The service writer John helped me out as soon as I got there. Alfonso took care of my truck did a lot of work all in one day after I went in for an alignment check. Justin checked in with me throughout the day and kept me updated. Overall great service fast and friendly. These guys know what they are doing you want it done right go see them at this pep boys

Good place to get work done they always take care of me and preform free inspections to makes sure my car is in good condition. the service writer Hernan and my mechanic Jeromy even came and talked to me about my car, showed me what was wrong and were very patient. They took the time to explain to me what was going on really made me feel like i brought my car to the right place and Justin the manager went out of his way to get me coupons because i forgot mine so fine and friendly staff.

They are the worse. Took my Audi to get an oil change. Took them 1hr and 15 mins to get it done. The manager and the employees need more people skills.After they gave me back my car I took it home. Didnt drive it til this past week when i went to work. I parked the car inside the garage after work. The next morning I woke up to to oil dripping. They didnt clean up after the oil change. Now my garage has oil stains cause if their incompetence. Never again ill be taking my car to Pep Boys. If they cant get an oil change right what makes you think they can fix your car correctly. Worse experience!!Edit!!They ask me to take the car back so they can do an inspection. The manager that was working at the time (heavy set man with goat tee) was real helpful. He kept on apologizing for the mistake they made. They checked it out and it happened to be that they messed up the oil drain plug. HOW CAN YOU MESS THAT UP??!! He ask me to leave my car there so they can fix the mistake. THERE WAS NO WAY I WOULD DO THAT! Pepboys already had a chance the first time to get it fix and wasnt able to. I got my refund and took it to the Volkswagen shop. Upon further inspection, Pepboys over tighten th sh** out of the plug.. REALLY?!! The whole shop should be closed down, period!!

It was about 3AM when I was on my way to a family member who was dying. I was driving a rental car on the 5 freeway, and had a tire blow out. The rental car place told us to go to Merced and get a replacement in the morning, but when we got there, they had no cars for us. We were sent to Pep Boys. We were exhausted and frustrated, and the assistant service manager, Justin Washburn initially told us it would be a 3 hour wait, but when we explained to him our situation, he immediately stopped what he was doing and gave us first priority. He was very kind and efficient. The car was repaired within 15 minutes, and he drove it up to the front door to meet us. I really appreciate his kindness and that he made us the first priority in a desperate situation. Kudos!

Went there because I had a problem with the starter, waited about 15min and the guy told me I NEEDED A NEW BATTERY so they can continue with the diagnosis, ABOUT 150$, I said no thanks Ill take it with me right now, HE SAID IF YOU CAN MAKE IT STARTED, really!! I believe this guys get bonus or something when they make you buy other stuff that you didnt even went for.

This pep boys was very easy to work with and helped me change the headlights out on my car. Apparently there are two types of headlights the cheap and the expensive. The expensive ones would have taken a while to replace and I brought my dog so I could walk her home. They welcome my large friendly dog as it turned out it was a simple cheap headlight switch. I would definitely come again for my car needs.

I drive I5 several times a year, as a college student from Southern California going to school in Northern California. I had a tire blow out halfway down I5 and had to find a nearby tire place open on a Sunday. Drove over on the spare, Pep Boys Merced had tires ready in-stock, a B3GO sale deal with free install, and were able to get me back on the road in about an hour, even in the late afternoon on a Sunday! Saved me from being stranded for the night, exceptional service(They are currently a service-only/garage location, but if service is all you need, they are great!)

Store closed 6 months ago or more; only thing left is the garage for battery checks, tires, and the sort. Too bad, it was a great store and they screwed themselves! Closest store is now in Modesto (McHenry) which is half the size that the Merced store was, and its about a third empty.

Ive been getting oil changes there for a few years because they have good coupons, but might look elsewhere. It takes forever lately. Last time they promised an hour but it took roughly 3 hours just to change the oil.

