Nice espresso offering. Disappointed in the branding and name, lacking a more in depth look at coffee, while naming food options science pop references. Still, natural process Ethiopia espresso, really good, and given soda water to accompany the espresso is perfect. Seating area in the back is nice. Not being able to walk into the shop is also disappointing. Kind and fast service.
EDIT: We’ve come twice more since our first excellent experience. Each time things have been a bit disappointing. The first visit they were out of the bagel with pesto. They kindly apologized at the front, and the owner himself told me he was planning on making more. We’ve come twice more since and both times there’s no pesto bagel that’s listed on their menu. Disappointing. Today, during our third visit, we were met by two guys instead of the two friendly ladies that generally work the front. They didn’t greet us like before, and when I asked for the pesto bagel (for the third time this week) he told me to go out back where they’re having an event with bagels… what? Came back in after the bagel adventure for coffee. I ordered the Honey Badger, which I had the day prior, but was a bit too sweet. When I told him that this morning and asked for less honey, he told me he doubted it was the honey because it’s “naturally sweet” and that it was probably the vanilla. I didn’t ask for less vanilla. I asked for less honey. He gave me no vanilla and regular honey. When he was done making the drinks he wanted to make, he didn’t bring them to us like the other cashiers had two visits prior, or even call my name (he never asked… they did before tho and still brought them), so the coffees sat on the counter watering down, without a label to differentiate the difference between the two (bc one was supposed to be less sweet). Also, I was charged $26+ for two large iced coffees, but the menu said $7 EACH for the Honey Badger, so be aware of that.—————The everything bagel has the best seasoning ever. Perfect New York style bagel with chew and crisp outside texture… it is to a bagel what a good casing is to a sausage. IYKYK. The gimlet coffee - you’ll never taste anything like it. Get it. So refreshing. And the chocolate chip cookie is a masterpiece with chunky chocolate topped with the perfect balance of flakey salt. Everyone’s incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. I love this place. Day 2/7 in New Orleans and I want to start every morning with something from Coffee Science. Was so good I barely got a good photo before everything was gone.
Great espresso and super friendly baristas. Been going here for a long time. What motivated me to write this review though was the toilet paper. It’s probably the best toilet I’ve ever used in a public restroom. Will be back.
The raddest coffee in the city with the raddest folks in the best space. Thoughtful menu, everything prepared with care, local goods and Sunday farmers market if thats your thing. Also, very good cat.
Pro tip: If you’re out of large cups and someone orders that size, putting less ice in a medium cup but still charging them for a large is not the move. $14 for two medium light ice coffees is kinda wild. My bank has also notified me of “updated totals” like 3 times from them and it kinda sounds like people changing their tip amounts because I order the same thing every time. Cool place though and the baristas are really friendly.
Coffee is on the sweeter side as far as what was made for us. Aesthetics are a plus and local produce available which is awesome. They had a cat they described as having adopted to coffee shop not the other way around. They call him Cigarette. Hes wonderful and I referred to him as Mr. Ciggs.
The staff was super nice, everything was very clean and the atmosphere here is perfect for working or chillaxing too.I ordered the bavarian creme and my buddy ordered the venetian creme iced coffee. We both sucked them down fast. They were very silky and perfectly mixed between the sweet and coffee flavor.Great place. I definitely will be back for more coffee soon. Its worth the drive!
Trivia night was amazing! Highly recommend the Venetian coffee.
They make some of the best cups of coffee that Ive ever had!!
Out of the way from the touristy areas of New Orleans, but well worth the side trip, whether youre a local or out-of-towner. The food is excellent...we got a veggie sandwich and a turkey/pesto sandwich to go, plus king cake and a chocolate tart, and they were all excellent. Sandwiches were flavorful and filling. The king cake was a perfect mix of dough and the filling, plus tasty icing. The chocolate tart was incredibly rich! Staff was lighthearted, casual and fun to talk to.
