A real treat to have in the downtown area. The store is well stocked and has even expanded its offerings to include a deli in recent years. They have plenty of local options to choose from and that is appreciated.I havent used their delivery services, but I see their cars around a lot, so it seems like people love it.Side story: they have a Coinstar there and I had an amazing time depositing my coins. First off, I had way too many coins saved up from well over a decade. It took me over 10 minutes to get all the coins in the machine. I had 799 dimes (!!!) and 1,754 pennies (!!). Anythings I try to complete the transaction but it shows an error! Thankfully it let me know that my coins were safe. I walked to customer service and told them I had a problem with the machine and he grabbed his keys and a brought a newer staff member with and back to the beast we went. After explaining that there are two keys, he showed how to open up the machine. Then, he located the error message. The Hopper Sensor is dirty read the machine. I thought that was hilarious. I asked if this happened often and he chuckled and said, No, not really. Anyways, he cleaned the hopper sensor and soon I had my money!
Prices arent top tier like Woodmans but the staff members here are great and theres a good selection of items for a smaller store. I always love a trip to the market ♥️
We were passing through and found this little gem. For a small little store there is a lot to offer. If you are near and need something stop in. Make sure you get some of the chocolate milk in a glass bottle they sell. It is so good.
I dont go there much. It seems like a good store . I stopped for batteries.
Convenient place to pick up stuff when I am visiting my friends house
I get most of my food here good spot to shop 😳
Wrote an email to the General Manager about some concerns of mine. The man never got back to me. Shows how much the GM/employees care about their disgusting location. Dont shop here.
My favorite spot to go to whenever I’m in the rush… Usually have everything I need from snacks to anything to make a complete and full meal. Thanks you guys!
Remodeling great...😃😀😁😊😐
Way larger than it looked from the front door and a pretty good beer selection
Can’t beat the 24 hr availability for anything.Your child is sick, cough syrup? Yes!Fire alarm New battery? Yes!Got back at 2 am from delayed plane arrival, need milk for morning? Yess!GRRRREAT!
A truly solid grocery store in the capitol area. Covers most basic needs and supplies while also having a nice deli and surprisingly good sushi. Manned by a consistently pleasant staff.
Nice grocery store in downtown Madison. Could be a little bigger but overall I got what I needed.
Prices are steep since its downtown but they have good sales regularly.
Staff could be more friendly.
Great little market..great foods and selection
Just a good place....staff always helpful...set up well, .
Great food and will stock anything you want.
Cap center is great! They have decent prices and a wide variety of items. Would highly recommend over ~other~ area grocery stores.
They do not sell cream cheese wantons
Excellent small neighborhood grocery store. Great produce, deli and bakery. Patronized mostly by Uw-Madison students and retirees living in the nearby senior housing. Friendly, helpful staff. Many if not most of the patrons are on foot, which brings me to the main negative: the parking lot is tiny, the spaces really tight. Bring your Honda Fit, NOT your Chevy Suburban!
Pretty great place with lots of items.
The staff is very helpful and friendly. But management team is the antithesis of quality customer service. When an employee was speaking to me in a rude manner, I asked to speak to the manager. Their response was, “I am the manager.” I then asked to speak to their manager. With a roll of their eyes, they lazily pointed to a random person, whom I had to ascertained was in charge. While speaking the general manager, I was met with the same customer service (or lack thereof). They were not interested in listening, helping, or answering any questions. They actually walked away, while I was still attemping to speak with them. The general staff is always a pleasure to work and interact with. I wish the same could be said for the managers I encountered. They set a poor example for staff, don’t offer any help, and create an unpleasant experience for customers.
If overpriced was a store this would be it. Once I actually had a worker try to legit fight me because I politely asked him to move. The store did absolutely nothing to hold this man back and out of my face. They dont wipe ANYTHING down Ive NEVER seen them wipe any surface down and are often out of cleaner wipes. Yet they have a policy that my girl cant set her bag on the counter (that they dont clean anyways)
Great employees, very friendly. I always get the help I am looking for!
OPEN 24 HOURS apparently means 7AM to Midnight
Top the best place market
I love going here. They have good quality ingredients. Because of the high traffic small inventory volume theory here, everything stays fresh. I love having a recipe and being able to just stop in and pick up whatever I need to cook. With the new deli, I am here 5 times a week. the deli brought cap centre to the next level.Great place to get your groceries if you live locally!
Conveniently and thoroughly servicing the greater Mifflin/State St area. They should pay their employees more though, most of them seem to hate their jobs.
Good variety and the location is convenient
Poor Covid Practices. The isles are way too small, no direction for customers to even attempt to control the flow of traffic. No hand sanitizer available. Took forever for employees to even wear masks. There is absolutely no way to socially distance in this store and the owners don’t seem too interested in figuring it out.
Great little market near work. The BEST California rolls in the entire city fresh daily by 10 a.m. packaged fresh meat for one person. Love single fresh marinated chicken breasts or single pork chop. Easy parking. In and out in 10 minutes.
Very clean and well stocked
Great selection of all needs for making any type of meal.
