We have been coming to Southern Candy makers for years (since 1994). They have the best pralines in area. The other candies are great as well. We routinely place orders to be shipped to us and give these treats as gifts on special occasions. They are so helpful and there is always something cooking.
I placed my order, paid and left the store. I began walking down the street and bit into a praline. This was my first time having pralines and I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. My friends and I immediately turned around and went back into the store to purchase more. The staff is warm and welcoming! They offer a variety of flavors which are baked fresh daily...I highly recommend!!
My trip back home wasn’t complete til I made a visit to Southern Candymakers. The young man, Chad, was so kind in the shop. He asked me if I wanted to try a sample of the original flavor praline. ☺️ Of course I accepted that offer then ordered a pound of original and lemon flavored pralines to take back with me to Austin (TX). Beautiful shop. Nice people. I love my hometown. Keep up the great work!! Southern Candymakers so sweet!! ⚜️❤️⚜️❤️⚜️
The ladies were so helpful and the candy and sweets delicious. Everything was made in house. Definitely a great stop for those with a sweet tooth.
I was looking for a real candy shop that wasnt so commercial, and boy did I hit the jackpot. Spencer went out of his way to help me find everything I was looking for. I loved the dark chocolate sea salt tortue (French for turtle, of course :-) that Spencer recommended. Will definitely go back!
Very poor quality candy. In particular the chocolate candies. Appears to be a tourist trap. You can get much better quality elsewhere. The pralines were not fresh and not as good as what we found at other candy shops.
What a great shop! Passed by so many praline shops but this one caught our attention with the open doors allowing the smell of fresh candy to roll into the streets. Both times we went in they were making candy. (So we know its all fresh!) The staff was super friendly and welcoming. I guess we lucked out because it was uncrowded both times. We took home regular, chewy, and sweet potato pralines as well as a piece of Rocky road I think it was called. The chewy was hands down my favorite. Only regret was not getting more and not getting any turtles.
I went in but I swear I didnt get anything to those who know I am dieting. It was, however, very hot outside and the chocolate would have melted before we got back. The is a playground for chocolate and praline lovers of phantasmic proportions. You can watch them make the candies through a plexiglass window. You can peruse the bountiful shelves of wonderfulness untill you finally settle on what you want now. Gotta go back when I am not on a diet.
Variety of caramels, turtles, toffee, and one praline. The shop was wonderfully clean, and you could see through the big display window when they make the fudge and the candies.Just found out from a girlfriend in Virginia Beach but these are the only handmade caramels that she buys when she comes to the area. We do not disagree with that assessment.#aclarifiedwoman
What a fun shop with a team that really wants to satisfy you. They make all kinds of pralines and every one is delicious. How do I know? Because they encourage you to sample them. We fell in love with the Lemon, King Cake, Peanut Butter and Original Creamy. This is a must stop for praline lovers. They also have a lot of knick-nacks and candy they make such as assorted turtles.
Very friendly style good selection of chocolates. Great for taking home souvenirs
The divinity! Besides everything else in the store, the divinity is worth the trip, the wait...the whatever it is. Dont wonder. Go get the authentic and delicious southern candy treats here.
I never had pralines. OMG, this place is wonderful. I had pralines and my absolute favorite was the chocolate covered peaches. Knowing they shipped was great news.
I now know that pralines are bits of heaven!I had been wandering the French Quarter when I came upon Southern Candymakers. I stepped inside and the smell was amazing. It got even better when I was offered a very generous sample of their mouthwatering pralines to try. While I looked at the other goodies, I ended up leaving with half a pound of pralines and then actually made it home untouched. I should have bought a whole pound!!
My brother in law insisted we go here while in town. We tried the chocolate praline and it was fresh and hot so good. We also tried a couple other things including salted caramel praline and it was sooooo good. So many options and everyone was really helpful and patient.
I am a local business owner and when looking for holiday gifts for some other businesses that I work with regularly, it was important to me to find another local business to support. I am SO grateful that I found Southern Candy Makers! They have lots of beautiful options and all at very reasonable prices. The customer service was above and beyond - because I was late getting my orders in, there is a possibility that the gifts won’t arrive before Christmas and THEY had the thought to include a Happy New Years card as well so they didn’t seem late - such a simple thing but it truly made all the difference for me! And to clarify, I placed my order on 12/20 so the fact that there is even a chance they will arrive on time and they did not give me any grief for ordering so last minute is amazing! Wonderful company, wonderful staff - I highly recommend them!!!!
Was going to go to the Praline Connection but they were closed. Glad they were because this place is Awesome! Great service and the Pralines are soooooo good. They have peanut butter Pralines and more sweets. Definitely a place to go while in the N.O ..... 5 ⭐
I dont know if its the best. I havent tried enough. However, it is very good. Its not grainy, the pecans as good.Ill keep looking, but this is my go to place for something to take home when I visit New Orleans.
