Wonderful service and really good coffee. The everything bagel was really good, focaccia based. And the homemade raspberry pop tart was decadent. Would definitely recommend.
This is the most non-customer friendly experience I have ever had at a coffee shop. The coffee is decent, by rather expensive for what it was. BUT the 1-star rating is really for the customer experience.I am from out of town and I stopped in to have some coffee while on a 30 minute meeting for work. I arrived with enough time to order some coffee and get connected prior to the start of my meeting. All the tables have a sign indicating a 30 Min seating limit - which is rather strict, but I understand and it is their right as a business to set these types of limits. 10 minutes or so before the end of my meeting who I assume is the manager came by tapped on the table and advised me of the 30 Min seating requirement. There were 3 other open table and 4 chairs at the bar open for seating and no customers coming in our waiting for seating. While I respect their right to have a policy and enforce it, this particular experience came across as unfriendly and illogical. I will not be back.
Food is okay. People are rude. A person who I assume is the manager, sits in the back on his computer and comes out occasionally and barks at customers to move the line for placing orders. They are rude about the mask mandate and then make excuses about that. Of course there is a mask mandate. Understood. But there’s a polite way to handle that if you want to keep customers. And instead of having complimentary masks available when a customer didn’t have one, they lost a sale and probably a customer. The workers behind the counter are sometimes polite, sometimes rude, sometimes indifferent, sometimes all in one visit. You just never know what you’re going to get.
In a review further down, the management states that county regs require them to use force with customers. Oh boy, this is an understatement. As soon as we walked in the door, it felt like we were unwanted and didnt feel welcomed at all ... this was not at all the warm, Southern feel we were expecting when visiting from out of town. Everyone from the cashier to the coffee maker to the gentleman in the background acted as if theyd wished we werent there. Part of a coffee shop experience is feeling welcomed and belonged, but no way here! Total opposite ... we got the feeling of you have to be open to sell coffee to stay in business but we dont really want to be here... def not coffee house vibe in any way! Management, you called it 100% when you used the word force ... that is EXACTLY the feel we got!
I ordered a Grill Cheese Sandwich for lunch and was very very disappointed. The bread looked and feel like toast. The cheese was cold and not even a sign of ever being hot. The cookie was so hard I couldnt bite it and the pasta salad was Bland. For the cost of this meal. Its not worth it.
Good service. Fresh baked muffins, cakes, bagels, donuts, danishes, and more. Their breakfast is good and the coffee is fresh. The blueberry muffin definitely has real blueberries and the cinnamon muffin is amazing. For sure coming back.
Great breakfast sandwiches and the young man working was very helpful and personable! We enjoyed our coffee and smoothies with our sandwiches!
Not impressed. My “pop tart” crumbled, but I was glad there was an over abundant supply of raspberry filling to spread on the very, very dry cinnamon and sugar duffin(muffin & donut) . Our latte tasted like hot milk, kept wanting to taste the espresso and hazelnut. The caramel macchiato I had was super, thus 3 stars instead of two.
Bacon egg cheese biscuit and vanilla bean frappuccino absolutely delicious.. the coffee is really good as well as their pastries OMG... u have to try this place... Thanks BLUFF CITY COFFEE & BAKERY u guys are AWESOME🥰❤
The pastries were as delectable as all the photos and yelp depicted. However, the variety shown in ced pictures was not up to par. The coffee is strong for those of you who like the sorta thing. Overall, it was a lovely experience with a quaint atmosphere. I will be returning soon.
Great big delicious 😋 breakfast sandwich. Great 👍 coffee. Must stop before or after civil rights museum 😉
Good coffee, a little bitter. Employees were very rude with customers. A couple came in and the lady behind the counter couldnt hear him so he pulled his mask down briefly, and rather than politely asking him to pull it up, she was extremely rude and mean about him putting it back up before the transaction could proceed. I get private establishments being able to have their policies, but when it isnt a state retirement you should at least be remotely polite when correcting somebody.
Great coffee! Theyre just never open.