Coffee is good, this shop uses local coffee and it switches up every now and then. Breakfast tacos are also yummy. Whoever renovated this house did a fantastic job, the place is beautiful. Also, the staff is super friendly and sweet. coffee science is definitely going to be getting a lot of business from me over the next year or so!
Really nice place and good service. I just wanted to review to note that theres no WIFI.
Just had one of the best cups of espresso Ive ever had from this place. So much flavor in such a small cup. And they do root beer too! Cant recommend this place enough, and cant wait to go back and try everything else. I hope they stay open a long time. Go get some great coffee and tell your friends!
A nice cozy place with trivia on Wednesday night!!
They enforce their policies, no service to anyone who does not have physical proof of vaccination and or negative covid test results. At least thats what I was told by the employees.
This coffee shop is so unique. In addition to selling incredible espresso, they offer local groceries and produce. They have adjusted very well for COVID safety with an outside walk up order window behind a plexiglass barrier. The espresso nebula is legitimately the BEST flavored espresso+milk drink I have ever had. For dairy free folks they can make it blended with coconut milk and it’s just as incredible as the original. Can’t wait to come try more amazing coffee at Coffee Science!
Great customer service and coffee. Will be back.
Great unique coffee experience plus a super friendly and helpful barista. I would definitely come again!!
Coffee Science is amazing! The coffee is great and on my visit today they were selling Covey Rise groceries and locally made masks. The level of engagement this buisness has with the local economy and people is amazing.
Coffee science is a 5 star experience for coffee lovers. Simple and minimal decore leaves room to focus on what matters most... the coffee. Now doing a good americano, espresso or latte is expected and they indeed do. However getting a Venetian cream right is a near impossible task. They are always too sweet and not strong enough, like some poor quality instant mix. However coffee sciences Venetian creams were the hilight of my trip to NOLA... that’s only a slight exaggeration. During a NOLA stay I made the trek out to Coffee Science three times to get a fix of another Venetian. Oh and the servers were very pleasant and knowledgeable.
Check them out! Coffee preparation, taste, and quality rival those of the best cafes in the country. Unique coffee offerings as well.
Lots of cool events and great coffee!
Great live music.
I love Coffee Science. They have always been friendly and kind. Coffee is amazing and I feel safe visiting even with the pandemic.
Great food, better coffee. Sundays they have a farmers market with some of the best local produce in town. Highly recommend.
Good solid cup of coffee
Cute location, staff seemed Somewhat harassed & like we were a distraction even though we were only ones. Coffee drink was far sweeter than expected & tasted like milk was used instead of alternative we ordered. Pastry sugary & too sweet. Coffee was alright. We wish them luck as it seems like maybe growing & Covid pains.
This restaurant has gold coffee you can get it hot or cold
Just so you know there is a parking lot accessable from around the corner on banks St. Otherwise its almost impossible to find a spot in this busy area. Got some great pateries from their local supplier (the mini frosted blueberry but cake was well worth the calories) a cortafo and a large Venetian cream. Great coffee and a great location. There is outside seating in the back and a large room inside if you need to hang out and work on wifi. Definitely worth a return visit. Plus the Kaldis nostalgia doesnt hurt.
The best Bavarian chocolate iced coffee Ive ever had. This guy knows what he is doing. New coffee spot for me. It is rare for me to review a place but im sipping on this drink and its amazing.
Sunday morning cool spot!
Sunday mornings for a Chaos Theory and some farmer market goods. Worth the drive and hunt for parking.
The mocha frosted is awesome! Its my new addiction!!
I have only tried their coffee and its FANTASTIC. Its so rich and has that great hipster sensibility.
Delicious coffee will definitely be back for more
Staff is so nice!! Farm baskets and great coffee. Love this place
Best espresso in town!!!! Employees are so nice, location is cool and convenient. Im mad at myself for not trying Coffee Science sooner!!!!
