Friendly? No. Zero personality, frankly. Never seen a smile, kind word or asking a customer a question -- dry as desert personalities. Thats OK, but seems to dislike interactions over about ten seconds causes constant misunderstanding. Honest? Only they know, they dont explain anything or prove honesty, EVER. Dont explain bill when paying. It is like religion, you just believe. Disorganized? Yes, condition of the place is off-rails, but worse, no computer system, it is 1968 there. Can go there for years -- they WONT know you, your name, nor have any clue what they did previously for any of your cars. Change car, you are a new customer. No tracking anything. Even worse: No advice on what to consider fixing in future. No safety inspection, NO checking issues past your original concern. You went here when other places found problems and estimates seemed high. You describe that issue, they fix only that as if they are sub-contractor to inspection shop for that one issue. PRICE was ONLY reason you went here. Price now equal to other small shops as of 2019-20.

SCAMMERS! AVOID AT ALL COSTSSummary: they said they knew what was wrong with my car and offered to fix it with a guarantee that if the replacement didnt work, I didnt have to pay. Employee/owner BLEW UP at me for denying to pay when the issue wasnt fixed.I went to get a diagnostic test on my car for $140 for an issue I was having. They were confident they knew what the issue was and offered to fix it but only with the promise that they could fix it, and if not, I dont have to pay anything.We went ahead and replaced the faulty parts. Again, they GUARANTEED that if the issue was not resolved I would not have to pay anything, and I made sure that they knew of this fact before going ahead. Why would I pay for repairs that they said was the problem only to end up not getting anything fixed?The day comes when I go to pick up the car - they replaced the coil packs. Surprise, the issue was not resolved.Suddenly, the employee (the owner?) sneakily tries to spin their promise to get me to pay for the coil packs and not have to pay for any labor because the problem wasnt resolved. I politely told him that I was guaranteed that if the problem was not fixed, I dont have to go forward with anything, especially a replacement of something that turns out to not even be the issue. He was nice the entire time, until that moment when he suddenly flipped on me, saying You know what? DONT EVER COME BACK HERE AGAIN! He began shouting at the top of his lungs, I was so caught off guard. This was in front of other customers, too.AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I wasted $140 on a diagnostic test that was inaccurate, only to be forced to pay for repairs that didnt even fix the issue. After shouting and cussing me out, he angrily ordered them to put back the old parts.

Husband and I have been going here for years. Jae is a honest and knowledgeable mechanic that does great work at a reasonable price. This establishment is busy for a good reason so even if there is a little wait (which isnt too often) we have not been disappointed with the service, cost and time of completion.

Been going to Japanese Auto Care for years. Theyve worked on all my cars including a 1994 GMC Safari that had its electric windows fail. Jae is simply the most honest mechanic out there...had an ongoing problem with air conditioning on our Santa Fe and he patiently trouble shot the problem till he found the leak in an insulated pipe...now that took perseverance! His prices are super competitive...trust me, I check and they are typically lower for the work being done than anything anyone could consider standard. Others who have offered a five star review are not exaggerating...Jae and his crew are the best! If youre just no good at figuring out how to fix your complex automobile, youll be lucky to find a mechanic you can trust....if youre really lucky, youll find Jae and the folks at Japanese Auto Care.

I love these guys! They fix things the old-school way, using experience and ingenuity. I couldnt figure out what was wrong with the charging system in my truck, and they found the alternator was working, but barely putting out enough charge. They freaking REBUILT mine using other parts, saving me a ton and getting it running like new! And it still looks stock, which is awesome! They charged me a very fair price I was happy to pay. Nobody else runs business this well or this ethically anymore. Love them!!

This has to be one of the most knowledgeable and well run car shops in the Seattle area. They specialize in Japanese cars but do a great job with any car. The owners continuously bring a great level of service and ensure to tell you exactly whats happening with your car. I have even brought them cars I have looked at buying and they have done inspections for me at little or no cost. I will continue to bring them my business even though I now live in Seattle.

