I def see why this is a must have NYC experience if u tryna experience that bagel life. Line long as hell but it’s def worth it for the experience. Workers sweating making hot, fresh delicious bagels with almost anything u want on them.I got the Lox (Salmon) Deluxe on an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese. I ain’t think it was the most delicious thing but it was an experience worth trying for sure!
5 stars bagels place. Really good bagels and selection. I recommend you come in and order instead of ordering online. Seems online orders take lower priority.
This was the best bagel we have ever had in NYC. We dont live there but every time we visit our breakfast is a different bagel with lox all the way and Tompkins Square Bagels knocked it out of the park. We were recommended to try them from the awesome staff over at Porto Rico Importers. The bagel was crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, and the stuff inside had a perfect ratio so you got all the flavors at once without any one thing overpowering. We took the bagel to Tompkins Square park and enjoyed it on a bench.
Can not get enough of these bagels!! With tons of vegan tofu spreads this is the perfect way to start the day especially on a lazy weekend morning. I don’t live in the city but I make sure to hit up Tompkins every time I’m here. The best addition to a toasted bagel with artichoke spinach tofu spread is a side of hot sauce to dip it in. I can’t wait for my next bagel from Tompkins :)
You order first, but then have to stand in line forever, and they put your order in before you get in line. This made me feel like they were hiding the line and forcing us to wait for nearly an hour to pay. Not clear why paying for your food is such a bottleneck here…Everything we ate was good, but they forgot the lox on my friends’ bagels (although we paid for them and waited an hour). Very disappointing, even though everything else was food. A bit too much cream cheese but good.
We stopped in on Labor Day. The line was long, but they were super efficient and it moved well for the number of hungry folks waiting! My husband had taken a spill on his bike on the way there and one of the employees made him an ice pack! I appreciated that gesture so much that the amazing bagels were just icing on the cake. Their everything bagel with bacon & scallion cream cheese is the best in the city. Run, don’t walk!
I think a meatlover would enjoy TSB a lot more than a vegan. That may sound obvious but there were a lot of raves about this place from vegans about the options they do have for us. The restaurant had a line almost out the door so I’m thinking the busyness led to overworked employees thereby sacrificing a bit of quality. The clerk was rude and rushed me which I get bc it was busy and he wanted to keep the line moving but it was a bit of a rude introduction to this place since it was my first time there, my bagel was cold, and they didn’t pack on the filling like they’re known for doing. I’ll have to try another bagel shop next time I’m in NY.
Friends raved about this place for so long, I’m kicking myself in the head for having delayed checking out Tompkins.Their French Toast Bagel was absolutely divine, and is already becoming a common craving of mine. And personally I really appreciate how they don’t ‘overload’ the bagel with cream cheese like some other places. The staff were super friendly and efficient about getting out everyone’s orders quickly. Whenever I’m craving a really good bagel, I’m going to be coming back to Tompkins!
Tompkins Square Bagels is a superb find that I would have never found without yelp. Phenomenal place and the prices are fair. Every single item that we have purchased was super fresh and delicious. The staff was attentive, swift, and extremely courteous. Overall excellent experience at Tompkins Square Bagels with friendly and accommodating service, will definitely return.
I loved the bagels here! I got an everything bagel with sundried tomato vegan cream cheese (made out of tofu in house) and it was delicious. Best vegan cream cheese Ive ever had. The order was made quickly, theres lots of great options here for everyone.
Went here for breakfast this morning and I was blown away by all the vegan options. All their sandwiches have a beyond meat option and they have lile 6 different tofu cream cheese spreads to choose from for bagels. I got the garlic spread and my friend got sundried. They even had vegan cookies! Will definitely hit this place up again when Im in the neighborhood again
I just want to say wow! I love bagels n this is definitely going to my top 5 list of bagel places in NYC. The staff is SOOOO friendly and lively, they also work together so great. The line was insanely long however I didnt have to wait more than 15 minutes to get my order. This place is awesome! The coffee was great too
Been here a couple of times for both breakfast and lunch. You can’t go wrong with the bagels. So fresh. The bacon egg and cheese is money. They have other options for lunch and you can every get deli meat / cheese to go. The inside is nice. Workers are friendly. Very quick. Prices are a tad higher than average but worth it for the quality.
The sandwiches seem to have high sodium content. I felt thirsty after eating them. After placing an order with a person and bringing a piece of paper to the cashier to pay, I didnt know how much I was charged for, and no receipt or number card that could help me get my food afterwards. There is no way to identify I am the owner of my food. You will need to safeguard your food and especially drinks next the counter after you pay for your meal, because someone else may take it, the staff may give the food to someone else who has the same name, or you just dont know if your drinks are ready. This can be solved easily on the restaurant side but they choose not to.They have accounts on some major food delivery platform, I would advise to use the menu there to help you decide what to order, but come to the store to place your order instead of using the delivery.----Their website and in store menu don’t do a good job introducing what they sell. For customers like me who is relatively new, it is hard to make a good choice. I spent $20 and felt I didn’t make the best of the money. They also have an account at Chownow, and the menu there is a lot more clear and with the price. I will give this store a second try.
