My husband passed away a few months ago, and I was at a loss of what to do for general repairs on my vehicle. My mother in law recommended Barnes and I originally went here because of her, but after having service done on a few occasions for different issues, I will always bring it back here.They are very professional, keep you informed of prices and dont do anything without telling you first. Barnes has repaired Several cars for me. I took 2 Beetles to both dealers in Louisville. Neither dealer could fix my Beetles. Barnes is like the Lone Ranger riding on a white horse to save my cars. After my first experience there wasn’t too good, the owner Chuck Barnes (who is very kind by the way) called me shortly after he heard and did everything he could to make the situation better. The way that they handled the situation was very professional and showed that they really do care. With them being really busy I understand things happened that they didn’t plan. I can confidently say that they do care about their customers and have their best interest in mind. I am grateful that they took the time to turn things around and put a smile on my face. I had the worst experience Ive ever in this kind of business. I took there my car yesterday 9:00 am, asked if they could get a wheel alignment done the same day, the guy on the counter said yes, with the condition to leave my car all day with them and wait for their call to pick up my car. Around 2:30 the same guy called me saying they couldnt do the job due to some issues on their own, he asked me what did I want to do, I asked back if he assured me that the job could be done next day. He said YES, and I decided to leave my car so the alignment could be done, Today, when I arrived to pick my car up at 4:30 pm, the sane guy told me they didnt do anything because they found something else that needed to be done to get the correct alignment done. I asked him why did he wait until I got there just to inform me he didnt do what he assured me the day before. We just found what needed to be done (the next day at 4:30 pm, and I left my car there the day before at 9:00 am) he said. Im not sure if he was just playing with me like if I was a kid, The only thing I know is Ill never be back there and will give the worst review every single time I hade the chance

Scheduled 2 weeks out and dropped my truck off a day early for power steering leak. Tech said it was the pump leaking so I paid nearly 700.00 for the repair in addition to other repairs totaling nearly 3K. Got truck back and continued to leak half a quart in a day. Barnes wanted to charge me an additional 600.00 claiming the new pump caused other leaks due to the pressure. What a joke. Also priced me 800.00 for a fuel housing part only that sales for 550.00 at autozone. Never once got an update om my truck without calling to ask. Also spent 2 days to price out repairs but fixed all in less than a day. That just doesnt add up. Stay away if you want to avoid being overcharged and ripped off. Very unprofessional, price upcharge on all parts at least 25% higher than cost up to 40% higher just for a part. I will never return there. In additition I took my 2009 toyota that needed a new engine. Quoted a price of over 8K for a used and iver 11k for a rebuilt. Googled them and can get a used engine for 2500 with less than 100K miles and a 50,000 mile warranty or a rebuilt with unlimited 5 year warranty for 3500 shipped to my home. I was quoted 4K just for the used engine and an additional 4k to 5k for the install. You would think this place works on commision as much as they try to upsale.Reference to response:No where in my post did I said I was unhappy with my truck. You pay someone 700.00 to fix a power steering leak it should be fixed. Id rather someone tell me that they were not certain and give me a range than to say yes its the pump, switch the pump and blame a new leak on the power of the new pump and then try and charge additional for what I paid to fix. Pretty simple, you were paid to fix a leak at a price and it wasnt fixed. Reporting to BBB as well. Please dont do business here. DIESEL TRUCKSYou mention of quality parts. So for the toyota you must be thinking the parts put in the engine you buy are different than what I quoted or better because you must buy your engines where the quality meets Barnes standards. Chuck Barnes is especially great to deal with and honest as they come. The staff is great and everyone is friendly.They are exceedingly fair in their pricing as well. No gouging. They fix what needs to be fixed and nothing more, but they will diagnose whatever is wrong with your car. They can change your oil or rebuild your engine expertly, and everything in between.Barnes takes all the anxiety out of having to have your car serviced. My first time to Barnes with my 2016 Volvo, but it wont be my last. They provided a detailed inspectionand estimate for work needed with zero pressure. Barnes uses an online service to provide all details on the inspection and quote, and finally invoice. You can easily communicate thru messaging, and they were quick to respond. Great job!

Have used these folks for years. They do quality work and stand behind what they do. I have used them for services such as replacing an engine and transmission to my most recent visit for front and rear brakes. These guys are mechanics, not part replacers. There is a BIG difference.

