After my plans to purchase a new vehicle changed, I decided I would stick with my Volkswagen Jetta and take it with me on a 16 hour drive, however there was an issue that made me nervous and every car place that I called either didn’t work on foreign cars or they didn’t have the equipment to check. I was referred to Extra Mile Imports and they were willing to help me out and squeeze me into the schedule on a very short notice. They were able to find the problem and fix it within a timely manner. This place was one of the most professional places I have been to in a while and I would 100% recommend this to anyone that is having car troubles.

We had guests come to town from Texas and their VW CC limped into town. Made a call to EMI and they said to bring it by. They had the part in stock and changed it while we waited. 15 minutes later we were on our way. Very honest, nice and fair price. Highly recommend Extra Mile Imports.

The people at Extra Mile Imports truly go the extra mile to help you. We were on a cross-country trip with our Sprinter Van, which has a diesel Mercedes engine, when we had a problem accelerating and going uphill. We called to tell Extra Mile we were coming in. They diagnosed the problem immediately and ordered parts from Kansas City, which came in the next day. They fixed the vehicle the same day the parts came in. We then drove the van 1,400 miles back to New Jersey with no problems. The price was reasonable too. I highly recommend them.

My experience with Extra Mile Imports was short but amazing. Took in my subaru for a problem but the guys there were honest and said nothing had to be done! Extra Mile Imports helps battle the controversy with unreliable auto shops and I will definitely continue to do business with them.

Briggs auto in Topeka had my husbands car for over a week and they couldnt find anything wrong with it, then told us they would need it for another week or so, and it would be around $500 for them to pull everything apart and look deeper to find the issue. So $500 up front BEFORE the part(s) and fixing the problem! We left. Someone told me about Extra Mile and how amazing they are. At this point my husband is deployed. I schedule a day to bring the car by and they called me within 2 hours of looking at the car! They told me what was wrong with it, and even later showed me the part and how badly broken apart it was! They were so nice and helpful. I really had no idea what was really going on with the car or how to explain it like my husband (lol), but they figured it out within the same day! They saved us so much money by not doing service with Briggs in Topeka. I highly recommend them! If you live outside of Manhattan I say its worth the drive (or tow) to get your vehicle there!

The engine light on my Mercedes came on about a week after I had gotten a major service done at the dealership in KC. Didnt have time to go to KC and someone told me about Extra Mile. I was in for a very pleasant experience here - very courteous staff, they perfumed the diagnostics and told me it was just a setting on the computer and no problems with the car and re-set the light. Did not charge anything. Very honest and competent place, strongly recommend. In fact will always take my MB here instead of driving 4 hours back and forth to KC.

I have a 1991 Audi 100. Having a 25 year old car is both awesome and difficult. Whenever I have an issue I take my baby straight to Doug. They do great work and are always very nice. I dont know very much about cars, but they never treat me poorly because of it. They work hard to find needed parts and get your car back to you in as quick a time as possible. I recommend them to anyone and everyone with an import car.

Best mechanic around. Definitely worth the drive from town if you have a European car. They always take the time to explain whats wrong and what the fix is, and will never try to sell you something you dont need. Theyve even talked me out of unnecessary repairs. A+! And theyre candy trays in the waiting area are out of this world.

Ive taken my 1984 Volvo there twice over the last two years and have been very impressed. The staff are not snobbish (like the Volvo dealer I went to last year) and have dealt very honestly, not trying to do more than was necessary, and taking the time to explain to me as much as I needed to know. Repairs cost lest than I expected, too. Exceeded my expectations all around. Im very pleased with this business and recommend it to anyone.

I have brought two vehicles in for damage to wires done by pack rats. Extra Mile Imports has done a fantastic job at a low cost. I highly recommend them because they are honest and dependable. Not to mention that they have wonderful customer service and treat you with respect.