If you dont already go here, I highly recommend this place! Be prepared for the full parking lot full of cars, but dont let that deter you, mine was fixed the same day.I took my car into a shop in Bellevue to get a quote on fixing my windshield wiper motor since they refused to move when I turned it on. The mechanic said I need a brand new transmission for my wiper blades for a pretty penny. Then I took it to Japanese Auto and they just popped the part back in the socket and charged 3X less, and I didnt even need to get the transmission! Granted, I cant use the wiper blades on full power or they might pop out again, but I dont use it on high speed anyway! So thats a win! They work great!Overall great experience, and Im just so grateful to finally find an honest and compassionate crew who do work at reasonable prices. They are a blessing.

Best auto care experience; dropped off my car when they opened for problems with car starting, check engine light, tune up, and an oil change. It was available for pick up end of day and it only cost me $350. Its hard to find honest mechanics that do everything by the book. Theres a reason why this place has been open for decades with such high rating. Forget about price shopping, just take your car here before you get ripped off elsewhere.

We used their services for the last 12 years. This is one of the best auto repair shops in the state. They are very knowledgeable about most imported cars & are very reasonable in their pricing. The one big problem is that they are always very busy because they are so good.

This is a great shop to bring your car for oil changes/tuneups etc. I really appreciate their honesty in repairing my car. They quote and estimate accurately and dont oversell a repair. Call a few days before you need a repair and theyll fit you in.

I brought my daughters 2006 Toyota Corolla in here for the first time this week and we will be a loyal customer from now on. Magic Toyota had her car for a week and after $2000.00 in repairs they sold us, it didn’t fix the (unknown at the time) problem. It turns out my very new driver put desiel in her car and Japanese Auto Care had it diagnosed and out the door for very cheap in under a day. They seem very honest and trustworthy! Thanks for being a good and honest business in a sea of dishonesty and ineptitude.

Wow what to say about these guys. Theres great customer service, then there is this shop one step above that. Came in with a difficult oil leak problem on my Subaru and after replacing a few parts it still had some leaks. They were so concerned with taking care of the customer that they did a whole bunch of stuff no charge to me. That kind of desire to make sure the customer is happy is rare these days. I recommend these guys to everyone now! Not to mention their prices are fantastic!

Even though I gave them short notice and they were busy they were able to accommodate me. The shop is not much to look at, but the guy I spoke to seemed honest and knowledgable.They performed a 30K service for a 2009 Subaru Legacy for half the dealerships price, which appeared to be consistent with other competitive prices for the same service from shops around the country.They did all the important things like replace all the fluids and filters, rotation, checking brakes and hoses etc. They didnt replace the wipers and detail the car, but thats fine with me. Id rather not pay the dealer for that.Will be going back there in the future and would recommend to others.

EDIT: I ended up replacing the passenger side junction box as recommended by Japanese Auto Care, a mistake that cost me an arm and a leg because A: I had to have the Mazda dealership do it. and B: it didnt even fix the problem! It turns that the radio, for whatever reason had stopped working during the period of time that Japanese Auto Care had my car, maybe just bad luck, maybe something else, well never know. But the bottom line is that after 3 more trips up there, from South Bellevue, Japanese Auto replaced my stereo free of charge. This was about $100 part, plus labor for free. That was a gesture that I wont forget. Overall I give this place 4 stars. They did a great job replacing my shocks/struts. But the few times I drove up there unnecessarily, only to find out that the car still needed work, is what I had to remove a star for. I recommend this place for any car work you need done, unless its electrical in nature.ORIGINAL REVIEW: I took my car here 6 months ago to get the serpentine belt replaced, front struts replaced, and a coolant flush. In doing that, somehow the shop fried the ECU / Passenger side junction box on my car. They gave me the car back when the service was done and didnt mention it to me that they fried the car. I noticed when I got home that none of my buttons or stereo worked. When I took the car back to them they held it for 3 days and eventually said oh we tried to call you 2 days ago, we dont know whats wrong, you should take it to a dealership (there was no missed call on my phone). The part they fried is an $1109 part from the dealership, and I have to pay to have it reprogrammed to my car. Ive been trying to get in contact with this shop and they have the said the manager will call me back, twice, over the course of a week, and never have. I really hope I can resolve this issue with management because I was happy with the work they did under the hood.

