Its amazing what these people are doing. I truly salute them for their work and passion. I went there on a few occasions when my friend was considering adopting a dog (which he ended up adopting). The place itself is ok, you book a 1-hour slot and you get a free drink. Its not a cafeteria, its an indoor closed space with rescue dogs. The people there were very accommodating with the adoption process. They would give the dog to my friend for 1 day at a time so that both owner and dog would slowly get adjusted to one another. The whole process was very smooth.
AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! We expected a few dogs to be there (based on our experience with cat cafes) and they surpassed our expectations, since there were pbbly about 10+ dogs who were all so friendly. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable to give us insights about the dogs and their history. My favorite dog was Meatball, because hes such a big dog and super sweet. My partners favorite dogs were the puppies since theyre very playful. Overall every dog was unique and all so very loveable ❤️❤️. If we ever decide to move to California well definitely come back to this cafe every time we can, since we currently dont have a dog to care for. Also the fee $15/hr is so affordable to get such amazing experience 😎😬.
Beautiful cafe! Amazing staff and the best part loads of friendly beautiful doggos! I was lucky enough to go on puppy day and it was amazing! If I didnt live 1000s of miles away I would have adopted one for sure! Raising money for a great cause through a brilliant experience, delicious coffee and lush souvenirs!
I went here two years back and went again this month. The people there were amazing and the dogs were so friendly and happy with great spirits and an obvious love of people. So much fun and I hope I can go back soon.
There was alot of dogs and two puppies. They give you a free drink when you pay for the hour to play with the dogs. The dogs are so nice. Its a great place to spend time with dogs specially if you are considering adopting. When we went there was no one else there just us and 2 staff members. The staff was very nice to us and they had alot of chemistry. Honestly this place is awesome and you should go!
Loved the idea of The Dog Cafe from the beginning. Ive been a few times before and recently adopted my sweet Bailey (formerly known as Cookie) after meeting her here. Its a great way to get some dog time if you cant own one and a really good way to see a dogs personality and potential if youre looking to adopt.
Thus place is so wonderful! Staff is so friendly and informative, and same with the doggies. Such a great place if you’re looking to adopt a new family member 🐶. All the dogs have stories from their past but these lovely people take them in, clean and get them all fixed up and ready for a new start to their life. No animal should be left behind. I will be telling EVERYONE about this place! So awesome. And you can get a coffee while enjoying your time with the pups!
It was a terrible experience. I filled in the adoption application and paid the 10$ fee. Never heard back from them for days. Then they asked for a home video check which I immediately sent to them, via We Transfer. They never saw the video. They never got back to me. I have emailed them many of times asking how the dog is doing and what is going on. There voice-mail is always full. Its now been 6 weeks and I gave up. It was emotionally draining and time consuming.Hope they treat their animals with more dignity a respect.
What a great place! My sister and I recently took a trip to the West Coast with no definite plans. A few days before our trip, I somehow stumbled across The Dog Cafe and being the dog lovers we are, I knew we had to go. From the concept of having a casual place to sit down with a beverage in your hands surrounded by wonderful pups to the fact that this place is actually saving lives is amazing. It was definitely a highlight of our trip and we cannot wait to return!
Wonderful cafe with a great cause behind it. The staff is professional and they do a great job of introducing the dogs and letting guests know about their likes, dislikes, and other personality traits. They also only serve plant milk with their hot drinks, so their compassion for all animals (not just dogs) is the real deal!
Just another place that hasn’t updated their hours or status, it’s permanently closed
Love this idea. All of the dogs are from shelters so you can adopt any of them. When you first walk in you may find that it kind of smells but your nose gets used to it before you know it. It costs about $30 per hour each person, which is far less than actually owning a dog so Id gladly pay that to play with puppies.