A great little grocery store.
Its a great store, right in the heart of Madison
They probably have what you need, even specialty items, but likely with not as many options/ brands. Most items are overpriced, but you pay for the convenience of the location. Service is fine.
Really rude woman at the counter. There have been three instances when she has misbehaved with us till now. Didnt arrange our stuff in the bags. We had to do it ourselves while she was really nice to the customer behind us. Would rather go to fresh where students feel comfortable. Was a regular customer for a year( good value for money), but will have to reconsider going there .
Some of the staff is wonderful but all in all there is not much help for the people who really need it. It used to be better customer service based wise will never shop here again.
Today i came in for the first time. They seemed decently busy, but they had the staff to handle it. Everything there was great the warm deli food tasted delicious . The only reason i dont give a 5 star rating is because there was nothing extra special that stood out to me. And no employees had a smile. Maybe id have given a 5 star review if someone had smiled or acknowledged my presence.
A little expensive but being in the neighborhood its convenient. Very good customer service.
APT, store 1/2 block from apts so walk for food bundled up in cold weather with ice trax on shoes - SENIORS especially safety first.
A nice, full-service grocery store within walking distance to apartments.
Don’t shop here. They only allow exchanges for a “defective product” - no exceptions. If you accidentally grab the wrong item and return it immediately, no exceptions. I’ve never experienced a more stringent policy. The manager and staff are extraordinarily rude.
Nice little market downtown Madison
Only go here if you have to. There’s definitely better places to shop a couple minute walk down the rode. I don’t like this place, it’s too crowded and dingy.
Cap Centre is the best alternative to Fresh. Their store is clean and has a lot of variety given it’s size. I plan on making this my regular store 😊
I shop here often and I found it to be the hidden gem of my neighborhood. I find the prices to be pretty fair (the deals can be great too) and their deliver always comes on time. The store is super clean also and the cashiers are always prompt. Easiest 5 stars Ive ever given!
The staff here are great. Ive gone multiple times and seen them help people with disabilities walk through the store and shop with them. That is really great to see! The Fetch Rewards app is a bonus on top of good prices to begin with. If you dont know how to use the app, ask the staff. Its really easy and fun.Open 24 hours, small market with all your necessities, helpful friendly staff and good prices. Easy to walk to or there is a small parking lot.
This place has been here forever and has recently gone through an expansion to offer a broader shopping experience. While there are fewer options compared to bigger places, I make it a point to shop here because of how long they’ve have been here, the great relationships they have in the community, and how close it is to home.
Conveniently located grocery store a few blocks from Capitol Square. It has everything you need. Prices are fair. Parking is available next to the store. Good selection of fruit and vegetables as well as cooked hot meals.
Cap Centre is the best small grocery in the city. Produce dept is great. Always stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables. The meat dept has a USDA Prime butcher. If you want special cuts just ask. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Prices are affordable and there is always a free item with $20 order. Oh yeah THEY DELIVER
Convenient location. Open 24 hours. Good discounts for students, and everything is reasonably priced. My go-to grocery store while I was in school.
Great CENTRAL location! Awesome selection of products. Friendly staff. And open 24/7!
Staff has been doing a great job at taking care of customers during this time. The store is always stocked with a container of disinfectant wipes in the front for customers to use.
Convenient place, prices arent too bad, and selection is decent. Service and produce could be much better.
Very convenient location if living in West downtown, decent selection but dont come here for specialty items
Great food. Great service!
Great place to get groceries and such, and still be down town!
A very nice, well-run store with good variety and decent prices. Open 24/7 and offering free delivery on orders over $40 - - - but it also will dispatch a clerk to walk a disabled local patron home with his purchases for free regardless of the total (I think.) A limited produce section dueto its small size but it has the essentials and what it offers is always kept freshly replenished. Its only failing is that it will occasionally advertise items in its circular that it doesnt have in stock (It doesnt run out, it just never gets them in.) and will not offer substitutions in accommodation. (E.g. It wont sell you three individual items at the discounted price of the nonexistent three-pack.)This fault notwithstanding, the Capitol Centre Market, of all local businesses, is the most essential - - - and much appreciated - - - resource of downtown residents
This place is the best. If you spend over $20. You get something you can use for free. Great staff, local American business
Good program to donate by rounding up, nice variety of products and professional staff.
Best price for Sassy Cow milk downtown. Not the best price for produce.
Great selection and comfortable atmosphere
Convenient if youre staying downtown. Prices are decent. Good selection of deli meats and salads. Produce was lacking in quality and freshness.
Very good selection, much better than other downtown grocery stores like Fresh, and the prices are almost always cheaper as well. There are a few things that are priced considerably higher than the competition though, like their almond butter which is easily twice what Fresh charges.Regardless though, its a phenomenal grocery store and its central location means its one of the best options for students living on or near state street.
Engaging employees to a fault. Up beat and focused. Real humane vibe. Always leave with some kind of smile. Puts forth much about the future generation. Thanks Five stars to one if Mitch installs humanless checkouts
Prices are more expensive than a big chain like Walmart, but the selection and quality is awesome. Well worth a stop.
