Negative 8 stars. love the experience of being screamed at by one of their employees (white, female, heavy set, glasses, late 40s to early 50s) for not picking up her dog when it ran out of her office as Im carrying a glass window. As a customer youre somehow responsible for a strangers dog that they let loose in their own salvage yard. So good!
This place is massive and takes a long while to get through. Surprised at prices- pretty expensive. A few employees were not wearing masks (August 2020). One unmasked employee was acting pretty unprofessional and screaming/yelling at someone (a customer?) to get out. That was a turn off! But, if youre looking for something to do and are interested in old houses, architecture, there is some pretty random cool stuff. Kind of like a free museum but you have to really dig around.
Amazed at the variety of stuff there on multiple levels and buildings. If you want to save money with salvaged items or cant get something because of COVID delys, chances are you can find it here. A fun place to explore. The conveyor rollers I found for pulling my pontoon out of the lake for the season were a great find!
I recently purchased a great condition used R22 central air condenser for my home its working great and easily saved me a couple thousand bucks! I look forward to my next visit, mike from Maplewood.
Beyond poor customer service. I called to ask a question and the lady was beyond rude. I saw something online and called to see if they had had it. She was colder than ice to me. I said can you send pics like everyone else was even a one woman store did. In the coldest voice she said no we have a limited staff and laugh at me. I been going there for year I don’t deserve this rude customer service. She said nice have a good day slam the phone. I will never shop in there again! Don’t go they are rude.
Great stuff thats impossible to find anywhere else. So many cool old wooden doors, old porcelain fixtures, and just generally unusual things to look at.
4 floors of anything you can imagine to add to or restore your home. It is amazing and worth every minute exploring this place
A real fun place to find building supplies and antiques from salvage projects. You go in with one need or idea and come out with so much more. You can spend hours there be prepared!
A dream come true if you like good old second hand stuff.
This place is a house of treasures. So cool. If you have an older home this place has what you need to bring it back to it glory days.
Amazing as always. If you l♡ve being junk drunk this is the place for you. Warehouse filled with everything architectural you didnt know you needed until you find it in the rough and cant live without it.
Great always find what I need
They have EVERYTHING imaginable, and then some! Excellent customer service. Take the time to look around because youll most likely find it.
A few cool items, but most were over priced for the condition they were in. The place is hard to navigate and hard to find any employees for help. And the lady in the front office who helped us check out was extremely rude.
Two stars on selection of cool stuff. Quite expensive, not real user friendly, you get the feeling they would rather not have customers. I guess I just dont understand their program..
Ive been going to Bauers for 30+ years and always find something I have to have... As Im getting a bit older now, I brought my daughter there today to introduce her to Chuck, and told him he can only charge her half as much as he has been charging me all these years, cause shes only half my size ;)
This place is literally treasure island. For those looking for that little something or big something to make your home improvement project a true 1 of I kind, look no further. The staff is nothing short of amazing and there are no words to describe how amazing the selection of treasures truly is.
Love going to here!! You never know what you’ll stumble upon. They do an amazing job posting items online and are great at knowing their inventory. Just a fun place to wander around too!
Such an amazing treasure hunt! I go here often when Im looking for the rare, unusual or very hard to find items. The inventory is ever-changing and unlike anywhere else in the Twin Cities. I always go with an open mind and imagination because what youre buying is unique and while they may not have that exact size, color, etc. as what youre looking for at the moment you visit (although chances are they will have what you need), what youre getting is so much better. Prices are AMAZING. The staff is professional, always friendly and incredibly helpful! Do a self-directed tour first and then ask about specific items - makes the process really fun and easy. A+ A true gem!
If you don’t mind that you’re paying nearly triple what this mostly garbage material is worth it’s great. Cool antiques can be found but the majority of what they have on hand will likely end up in a dump at some point because no sane person should be able to justify the cost. Here’s to hoping they go out of business and we can all go back for a clearance sale and save this stuff from the landfill.
What an AMAZING shop !!!! We needed some old siding to fix around a window we replaced, nobody had siding that would match our siding. So our options were to lay a 1/4 inch plywood sheet, then siding (big bucks !!) We were told to check this store out, they HAD exactly what we needed and very reasonable per foot !! We got all the lumber we needed for $36.00 !! Had we not found this, our bill would of been between $250 to $300 total ! And they have everything under the sun in this store, I could not quit saying WOW look at that !! Will defiantly be going back there to shop & recommend this store to everyone !!