Best bagel spot in the area. Line is always long, but moves quick. Worth the wait. If the bagels are fresh dont get them toasted.
Solid bagel spot with delicious food and reasonable prices. They are CASH ONLY which was a surprise to us, especially in New York. They have an ATM close if needed, so it wasnt too big of an issue. Staff was friendly and the space was nice. Tons of options on the menu. Homemade cream cheese blew me away.
My friends have been claiming, now I confirm. Best bagels in the city. I had the Scottish double smoked on an everything bagel. Just wow.Expectations were exceeded. And you’d think when it comes to bagels the differences are substantial.Service was great, prices are reasonable, place has a great atmosphere. They have two locations on east village, very close to where I live. I have some other bagel spots closer and this place is always worth the walk. This place has become part of my rotation. The coffee is also decent.
Bagels are underwhelming. Super crusty, not in a good way, and very bland. Came here at around 8 am, expecting to get a fresh, warm out of the oven bagel, but somehow my everything bagel was dry and seemed almost stale? Scallion cream cheese had about 3 little pieces of scallion. This place is mediocre and overhyped.
Second time Ive eaten at this location. I tried an egg, cheese and bagel sandwich and their cheddar jalepeno cream cheese on a pumpernickel bagel and both were delicious. Be warned this place gets packed on weekend due to their great reputation. They however are organized and move through the orders really well. Definitely worth checking out if in the area.
Great bagel spot. Got the weezer which was pretty nice and a really good bacon egg and cheese on everything. They fry the egg instead of scrambling it which makes it better than usual. Crazy variety of cream cheeses. Definitely not cheap. The line moves but took like 20 mins on a Sunday morning. Surprising amount of seats but it looks like it’d be tight with the line being right up against the tables. No outdoor seating. Cash only.
Visited this place after reading great reviews. Placed an order for two bagels with cream cheese and a sandwich. We kept waiting for food but nobody called our name while we were on the closest table. I went to get water after 20 mins and noticed a bag on the front that had our name. Bagels were cold by them. Place wasn’t crowded at that time. Employees were friendly however upon asking for water, the man at the checkout had a frustrated reaction and didnt fill our cups full and gave about two sips in each cup. The bagels were very average and were not cut properly. If it was a one off I understand but none of the bagels were toasted or cut properly. We had to stretch and cut by hand. It wasn’t a good experience and not worth the price.
The nicest people and the best service! I placed an order online and they told me they didn’t have the type of bagel I wanted. They refunded me, but I guess they were mistaken because they ended up delivering the bagel with a smiley face drawn on the wrapper- and they still didn’t charge me! For a popular bagel place, they’re still very focused on quality of food/customer service. Best bagel spot in lower Manhattan, hands down.
Bagels are fresh and delicious, wide assortment. Saw a previous review that said cash only but I was able to pay by card today so maybe they updated their system. Also got a turkey sandwich which was solid. Shoutout to the woman behind the counter for being patient with me through my confusing order. Overall great experience, will definitely be back.
Absolutely love this place. Operation is efficient, which is necessary when its this popular. They have gluten free bagels and gluten free cookies - great for the kiddos. Limited seating, but people dont stay long, so if youre patient, youll get a spot. Or, sit outside or in the park across the street in good weather. Coffee isnt the greatest, but thats not really why youre here, is it? Try some of the custom sandwiches or extensive selection of cream cheeses. You could come every day for a month and not run out of options.
Im always in search of a great bagel and in the traditional NYC standard there are a handful of exceptional joints. For me, this is unquestionably one of the best. The bagels are made on premises behind a glass window you can see while navigating the line. But that is actually fairly common in NYC. What stands out for me is the finished product. Perfectly plump and tender with a great crust. The mark of a truly exceptional bagel for me is one so well made that it tastes amazing simply plain. The ones are Thompson Square Bagels are just that. Great anyway you choose to eat them.
Great bagels (maybe the best) at a decent (not the best) price. Severs are helpful and kind. Most recently I did have over a 15 min was for a BEC bagel though (well below industry standards).
Chewy perfect bagel. How do they get all the everything seasoning on both the top and bottom half of the bagel? Mind blown. great service
By far the best NYC bagel I have ever had! I had the everything bagel with tofu veggie cream cheez and I will be dreaming of that vegan cream cheez for a while. The bagel was crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. They have a wide variety of tofu cream cheezes. Vegans will be very happy here. I sure was. And the staff was friendly and fast.