Chocolate was good, definitely go there if you want some upscale dessert, but keep in mind it is EXPENSIVE
It smell so sweet and good in here. Everthing looks yummy
Smells like heaven...make multiple stops with each visit to New Orleans..love the Decatur St location
The BEST in the French Quarter. We visited twice...friendly people and amazing pralines, tortues and chocolates... must visit this spot.
The best! Pralines made daily! Had to have some to take home for my kids. 🙂
On a recent stay in the French Quarter, I did a search for the best praline - but the ones at Southern Candy Makers (which had been billed as the best) sadly fell short of my expectations.
Best pralines in New Orleans! I have been coming to this shop to buy pralines since I lived in New Orleans 91-95. Their pralines never disappoint. I was in the store the last week of July 2020 and the pralines were just as amazing as I remembered. The pralines were well loved by my friends at home who received them as gifts. I was glad to hear the same two brothers who founded this shop in the 90s still own and manage it.
I love ordering from them! Their orders are made fresh to order and are handmade! They provide friendly, helpful, and prompt customer service. Their commitment shows in the taste of their sweets! Im hooked.
Staff was super nice. The original praline was so sweet and creamy...I felt like a kid in a candy store. The rum praline was my fav.
I always love it here. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and the best pralines ever!!!!! A must visit EVEYTIME I come to NOLA.
Pralines are out of this world. Melt in your mouth!
Dark chocolate covered orange peels are amazine. Pralines of all types - you gotta try the king cake pralines! Huge cases of freshly made candies and chocolates. Everyone is always super friendly and if you go at the right time, you can watch the pralines being made. YUMMMM
Love this place! If youre ever in the French quarter check them out and grab a tortuse!! Sooooo goood!
Cool store very sweet lol would recommend
This shop was a goldmine I randomly walked into. Definitely the best pralines I’ve ever had along with a ton of amazing candies. It’s a bit pricey, but you won’t regret buying some!
We were told that this is where to get the best pralines in NOLA. When you enter the store your greeted with the delicious smell of candy being made fresh right in the store. The gentlemen behind the counter were very friendly and knowledgeable about the candies. Due to Covid, we could not taste test the pralines in the store. We were given two prepackaged samples that we could try outside the store. When I finally tasted the original pralines sample I gave to see it was amazing.
The smell pulled us in! The awards on the wall guaranteed we bought way more than we planned. The taste makes me wanna go back before we leave!!
Best place for fresh pralines!
Best candy in Nola. Dont argue with me!
Awesome little shop. Liked it a lot. Went for pralines, and got a lot more.
Because my mother-in-law loves the shop
I try to stop by every time Im in the Quarter and everything Ive tried there has been delicious. However, my favourite go-to has always been the dark chocolate glace fruits and especially the candied orange peel which Ive gotten a good half dozen or so people hooked on. Due to the location they can sometimes be a bit busy but everyone working there works as fast as they can and are always really polite.Recently I couldnt make it in in person so I placed a gift order for a pound of the orange peel to be delivered and made the request for it to be made up of smaller pieces. Not only did they do so, they went above and beyond making sure not a single piece was more than about two inches long and the recipient absolutely loved it.
Good to go there to get chocolate
Such and amazing place with delicious sweets
I have been to the actual store and was overwhelmed with deliciousness and now, I order for friends AND me. Some deliveries have been far away from New Orleans, and I have never been disappointed with melted gifts. It is perfect every time. Friends go way out of their way for me in order to get these treats 🥰.
The best pralines in new Orleans, gotta be.
The candy there is awesome!!!!
Free samples (which is always a plus). The workers were very helpful and outgoing, without being pushy. We got a coconut white chocolate, mint square, and original praline and they were all delicious. An employee accidentally bumped into my husband who didnt have a firm grasp on the mint square and it fell to the ground. They got us a new one for free! Thank you!
Best praline I’ve ever had.
This candy store is a must-see if youre passing through are visiting New Orleans.
Great local spot with a variety of candies. This is definitely a must visit in the French Quarter.
The best pralines. It just melts in your mouth. Its smooth with the right crunch. Its not gritty or chewy. Theres got to be a secret ingredient. I ate two as I walked. You just want to keep eating it.
Praline are the best ever. They reeled us in on the free samples. After tasting about everything they offer we got a pound box of pralines, toffee, and tourtus. We will definitely have to stop again before leaving town
I will not order from here again. The delivery estimates are not correct and if you ask about your order they get rude with u!
Its a small candystore, but they make the candy at this location.
Read this...because I don’t even eat candy much...I decided to see what all the hype was about regarding pralines and and talked to the confectioners there before purchasing. The confectioners were not only friendly but were super descriptive regarding the flavor and consistency before I even attempted to taste it. I tasted them and my whole world changed. I purchased king cake pralines and original. That was 16 dollars..Fast forward the hotel room five hours later. All gone. We quickly awakened to walk to southern candymakers before a tour. I purchased 36 dollars worth this time. Amazing.Fast forward one day later...we awakened early thinking we could get to our flight in time and purchased. I was so sad when I realized we wouldn’t make it. On the plane, I purchased 68 dollars worth. They just came in the mail today and changed my world. What an amazing treat and a beautiful reminder of all that is wonderful in New Orleans. 100% worth it...and we actually attempted to try another company. They were disgusting. This place is the best!
