I only have good things to say about my experiences with Shane and the guys at Expert Auto Repair. As a college student it’s hard to find quality work at a great price, I’ve tried numerous businesses around here and Expert Auto Repair is by far the best. They did the job in a timely manner and went above in beyond in their work. I would 100% recommend this shop!

This place is very helpful. When I needed work done on my car they helped. Was very happy with the work.

My experience was not very good. I dont want to complain and focus on the negative so lets say the greeting is nice, the areas are clean. I hear good things anout their work.

Friendly but took in vehicle for a treatment plan. Told them a problem I knew about the windows. They disregarded my knowledge and ignored my advice. This caused further damage than was before. I took it back for them to correct it and not available during working hours. Not too impressed yet other associates say they are excellant. Lets see if this is just one time bad start.

Had several bad runs with these guys. A few times they werent even around during posted hours and one time we set up to meet them at the shop and no one showed up. Wrote it off as fluke and brought in car to diagnose a few issues with motor, AC, and power locks. They just really didnt try very hard to get answers for us. Told us they didnt have time to really dig deeper and that we could try a few things such as turning off the AC (in the middle of August) when going uphill. Thats not a diagnosis or a repair. Ended up just getting an oil change and wasting a day of shuffling vehicles around. I know times are hard and Covid has strained everything, but this to me just came across as total lack of concern. They certainly didnt go out of their way to make sure our concerns were addressed and issues taken care of. Not sure how they have such high ratings.

I went into have my car inspected this past week and think I may have found an auto mechanic shop I can trust. They were able to schedule me an hour after I arrived, so I ran a couple of errands and returned at the agreed upon time. They took my vehicle in, and I was able to sit in a very well equipped, comfortable area. As I read, I overheard dealings with other customers. They were professional yet incredibly friendly with everyone. The owner/ shop manager informed me that my air mass flow sensor was unplugged. The car is relatively new to me and had only been worked on at the dealership. The mechanic Evan rectified this~ free of charge. A new inspection sticker was put on my car and everything was complete. I highly recommend this auto service company.

Quick and effective diagnostic and service for my cars AC system. I called last minute in the afternoon and Shane worked me in the next day before noon. Will be returning here for my future auto repair needs in Lynchburg.

I cant tell you how pleased we are with Expert Auto Repair. Our daughters are 900 miles from home, and we needed a mechanic we could trust. Shane is honest, fair and exactly who I want working on my daughters cars. I highly recommend him and will only use Expert Auto Repair for my daughters car needs while in college in Lynchburg!

These guys were such a lifesaver. My battery died, and after jump starting it three times, I ended up down the street from Expert Auto. They checked to make sure the alternator was working and switched out for a new battery for me. It meant a lot to me to get help.

Shane has gone over and above to help me. I have felt taken advantage of by other car shops. Shane has always been honest with me and has given me the best deal. At one point I had something wrong with my blind spot indicators and Shane did some research and found out what i needed to do to fix them. The other dealership (Jeep Dodge Ram terrible dealership with worst sales and service department) was going to charge me over 200$ to take a look at it. Thankful that I had Shane to call! Wont go anywhere else for Car Repairs.

On 2/25/2021, my daughter who is going to College in Lynchburg called me from Roanoke, VA and said her car was making a funny noise. She limped it back to Lynchburg. Not knowing any shops in Lynchburg I started to Google and found Expert Auto Repair which was only 5 miles from school. I spoke to Shane and told him I was in Richmond, VA and my daughter was in Lynchburg asked if he had time to look at her car and let her know if it was safe to drive home the next day. She took it to him and he checked it out fixed the problem (loose lug nuts) and sent her on her way and didnt charge her a dime. Thank you Shane!!!! for helping me keep my daughter safe, next time her or my son need some repairs I will send them to you.

When people need a mechanic they are often concerned with finding a good mechanic and hope that he is also fair. But “fair mechanic” alone doesn’t do Shane justice. Shane is amazing at his job and he is also just a good person. I as very fortunate to take my car here my first year of grad school and I can promise you that this is the best place in town. After many problems over the past 3 years with my 20 year old car that I got from my parents I’ve never once even considered taking it anywhere else. I plan on moving soon, and if I find someone that has even 10% of the integrity that Shane has to work on my car, I’ll consider myself very fortunate. So, all I can say is take this number and save it in your phone. He’s the only mechanic you’ll ever need.