I’m not sure who’s running this place post COVID but they’re terrible! I place the same order, at this location, every weekend and every weekend they get it wrong. If they can’t get a simple avocado and tomato bagel right, I’m afraid of what else they’re incapable of. Overrated.
On of the best bagel spots in the city. Lots of different bagel options and cream cheese
Youll never find a better bagel or better people.
Bagels are out of this world, this place for sure has one of the best bacon egg and cheeses. Reason for 4 star is because one thing that I dont like is there is way too many people who come to this location and sometimes Ill just turnaround. I guess you can say its a good thing which it is but wish this location was bigger or had a second location for its huge clientele. Definitely recommend this bagel spot though 100% satisfaction. Great staff too.
My favorite bagels, my sister claims she’s had better in valhalla
Had to come try out a New York style bagel to compare it to the Montreal style. Tompkins Square makes a really great bagel, but it just doesnt compare to the Montreal style. But if youre in NYC, and you want a bagel, you wont be disappointed with these ones. I find the NY style to be much more bready and have a very different texture to the Montreal style.
I used to come to TSB a while back and switched to Black Seed Bagels. However, BSB quality has gone down a bit and TSB hasnt wavered at all. Their bagels are better than ever, and I cant wait to get my fill whenever I need a boost! Sometimes Ill even get a plain bagel to take home to eat with my lunch or breakfast. Other times, I let the experts do their magic with the tremendous variety of spreads and toppings that TSB offers.Highly recommend!
The bagel was good, but their online ordering system is broken and the service was offensive. The online system misdirected my order to a different branch, and when I came to pick it up they readily admitted that the mistake is on their end, but instead of just getting me the bagel that I ordered, they sent me instead to the other branch to get it myself. Seriously?!
Won’t be coming back here until they figure out a better system. Wait inside for 30-50 minutes, your bagel is cold by the time you pay for it. Or order online, have to wait an hour.Online ordering is faulty, they give you an “estimated” time, does not notify you when your order is ready. Could be done 30 minutes before the time they say. Both times I’ve come here recently my bagel orders have been messed up and the bagels have been extremely dry.
It was crowded, but for a good reason, and the line moves quickly. All your New York bagel needs right here.
Best bagels in the neighborhood. Get there early because the line gets long.
The people who work here are genuinely the best!!! The bagels are outstanding and the cream cheese is fabulous. I generally go for the walnuts and raisin cream cheese with the everything bagel. If you are around, definitely give this place a shot.
I don’t understand how a bagel can be this good
WAited 40 minutes for simple bagel. Wasnt even that good
The bagels here are really good and the service is fantastic as well. I do recommend to try this place out if you want to start the day right.
Good bagel but I was wayyy overcharged—the Weezer I got was listed at like 10 on the menu and I was charged 17 on my card.
Good food and great service.
So expensive, and unorganized. I waited 30 minutes for a soggy bagel with way too much avocado and I ordered a toasted bagel and it wasn’t even what I ordered. 10 dollars and a long wait. NOT WORTH IT
There is never a shortage of bagel shops in NYC, but finding one that serves up a great bagels is another story.Thompson’s Square Bagels serves up some great crusty yet chewy bagels and their cream cheese selections are great as well. We ate here almost every morning on our last visit. Definitely among the best in the city.
These are hands down the best bagels ever. My favorite thing to eat in New York City is an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese from Tompkins Square Bagels. The bagels are always fresh out of the oven, fluffy, chewy and wonderful. Both the fantastic food and great atmosphere make this one of the best bagel places in the city.
Great food. A little pricey and sometimes a bit of a wait.
Huge menu with a dedicated breakfast kitchen menu in the back of the restaurant as well. Almost every bagel + topping combo you can think of!
Stopped in for breakfast, didnt know what to get, and figured Id ask the man taking orders.Me: can you recommend something?Him: do you care about your health?Me, offended: NO!So I ended up with a bacon, egg, cheese on everything bagel slathered with scallion cream cheese.Best breakfast Ive had in a long, long time.
The bagels here is amazing and the service is always one of kind. They have a great selection and everything reasonably priced.
The best bagels ever!
The bagels here are wonderful but the customer service is AWFUL. They messed up our order two times in a row and after bringing it back a THIRD time were extremely rude about remaking it. Will be going to other bagel shops in the area.
Get coffee here all the time. Terrific
Great bagel place with a good variety of bagels and sandwiches. Got their espresso cream cheese and it was 👌. Their macchiato wasnt as great though.
Service was great, prices are reasonable, place has a great atmosphere.
Wow, after a week of bagels (I’m on my 9th bagel after 5 days in NYC), I have to say Tompkins has the best bagels so far. Light, crispy and yet chewy, this is what bagels should be. However they are very generous with the schmear; do ask them to go easy on it if you want your bagel with schmear and not the other way round!