Went to Pep Boys for an alignment. Anthony (the manager) told me i would need to pay $25 first; to check to make sure that nothing was wrong with my front end before he aligned it. After the front end check, he told me my bushings were worn and i needed both lower control arms replaced before he could align my car. This was a $1,060 quote. I immediately had a bad feeling, and felt i was being scammed. So i took the car for a second opinion to the ford dealership, who checked my car and told me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my car. I cant believe pep boys did this to me. For many years i believed pep boys was a reputable company. Now, i know they are complete opposite. I will never go there again.

We just had some major work which needed to be done on our versa note. This happened on Thursday evening. The parts had to be special ordered and this was our only work car. I cant tell you how grateful we were when we received a phone call on Sunday, early afternoon, saying that our car was done!! This company is first rate, the technician s are thorough, polite and willing to go that extra mile to have happy, satisfied customers. THIS is why we bring our business to Pep Boys! Took my car in to have alignment checked seven months after getting new tires and an alignment done. Prior to this I had replaced the inner and outer tie rods. My girlfriend brought the vehicle in for me as I was at work. She called when they were done(she told me they had it on the rack for three minutes), and I spoke with service rep. He told me right outer and left inner tie rods are no good. I told him I had already replaced the tie rods, he replied I must have done it incorrectly. I told them to do nothing. A little background, I am by no means ASE certified, however, i am a certified marine technician and currently repair industrial gearboxes. I do believe I am capable of replacing a tie rod. Following my inspection I found no play in the ball joints of the tie rods, however, I did find the nut that tightens the tie rod to the coupling not even hand tight. Anyways, I have informed Pep Boys that they have lost a customer, and anyone else who may read this, Id strongly consider shopping around first.Update...took to Big O a few days later and the alignment was done without replacing any tie rods, go figure. Vehicle now runs straight as an arrow no thanks to Pep Boys.

My boyfriend and I were very concerned about our car brakes and our safety so we brought our car here to pepboys to get them checked. They took advantage of his concern and told him he absolutely needed new brakes and rotors fast and said they were the cheapest to get them replaced. We didnt have the money right away and later bought 200$ brakes online. When taking the tires off my neighbor discovered that our brakes and rotors are in fact perfectly fine and that the back caliber is broken. We almost spent a lot of money here for them to replace perfectly fine brakes and for them not to tell us that the caliber is broken. They take advantage of people who might not have the best experience but lucky for us our neighbor is pretty good with this stuff.

Angelo and Alfonso are great. They helped get me back on the road quickly after some car troubles on the freeway. Excellent customer service! I recommend if you are ever in a pinch they have several mechanics and are happy to accommodate their customers.

Unfortunately I had a very bad experience with this establishment. I will say there are probably nice people and probably good mechanics that work here, but I didnt have the opportunity to deal with them.When my private mechanic went to change my break pads, pep boys had impact drilled my lug nuts on, so when my mechanic went to take them off a lug nut snapped. (Spoke with other professionals about this and they said you really shouldnt impact drill lug nuts on, it weakens them and forces them to much.)With one lug nut short I took the car back in to pep boys, they were the last to touch them. When we had had some work done on our tires.I agree with a lower post that the person at the front desk was very rude and acted like it was very much my fault because I hadnt rotated them on schedule. Lug nuts shouldnt snap off like that ever. He told me with a charge they could look at it. I refused to let them touch my vehicle again in the fear the they would take advantage and make their mistake worse.I asked to speak to a manager, turned out he was a manager! He said if I were to write a bad review it would not be a threat. Very rude.After, $200 and finding a MACHINIST to help me take my baring apart and back together, my car was back on the road.I would strongly not recommend Pep boys.Im sure there are good employees here and you might have a good experience. I did not.Also I know my car is older (01) and is going to have issues, but the way they handled this situation was very bad. I was willing to pay some but not $100+ as I was quoted for an issue that was not my fault.I would not like to talk to customer service about the issue, just be better Pep boys.