If you have an old home and you want stuff for it, this is a place to start. Buffets, doors, storm windows, baseboards and pretty much everything else. Ive been using Bauer Bros to return our 1904 Victorian Farmhouse back to the way it should be. Prices are usually negotiable. Have fun and dress warm in the winter.
It was my first time in the store, and was the only shopper, I wasnt sure where to go. The owner came out of his office, asked if I needed help then told me about the 3/4 floors of stuff. He wasnt rude but sounded like he was, but I thought maybe he just comes off that way. Ok cool- I decided to look around.First few things I looked at OMG!!!!😳 the prices were out of this world- are you kidding me an old used door knob for $40!lol!! 😂. Everything was old and used but I knew I wasnt at a ReStore store(cant wait for them to open up). After covering the first floor I picked up 3 little things - $20.On my way out, I overheard the owner on phone say we are not selling muchMe: Well duh!!! everything should be 75% off! I gave two stars because I can see people liking some of the things but the price naw dude try again. I will be looking out for the 75% off sign.
Upside: Huge. Lots of amazing stuff. Downside: 1. Did not have much in the way of cabinet hinges in good condition, which is what I came for. 2. Freezing cold, even on a warm day. Wear a coat when you go.
This is one of my favorite places to spend an afternoon. The staff is friendly and really helpful when hunting for random things!Whether you have a specific item or project in mind, or you want to browse and get your inspiration for future projects. I’ve gotten everything from practical needs to antique treasures here and have sent many people their way.* also definitely follow their Instagram for a sneak peek at the fun new things that arrive in their shop! @bauerbrotherssalvage
For 25 years weve been rebuilding an old farm in Dakota County. The Bauer familys unique inventory continues to be a source for quality pieces that add character: sinks; hardware; decorative woodwork; built-in cabinets; and, odd stuff. Ive walked in with half of an old hinge and watched in amazement as someone walks through two floors of packed materials, opens a drawer, and handed me a matching half. If you come with your measurements, a tape measure, warm clothes (even in summer), boots, gloves, and patience, they will have ideas, advice, options, and prices that are pretty darn fair. Everything in there will require TLC before its ready for install because, well, its salvage from somewhere else. But if you like stories, and a hand in preserving quality craftsmanship from eras gone by, this is a great place to poke around.
I really like this place. Its the consignment shop for historic houses. Ill go here first if I ever need a solid and historic door/radiator/railing/moulding/stained glass/etc. Or whenever I just want to look around. Be warned, even though its mostly indoors, it gets chilly in the Winter. And the sales folk are a bit cold all year round.
Very cool place if your into salvage and reuse of antique building materials. Multiple floors of doors, windows, fireplaces, bath and kitchen fixtures, lighting etc..etc....etc. give yourself a good 2-3 hours to go through it all. Only reason I am giving it 4 stars is its more expensive than buying new in most cases...its pricey.
Huge. much antique and classk stuff. i find parts I need for projects. high prices tho
Shopped at BB several times over the past 20 years... Aug 2019 I contacted them to offer 35 free metal mailboxes, our HOA was swapping them out and I figured it would be better to donate them opposed to landfill. The text messages and phone conversation were RUDE. They picked the boxes up without a word to me. I sent a text back saying that next time someone does you a favor maybe say thank you - no response. Not sure what happened to these owners but I wont be back.
Awesome!
Cool stuff but way over priced, and not willing to negotiate even though the set of kitchen cupboards we were looking to purchase ($2500) had been there since July 2019. Girl in office was not friendly at all.
Lots of stuff. Hard to identify staff if you have questions. Not a lot of bargains.
When you are looking for classic, vintage, unique, etc. building supplies, this is a great place to look!Light fixtures, doors, door frames, for handles, tables, bars, and almost anything else you can imagine. The inventory is constantly changing, so you really need to just dive in and see what treasures you can find for all of your home projects.
Huge warehouse of everything and anything you would ever need. Huge selection of things to help finish projects youve started or are about to start. Probably going to find things you didnt know you needed or wanted as well. Great place to do business with.
If youre looking for it they have it as far as vintage building materials go. During the winter its colder inside the building than outside so dress warm.
I love this place! It is like walking thru the past. Amazing treasures around every corner.
BAUER BROTHERS SALVAGE SITS IN A MASSIVE WAREHOUSE IN NORTH MINNEAPOLIS...BAUER BROTHERS COMPANY IS DEDICATED TO PROTECTING HISTORICAL AND RARE ITEMS...HOPING TO PROVIDE THEM WITH A SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE...GREAT TREASURES HERE...SOME TRULY UNIQUE AND HISTORIC ITEMS AS WELL...