I came here for my BMW 3-series because of good reviews I had read, and I wasnt disappointed. Both men I talked to were knowledgeable, honest, and personable. They found the part I needed for cheap, fixed everything up, and let me be on my way. There was something they couldnt take care of, and they gave me a couple references to places that could. Very satisfied with their customer service, expertise, and candy selection.

For years these excellent mechanics were located very near my home, and lucky me, I could always count on them to give me the advice I needed, and educate me about my car, as well as keep it running in good condition. The city took their location to build the Discovery Center a few years ago, and I started taking my accord to a different place, for convenience. Well, it is not convenient when the people you take your car to cannot do a competent job of keeping it running. I miss Dave and Dougs great service and kind advice. I intend on going the Extra Mile to be their customer again. Hope theyll have me!

Dave and Jerry are awesome. Like others have said, they are real salt of the earth people. Took my old beat up Audi there recently; they really woke up the engine and put a smile back on my face! Ill never take her anywhere else. You may wait for an appointment, but theres a reason for that-- they are worth their weight in gold.

I had them replace the timing belt and pulleys on my 2001 Volvo. They were patient and courteous in explaining the whole process and saved me money during the process. They definitely went the extra mile in gaining my business. Ill be coming back!

Would definitely go back to this service center when I need to for my VW Passat. I had a minor issue and when we called ahead, they quickly looked into their inventory if they had what I needed in stock. Found out they didnt so the gentleman called their warehouse and said it would be delivered within 20 minutes. Once I got there, I waited for a few minutes when a gentleman asked what I needed help with. Walked outside, assessed the issue, went back to the shop, fixed it and that didnt take more than 5 minutes. As I was ready to get back inside to pay the fee, he said, welcome to Kansas, come back when you have a major issue! Didnt expect it and it was a nice gesture. Great first impression and definitely will go back, for sure.Most important of course is the customer service received from the phone call to the actual service. It went much, much quicker than I anticipated.I would like to note that the place has a comfortable waiting area with a TV, plenty of magazines and treats. If I had to wait a while, I wouldnt have minded hanging out there.Thank you, Extra Mile!

Yet another great visit to the best shop for my VW, hands down! Ive never been to any auto repair shop that made me feel completely trust that they would always do top notch work on my baby. My 2014 VW gets every service done there, and my turbo VW is headed there next for the great guys, Jerry and Dave, to go through my car completely to see what repairs are needed and I dont doubt what their findings will be. It will be looked at there and no matter what,work is needed it will be repaired by them too.BIG plus Ladies who drive an import they love!! I found out about Extra Mile Imports after talking with the local Holms Chevrolet lead mechanic here in Abilene. I had called him to ask if they worked on Volvos and was informed no, but to check out Extra Mile Imports in Manhattan, turned out to be excellent advice.When I found their website, I called Dave and asked about getting a timing belt/water pump change on my 2007 Volvo. Dave was very nice and gave me a quote that also included the belt tension-er. I was impressed with his quote and we set up a date to take it in, I asked him about how long it would take and he informed me probably about a day.I wanted to know as I live in Abilene and would need to rent a car over there as I didnt have a back-up vehicle. I also understood the probably about a daypart as I have worked as a mechanic on many things for over 50 years and I know how things can go. My worries were groundless as Dave had the car done in half the time and was right on the money on his quote! He also saved me money on rental car fees.He has definitely earned my trust and business, I strongly recommend that you check Extra Mile Imports, they are impressive!

Cant say enough positive things about these guys. Doug has always been extremely helpful explaining things to me, and helping me decide the best course of action. I have never felt pressured or like it was shady at all. Ive taken a very finicky old Land Rover Discovery, Acura TL, Nissan Xterra, and a Porsche there and he has known all of the little intricacies and details of each car just off the top of his head. Best shop Ive ever dealt with.

