Dont come here for hardwood. They are price gouging to the extreme! Please look elsewhere, there are places somewhat close that arent gouging as bad

Siweks has undoubtedly a great selection of lumber at pretty decent prices.Their customer service(in the building with standard cut lumber) has a lot to be desired, however. I asked for 12 feet of lumber to be cut and was charged for 22 feet. Upon realizing this, I went back to Siweks to get a return on the 10 feet I was overcharged for and the man in the lumberyard flat out said “I feel for you, but how do I know you’re not lying?” I was honestly kind of shocked by this rude behavior and went into their hardware building and the cashier there simply refunded my money on the spot. She was super helpful and the transaction took maybe 30 seconds.Carpenters regularly come here to spend thousands of dollars on lumber. Why heckle me and call me a liar for 34 dollars for a mistake that was not even my fault?

Never write google reviews, but this is not excusable at this point:So I purchased materials here a few times of the past few weeks and its rare to see a member of the staff wearing a mask. Unless Im mistaken, the state mask mandate is still in effect for businesses, so not sure why the exception here. Customer facing staff were not wearing masks. Other staff walking within the store were not wearing masks.No, Im not particularly concerned about my own safety directly, but the safety of those that it could spread to. As Im writing this, 356,000 people have died in the U.S. and its apparent that the staff here dont want to help slow the spread.Hard to want to bring return business to this place and hard to view them deserving of any past/future government financial relief, if they arent going to look out for their community.Simple solution. Staff, just wear your masks. its really not that hard and its effective. If its for political reasons, maybe time to start listening to medical professionals before you listen to your preferred politicians. Enough said.

Ive purchased both tools & hardware as well as lumber here and always been in and out quick with what I needed. The lumber area is the key - tons of variety, unique one-off live cuts that make amazing furniture etc, and lots of sizes including some very long pieces if you need that. They can also cut to size onsite which comes in handy. As for tools, its yes its a Milwaukee shop so if youre looking for something else hit a big box store, but Milwaukee is a great brand so Ive no complaints about that. Ill definitely be back for my next projects coming up this summer!

I have been to Siwek several times over the years. In my experience what sets them apart is their staffs patience and help with selecting and purchasing materials. Everyone you walk by checks to see if you have a question and they were more then happy to cut down larger pieces for my projects even at busier times of the day.

Lots of inventory here. Got a deal deal on stair treads once and stop by every once in a while to get something. Always helpful.

Excellent experience! Everyone at Siwek from the owner, to the in store staff, and even the forklift operator were incredibly kind and helpful. I over ordered on some railroad ties and, when I asked for a refund of the difference, they credited my account within a day. Siwek will now always be my first stop for lumber needs.

A great place to rummage around. My cabin is sided and roofed with bargain lumber from Siweks, and a beat-up door I found there became a great desk. Good prices too.

Top notch staff and selection here!! If there were a few more Siweks, thered be no more Home Depot, Menards, or Lowes!! NO OTHER home improvement/construction retailer can touch Siweks service!!! Their prices are in line with the big box stores (for the most part), but you get MUCH BETTER service at Siweks. And theyre not pushy like Ace stores. Sometimes I just want to go in, serve myself, and be left alone to invent or create. Siweks gives you that opportunity, but will hold hold your hand if you need it! I feel bad because I sometimes absentmindedly drive right past it on my way to HD.... DOH!! For that, Im ashamed. But I try to make up for it every time I go in!

Employees dont wear masks in the store.EDIT:I want to clarify because the business owner responded to my review - I am only talking about the employees in the actual store and not about outdoor lumberyard, warehouse or office. None of the employees in the store wore masks. One employee would pull a mask over his mouth when someone approached the register but would leave his nose uncovered so it was pointless anyway. Their response to my review and the other review involving masks is very dishonest.I also want to point out that employees inside of a warehouse or an office should also be wearing masks if there are any other people in those warehouses or offices according to the Minnesota mask mandate.EDIT 2: I popped in again the other day because I figured they might be wearing masks after the way they responded to reviews. Employees still arent wearing masks in the store. Not going back.

Great service, extremely helpful, loaded the lumber in minutes. Way better then the big box stores, Ill never buy lumber from anywhere else again.

Old fashioned lumber yard, with friendly, patient service. Customers allowed to wander, to ponder, to choose their prime lumber, with respectful staff available when time to inquire, to shoulder, to settle.

Staff was helpful they just didn’t have what we were looking for.

Product looked good and got some help (no one there seemed to be very nice or happy) with tracking down and picking out a piece of wood I was looking for. I was quoted $60 for the wood from Tom, as they were finishing it up I had to take off but my wife stayed to load it up and pay for it. She called me once she left and said they charged her over $90! Taking advantage of someone like that will definitely never get my business again and hopefully not yours either. This place has great potential if they would work on being more friendly and honest.

