We love being next to this place! The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Always have interesting things! Great place to stop for a soda or candy. Samosas and other fresh Indian dishes available for a quick lunch too!
Maharaja is my go to place for all my Indian food needs and I am very happy with their service. Even when I havent found an item, theyve gotten it for me in their next supplies every time. Very accommodating owner and their staff.
I love the owners here! They are soo friendly and helpful! The selection in the store is also amazing! I highly recommend shopping here!
Be careful with prices at this place, recently we purchased whole pepper SMALL packet and they charged $8.99 and can you believe same product which is 3 times bigger and branded one we got from Indian Groceries shop for $8.99. You know this shop is packing one big packet in to 3 small ones making 200% profit?? Yes it is agreed for your efforts you can make reasonable profit but not 200%, watch out in this place.
MAHRAJA GROCCERY STORE IS THE BEST INDIAN GROCCERY STOREFRESH VEGETABLES EVERY WEEK PRICES ARE LOWER THAN ANY OTHERGROCCERYSTORE GREAT PLACE TO SHOP
Ive never searched for exotic ingredients before. Ive also never been treated so well by a store clerk. These guys opened their doors when they got there (early), and they grabbed all the things I asked for, for me. Thanks again guys!
Great place to shop with very helpful owners. the owner makes some of the best tikka masala in Madison.
Echoing other people, you should add up the price of the items that you intend to purchase as you shop, and pay very careful attention to the cashier as items are entered, and be prepared for confrontation when you go. Or you could just order online, or go to an Islamic grocery store that carries Indian goods.I recently paid $14 more for my items than they were listed at. This is the fourth time in my memory this has happened. The receipt doesn’t list items individually, so you have to catch this as it happens. Then you have to make eye contact with the cashier and accuse them of overcharging. This makes me very uncomfortable. In my culture, the listed price is the price, no surprises. If you need more money, you increase the listed price.
$2 for a bottle of Aquafina? Maybe they think Americans can afford 150% profit margins. Don’t shop here.
Veg curry was unrecognizable and awful, and not cheap, either. Will not be back.
An excellent selection of indian spices and foods. The owners were friendly and very helpful.
Friendly owners that make your shopping experience fun and pleasant. They help you with recipes and how to use products. The store is very clean and they have plenty of inventory to pick from. It is a favorite place of mine. I highly recommend! Reasonable priced as well!
Cool! Neat little store, they pack a lot of varied items into a small store footprint. Just wandering the aisles looking at all the neat items makes me want to cook more. There were very nice looking fresh vegetables and fruits. They had frozen chicken and goat meat, looked very good. Nice bright store. Many different food and sauce mixes available. I also noticed they had beer, wine, liquor and cigarettes.
I mean this was a highly painful experience, Only the last(ofcourse the final) time.Delivery was made on time like promised ;) and missed a couple items which I ordered. I called them to notify about it the next day. The owner was pretty cool by thanking me for the notification and dropped down the phone right away!Thank you very much! One year customer, finally moving out to a better store!! 💯🤝
Always a great experience when I go in. Very friendly and helpful. As someone learning to cook Indian food, they are very helpful and willing to answer questions about different foods. Lots of variety and good quality products. Will continue to shop here!
Its great having an Indian grocery store on the East Side.
I have been living in Madison for 20 years, back in old days there were no Indian grocery stores in Madison at all. After few years we got this Maharaja Grocery store. Since then I am a regular customer to that store. I see the progress of the store when the ownership got transferred to the current owner. Ever since the current owner, Rohit, took up the store, I see tremendous improvements customer service and quality of products. Rohit and his family is very customer service oriented people, they give utmost respect to the customers. Personally I am impressed with quality of product they sell, and that too for that very reasonable prices.I have been to other Indian grocery stores in town, but none can match Maharajas quality and customer service. If you are looking for quality Indian products for a reasonable prices, I STRONGLY recommend to go to Maharaja Grocery store.