Very reasonably priced and great guys

I could tell by my initial phone conversation that this place was worth a shot.We own a Volvo XC90 and dont have any Volvo dealers within 3 hrs of home.On the way back from a ski trip I was looking for somewhere to get a code reset (airbag fault).I called Doug and he said to swing on by.Doug had a very agreeable disposition and came right out and plugged in.Doug ran a quick Analysis and was able to reset the code and cautioned that it may stay clear for 10 minutes or 10 years.I went to go settle up and Doug quickly said that that was free of charge!!This is a rare thing these and I would have happily paid him $50 for the reset. The software isnt cheap from Volvo .. And what reason would he have to want my business being that I live nearly 6 hours away.Anywho it was pleasure to meet Doug and if I need serious surgery on the Volvo I may even consider taking it all the way to Manhattan Kansas to get it done!

Now that I have retired from the auto industry after 40+ years (still working full time elsewhere in a different industry), and no longer having a dog in the hunt as they say, I felt the need to respond to the negative post left by Marquis Knott. I am the Doug that others have referred to; I would have been the one who you dealt with in person and on the phone. A quick check of your repair order showed that you supplied your own parts, which is the equivalent of you going to work tomorrow with a 30% cut in pay, performing the same level of work, and being happy in doing so. We did use your parts, with the clear understanding there would be no warranty for this repair should problems arise down the road. The repair order also showed that both Dave and Ryan worked on your car- that means that both of them would have had to of screwed up. Nothing is impossible in the automotive repair world, but that is highly unlikely. As far as the Audi tech telling you we must of stolen your bearings and not done the work, there is no way I know that one can silence a noisy wheel bearing short of replacing same. Only one side was noisy; the bearing on the other side was replaced at your request as a preventative measure. As far as both bearings going bad, that also is unlikely. While not impossible, a more likely scenario is a misdiagnosis of which side was noisy. That would lead to a less than ethical technician claiming that both sides were bad just to cover his backside for eating the cost of the bearing and doing the labor on one side for free. Not saying that is what happened at the dealership, but it does occur. While not a common mistake in our shop, there have been a few times during the decades where we have absorbed the cost of a misdiagnosed wheel bearing.I also remember a wheel bearing replacement we did on an Altima around the same time as your Audi. Bearing was noisy again after several months of operation. As we supplied both the labor and the parts on the original repair, there was no question of responsibility- we fixed the car at no charge. Turned out that name brand bearing we installed had insufficient grease from the factory (sealed bearing, not feasible to check). I might suggest the next time you have a problem such as the above, call the shop in question first. I remember no calls or contacts from you, until this review appeared. Given the reviews from other customers, I feel all you have accomplished from your comments about Extra Mile and the residents of Kansas in general is a poor reflection upon yourself. There is an old saying that comes to mind- When pointing your finger at someone, just remember- there are three more pointing directly back towards you. Seems fitting....

Amazing service! I have a problem-some Volvo with a intermittent electrical issue, they thought they fixed it, but when it happened again they towed my car and checked it out and changed some spark plugs for free when they couldnt get it to reenact the issue. (No one can figure out the issue either).

Had brand new OEM wheel bearings installed here because the dealership was too far. With that said I had to get them changed by the audi dealership 2 months later and buy new wheel bearings. The techs suspected this shop kept my wheel bearings and didnt change anything. Just leave kansas as fast as you can

Had a problem with my 2010 Volkwagen GTI dying in the middle of the road on the way to work. Took a couple weeks for them to finally find the problem but luckily I had a spare vehicle to drive. They were very helpful and courteous to me and after finally finding the problem and that I needed to get the part direct from the dealer, they charged my battery for me then politely said there will be no charge. These people will be seeing as much business as I can give them in the future. Highly recommend!

It took me over a year to find this place, so if anyone is doing a Google search in the future: EMI is the place in Manhattan, Kansas for service of foreign cars especially German cars such as VW, Mercedes, BMW, and Audi as well as other European vehicles such as Volvo.These guys really know their stuff, are the nicest guys you could meet and, if you ask any dealer around town about them, you will hear glowing praise. Im leaving Manhattan at the end of this month and EMI is one of the things Ill miss most about this town.