Its my neighborhood store if closing convenient. Most of the employees know me by name. If you watch the seals you get a good deal.
Cap Centre is such a great grocery store. Small but stocked with most of my favorite things. Nice neighborhood atmosphere, feels cheaper than other downtown grocery stores like Fresh Market.
Lovely little grocery store. Very convenient
Very central location, and one of the few places that is open 24 hours. Not a massive space but they have just about everything you’re looking for at the grocery store. Much better prices than Fresh Madison Market, and much closer to the downtown area. Friendly and helpful staff, overall a great grocery store, and one of the few you can find downtown!
This place is good for what it is, a down-town Market. With a limited but well thought out selection. They dont have everything, like a butchers counter, or a bakery, but they do have everything else you could use for your home otherwise.
Clean, convenient grocery store in the heart of downtown. Open 24 hours a day, and very reasonable prices considering their location. Staff are always professional
Although theyre arguably cheaper and much nicer than some of the other downtown grocery stores in Madison (like fresh), theyve recently renovated their store to remove the cashiers and replace them with poor quality checkout machines. Its turned my favorite place to go shopping into a pain, and Ive all but stopped going there. This isnt a terrible store but its definitely getting worse.
This place is better than I rated it but I just wanted to share something very important, they are selling stuffed clams that if you bite into have loose fragments of the clams within the filling and you will seriously crack your teeth on themI just did.
Great supermarket downtown. Has anything youd want and prices are actually much better than most places in Madison oddly enough.
Nice, small market with a wide variety of items for sale. Very convenient.
For a small market in down town Madison, Cap Centre does a great job of serving its customers in the neighborhood. This is not the place to come if you are shopping for a large family but for its size, they have an amazing variety of things to choose from. As another reviewer commented, shop their sales and its cheaper than Woodmans. They also make manufacturers coupons available to customers taped to the shelves near the products! Ive never seen another store do this.Everyone who works there is friendly. polite and helpful. They do free deliveries and the best part for me as a disabled senior citizen is that living in the building next door they will do a carry-out right to my apartment door if I have bought more than I can safely carry. Great service!
Friendly employees and nicely staffed for a small store. Locally owned. High quality food.
Local place with good selection and great people. I live nearby its great to be able to go here I need something at any time. Been shopping here for 10 years (and counting) and rarely go anywhere else!
Used to go here a lot to grab a quick lunch since my job was around the corner. Impressed by the selection for a smaller sized grocery store but the prices on certain items was ridiculous,
Nice little place! Love the remodel. Good prices and decent selections.
24/7, great sandwiches, takes EBT
The have no deli, which is coming. And the owners are great people. If it could be as Progressive has a Lake Mills store it would definitely be five stars
It is closest market to my apartment, so I often visit here. I find Fresh Madison Market fresher and larger. This market is pretty small, but has everything you need.
Nice small town market and open 24 hours 7days a week which is really fantastic. A bit pricier on some items so not where I would do big shopping but convenient location and friendly staff!
Friendly staff, deli fresh sandwiches and open 24/7. What more could you ask for?
Old school. Give em love and dont go to Fresh.
They have everything
Good food that is completely overpriced. Cramped with a very limited selection of other foodstuffs. Two people can barely get by each other in the aisles. You go there in a pinch but do not shop there for your regular grocery needs. Then at the cashier they ask you for donations to some charity. Not something I think they should be asking.
While it’s nice to have another option for groceries downtown, if budget and selection are major concerns of yours save the heavy lifting grocery shopping for somewhere else.I moved downtown last year, and I come here about once a month and usually just for an item or two in between major purchases at Woodmans (using their delivery service). It’s a fairly large store and I understand that Dorn’s True Value hardware store located next door is closing to allow the grocery’s store to expand even further. You are likely to find the essentials here, and they also sell beer, wine, flower bouquets, and ready-made food (prepared in-house). I would say the prices are comparable to Fresh Madison Market- about as reasonable as you’ll be able to find downtown.
Fun place to shop, they have everything you want and its quick to get around. Plus the whole store smells like good coffee for some reason.
I like the staff at the capital market they are nice to me! great location to go.
Staff are exceptionally friendly! I appreciate them. It is awesome they have the Fetch app and are open 24 hours.
Decent place to do groceries. The selection isnt great, though the food that they do have is pretty fresh. Its nice and close for the folks that live downtown.
I cant believe they can cram so much stuff in that store. Very convenient
This store is quite small, so it is really easy to run in and pick up one or two things. Prices are very fair, and the staff is very friendly. Try it! Youll like it!
I have shopped at this grocery store for a few months now, it is very convenient but the service is mediocre at best. Today I bought a 6 pack of beer from the store and when I opened it up there was a bottle completely shattered inside. The manager informed me that unfortunately our store policy is not to allow returns on beer and made no effort to compensate me in any way, despite the fact I came back 10 minutes after my initial purchase. Expected them to let me return it and grab a full 6 pack no questions asked
Great store. Lots to choose from. Best meat manager John! Will definitely to back!