I’m 2 hours away but no one has cedar siding in Duluth. I bought more than $300 in cedar siding to replace 7 boards on my house. Their 1x10 were 1/4 in too narrow, so I contacted them and the let me do a return. I still needed siding so I provided measurements of mine and they were going to custom make me the right size. I didn’t Hear back from them so I called and got the “we’re getting to it.” Another week goes by and I make the 5 hour round trip again bringing in a sample and spoke with the guy handling my order. I guess I got the run around again because it’s been another 2 weeks and still BMI word from them. They have great wood it’s just siweks son and his accounts manager just weren’t honest with me.

We ordered trim. It was back ordered. We were told to wait a week or 2. They never called for weeks l, so we checked on status with every person who answered the phone never finding our order. We ended up getting stock trim because of the hassles and even then they gave us the wrong size of what we ordered. So we had to make multiple trips to get the length we intended on. It was frustrating.

Great quality products. The staff are all very friendly and willing to help, but it seems impossible for anyone to call you back or be on the same page on whether or not your project is complete. We’ve been told our product has been in for the last five weeks, but nobody can verify they are complete (even when the owner said last week the project was done). Disappointed in this part of the business.

Two separate interactions have been negative experiences. Will not try again.1. My husband had some guy come out to discuss porch plans, he took measurements and said hed be in touch- we never heard back from him. Ever.2. Woman who answers the phone is rude and condescending.

Guy picked 2 different thicknesses of same profile trim...cant miter that, so have to make trip back. On flip side, they actually had my thicker stock, impressive selection.

I tried over and over to give Siwek Lumber $10,000 of my business. I really did. Im the owner of a 100+ year old Arts & Crafts Bungalow & repeatedly tried to order about $10,000 of windows & a front door from Brad & eventually from Tom Siwek himself. The main problem: it took them WEEKS to get back to me with information and eventually MONTHS. The last email I received was Tom telling me hed get back to me shortly. Well, he never got back to me. It seemed like theyve never ordered windows from Andersen & didnt understand the product at all. Eventually, I went and got a 300-page Andersen Window catalog on my own & figured out precisely which windows I needed, how they should be milled together, all of the hardware & accessories and supplied Siwek with all of that information, along with a detailed computer-generated drawing showing precisely what I wanted. They didnt even bother getting back to me. I really dont understand it. I was cordial in every interaction; I wasnt asking for anything out of left-field (all of my windows except 1 were standard sizes). I was left feeling like a $10,000 order must be small potatoes for Siwek, because they clearly didnt want my business. My advice: dont use Siwek for windows & doors. Their lumber yard looks pretty cool, though. Maybe Ill give that a try down the road.

Great place for hardwood, use to go to a different place nearby but they were at least 25% more expensive. Cant recommend Siwek enough.

We were unable to get a quote for windows and doors. Visited the location and waited for 10-15 minutes to see the rep, provided him with the details and dimensions, followed up with him by phone twice, were promised information, and after a couple weeks the trail has run cold with no estimate provided. They are quite busy right now, and apparently have enough business as it is. I feel weve wasted our time, and if we cant get any attention for a cost estimate, we wont get the attention for the order, delivery, or follow-through.

I really like the selection of hardwoods they always seem to have what I need this is the best place to get lumber in the cities in my opinion

Great family owned lumberyard. When Im working on an old house and need period specific moldings for a reasonable price, this is your only option in the twin cities. You will have to buy a bit more to cut out the defects. Or pay more for labor to sand some chatter. But Ive keep going back for the people and the selection.

We worked with Siwek to complete a custom window. Luckily they were able to make a perfect replica to replace the broken one. Even the owner stepped in to keep communicating with us to keep us updated. We appreciated their quality work and customer service and recommend them to others!

This place is like a candy shop for makers, builders, carpenters, etc. The service can’t be beat. There’s always a team member within view and they’re the most helpful cats I think I’ve ever dealt with when it comes to lumber questions.The prices are competitive and if you have a need for more than several board feet of something special, find Mike and he might cut you a deal.

Went in to buy 1/8 plywood and 90% of what they had in stock was cracked and in very poor condition. It was also hard to find someone to help me out as things were not labeled very well. They gave me a deal on what I could find which was nice, but quality of product was pretty low.

Loved walking in and someone was right there to help me. They knew what I was describing and took me right to it. I will be going back for supplies for my own remodel. When I start working on returning my house back to the way it was in the 1930s when it was built.

Nicest people with the best quality wood products. Very helpful and courteous to the novice or the pro. The products may be a little more expensive than the big boxes, but the quality, knowledge and service far outweigh the pennies saved.