I’ve been taking my cars to Shane for the past few years after reading the raving reviews on here. However, I called a couple of days ago to make an appointment for a couple of things (tire change, alignment, and oil change). When he answered, it was like he was annoyed and there was no hello. He told me he couldn’t balance tires or something like that. So I said okay, can we do an oil change? I told him I had my own oil which seemed to really bother him. He rudely said “look, you gonna have to find another shop.” I understand that some shops have policies where they don’t want you to bring your own parts, but that doesn’t excuse you from being rude about it. Needless to say, I’m going to find another shop as suggested and he lost my wife and I (and whoever asks for recommendations) as customers. I decided to be fair and leave three stars for the work he has done in the past, but he is a rude person.

Expert Auto is my go-to shop in Lynchburg. As a young woman, Im always concerned with finding somebody trustworthy who wont try to trick me into spending more than I need to, and I always feel like I can trust this shop. My car is pretty temperamental, so Im in often, and Shane always explains what the problem is and even shows me what hes doing so I know whats going on. I know Im only getting the repairs I need, and they will be done right at a very fair price. Also has the best prices in town for oil changes! Highly recommend!

Was on vacation and had alternator fail. Most other places were too busy but they were able to fit me in, suggested I buy my own part so I wouldnt have to come back locally to them for any warranty claims, and got everything fixed up nicely for a reasonable price. Was very pleased with the service and professionalism. Recommend them highly.

Up till now, I have been coming to Expert Auto Repair for over 5 years for all my car needs. Shane is extremely helpful at diagnosing and fixing problems with both of my vehicles (2004 Ford Focus and 2005 Dodge Neon). From motor mounts, cam sensors, brake assemblies, spark plugs, oil changes, flushes, ball joints, etc., I have always received a fair price and honest diagnosis. Many times I have been in a situation where I replace something on one side of my vehicle and have asked if the other side should be done as well. Each time, Shane has given me the “mechanic answer”, and then followed up with the time frame that it will NEED to be done. Based on these, I have waited out or asked for the service accordingly. He has a superb way of explaining what the part or job does so that you understand exactly what the process consists of. If you are not a car person, you will feel like you are after he explains it.Shane always gives a great price on labor. Just last week, I was quoted a price for ball joints after at an inspection site (not Expert Auto) that included over $500 in labor. I took the vehicle to Shane, and he did the job for well below that estimate and in a quicker amount of time conducive to my schedule.In conclusion, Shane has been a blessing when it comes to auto issues, and I highly recommend that you consider Expert Auto Repair for you future needs.

I have been to a few auto care places in the area. Unfortunate to say, some will overcharge, or even lack integrity (e.g. not change oil honestly and still charge). Shane at Expert Auto Care does good, honest work, and is reasonable with his prices. Which is why the same people always come back to him. I recommend him 5/5

Shane was very helpful and made sure I understood what he was doing and what my options were. I only had a two hour window between class and when I had to get to work and he was very amenable to this. He even gave me a broke ass college kid discount. I cannot recommend him enough!

I had to get an Inspection Sticker for my car so I took it into a reputable garage that offers State Inspections. I was told I would need to spend around $350 to get my front brake pads and rotors replaced in order to get a new State Inspection Sticker. I thought this was a bit much, so I searched for brake repair shops in the area. Expert Auto Repair was at the top of the list with several reviews, so I decided to give them a call. I was quoted a much better price for new brake pads and rotors for the front of my car and I was told they could get it done the same day! I ended up getting the brake work and my oil changed for less what the other place wanted for just the brake work. The oil change at Expert Auto Repair was much less than I have been paying for oil changes for my car. It turns out that Synthetic Blend is all my engine really needs. I am glad that I found a local shop that offers great work with decent prices. I am happy I found Expert Auto Repair and plan to use them in the future. Thanks Guys

I had taken my car to a national chain tire-and-repair place for inspection. I was told at that time that I needed brake pads, rotors and a new right front marker light. They offered to do it for me for over $300! After I recovered from the sticker shock, I decided to look and see if I could get it done for less. I read the reviews on Google about Expert Auto Repair, and decided to give them a try. As a single, non-automotively-inclined woman, I had some misgivings, but I need not have worried! I was treated very professionally and courteously, from the time I walked in until the time I drove away. The office and the shop were both very clean and organized. I got an appointment in a very timely manner, Shane did the work very efficiently and thoroughly, and - as it turned out - I didnt need rotors! The cost was what had been quoted to me up front, which I was also pleased with. I was struck by Shanes honesty as well as his excellent work. I just moved to town and my car started making awful noises and having obvious brake problems the first day I was here. Moving is financially stressful to put it lightly, and so I was dreading the trip to a shop. A friend recommended Expert, and I gave them a call. The got me in same day and the owner worked with me to figure out the safest and most affordable option to take care of my poor, neglected front brakes. This shop is super friendly and honest and does quick work. I will definitely be returning for my future maintenance and repairs!