Just ordered delivery during the pandemic and was blown away with the excellent customer service and quality of food! the veggie box was far better than the other CSA boxes Ive had delivered, staff wore masks and utilized no contact drop-off, stayed in contact with me with text/email during the whole process, painless process with online ordering and door service. I got bread, eggs, tomatoes, strawberries, kale, salad mix, squash, salad greens, brussel sprouts, and sweet potatoes. Highly recommend Coffee Science for other purposes right now especially with how difficult it is to get groceries through Whole Foods and other retailers at this time. Courteous and professional staff! and yes their coffee/pastry is also delicious!
Wonderful espresso. Great decor. Nice they stay open til 7PM. The only problem is that I was there for 2.5 hours on Sat afternoon and the barista only played loud punk and grunge music. It was distracting and unpleasant. When I asked if she would turn it down, she would not. Again, wonderful espresso, but if youre looking for a nice chill ambiance to read or study, you might get a punk concert in your ear.
Incredible affordable coffee. Tom truly cares about the product he offers not only in his coffee but also the local baked goods and breakfast foods he offers. The coffee for starters is wonderful, the perfect cup for $2. He used local roasts and yesterday I had a French Truck cup that was only $2... at French truck, you’d get it for $4.The vibe is also great for getting work done. Highly recommend this NOLA coffee shop.
Great coffee and outside atmosphere with delicious food options.
Awesome coffee and friendly service! The owner has been in the coffee business for years - his passion and knowledge are obvious. Deceptively large space including a front porch and back yard, nicely renovated and very clean. Definitely one of our favorite coffee spots!
Certainly felt like the spot to be. Fantastic food and brew. They had an option for coffee and another for espresso, which simplified the ordering. They have an array of brewing techniques for you to choose from. For someone with 3+ years professional kitchen experience, I was thoroughly satisfied with the staff and service.I was also fortunate enough to stumble into the sunday brunch opening (1/26). That Cajun Benedict was the bees knees. Looking forward to the next experience.
Very good pour-over coffee and pastry (choc. croissant). Breakfast burrito was just okay. Nice ambiance. Staff was attentive, if a bit aloof. Definitely worth a look.
One of the best coffee houses in New Orleans. Want to ask questions about coffee, these guys can answer them all! I enjoy trying to find the right flavor for my simple black coffee, but they can do complicated latte thing too. They have lots of quiet space to work, a front room for louder conversation, and a big back yard. Ask about their pool parties...
Im a little embarrassed by how long its taken me to review this place when its one of the most exciting and best additions to the New Orleans coffee scene in the last year. The coffee is great - even a basic drip is much more than basic. The venetian and bavarian creams are particularly delightful and unique coffee drinks found here. They run a tad sweet so I dont usually get them but when I do its a real treat. The interior space is really nice and theres a backyard if you want to hang out and get some fresh air. They do have a parking lot which is convenient unfortunately youll often get blocked in by an inconsiderate neighbor. Both times thats happened thought the staff has been very responsive and helpful.Even though I dont live nearby I do enjoy coming here a lot. They have a great little shop that manages to serve killer coffee without being pretentious and the employees seem to actually care if youre enjoying yourself. Its a great spot to study, get work done or just catch up with a friend. As they expand their food options I cant wait to see in what new and exciting directions they grow.
Fantastic coffee, wonderful staff and fair prices.
Great flat white coffee. Shame we have to order and wait out in the street
You will be surprised how much space they have for people who need to study or having meetings. Nice place, coffee is good. Also, I appreciate their small food menu, studying makes you hungry!
Great local coffee shop. I mainly get regular black coffee. Hearty breakfast tacos are available for breakfast. Plus they have pastries from Gracious Bakery. There is a parking lot of off Banks street that can be a little tricky so parking on Broad street is what I usually do.
Drip coffee is exceptional here. I can tell that some thought goes into it. The shots are consistently pretty smooth and on par with some of the best places in town. Havent tried their food. Their pastries seen to come from Gracious, which is straight fire.