I went to Pep Boys a few days ago for an oil change, and as usual, I had a very pleasant experience. Juan Ortiz greeted me with a smile right away, and when I told him what I was there for, he said he would take care of everything and get me on the road again before I knew it. Juan explained the differences between the different types of oil that they have at Pep Boys, and he recommended the best one for my car and for my budget. I really appreciated the knowledge he gave me. The employees finished my oil change within an hour, and I noticed a definite improvement in my gas mileage after the service. I will continue to go to Pep Boys for all of my car needs, and I would recommend this place to everyone!P.S. Make sure you ask for Juan. Hes very helpful.

A big THANK YOU to manager Terry and very friendly clerk Tony, who helped me, when I rolled into the shop at 6:50pm on a tow truck with a flat tires and needing all 4 replace then and there. I have a Toyota Prius Touring, so the tire size is usually a special order, but they have several options on the shelves and were ready to help with with the best price. This is the second time I have bought tires from them for this very reason.Thanks again Terry for staying over after hours to get me back on the road and get me home. I went to Pep Boys to determine if my front brakes were under warranty and if they could check my rear brakes also. Chris Madayag greeted me and took care of everything so fast it made my head spin. When the inspection was finished he told me exactly what was good and what needed fixed. He covered everything...above and beyond...under warranty and gave me a good deal on the my rear brakes. Chris is truly a professional and one of the reasons I keep coming back to Pep Boys. The whole place is inundated with friendliness.

Went for an oil change on this date. Quite helpful and competitively priced. Took about an hour ( a bit slower than the quiky lube chains) but seemed to know what they were doing. Good to make an appointment if possible.

Went in for a normal tune up, I asked to put in a high grade spark plug. Got told that is not recommend and they were only going to put the regular spark plugs in. 4 months later My third spark plug wasnt firing right, checked it out and it was all burnt. Never ever let them talk you down when you know better quality. Wont ever be going back.

I called to see if I was able to get in for an oil change since it was closing in an hour and they said yes. I told them that I live in Atwater and I was on my way and be there in about 15 min. Well, I got there in 15 min and they told me they would NOT do an oil change on my car as it was too late. I explained to them that I called prior to coming there and they said we are not doing an oil change, needless to say I was furious!!! BAD SERVICE! NEVER GOING THERE AGAIN FOR ANYTHING!!!!! We had 4 vehicles that we took there on a regular basis....not no more!!!

I needed a new battery for my civic urgently and they were able to help me out right away considering I came in there last minute! Ashley Miller was super helpful and made sure I got a new battery for my car and that it was installed. She was very friendly and made my Pepboys experience awesome!

RUN!! DO NOT COME HERE!! RIP OFF! Bought tires from Tirerack.com and was having them shipped to This Pep Boys. I was told by tire rack Pep Boys would install all 4 tires for only $80. When I go in to schedule an appointment, the guy tells me $180 to mount and balance, plus an additional $90 for an alignment. I told them I was told $80 by tire rack but they were rude and wouldnt budge on the price. Thank God tirerack was still able to change the shipping address to my house, or else I would be screwed.

Ive come here a few times. Not sure why I ever came back. They are always very slow and they are sloppy with their work. Once they left a box of car parts in my vehicle after they finished. Another time, they fixed a flat tire, but didnt bother to fill it up with air! If you are looking for a auto repair/maintenance shop, you could do a lot better in Merced than Pep Boys.

Pepboys has unethical business practices, performs unprofessional services, and has zero liability for their negligence when they destroy your vehicle.On or about of February 20th 2019, I had called prior to debrief what service I wanted to be done to my car Oil Change. I provided them with newly purchased high quality oil, oil filter by Bosch and the additive. The additive is needed because newer generation of motor oils currently lack OEM specifications for older type of vehicles. I stated verbatim on the phone and in person before they rendered the service, place only 5oz of the 3x concentrate of ZDDP into my oil, which is also stated verbatim on the back of the bottle for this make and model.. They did the exact opposite, I witnessed them through the window putting the entire contents of the bottle in my car even when I gave clear and concise instructions. Immediately I spoke directly with their mechanic where I mentioned that from innumerous research that by doing so can cause severe damage to the catalytic converter, whom he responded that information was incorrect. Less than 2 weeks later, my car now guzzles 8 gallons of fuel within 80 mile trip plus no more wind coming out of my exhaust pipe. Diagnosis: Damaged Catalytic Converter. Pepboys happily declined to repair the inflicted damages to my vehicle.Enter at your own risk. Inability to read, inability to render adequate and professional services.