Came here for 2x4 and some other lumber, ask a work in door 3 the he just said it by door 1. I didn’t know where door 1 was, so I walk around the whole lot just to find out it’s across from door 3. It’s 20 feet away and he could’ve walk me over and show me. After I found only one selection of 2x4 I went inside and look for more, many worker walk pass me clearly see that I was looking around being lost, no one came to assist me. After I found what I wanted only to find that the pricier the HD. Home Depot is only 8 min away so I went there instead. -2 star with that experience, but 4 star with there Milwaukee tool prices and friendly girl at the register who took here time to look for a tool that wasn’t in stock. I’ll come one last time to buy the Milwaukee tool I wanted and that it.

Unbelievable product here. We were able to match baseboard trim from our 1914 home to a product in the store. Almost identical. Will return here again and again. I wish we had more projects to tackle!

As a local small business owner, I believe in shopping local whenever possible. I cant tell you how many times the skilled and knowledgeable staff at Siwek Lumber & millwork have helped me. When I say help, I mean HELP! Theyve taken the time to hunt down esoteric parts and hardware for me, their selection and quality of lumber and millwork is exceptional, and the attention to customer care is akin to a small town operation where everyone knows everybody. Sure, sometimes theyre extremely busy and things take longer, but whatever...deal with it! If you look at the other reviews left by folks who for some reason gave a very poor review, youll see that most of these people actually only give negative reviews and rarely if ever give any positive reviews... That should tell you something! I always check FIRST with Siwek before I go elsewhere to spend my money. Even if its something I know I can get cheaper from a big retailer, I still buy it from Siwek. Support local small businesses! Its good for your community.

Do not expect any help picking out lumber or anything else you might need. It was a struggle to find someone to even talk to, and when we did, we were told to come get him when we were ready to have our boards cut. Offered absolutely no assistance navigating around or finding anything we needed. Left without spending any money, will never, ever go back.

Lots of options here; especially if you need something custom. Pickers are super helpful and prices are about right. If you have a large project for an old home, make sure to give Siwek Lumber a look.

Ive been going to Siwek since I first discovered them in 2010, mostly for custom millwork such as arched doors and discontinued wood window storms. They do excellent work using excellent material. If only I could post pics in this review. Thanks Siwek

Siwek Lumber is great, they have everything you need for fixing up old houses. All of the trim profiles, hardware, and know how that is lacking at places like Home Depot and Menards. If they dont have what you need they will either order it for you or make it.

Theyre always friendly and helpful, with better prices than the big boxes on quality products. Skilled millworkers shop for custom trim. Theyre a real local lumber yard and hardware store.

Mediocre selection. Price is good. Staff is too busy to help.Not the best value when you cut out the knot holes, cracks etc unless you are working on pretty small projects. You definitely get what you pay for.

Very helpful and friendly. If you need almost anything home related they probably have it and if they dont, theyll either get it or tell you where yo find it.

I recently added a window in our 20 year old home. Local big box lumber stores could not match the maple trim so I made the 1 hour drive to your store and found a maple trim that was very close to my old trim. Your price was great and I am looking for an excuse to shop in your store again.

I like Siweks. I have been going there for years seeing the same people there.I way prefer going here rather than Menards or Home Depot.

The service and selection at Siweks was wonderful. They had the exact type of lumber needed to do a major floor repair, as well as some other materials not found at Home Depot or Menards.I have found that if the first person doesnt know, they will find a second who does. The place really has that old, local hardware store feeling that is missing in most places today. They help load and all of that. And if you love the smell of lumber, this is your place! I will definitely be back.

I am a homeowner doing a DIY 10x 12 shed. As a female I was initially intimidated going to a lumberyard. My experience was very positive. They took the time to walk me around to show me samples to be sure I was getting what I wanted. At one point I had three employees reviewing my plans and making helpful suggestion on how to build the window and the type and placement of the hinges. I did need to make two additional delivery orders over the phone. These were delivered the next day as promised. In the end the excess nails and wood was graciously taken back for a full refund. The resulting shed is beautiful.Tom, Jason and Matt were particularly helpful. There were two other folks that were also very friendly but I did not get their names.I did have one negative interaction with an older gentleman on the phone. I think he was having a bad day.Also, the delivery charge is less than the local big box even though the big box is closer than Siweks!

Well, I was suprised to meet exactly what the reviews were saying, and they are true. Possibly intoxicated? I spoke with Mr. Siwek himself, very curt, unappreciative when asking of a particular project, and ended the conversation before I could even begin....?Maybe some get lucky with good service when they go here, I was certainly not.

Prices are great, large variety of lumber and millwork also a Hardware store.