Great new New Orleans Coffee location. Coffees from multiple Roasters all locally sourced. Dedicated to consistency in the Brew with great batch brewing and espresso. Pastries and light snacks available. Owned and operated by Tom Oliver a longtime fixture in the New Orleans coffee scene. Well worth stopping in on. Theres parking in the rear off of Banks Street.
I own Coffee Science. I am giving the 5 star review to all of our customers. Yall are the nicest people anyone could have as patrons. I am honored that you come and see us when you need a coffee. I want you all to know that I built Coffee Science for you and I hope to see you all for many years to come.
$8 for two cups of hot coffee.Yall just lost my buisness.
Some of the best coffee in the city!
This place is fabulous. I discovered it while volunteering at the public defender office around the corner. The staff are great, but the coffee is the real star. They brew the coffee just right, so theres full flavor and good body—I had one that quite actually tasted like blueberries and other that was just like chocolate and cherries. And best of all, everything is reasonably and fairly priced.
Great location for coffee. Baristas are super friendly and place is really chill. Didnt have food but it looked really good
Really effing perfect! The music was right on for the morning. The guy working was personable AF, funny, quick (which is a moral imperative) and attentive. The coffee was poured perfectly (cortado) and the decor was obviously expensive and well thought out. I work down the street and this may have to be my new spot!
Legit fantastic coffee thats hyper- focused on the local community.
Best coffee I could find in NOLA
Its about time NOLA got a coffee shop that actually cares about innovating new brews. The whole crew at Coffee Science is professional and helpful when it comes to ordering. Their retro futuristic design brings much needed freshness to the NOLA coffee scene. Screw the chains, Coffee Science is one you should not sleep on. If you do, just grab some coffee from em, youll see.
I love this place. They truly have the best coffee and an extremely knowledgeable staff. The only downside is parking, but in New Orleans, what else is new? I go there not only for mochas, but also there delicious selection of whole beans.
Always helpful attentive staff. Keep the place super clean. Great beverages. Good place to meet or get work done.
Serves one of the best coffee drinks in NOLA. Spacious, pretty original, absolutely comfortable. Friendly, albeit a bit slow in the mornings, baristas. Prices are not low.
Everything is Delicious
This place is open early 0630 and has great coffee and food. My favorite Nola coffee shop by far!
Tom is so freakin’ knowledgeable about coffee. The “Science” moniker in the name of this place isn’t just a gimmick...according to Tom, decades of personal studies and experimentation with coffee have gone into Tom’s brewing methods. This shows through brilliantly in his drip coffee and espresso. Hands down the most affordable, swiftly brewed and delectable cup of coffee you can get in New Orleans.
Super nice staff. Best coffee in Midcity, in my top 3 in New Orleans. Absolutely the best bagels in town!No vegan options for bagel spread, but they’re fine plain. Vegan breakfast tacos are flavorful and filling.
Fantastic coffee, pastries, food, and people. A New Orleans original...For true!
The coffee served is from local roasteries.Often crowded with college age study groups in the afternoon hours. They have a small food menu that I have yet to sample and a selection of snack items as well. The banana bread was delicious!Be wary, however, a refill on your coffee may cost anywhere from $1-3, depending on who is working.
If youre truly into coffee, dont miss this place. Before coming here I was swilling Dunkin Donuts and SB fare, along with a very tame pour over from a big name roaster/cafe also in the area. I was looking for something to revitalize my love of coffee and this place delivered! Cheap, too.Ill let the staff (and coffee) speak for themselves. They are a friendly bunch and they love local! Owner/operator has been in the NOLA coffee scene for years. No frills inside, but has character and is very clean. A lovely place to work from or meet with clients.
They make a real nice pour over, as well as good lattes. True, all beans are not the same...but you still need to know how to put it together (weight, grind, pour)Nice job!