Look all over Merced for lug nuts to fit after market rims. After looking all over Merced they were the only ones that had what I was looking for. So glad they had them and at a good price as well. The only other place I could find them was on the internet. Thank you pep boys.

Kept trying to up sell things. My SO took my car in for me and told them to do whatever they usual did to it. Instead of standard oil change they used synthetic oil had to pay double the price for the oil change. Guy at the register was kind of a jerk and made it sound like my car was falling apart. Not coming here again.

During my visit at Pep Boys on the 15th of February, I was greeted by Chris Madayag. This young man was very busy and informed me that he would get to me as soon as possible. While waiting, I noticed that he was working really hard to accommodate customer’s needs. I had three customers before me and he asked for assistance but yet he was the only one that seemed to be able to handle all his customers in a timely manner and with respect. That is the only reason why I came back the next morning to get the tire. If it wasnt for his service I would have gone somewhere else.

This email is positive feedback for the phenomenal customer service I recently received from Ron White, General Manager, and Daniel at Pep Boys in Merced, California. On a prior occurrence, I, too, received outstanding customer service from Mark Angel. In short, I encountered two time-sensitive crisis situations during two drives from Merced on my way back to my final destination, namely Los Angeles. During each experience--the first time-sensitive scenario occurred in April 2014 with Mark Angel, and the second scenario recently occurred on November 11, 2014 with Ron and Daniel--I was provided first-class customer care under exigent circumstances. During each episode both occurring late night just prior to closing, Ron, Daniel and Mark were patient, professional, knowledgeable and, indeed, went the extra mile. Thus, I was compelled to take the time to submit these positive remarks. Quite frankly, I did not invite and had no desire to encounter car problems late at night while driving for hours, but fortunately each time, I was the beneficiary of consistent, outstanding service that is noteworthy. In my opinion, the Pep Boys personnel at the Merced, CA location are most deserving of positive feedback and should be recognized nationally throughout the organization. The costumer service is the worst. I went on time to my appointment and they made me wait for 2 hours. I also went to check my car (for lyft) they made me go back three times each time they tell me something new they told me to fix unnecessary things just to push me to buy from them, they are also expensive comparing to other car shops. I dont advice anyone to go there.

They will do anything for money. I tested my battery and they said it was no good then jumped to the prices of a new one, so then I went across the street and had auto zone test it and they said nothing was wrong with it at all, I asked if auto zone would test it a second time and they said once again it was a good battery.

As a past employee for this corporation let me help u with the tips and tricks for them. If you guess in the back of your mind that its ALL about the money to then your correct. To them its about profits and sales(sounds fair) But they go so far to forget about their customers and employees that drive the place. Sure you can get decent service with the right kind of people but were trained to up sell in EVERYTHING!!! The moment u step in no matter what your car problems are they will find sum idiotic reason to suggust u stuff that has nothing to do with why your their in the first place. Remember the more they up sell the more sales they make even at the cost for their unfortunate customers. Ill be wary on the service they provide down to managment to mechanics and service advisors doing some shady stuff that the customer doesnt even need. Ive seen brand new air filters changed just cause the customer said yes not cause it needed changed. Breaks my heart, ooh and they low wage their mechanics(ask the tech how their labor pay is lol) so services like OIL CHANGES, flat repairs, tire rotations and brake inspections pay basically nothing so the mechanics so incentive for fast,thorough service is never there. If you do want service i would suggust to get multiple quotes so youll have an idea on If they will probably try to pull a fast one.But no worrys the corporation just got bought off so hopefully this new company can set a new path for fairness both the staff and customers that make the business in the first place.