I bought a used 2016 Jeep Wrangler with an Oil Leak. I took it to Barnes to get the Oil Leak fixed. They took a look at it and recommended I take it to Cross Jeep to get it repaired for FREE since it was still under 60K Mile Drive Train Warranty (Cross fixed the Upper Oil Pan leak for free). Their advice saved me a $1,200 bill! Everyone there (Lacy, Cameron, Chuck) were friendly and courteous. I will go there again...and recommend them.

Awesome job! I have taken my care here a couple of times over the past few years the 1st time was after another shop gave me a estimate of 3500. Took it to Barnes and got a estimate there of around 1200. The other place was basically trying to rip me off. And at Barnes it was guaranteed for a year!! The last time i took my car there was just yesterday 11 -26-19 they still go above and beyond got my car fixed fast and right for a great price. I will never take my car anywhere else period. Awesome customer service, reasonable prices, and Honest. Dont waste your time and money going anywhere else. I am a customer for life.

Brought my truck in here after I noticed gear oil on my driveway. Barnes gave me a great price and great service and they also notified me of a bad lower ball joint and since the front end was already apart, they gave me a really good price to replace it.My 14 year old truck now rides like it is new again.I highly recommend bringing your vehicles to Barnes.

They are the best! When bridges were being worked on, my tires seemed to be magnets for bits of metal and other things (I think I got 4 punctures). Barnes would patch them up quickly and send me on my way - I think they didnt even charge me for one of them. When it came time for new tires, they helped me evaluate what tires I needed and got me a good price. They are easy to work with and always helpful!

My dad recommended Barnes Auto Service to me to look at a GMC Acadia I was looking at to buy and they are the only ones that have worked on it since. This is the first time for me here. Very bad experience. I have already told them whats problem (door lock) on my car. But they still charge me diagnosis fee. Actually they did not intend to tell me how much they will charge for the diagnosis at the beginning. After I repeatedly insisted on asking, they told me they will charge an inspection fee.The price for the parts are almost double of the same parts from auto-zone. Anyway I will never come back again.

I just moved here from Virginia, and needed to find a regular mechanic in Louisville. I read the Google reviews for lots of places (this is how I usually find any service), but I was drawn to Barnes Auto for some reason and decided to give them a chance. They gave me a second opinion and fixed a small noise for me without charging me an arm and leg. They are a nice group of guys, and I got the feeling they wouldnt suggestive sell you things to make money. The owners son (forget his name) told me I didnt need an oil change yet but I decided to go ahead and get one. Anyways, so far so good. Ill continue to use them. I’d have no issues sending my grandma to them. Haha.

Took my 01 ranger in there with some serious electrical issues, I thought. They reluctantly agreed to give it a look for 300bux. Um ok sure. Turned out to be mostly minor stuff they fixed fairly quickly. He said it starts and it runs come pickerup. Ok cool. dont make it up there that night due to rain and other things but the next morning I thought id ask them to check the headlights wipers etc. I bought the truck sight unseen really . I knew it didnt run and needed some work invested into it, but after that itd be a good extra vehicle. Well for whatever reason they had not done basic function checks and wouldve had me pickerup with no wipers or headlights. Not theyir mistake. He said it starts and it runs. My bill which I threw away in disgust was 300+ for labor and 19 dollars in parts. The replaced alittle wire and a couple fuses. They fixed my headlights and wipers, (again a couple fuses) and oh by the way thatll be another 116 dollars thanks. I wouldve paid it to be done with the same old checkgrabbing hacks all mechanic shops seem to be. But after I argued the point just a bit that that shouldve been done already!!! He said lets call it even just come get it. I only paid 600 for the truck. I wouldve gladly sunk up to a thousand into itand been good with total ammount invested...but that experience reminded me why I almost never go to these places

My 2014 diesel jeep grand cherokee started overheating one night while driving from Cincy to Louisville. I had always taken it to the dealer, but after my last experience, Ill never go back to Cross. I did some research online, found Barnes, and had the jeep towed to them, leaving it there on a Sunday evening. They called me immediately Monday morning letting me know they had my car, keys and were beginning to look into the problem. A few hours later, they called with their diagnosis and an estimate. They were able to wrap everything up the following day after ordering a specific part....all the while keeping me in the loop. Ive gotta say Im impressed with these guys, and will be taking my jeep there for all future service needs.