I was two days away from needing to leave town to head home from VA to GA. All of a sudden, my car broke down, and it turned out that it wouldnt be a quick, easy fix like a fresh battery charge. I went to Shane in desperate need of a fast, well done starter replacement, and man did he deliver. He helped me through the entire process, and my car was running like new by the next morning. So grateful to Shane and the guys at Expert Auto. Theyre good people, great mechanics, and I will definitely be paying them another visit when Im in need of a reliable, affordable fix.

Awesome shop. Shane (owner) is great! Got my power steering serviced, took me right in and started working on the car. Showed me exactly what was wrong, and fixed it that same day! The final price ended up being about $80 cheaper than his original quote as well. He then explained to me what they did to fix it, as well as telling me about warding off potential transmission problems by getting the fluid flushed and serviced every 25K miles or so. Definitely will come back!

I have been going to Shane for over 3 years. I have a 2003 Jeep that has almost 150,000 miles on it, so needless to say it breaks down at least twice a year. He’s replaced my entire cooling system piece by piece over the course of a year as it broke down. When he changes my cars oil he checks out the rest of my car and let’s me know what will probably need to be replaced within the next couple months or what I should look out for. I had my car towed from over 45 minutes away when it broke down to his shop because he’s the only one I trust to fix it.Just today he replaced my brake hose and called me to let me know how much it would be. He said most shops would do the same repairs to both sides, like the brake hoses. He said it was up to me if I wanted to do it but he recommended it. There was not pressure or sales technique to get me to pay another $200. I just honestly trust Shane with my car. I know he’s going to do what is only required and not touch anything else.

I was in town for a quick visit with my daughter and had some brake problems. There were no familiar shops nearby so I took it here based on the reviews and was not disappointed. They had it quickly diagnosed, fixed within a few hours for a fair price, and I was back on the road. I would definitely recommend them.

So I did a review 2 years ago but I’m making a new one because this place is just so great!I came by the other day because my front driver side wheel was making a very noticeable and alarming thumping sound anytime I’d drive. I took it in right away to Shane and he inspected my vehicle and come to find out the last place I brought it to never tightened up the bolts on my tire! They were practically about to come off they were so loose.Shane tightened all of them and didn’t even charge me for using his time! After reading the large amount of google reviews, I decided to check these guys out and see for myself if they perform as well as others say. My vehicle needed brake service, (brakes & rotors). However, I needed service that was affordable unlike some mainstream companies. Im in college, so as you may know money definitely does not grow on tress in my neighborhood. I have been using Shane and the folks at Expert Auto Repair in Lynchburg for several years. I trust no one else to provide the level of service, responsiveness and expertise that they offer. In the past, Ive rarely had an auto shop follow-up with me about the status of my vehicle, how it was running, etc. Shane, on the other hand, will call or e-mail directly to check on things. Its not like he has any extra time on his hands; he just cares that much. Its like he considers my vehicles to be partly his responsibility, and that helps because they tend to be the last thing on my mind. Hes never let me down when I needed a quick inspection at a moments notice, and hes always given me the best price I could expect for quality work. Rather than take the most expensive route to solve an issue, he often recommends several alternatives to meet my budget. And hes not satisfied until the problem is solved. This is actually the 1st review I have ever written, but my experience with Expert Auto was so positive that I had to share it.I can not remember a time when I have had a more positive experience with getting my car fix. They were personable, flexible with my needs, and budget. Btu what impressed me most was that they really listen. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone!To give you a bit of background. I would not describe myself as a car guy. I only know enough to maintain the car (checking oil or power-steering, and know the bad engine sounds (brakes and so forth). I also know my limitations when it comes to me repairing (which is quite a short). Because of this limited knowledge, one thing I have become an expert at is when someone is talking down to me about car repairs (which can happen often).I went into Expert Auto for only two things, changing my oil and a vehicle inspection. Simple right?If you have owned a car for any amount of time, simple is the exception not the rule. Not to bore you with all the details but from a quick diagnostic Shane (the owner) found I had a few more small but real issues. I never once felt pressured, belittle, or without a choice. He was willing to give me my options and most important, give me a chance to figure out what I would be willing to do and/or afford.In the end, we were able to work it through all the issues. Not only that but my car was able to pass inspection with no problem.Thank you Expert Auto (Shane) for your expertise, patience and advice. You went above and beyond!