Where do I start. Well avoid the pickles if at all possible as it is like drinking a strong fermented vinegar. And the wonderful looking cake like, cookies are hard, old and flavorless. Don’t waste your $$$! I ordered a white chocolate Carmel iced coffee with extra caramel. I am not sure what I got but just tastedlike a extra strong plain iced coffee, no Carmel. Just FYI the chicken salad was tasteless and barely any of it on the sandwich with a limp piece of lettuce. For having such a high recommendation to try this place it was a huge and very pricy disappointment. But their lemon cookie was ok on a high note.
Wonderful gem. Great pastry, outstanding coffee. Highly recommended.
Nice local coffee shop. It was difficult paying $6.50 for a medium iced espresso drink. I really did enjoy it! The barista recommended the golden kelli. The chocolate chip cookie was also good. I was sad the stuffed nutella cookie was sold out since it was our last day in Memphis. Something to look forward to next time!
Fantastic find! Great coffee, great breakfast sandwich, great pastries!
Bluff City is great! I loved my white mocha and was excited to see they have a breakfast sandwich with veggie sausage - it was delicious! My family shared various baked goods which were also amazing including a homemade poptart, quiche, and muffin. This was our 2nd annual Memphis trip for my mother-in-law’s birthday, and the 2nd year to get coffee and breakfast here. Highly recommended!
They have amazing croissants and some really awesome pastry deserts.
They were closed, but the baked goods are uniquely tasteful.
This was my visiting this place i pass here on the way to work so today i decided to stop after ordering my food and coffee im checking out the showcase of cake i see a net in the display on top with the mini cakes so no one was in there at the time so i informed the cashier that there were nets in this she proceeded to act like she didnt hear me so i informed her again and she ignored me never again wil i be back no sir first and last time
Magnificent bagels only made better when incorporated with their breakfast sandwich with veggie sausage. Did I mention their coffee. It is a must stop whenever we travel between West Virginia and Texas.
Great lattes down by the river. One of my favorite spots to sit and relax.
Absolutely the rudest person making the coffee. Exactly what I enjoy first thing in the morning.
Overpriced, small interior. Good coffee though
Certainly a top place in the area. The staff was very welcoming and observant. They have so many good reviews for a reason.
Deliciously brewed! Worth the wait time!
Astronomically overpriced. Charm of a abandoned bus station.
Soo good! They had an amazing veggie patty that I got on one of their fresh biscuits - just delicious. I also recommend the Golden Kelli coffee! I was just visiting but I wish I could eat here all the time.
Great coffee shop atmosphere
I had a bad experience, it didn’t live up to the reviews and was pricey, but overall not bad.
My daughter and her friend love Bluff City! We made a quick stop on our way to Tuscaloosa, AL from KS a year ago and our daughter makes us stop every time we make the drive. They have enjoyed muffins, bagels, sandwiches, smoothies, and other drinks. We all love the Berry Lemonade! Nice big menu with many options. We dont drink coffee but it smells good.
My wife and I visited your store on south main on Sunday. The coffee was delightful, but we have two comments:1) We used a credit card that we had not used in a while and very soon thereafter mysterious charges started appearing. When I reported them, Citi commented that in such a scenario, the source was most likely the last use - your store. You may want to investigate that problem.2) we sat there reading our newspaper for a while and noticed quite a number of customers cycling through. Your attendant would come out and rearrange the chairs after visitors left, but in the 45 minutes we were there we never saw her wipe or disinfect a single surface. With the current pandemic, that is seriously irresponsible. Please put a procedure in place to keep your customers protected! The coffee was wonderful, but the rest was completely unacceptable.
I really enjoyed this place. I went there for coffee and a breakfast sandwich. The food was great, so was the coffee, and the service was excellent and friendly. Would definitely recommend.
The service was great, the food was fresh and delicious, It was awesome, Cant wait to go again.
Rude beasts behind the counter. Attitude. Generic environment. Would not repeat.
BLUFF CITY COFFEE IS MY JAM!! I love this place with all of my heart. A very cool, low-key place with great coffee, great cocoa, and great people. They are one of the few places that stocks Cashew milk, which is my favorite alternative to regular milk (Im lactose intolerant). I go here every time Im downtown and they never disappoint. There is a new location in midtown now too! Now if I can just get them to come to Bartlett life would be perfect :)
Solid little coffee shop with a wide selection of fresh bakery items and customizable sandwiches. Service was super speedy and no issues. Prices would average to slightly above average but the food was good quality.Several little table and chairs if you want TJ stay and enjoy your treats. It also looked like they sold take-home beans as well as full size pies and breads.