I love this place for 2 reasons...tortues and pralines. Other stuff is good or ok but those 2 things will ensure I go back or order on line
The smell. The smell alone gets 5 stars. Everything here is great. There isnt a point in saying this or that. Its all amazing. But the pralines... Get the pralines.
This place was great. We tried a sample of several items they were all wonderful. They have a wide variety of chocolate covered items. The pralines were the best that we had the entire time we were in the area. They do a great job with gift wraps for souvenirs. I would suggest their salt water taffy they have a large selection of flavors.
VERY GOOD CANDY
Best pralines and toffee ever. I love the sweet potato praline. Creamy original is the absolute king though. White chocolate macadamia nut toffee is heavenly.
Great place to check out
I literally followed my nose into this fabulous family owned handcrafted candies store. I was greeted with fresh pralines and it is a sweet tooths dream in there. The ladies were making fresh caramel, pralines and chocolates. There is something for everyone in this delightful place, and the staff is always smiling and friendly.
Absolutely the BEST pralines in New Orleans... And such pleasant clerks. Plus: free samples so you get what you like!
My cousin wanted to send a New Orleans gift to a friend in Boston. I convinced her to try Southern Candymakers. There is a large assortment of candy for sale. They encourage you to sample the various confections. If you are on a diet this place will test your willpower. The service was friendly and top notch. My cousin wanted pralines but they werent individually wrapped for shipping. No problem. The wonderful young lady offered to individually wrap each praline then prepare them to be shipped. My cousin got a few things for herself while we were there. This was a sweet trip.
These are THE BEST Pralines Anywhere!!!I ve traveled a lot and tested the pralines wherever I found them. These are better than all others.Everything made by this family store is wonderful
The best fresh made praline shop in New Orleans! They also have plenty of other candies including sugar free options.
Every candy perfectly hand made in house. They also package and hold for you if like. Great staff and service
Went to this shop when on holiday and have never looked back on any other toffeeBest regards the happy to find out but it was really great to find out more
A local friend brought me here 4 years ago when I asked him who had the best pralines in the city. I was not disappointed. Yes, they are a little pricey, but after savoring a sweet potato praline or a coconut praline, you will want to pay them for the privilege. Quality costs extra, and these pralines, fudges, toffees, and nuts are worth every penny and then some. Youre not buying candy. Youre indulging in a New Orleans experience you will not regret.
Absolutely worth the awards, hype, and excellent location. Although the sweet potato version is not for me - too much cinnamon - the creamy pralines are perfect. Just done enough to bring out the caramel-y maple flavor, tons of nuts, and whole nuts too. Pralines and sugar caramels in general are a subtle art and these folk are artists.
The smells comming from the shop were wonderful. The staff was very friendly and eager to help. Dont waste your money on prepackaged versions. Make this a mandatory stop
The pralines are probably the best around, having a nice buttery taste, but at $26/pound for a sugar and nut candy they OUGHT TO be! Good heavens! The other candies, even lowly chocolate covered peanuts, are all also $25-$26 a pound. REALLY??? I can buy the finest chocolates imported from Belgium for less than that. Place is still packed. All I have to say, Im in the wrong business.
Cute candy store. Great selection of pralines and other chocolate based candies. A few taffy and other candy selections were available as well. The service was nice and very helpful.
Love the pecan brittle!
Absolute lovely candy place. As soon as you walk in you are hit with a delicious cookies in the oven type of smell that makes you feel happy and at home. The candy is so delicious & beautifully made. If you are in the French quarter area your going to want to get to this place!
Good New Orleans treats; very friendly and helpful staff!
Yummy sugared treats. The smell hits you at the door. Friendly helpful staff. Enjoyed our visit!
Great service. Friendly staff!
Very high-quality candy.
We live in Idaho but have need to the Southern Candymakers several times and its the first place we go when we get to the French Quarter. My son is getting married in December and wanted a gift box to be served with the refreshments. I noted this on my order as I was concerned it would get here on time and still be fresh. Jenny from the Southern Candymakers contacted me and said they would send my order out in time to get here and be fresh. So much appreciate their customer service and their great candy. It should be on the must do first list for visitors to the French Quarter. They are awesome to work with and candy is great.
We taste tested a bunch of different pralines during our weekend NOLA trip, and this shop by far had the best one. Not oversweet and the right amount of chewiness. They also have other amazing treats like turtles. We went home with two boxes and still enjoy them.
Stop by and try their pralines. They make them fresh there, and the staff is super friendly. And tell them that Justin sent you. 😂
The only reason why I gave it a three star is because of the price. If a do the math each praline and torture piece ended up costing me pretty much a buck. But rest assured they taste heavenly. It’s just that I couldn’t buy a whole lot and bring it back for everyone back home because of the price.