Great service! Repaired AC on my Honda Odyssey, same day service. Its been working great for a couple months now. Im glad I found this repair shop. Direct and to the point, tells you whats wrong and how much it will cost to repair before doing the work. Id go back anyday.

I would highly recommend this place! We are from PA and were traveling to pick up my son from college, when our van broke down. (Sunday, Mothers day no less) Our van was towed here, based on reviews we looked up. We stayed at a hotel and called Expert Auto Repair the next morning. Shane was very helpful, took our van in right away, diagnosed it, ordered the parts, and fixed it...all by 10:30am! He knew our situation to need to leave and was so helpful! He explained what went wrong and the price was great too! If any of my sons friends while at school need car repair, we will tell them to go here! I wish this place was in Pennsylvania!

I have never had a single problem or bad experience, and have always been impressed with the honesty and affordability of the service. Perhaps the best thing about this place is that you get a combination of both high quality professional service and the old-fashioned authenticity of a hardworking small business. Even with complicated car problems, Shane has always been good at explaining the details of the situation in easy-to-understand language. Theyll take walk-ins if they can, but as with all good mechanics, an appointment is a good idea given how busy they tend to get. Either way, youll be spared the hassle and run-around of other places, as they always seem to do what they can to get the work done asap, and are honest if its gonna take a while. I have been actively searching for a good mechanic since I moved to Lynchburg a few months ago, and after reading 28 glowing reviews I settled on the all powerful Shane at Expert Auto Repair. Unfortunately, when I arrived the front door was locked. I waited patiently for about a minute before a worker w/glasses, Im guessing this was the magical Shane, came around the corner. Considering its 20 degrees outside today I was elated. He walked up to the doors window, looked at me, and walked back to the back...although I was frustrated that he would leave me stand outside, I continued to stand at the door. After another minute he walked back to the door and I asked if they were closed. He looked at me, stood there and talked on the phone for another minute and finally opened the door... he then asked what kind of trouble I was having with my vehicle and I explained all of my issues. He told me that I could leave it with them for the rest of the day but unfortunately that was not an option for me. I hadnt planned on leaving it, only attempting to diagnose the problem, receive a quote, and return when I could secure a ride while my car was being repaired. He stated, We only take serious inquires. Its not even worth letting the heat out of the garage unless your going to leave it. If it was warmer I could do it. I have no doubt that Shane does great work and is as reasonably priced as all the 28 other reviewers said... But the service I received today does not reflect that. Guess Ill have to find a place that does work in the winter..

All I can say is, excellent customer service! We unfortunately had our catalytic converter and oxygen sensor stolen off of our car and had to get a replacement as quickly as possible. We first took the car elsewhere but we could not afford the quote we received, even the officers investigating the theft told us the quote was too high. Then we took it to see Shane at Expert Auto Repair. He immediately had everything fixed within two hours, and at almost half the price we were quoted at the other place. Even drove his personal vehicle to an auto parts store down the street to make sure we bought the correct parts for the repair. I couldnt have asked for better service or a better resolution to our unfortunate situation!

This place is great. It was my first time looking for a mechanic in lynchburg and I am so glad i came here. I was skeptical at first because this was my first time here but in the end i didnt need to worry. He was very honest and showed me everything about my car and what was or wasnt wrong with it. He didnt try to con me out of any money and gave me options about what could be done so i could do what i could afford. He was really nice and efficient on time so i did not waste my day. Although I read the reviews, I have never written one until now.The day before, I was researching auto repair shops in preparation for my daughter attending college in Lynchburg. As a former ASE mechanic, Im particular who touches any of my vehicles, especially my personal one; and MAN!, Im glad I did and that I found Expert Auto Repair!!We were taking our daughter to college Mon. when 6 miles from the school we heard a commotion under the hood, then I had no PS, and the Alt. light was lit. I knew I had lost the belt and I pulled into a store/restaurant. When I popped the hood, I could see the alternator laying on the fan with both bolts broken off in the bracket.A quick call to AAA and the tow truck was on its way. While I was waiting, I called Expert Auto and Blaine answered the phone. I told him my story and he said no problem, well be waiting for you. The shop was 5 miles away, and when we arrived, I met Shane and Blaine and they promptly began working on my truck and even drove me to NAPA to get a belt and a fastener place to buy a couple M8 bolts. The broken bolts were removed, parts assembled, and a short while later I was back on the road!! And at a VERY reasonable price!If that wasnt enough, the extraordinary part that I have left out is the fact that my truck in NOT stock by any means. When they saw what they were dealing with, they just asked what they needed know and proceeded, whereas other shops are generally lost when they look under my hood.I highly recommend Shane and Expert Auto Repair, especially if you have a son or daughter attending college in the area, they are honest and knowledgeable!!!