Sadly I have to change my review. Let me say that the person who made my coffee is amazing she did an excellent job. However my issue is with the cashier. I paid for my coffee and handed her my card and when she finished she put my card on the counter although I had my hand out. I said to myself she is busy I could understand that but disrespect is not underdstandable which I felt was grossly displayed as I watched her hand other customers behind me their cards and cash in their hand. So it was just me not her workload. I did not drive out of my way and spend money to be disrespected. They have lost a customer. I wont be back.
Great coffee. It’s hard to find a good bakery these days, and I have to say, this is not a good bakery. After spending $15 for an almond coffee cake, I couldn’t wait to return to our rented apartment to dig right in. After sawing through it (yes you must saw and not cut) my palate was treated to the quality and deliciousness you’d find in a week old pastry left uncovered and forgotten. The small quiche I purchased was bland and tasteless. So, I had the everything bagels as the last resort. What could go wrong there? Hardly a bagel in terms of texture- no chewy goodness- very bread like and with odd spices hardly befitting an everything bagel (do I taste oregano? Italian seasoning? Very odd). $43 for two coffees, 4 bagels, a coffee coke and quiche. Overpriced and frankly very disappointing. Update: I did get a refund promptly. Store manager did contact to resolve.
Great cookies!
If you live in the South Main downtown area, this is a great coffee shop within walking distance. Theres almost always a small crowd of neighbors, though the wait is short. Large offering of breakfast/lunch foods, my favorites are the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on a croissant and iced latte.
Omg great muffins
Very good coffee, get the Sausage egg croissant. Yummy!!!
We always look for a local coffee shop and love the unique options and personal touches. Huge appreciation for being within walking distance of Central Station and open so early on a Saturday when our overnight Amtrak train arrived! Thanks for the friendly service and excellent lattes.
So many choices and so much delicious coffee to try!! Their food is incredible too. One of my favorite spots if I want a place to chill out downtown. Great staff too!
Not a good place to get a good cup of regular coffee. Two nothing special coffes $9.00 would not mind that price if the coffee was better. Can not recommend this place.
The coffee here was spectacular and the bakery items were to die for. They have a bake sale at their other location on Fridays and I am definitely going to check it out. I highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a morning snack, light breakfast, or wanting to satisfy a sweet tooth.
Whenever I am in Memphis I stop here and Gus. They have great coffee and honestly the chocolate (or hazel nut spread) pop tarr they make? After the first one I walked 2 blocks enjoying it. I turned out and went back for a second. Gotta make sure its hot but if it is. Your in for a real treat!
Coffee is amazing, staff is friendly but I’ve seen the older gentleman make several breakfast sandwiches with no gloves on...
Excellent coffee and light breakfast options. The bacon, egg and cheese on croissant is AMAZING. Prices are a bit high (actually higher than my similar order at Philz when Im in the Bay Area), but Ill pay it for the convenience of being right next door.
Great coffee and bakery selection, so so many options. The 4 of us all got something different and were very satisfied. I would recommend the bagels!
They had such a good drink selection and the food looked so good but they had absolutely no gluten free stuff. But the drinks were good.
Tried the lemon gooey cookie, orange chocolate dipped, and strawberry chocolate dipped while here. All were great but the standout for me was the strawberry dipped!
I went to hang out before doing Santa minis for Memphis Moms Blog. I ducked in here to grab a coffee and breakfast, I got the pesto turkey roll heated...OH EMM GEE! I would eat that thing every day if I could. Coffee was great too. I’ll be back!
Right spot for coffee. The coffee is wonderful and they brew it in a traditional Italian way. The Barista is wonderful. Sara is so great at making drinks and does such a good job. The food is also very good and pastries are scrumptious. Highly recommended!
Cozy and inviting. Solid cup of coffee and to die for cookies. We came full and still managed to eat cookies.
Quick service, great drinks! The caramel macchiato and chai latte were on point. Friendly staff and charming atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.
This was a pleasant surprise! Very intimate and quaint! A refreshing change from the usual coffee chains! Ill surely come back!
Tasty eats. Drink was good as well. Only reason not 5 stars was it was a bit pricey and their WiFi didnt work even though I was logged in.