Cute non-profit organization that helps dogs get fostered and adopted with a cafe attached to it next door.Parking is ample (above or underground) and they have their own brand of coffee as well and other fun items in the store to purchase that benefits the organization. To visit the dogs, customers have to reserve time slots for a nominal fee to play with the dogs that are currently there. This is a great opportunity to get your doggy time in and check out who youd like to adopt before making the commitment. This is such a positive environment and what they are doing for the animals is an amazing thing.Disclaimer: I volunteer at this cafe and the staff is wonderful. They are all care deeply about the dogs that come through their doors. Ive had nothing but great experiences here!
Love the concept of this and that they are helping dogs in need. The staff was very nice and you can tell they really do love their dogs there. The dog Cafe was a little hard to find and parking is very limited. The area where the dogs are at smells a little bit to be expected with an indoor dog area. The Cafe is a separate lot next door which was a little different from other animal cafes we have been to but its all for a good cause.
We went in around our appointment, got our coffee, filled out a waiver, and were guided to next door where the dogs were. We walked in and all the staff were very attentive and were chatting to us about the different dogs throughout. Very chill and calm atmosphere. The dogs were calm and easy to get to know. When our time was over we went back over to the coffee bar, bought some souvenirs to remember our day (the proceeds of which go to help he dogs and shelters), and went about our way. Very cool, very good way to spend an hour, even with dealing with LA weekend traffic
Wonderful bright and happy place. Cares about the dogs safty and well being. Fun & exciting. You will defiantly want to make a reservation there are very few walk in spots. Also be there ahead of time.
Good place to to pick a furry 4 legged new family member.
Good vibes, great people. Came at 4pm though and most of the dogs were taking naps. Probably much better if you come in at another time.
Cant say enough of this place. The beverages are pretty good (although to be honest you dont come here just for the drinks), the staff is friendly and the dogs are the sweetest dogs ever. We recommend you get on the floor and you will have more doggy time, guaranteed! In our case we cant have a dog as our apartment is super tiny, but this is a perfect alternative. We can come enjoy these little guys while we help them and the organization. Also it is a very emotional experience as you can spend a bit of time with dogs who havent been treated very well by life, like Rocket, or others who are enjoying their last years.Extremely recommended!!!!!! (just dont take there your finest clothes!)
The Dog Cafe is an amazing place full of the sweetest pups in the city. If youre looking to adopt a dog, check here first! And if youre not able to adopt a dog, but you need some unconditional love and extra joy in your life, come hang out here for an hour! Its a perfect set up with a coffee shop next door, pay for your admission, grab your drink of choice, and play with some adorable dogs. Each dog is adoptable and they will all steal your heart. The organization is doing great things to help the dogs of LA, you wont regret supporting them, and you can even grab some cute merchandise while youre here.
Found out about this place on a google search. Went to visit on a Sunday, 3/20/16. Had a TON OF FUN!!! Theyre still in the soft opening, so the room next door where the cafe is suppose to be is being renovated. But the big playroom where all the adoptable doggies are is up and running. Which is the real reason to come visit! There was about 6-8 dogs available to play with. ALL were super sweet and friendly and were excited to have someone spend time with them. It was so joyous to see all these shelter animals happy. This is such a great concept. Having these great adoptable dogs in a loving and stress free environment to showcase their irresistible personalities. For anyone thats looking to adopt a pet, or just looking for a great place to brighten their day I would highly recommend this fantastic dog cafe! The staff was very friendly and attentive, the dogs were superstars, and the vibe was awesome!I hope this cafe is successful and more of them spread and open. Come down and visit, you will enjoy this great experience!
The Dog Cafe is a nice place to come and cuddle with some cute dogs. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable regarding the dogs and with adoption information. Since this is an experience with live animals, its hard to know what to expect when it comes to dog behaviors. I visited on a sunday afternoon and the majority of the dogs were sleeping or tired. They seemed played out and it made the experience a little dissatisfying. However, I support this business for what they are doing to help these animals and I hope that they all find forever homes.
Adopted my fur baby from here and was pleased with my experience. He was healthy and well taken care of minus needing some hair around his face groomed. They even gave us a little goodie bag with some of the food he was eating + some free samples, pamphlets & info on how to register his microchip.