Shane Kidwell always provides excellent service at an honest price. I have taken my car in to his shop several times within the last 6 months for various reasons from brake and axel problems to door lock issues and he always takes the time to explain and even show me where the problem lies. He always suggests the solution that will be best for me, even if it does not provide him extra business. For example, I was recently having trouble with my door locks, and, after looking at them, he suggested that simply having a new key made might fix the problem. I did this and my locks now work perfectly. If you are looking for a skilled, honest mechanic, I highly recommend Expert Auto Repair.

I moved to Lynchburg, Virginia back in 2011, when I got here I established the basic necessities of a new home town, a new Doctor, Dentist, and of course a new Mechanic. I drive an older model car thats pushing nearly 200,000 miles and it is my desire to keep her lasting as long as possible. Needless to say, in the last 2-3 years my car has had power steering issues, bearing issues, and the most recent transmission and piston issues. Yet, in that time I have never had to seek an alternate place of service for my car. Shane at Expert Auto Repair and his crew have been an excellent auto shop to call my own. Shane has has stayed after he had already closed to wait for me to drag my beat up car there and look it over for me. He has cut me breaks and has worked with me on every angle and level that I needed. Expert Auto Repair is a place to take your car, not just because they get the job done, but because they understand the stress that can accompany a broke down car. They are caring, fast, and willing to always help in a time of need. I tried them because of the positive reviews on Google. I hate to bring my car in for service and do 99.9% of everything on my own. I had an A/C problem I couldnt figure out and Shane (I knew his name because everyone on Google calls him Shane) hooked up the gauges, showed me what was going on, said that perhaps it could use a few ounces of freon, charged it up and told me to come back if he hadnt fixed me. He did not charge me at all! Repeat, he told me to hit the road, all was well, and to come back if I had any other problems, but did not charge me a dime! Also, I asked him two other questions about my car and he eagerly and patiently answered them, giving me insight and advice as opposed to finding a way to charge me. I simply can not say enough about how wonderful of an experience this was and I will come back in the future without any hesitation. I really hope my review helps someone decide as I feel that exceptional service deserves to be rewarded.

Always great service, very reasonable and accommodating. I started taking my car here a year or two ago and havent gone anywhere else for service or oil changes since.

I purchased a 1989 Dodge Ram Charger with only 75K miles on the cheap ($450) at an auction in Charlottesville, only to discover that there was an intermittent electrical problem. I ended up having to have it towed from Charlottesville all the way to Lynchburg, and had them drop it off at Laslie Autobody where I **used** to take my cars. They let it sit for 10 days (literally) with no work in spite of multiple calls asking them to get going on it. When they finally seemed as if they might begin work, they told me their first course of action was to give it a tune-up even though we already knew it was some sort of spark issue. I told them no thanks and had it towed to Expert Auto Care after reading all of their glowing reviews on google.To be fair, Laslie had given me pretty decent service in the past, but once I got the vehicle to Expert I knew I was dealing with another level of service and customer appreciation. They found the problem after having the vehicle 1 day, and gave me a rock bottom price to boot. I had it back within 2 days of my drop-off date, and it has been running like a champ ever since.In addition, I know just enough about cars to talk a bit of shop, but couldnt pass for a mechanic on even my best day. They explained things to me thoroughly, in a fashion I could understand, and (particularly because of the price), I never felt as if I was being taken.They made a believer out of me and I recently took my Ford Taurus there to have some work done on a cracked rim. Again, super speedy service, low prices, and thorough and friendly explanation. They never made me feel like I was inconveniencing them like so many shops you go to.I plan to take all of my 3 vehicles there for as long as I live in Lynchburg!