My friends have had this business care for there Honda for many years. When Kia offered to exchange all my belts for $1200. to $1500.00 hundred. This establishment did it for $800. With a water pump and tightener and he warranted his work.

Best shop ever. They diagnosed an air intake problem on my Chevy Tahoe I couldnt figure out for the life of me. It took them a week of troubleshooting (which I knew it would) on top of all the work I did, but they got it. Everyday my truck was in the shop I just imagined the dollars racking up. Turns out it was only $300. $200 for the part, which was correct amount, and only $100 in labor that it took to replace it. No charge for troubleshooting. These guys are the only place I go now and refer them to everyone.

Ive been bringing my cars to Jae for almost ten years, and him and his crew have always done right by me. Its not only that they beat all of the other prices in town, with high quality work, its also that they go out of their way to save you a buck.Unlike most mechanics Ive worked with, instead of replacing an entire part for a small break, they will repair what they can. Best and fast work. I would highly recommend this shop. They made my 1999 Subaru Legacy GT wagon like brand new! My car died right after I wrote this. It was the first time I driven it any distance so it got warmed up on the freeway from Bellevue to Woodinville they said it was just a switch or a sensor. When my friend went to pick it up it was still having problems and they went in and did something and he drove it back out and he says it seems to be fine its only been driven down the street and parked to get it out of there small lot. Hopefully everything will come out well because I really put my trust in these people. They will have a permanent customer and the person who took care of the bill for my car. And that is somebody that you want for a customer and a friend so hopefully everything is well with the car I will update this after I drive it during this coming week.

Prices are great and they are fast too! My only complaint is that they forget to reset my maintenance lights.

Nice honest and affordable

Japanese auto care doesnt look like much from the outside, but inside you get someone who really tries hard to make you happy. The costs for my repairs are always less than I imagine, and once he fixed something I assumed was a big deal, for free. Ive been taking my Nissan there for years 210,000 miles, and now my Mercedes too. I trust him and have sent friends there whove also been happy.

I normally dont write reviews but this one I will do to help others maybe. I have a 06 Rx400 suv with 100k+ miles on it. I basically skipped most of the dealer recommended 30,60,90k including the timing belt at 90k. So I figured I would do them all in one big shot at 112k. Dealer quoted me outrageous amount to do timing belt and the 120k/90k service, so I went up the street to Gregs Japanese Auto. They were slightly less than dealer but nowhere near the price that Japanese Auto Care did all the service for. I had a lot of work done there and it was done very professionally and reasonably priced. They worked with me on price and I was very happy with service. Dropped off in morning, picked up that evening at 5 oclock. They always say the busiest garages are the best and whenever I go in there there are about 10 cars with hoods propped open and no parking anywhere. Also, had minor issue with a window not rolling down and Jaeh was very helpful with that and did it at no charge after the major service. Thanks!

This guys are crooks, attempting to take advantage of people who dont know about cars. I asked for a quote on clutch replacement for Mazda and Jay quoted me $1,400. I asked him to break down the parts and labor and he said it was half and half. This is an outright highway robbery. OEM clutch cost $100-$300 for retail. Auto shops get them for even less, which leaves labor at $700 for them. Because of lack of tools and short of time due to some travelling scheduling are the only reason why I dont do this myself. A friend who IS a mechanic bought the parts on my behalf but didnt finish the job because he moved out of state. He paid less than $300 for the clutch.