Very good collection of Indian stuff with good pricing. Owner is very Heplful and try to co-operate in every way possible. Highly recommend this place.
I love this store. They are friendly, helpful, and offer good suggestions for what spices to use when cooking various items. The selection is fantastic!
Great store. Very helpful. Needed help on how to make a curry for two sets of people in our family. Some like spicy, some do not. How do you add spice after youve made the dish? This way I dont have to make two separate batches. They had an answer and the products to help. Also needed to know how to make a Mango Lassi. They had the ingredients to help and gave me instructions. Prices are a tad high, but I got a ton of value out of their hands-on help and advice. Well worth it.
Great place to shop for India groceries. Fresh vegetables.Owner is very friendly treats customer with great respect. Some times if we are not able to locate an item, he will quickly stop by the customer and will help finding the things. Get good deals on festive items during festival season like Diwali, Dushera etc.
In such uncertain times with Covid-19, owners of Maharaja grocery are keeping upmost care to protect customers. For eg they started doing pick orders only in the start so the grocery in the shop is not exposed to common public. Secondly after they recently opened for walk-ins, a mask is necessary and only limited amount of people are allowed at once. For groceries, they have a wide variety of Indian product line, which is amazing. Also, they always have fresh veggies. I really love the baked samosas they sell. For customer service, they always are very polite and attend to customers queries and help them out.Lastly, I would say keep up the good work Rohit and Mamta! Thanks,
Wonderful selection and the absolute best owners. I happily recommend the Maharaja Grocery!!!
Neat and clean store. Well organized. All Indian spices are available. Friendly service.
Ive visited Maharaja grocery multiple times. The store is set in a great location. There is a variety of items. They have fresh vegetables, rice, flour, snacks, spices, lentils, and even fresh homemade curries and samosas. The customer service is very kind. They are always helpful and offer the best prices.
There’s a nice variety of items. The store is very clean and organized. The owners are caring and helpful. Rates are reasonable. Overall the store is a great place to be.
Nice Indian grocery store on east Madison. The variety at the store is pretty vast and rates are reasonable compared to other stores. Owner is very friendly and helpful. Store is very clean and organized.
They have a good selection of items. Good Indian food and treats and fresh fruits and vegetables and lots of rice to choose from and different selection of flours, desserts and drink items and those friendly customer service. Freshly made curries or dishes upon request that is available.
Great selection of Indian grocery staples, both dry goods and frozen foods--they have EVERYTHING you need to make an authentic Indian meal. They also have homemade entrees available for purchase. Staff at the register can be hit and miss . . . first visit there was a couple who were super friendly, but on our next visit, the young woman didnt greet us or even thank us.
Nice owner excellent customer service clean store
Great place you will most likely find anything you need. It’s local and family owned business will recommend.
Very clean and nicely organized store. The store has a lot of Indian grocery varieties at truly reasonable rates. Owner is very caring, never lets you feel neglected. Every time I go to this store, I love it more.
Been going to Maharaja for a while and it has always been a good experience. Both the owners are very friendly and helped me find what I was looking for. The selection of fresh vegetables and frozen items is very extensive, they also bring in specific items ahead of corresponding festivals. While there, do not forget to get some home cooked food which is really tasty and healthy!
Neat and clean but grocery Item bill always looks dubious as there is no Item new mentioned, It just says grocery Item. Not a good practice. Sometime it felt they are charging excessively
Love this grocery, we love the dishes that they bring over from the restaurant that you can buy!
Great shop for Indian Grocery... owners are very supportive...
The owner is very rude and will kind off yell at you on the phone. I am hoping there are better places in madison for indian groceries
I wish the owners would realize that they are doing no favors by not listing prices for most items. Spice boxes are together on one huge shelf with only one price to be found anywhere underneath them all (about 25-30different ones)—$1.79. I picked several different ones thinking they’d be that price or at least close to it. However, i realized after walking out of the store that I was charged $1.79 for one, then $3.99 for the other spice boxes I purchased. This is very rude and I feel it was intentionally deceptive. I will not be returning.