Great coffee shop with extremely friendly baristas. Delicious croissant and Venetian cream, we came here 3 times in 2 days because it was so good. Can’t recommend it enough.
Interesting place. Stumbled upon this place by accident. Very limited selection as far as food goes. Very quaint place.
Always a pleasure to chat with friendly staff and get my espresso fix. Perfectly prepared every time. A Family business worth supporting!!
Ive been here 2x. The girl friend loves the iced lattes and Im in favor of the hot coffee. Black. They make it so good!!The first time we came was on 4th of July I think and place was a little slow. Got to meet the owner and his son and they were very helpful, attentive and have a way of putting you at ease.Stopped back again this morning and saw the person in front of me with a vial of coffee!! Its a new product with 6 shots of espresso. Its not yet on the menu but I do appreciate the lab flare as the name implies. If you want to order it, they call it DARK MATTER.Extra parking on the side street with rear door entrance. Lovely outside patio that is dog friendly. Free WiFi. Hot, strong coffee with real flavor. Cold AC. What more could you want?
Coffee Science, what a treat. For full disclosure, Im currently writing this review at Coffee Science while listening to a podcast with my noise-canceling headphones. A common sight here. I have other work I should be doing, but more times than not, procrastinating becomes the priority. The atmosphere here is relaxing and calming because of the plentiful indoor and outdoor seating options and windows that bring in just the right amount of natural light. My innate Millennial anxieties are lessened by the details mentioned before and the non wobbly tables. To provide structure in my life, I usually order the same thing: an Iced Latte. This takes the stress out of choosing another item from their expansive food and drink menu. On the topic of coffee, they take their products seriously. More times than not, they will redo an espresso shot if the pull (time of extraction) isnt perfect. Coffee Sciences baristas care about their craft. I appreciate the small conversations while your coffee is prepared. What else can you ask for? The only drawback is parking. Not only is the adjacent parking lot cozy, but Im pretty sure that the parking ticket lady would have a field day. Hopefully, she gets a cafe au lait while shes here.
Really cool, laid-back coffee shop with meticulously brewed coffee and teas. Always playing good music and serving tasty drinks and snacks.
Coffee is excellent for price point. Excellent atmosphere to read and study with a patio area as well.
Love the high ceilings and the soft turntable playing the music. The selection of coffees is extensive and it seems like every time we go they give us some coffee to try on the house. The staff is very friendly and helpful about the difference between flavors in the coffees they serve. There is some foods here but selection is limited to muffins, bagels, and other toastables. This is a great place to relax and enjoy.
Im here almost everyday, the owner is a gem, the coffee is amazing, everything is clean. thank you for taking such great care of your establishment.always a great conversation with everyone who works there thank you.
Not only is the COFFEE so perfectly fantastic but this spot fills my void of the lack of good bagels in this town! As an East coast transplant this is nothings shy of a life necessity. Shall I mention that the staff is incredibly friendly and professional...? Because when you have a spot consisting of caffeine with science as part of their nominated title I expect nothing less than magik... That said, these guys may as well be the local shamans of coffee I this town! BRAVO BRAVO!
Service was quick and coffee was delicious. What more could one want. Tasty banana nut muffins you say.... they have that too.
Coffee Science has an incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff. Tom and his his staff create consistently great espresso drinks and their drip/ brew coffee is better than the pour overs In the mid city area.
Service was quick and coffee was delicious. What more could one want. Tasty banana nut muffins you say.... they have that too.
Friendly staff, excellent service. Coffee was delicious. Beautiful coffee shop.
Awesome coffee! Great addition to this area.
The decor is nice, wi-fi is strong, and the coffee is fantastic. They brew coffee from local roasters, and they do a great job. The owner was happy to spend some time discussing the science behind brewing a great cup of coffee and also explained the modifications he made to his brewer to replicate the quality of a manual brew. This is a fantastic addiction to the local coffee scene.