Great little cafe. Have made it my must hit coffee shop while here in Memphis. Coffee is brilliant. Its a little out of the core, about a 10m walk from Main and Union but a block from the National Civil Rights Museum and the Lorraine Motel where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot.
Its a coffee shop. Not a great location and the building is a little run down. It came highly recommended coffee shop to visit, but its obviously not a top tier coffee shop in Memphis.
One of the best biscuits I have ever had. Had the rosemary cheddar biscuit with cheese, chicken and an egg. I highly recommend.
We were so disappointed by the service here. We came in and stayed locally for a few days and decided to try it out and the lady at the counter was so rude it threaten to ruin our whole morning.
Barista and clerk were extremely friendly. Fresh and hot breakfast.
Very accommodating to my likes; very friendly. Good Americano. Limited with frappes so they had to get a bit creative, but did a Great job. Would recommend & would go back if in area.Nice selection (& looked yummy) bakery.
I have had many experiences here. I have read several reviews and not one time have I ever had an issue at this establishment. I notice one reviewer who was downright harsh. This coffee shop and eatery has never shown anything but love for all the customers I have seen come and go. I make sure I stop by every single time that I am in town. The chef there, Brent, has attended my every single need and request for my food. The servers there are spectacular, but I have to admit Haley is my favorite. I surely missed her in the past but she is back now. She makes sure my coffee is delectable. I am one of those customers that most servers hate, because I ask for changes, but at Bluff City I have never felt ashamed to ask for anything. Thank you so much for being a wonderful business that I love coming to and bringing my child to.
Hi in town for a short time Grown Towers Seattle recamended Bluff city cafe give a high 5 star coffee thank you Brenda from Australia.
Delicious homemade food. Coffee was better than Starbucks! Great staff.
Great coffee! I try to come every couple weekends to get some iced coffee before going to the farmers market. Their smoothies also are pretty good. I have yet to try their breakfast sandwiches though.
LOVE this place. It is so adorable. My type of coffee shop. Very spacious.
Ive had nothing but enjoyable experiences here and plan to keep visiting.
Delicious latte and banana nut bread. Staff is wonderful. Free wifi and a couple available outlets. Nice quiet environment to get some work done.
Was just looking for a quick coffee on my way to Arkansas. I was quite surprised by how good their iced coffee was. The chocolate gooey cookie is amazing, super soft with hints of lemon.
I really like this place. Their breakfast/lunch menu is pretty great. I recommend the veggie sandwich (w/ red peppers & portabella) and tomato soup (which is killer). Their baked good are always tempting (& delicious).
Our go to place when we are in Memphis! Amazing coffee and baked goods. Each coffee is made fresh when you order.
Great specialty coffee spot, pastries, breakfast items and sandwiches. People are always very nice that work here. Coconut, soy and almond milk available for coffee as well earns them 5 stars for a coffee ahop in my book!
Best coffee in Memphis😍
I do enjoy the coffee here, but its so expensive. The bakery items are alright, but I wouldnt go out or my way for them. The Golden Kelly coffee is great! Just cant justify the price for the things here.
Excellent latte. Good service. Great muffin. It was hard to resist all the great-looking baked goods.
Coffee and food were great. Good service and clean restroom.
I have only sampled their pastries from the Farmers Market so far but what Ive had has all been nothing short of heavenly. The cinnamon rolls, brownies, and our favorite - the chocolate caramel pie. Absolutely sinfully delicious!
Love the products and staff. Their lunch chicken pesto sandwich is a favorite of mine! Theyll also grind a bag of beans for your espresso machine at home. Glad to have this local coffee place in my backyard.
Everything was great. Wonderful local coffee shop. The sandwiches were made from bread made there! My only complaint is they dont offer any Fair Trade coffee.
See the price of the drinks are in my opinion way too expensive. And for us tours that calls himself coffee they dont actually serve any coffee its just espresso drinks and lots of things. They do have a good Bakery section with food. Because they dont have any drip coffee I give them two stars
This was an inviting coffee place a little ways from the main tourist area. The staff was very friendly & accommodating. Coffee is all espresso based. Great place
A nice small shop. Its a bit simple and there is very limited seating but the coffee and baked goods are great.