Really good selection and the owner is always super kind and helpful.
They sold spoiled vegetables with mold. Also the prices are jacked up.
High price and low quality old stock.
The store is very clean. The owners are very nice and helpful. They have a great variety of items to choose from. Store is in a good location.
Good place for all indian groceries. Wide selection of products
Great place, great service, and wonderful food.
Good place in East Madison for Asian groceries. Store is neat and very organized
Good variety of items, everything was super over priced; in addition the man at the counter made it very clear that he was watching and following me through the store. Very rude and made for an uncomfortable shopping experience.
Nice store with interesting spices. Owner was very helpful
Lovely hosts and what a great range of produce at super prices. Those of you shopping at Whole Foods or Willi St Coop for Indian spices will save 80% going to this store. Fresh Indian vegetables, sweets, breads pre-made, big bags of rice and huge tubs of yoghurt
The service is usually friendly, the selection is wide, and there are so many amazing spices. The typical reason I come is to buy paneer - they have a frozen variety which is flavorful but thaws very slowly, so I typically buy the refrigerated kind. However, the frozen stuff is the owners favorite - on one visit into Maharaja he told me all about how it tastes exactly like paneer he bought in India as a child. Great place, be sure to also check out the wide variety of Indian breads!
Good Enough for temporary Indian grocery needs. NOT at all suggested for regular purchases. The rates are usually 30-40% more when compared to any Indian grocery in town.
Very helpful and willing to guide you if you have no idea what you are doing.
Fresh veggies. Be prepared to pay more - its overpriced here but then there are not a lot of Indian grocery stores in Madison.
Great shop for Groceries.
Great place and great prices!
Moved here recently. Went to shop there and experienced very bad customer service. Store owners are rude and very unprofessional. Not sure how are they running a business. I will not recommend this store to any new or existing customers.
Good Indian store on the east side of Madison. Owner is very friendly and store has family touch to it which you miss when you are out of India
Good place for indian groceries
I have experience which is bad. I never see expire date in Many item. Non of the sweet doesnt have the expire date. Also I got few other stuff which does have expire date. Also noticed one thing which I felt very bad. I have visited that shop many time. There is one board in rest room alway. Out of order. I figured out thay they purposely put that board. I started asking can I use it, they use to allow me saying there is small problem but use it now. This happens all the time. Very cheap behavior. Pls look for expire date. Ask if you dont see.
Owner was rude and disrespectful. Just make sure to double check your bill.
Staff is always helpful and pleasant!!
Always Stocked well, the Owners are friendly & helpful & the selections are great!!
Great place for Indian groceries!
3 times to 4 times price than Patel Brothers.
Nice indian restaurant
An ideal place to get perished groceries and meet some of the rude & arrogant people that too at our cost.We bought a 2lb Sujata Multi Grain wheat flour a week back. Upon reaching home and unpacking the flour bag, we fond the product was extremely perished, there were worms(pests) in it. Detailed examination of the package revealed that they have tampered with the expiry date of the item in the packet and sold it to me an exorbitant price. After a day when I returned to the store and explained this case to the owner of the store, he was so arrogant and rude and never accepted his fault and was not ready to give me refund or exchange.I found the other remaining packets of the same product in the store was also tampered with its expiry date.Seems like this guy is not bothered about anything and challenged me to do whatever I can.I am learned that this guys uses these bad products to prepare food in his westside restaurant tooHis grocery shop and restaurant should be closed. I am moving a formal complaint with Department of Agriculture and Public health department too
Pretty good food, clean restaurant.
Great selection and acceptable prices
Thanks for still serving in this pandemic
Not very nice. It feels neglected.
Not a guys place for grocery. Very expensive and do not have good collection either.
Nice owners, courteous service.
