the cashiers are always babbllng among themselves very LOUDLY and turning their heads away from the customer to laugh and talk with each other. It is most unprofessional and rude. The only one I will even deal with is the one who seems to have the most seniority, as far as asking about an item Im searching for.Lastly, I was disappointed that they did not carry Sally Hansens quick dry for nails, which is very expensive in other stores.

I shop here all the time and have no bad experiences, and also find brands that are 2 to 3 times as much in Lord and Taylor and other department stores.BIG CORRECTION: I had previously found the service here excellent, but today May 16, 2016, I found four new service people, all women, in the store, and all were impossibly rude and unhelpful. The woman who usually is in the aisles to help (a blondish, short woman of Latin origin) is gone and the one today was kneeling down each time I passed (three times) on her cell phone and when I asked for help just waved her arms. I went to the desk where everyone was rude, pointing instead of showing. When I said I cant find what Im looking for please show me, one did but with great reluctance and rudeness. Not sure Ill go back here again. Owner, please take note, your current employees will chase people away rather than bring them back. Horrible, horrible service.

Great prices on dubious, off-the-truck, mismatched, discontinued, low and high end cosmetic supplies and toiletries.Its like the Marshalls or TJ Maxx for makeup. If you search for half an hour, you might have a decent or amazing find. Or you leave with nothing.Some of the items are wrapped in larger containers, wrapped in packing tape or didnt have a box at all.Its great when you think of the savings (30-50%!)And sad when you look at the beautiful items sold without their luster.Similar to being sold MAC on the streets of Washington heights from a fold out table.I found Estee Lauder and Lancome creams, Tresemme shampoos, Burt Bee tinted chapstick, Burt Bee acne treatment and dead sea wipes and facial masks.I was skeptical of the creams. I care about my face and didnt want a dubious facial cream leaving a mark.Be careful when you buy and check the expiration date!So I bought the Tresemme shampoo and the tinted lip balm (for $3.99 instead of $6.69).The feeling of the place is off too.The cashiers arent friendly, they are just doing their job.The items are stocked haphazardly, as if a kid ran through the aisles knocking products over.Weird.I might come back for the thrill of finding a bargain.

They had a large selection of cheap nail polishes from different brands, escpecially the polishes from Essie were really prizeworthy; about $2.99 per bottle. However I missed some nail polish brands, like OPI.