Sometimes prices can be a little high there, but if you’re into new projects and creating stuff that place will give you no lack of ideas.
Talk about having it all. Well almost. We didnt find the vent style we were looking for, but they have so much amazing stuff. Def. Check it out! But wear boots and a jacket in the winter. Place is cold as outside in Minnesota.
Massive warehouse full of almost anything you may need, lots of vintage furniture and fixtures, you could easily spend a few hours looking throughout the building.
Here from out of town visiting family and stopped by to look for a door. The time was 12:55 and encountered a woman employee who refused to sell me the door I wanted because she told us we had to leave because they were closing. She was very rude and unprofessional. I had my wallet open ready to purchase but couldnt because she literally rushed us out the door. Her customer service was horrible.
This place is AMAZING. If you were a scrapper who traveled the wastelands collecting treasures of the past, this would be the place you constantly end up at to sell your wares!
This place is INSANE. Its HUGE. Apparently I didnt even make it to the second building, or outside, and still spent over 2 hours there. Be careful, you might get lost. My only complaint is that the prices are higher than the other architectural salvage stores in the area.
If you love antique architectural elements, you will love this place. 😁 I was in my personal paradise.
Shawn was so helpful in a sea of awesome treasures he found just what I needed! Thanks will definitely be back soon!!
We are very lucky to have a place like Bauer Brothers! I always look here first!
Wonderful selection. Always something amazing around each corner.
It might be 90 degrees outside, but its always a cool 55 inside, so bring a coat. Prices are decent, and you will have to dig for the good stuff, but its completely worth it!
So many items! We will be coming back for sure! Make sure to wear warm clothing as the warehouse is not heated :).
Tons of stuff but over the many years of going there, the prices have gone insanely high! Dress warm on cold days as its not heated and its a Huge place. Plenty to look at ........
Always able to find something unique for my resort. Very helpful people.
I GOT COMPLETELY SCAMMED BY THE OWNER OF THIS COMPANY FOR AN ITEM I WAS TOLD WAS ORIGINAL & WORTH ALOT OF MONEY...TURNED OUT IT WAS A REPLICA FAKE ITEM!! VERY UNTRUTHFUL COMPANY....DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE!!!!
They do have rare outdated things you cant find anywhere but what they charge for the stuff is outrageous!!
If you cannot find what you need here then you dont know what you need. Great place!
Wow! Poorest demonstration of customer service I have seen in a very long time. After finding light fixtures I have been looking for for months, I went to purchase them at the front desk. Lady behind the desk never once greeted me, said please, thank you, have a nice day, or any similar form of courtesy. My biggest complaint however, is that she never stood up from her chair even though sitting clearly made her ineffective at her job. She made a mistake on how many light fixtures I purchased causing my credit card to be ran twice and couldnt even see to pick up the receipt. If this front desk lady is disabled the company should get a shorter counter or a taller chair. The entire encounter was rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional!
Very poor business ethics. They allow their employees to write bad reviews to other companys that they have never been to. I tried to talk to the owner and they just hung up on me.
If they dont have it, you dont need it. A little patience and time and youll find what youre looking for.
YEP!! ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS ARE CORRECT ON HERE. VERY DISHONEST COMPANY!!!!!
Called with a question about pricing and the person on the phone was extremely rude and short. And they barely even answered the question before saying goodbye.
Love this place.
Awesome place, like a axeman for industrial equipment.
Overloaded with stuff and not heated. But I would go back.
Its just a unique place.
L like go there for what they have but a bit expensive than what you will be willing to pay for otherwise is good for commercial and residence building material.
Great stuff but be ready to barter!
Price and service
I have been buying from the original owner for years, I dont know if he died, retired or was pushed out, but it is not the same place.Prices are outrageous and ridicules. My opinion is, it is a waste of time to even go there now as everything is so over priced.
Overpriced and inconsistent pricing on millwork. Staff isnt all that friendly.
This place is ridiculous how can I sell a used water heater thats for 5 years old 200 to 300 dollars some of them even $400 all of their used building materials are extremely overpriced almost as much as retail like are you kidding me tried to talk him down on a urinal they wanted $300 for the guy wouldnt budge and yes all the other reviews are correct there are some poor customer service very rude greedy folks there
VERY RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!...I WILL NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY EVER...PERIOD!!!
I found them to be exceptional rude profiteers.
Very cool place!
A lot of stuff. Pick & peck type process.
Whomever I just spoke with on the phone was very rude, and I will no longer be visiting this store.
Love u guys on Rehab Addict!!!!