I had to have a motor replaced in my Jeep, Barnes was the only shop that was straight forward with their price, most other shops not only quoted me higher but I was told it could be more depending on other parts, even after pressing them for a straight cost, I could never get a exact $ amount, not only did Barnes give me an exact price, they also addressed all of my concerns, the whole staff was very curtious and friendly, my car was fixed on schedule and came in a little cheaper than they thought, I have had my Jeep back for 2 weeks now, and have had no issues, I’m very pleased with Barnes automotive, thanks to all of the staff, for being so friendly and curtious, I would highly recommend Barnes and will continue getting my vehicles serviced there,Thanks

BEWARE. This business charged me over $300.00 to repair my AC. Slightly over 5 minutes driving away from the lot, the air shut off, and when we returned the vehicle, there was an ink pen sized hole in one of the hoses. When asked about whether or not the hole was there prior to the vehicle being in the care of Barnes, the company replied that there was not one present. They claimed that somehow in the 5 minutes that the car was returned to us, that a pen sized hole appeared in the hose, and all of the frion leaked out. When we asked whether or not they would correct whatever mistake that they made during the repair process, they attempted to charge us another $300.00 for the process. I will never be returning to this place, and no one else should either-- unless they want to have the same problem that I just did. They took $300.00 from me to do nothing, and then attempted to charge me another $300-500.00 to look at the same problem again that they failed to fix the first time. Going here was a very poor choice. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. Please learn from my terrible experience, and make your own decision.

Beware! Get estimate in writing first before authorizing any work. Shop should start this practice to prevent any misunderstandings or miscommunication between shop and customer. I was told by Kayla 50.00 to get a 2 ND opinion on my Cadillac. Dealer told me blown head gasket needs new engine at Courtesy Cadillac. Since Barnes put new Jasper engine in 2010 for 10,000 I thought worth towing car to get 2nd opinion. Motor has 51,000 miles. Chuck senior or Jr called me next day and I specifically asked if cost would be over 50.00?? He reassured me if any additional cost he would call me with authorization request. I said good because Cadillac dealer tried to charge me 310.94 when I was told by there service manager 110.00 to diagnose car. When I objected Cadillac dealer corrected bill to 110.00 like service manager quoted me. I told Chuck I didnt want a repeat. I was very clear!! I knew if motor was bad I didnt want to keep dumping money into a dead car. They had car a total of seven days. On day two Chuck Jr called me Nov 2nd to ask if they could keep car til following Monday there scan tool was broke and out for service. My husband wanted to go get car but I said lets wait til Monday. I was very patient. Chuck Jr calls Monday 11am and tells me I need 795.00 worth of repairs to fix fuel injector from throwing fuel all over engine. A fuel pressure regulator and spark plugs?? I told him I only wanted 2nd opinion on head gasket and declined repairs. He said 265.00 then. I asked what happened to 50.00 charge I was quoted? He said they had to do additional work I did not authorize. I told them I wasnt able to pay for additional work I didnt authorize. I have had a bad month with 2000 in extra unexpected expenses, from putting a 26 year horse down to two major appliance break downs. When it rains it pours. I cant get a head or a break. You dont know my budget or my bank account. Maybe 265.00 is small amount to you but it all adds up. I said what happened to 235.00 you quoted Monday?? He said OK then 235.00. He would not allow me to speak to father senior Chuck Barnes. He got nasty and said I wont get my car til I pay! So beware! Mechanics can charge you anything and hold your vehicle hostage til you pay. It is unethical and not right but a learning lesson for me. I have delt with many shops with many vehicles but this was a nightmare. Get all estimates in writing!! I will be contacting attorney generals office to file a complaint. Most people wont get attorney for 200 to 300 to recover loss. I will! Its a matter of principal and being flat out lied too! Disgraceful. I hope they dont do this to a crazy person or they would go off like you see these mass shootings. I thought they were an honest repair shop but not after my experience. They did not do a compression test to save me money, only tested for hydrocarbons that tested negative for blown head gasket?? They replaced a spark plug because of misfire and pulled plenum to check fuel injector leak?Replacing one fouled spark plug on #4 cylinder is a temporary bandaid for serious problem. They tell you they are doing you a favor like the dentist pulling a tooth when you only go in for cleaning and say pay 500 at checkout. I pulled your tooth k because it was infected with out your willing consent. Unbelievable. They know exactly what they are doing. If someone would of called me and said its going to take more time to test head gasket and cost xxx I would of been OK and understanding if asked. Lack of communication. I had car brought home on flatbed and will pursue issues next spring as a project car. . Im like Jay Leno very passionate about my vehicles and for someone to cause me so much pain and grief when I was told your not getting vehicle til you pay bill as nasty as they could say that caused grief anger shock and outrage. It could of been 10,000 but I would of had to pay it to get vehicle back and pursue damage. Beware! I appreciate and value mechanics and there time but not unethical business practices.