I went to the dog cafe with the intention of adopting a dog. I said it multiple times out loud, they want their dogs to get adopted so it shouldn’t be an issue. the staff recommends you foster the dog before adopting, I think to myself, sounds like a great idea, foster then decide if you want to adopt. Foster to adopt does not exist apparently. But nonetheless I then, after 3 rescheduled interview appointments, finally got and interview. Only to find out that to foster you’re not going to get the dog that you previously interacted with and also that both the dogs I had interacted with and put in applications for were gone. So the 15 dollars to go meet the dogs for an hour is just for that exchange not to aide in the adoption process. Overall I had a terrible experience and felt like I was wasted 15 dollars when I could have just gone to a same day shelter and not dealt with the disorganization of this organization.
I came here with my girlfriend. All the people are super friendly and the dogs are so fun to watch. Theyre wacky and sweet. You can tell theyre well taken care of. There was this sweet little girl dog who spent the whole time napping on our laps.
Dogs are awesome. They take good care of them and employees are friendly. I visit every couple weeks. Its nice to see the progression of the dogs that come in scared because the may have been abused then get socialized by being around friendly people. After a few weeks they become more trusting. Have seen it happen more than once. Then they are more likely to be adopted. Wonderful place.
Super fun place to go, especially if you need some puppy love. Awesome way to spend an hour.
The Dog Cafe is a non-profit and your entry fee goes to the dogs. The rescue dogs there are all looking for their forever homes and theyre worth the journey to give them some love.
All the dogs are super sweet. Its a great place to hangout, relax and play with puppies! You HAVE TO make a reservation in advance, and if you dont you cant play with puppies.
More dog than cafe as you re in another room with them. I wish I could adopt them all. There werent toys that we could play with them because some doggies get jealous so its understandable. Dont wear black pants cause youll get fuzzies on them.Everything is reserved ahead so book online. No walk ins.A wonderful cause!
Lots of cute dogs but it seems kind of touristy as mostly foreigners visit this place. The dogs are only interested in people with snacks.
Ill always come back to meet such cute big or small dogs 😍❤️
Wow this idea is amaaaaazing! The dogs are so friendly an unlike what we think of rescue dogs to be like. And the coffee is good too!😋
You can *never* go wrong at the Dog Cafe. The people there are sweet, the pups are always happy, and you can tell they really know what theyre doing as they try and find these little cuties forever homes. I stop by the Dog Cafe every time I am in the LA area!
The dog cafe was a fun and interesting experience, however, I think there are some problems with the set-up. Lovely dogs and friendly staff, fun to sit around and be with the dogs. The problem I have with the place is that it seems like the dogs are a bit overloaded with people coming to pet and play with them. This may be a problem both for the dogs and for the many people who are eager to go to the cafe not to adopt but to spend time with dogs. For example, there is a sweet older black dog there (13 or 14, with arthritis) that kept on wanting to go into its cage and sleep on the dog bed. However, the caretakers kept preventing the dog from going there and getting a break from the humans.According to the Staff the dogs have a bit more energy in the earlier sessions. But they seemed totally wiped out (most of them at least) by 4 o clock. We saw on average of 15-20 humans coming to play with like 8 or 9 dogs every hour. Look, these dogs would have been killed otherwise, and kudos to this place for taking them in. But, the dogs, when I went there, clearly wanted to rest and take a break from humans. Often the caretakers would keep on picking them up to place in the hands of the people who wanted to see the dogs.I think if you, like myself, are interested in just being around dogs and hanging out with them, going to a local dog park and just hanging around is a more enjoyable experience than the cafe. Although dog cafe may be really good for someone who is afraid of dogs and wants to be around lower energy dogs. The dog cafe is a great idea but it doesn’t work so great. It would be better if shelters themselves could find ways to let in more people from the public to socialize with the pups (and, yes, many do).At the dog cafe, it’s too much, all at once, for too long for the dogs. And, for the humans a nice thing, but not really going to deliver if you want to spend quality time with a dog whose energized and excited to hang out.As an aside the cafe was nice, and everyone helpful and sweet.
I was very excited to come here and pet the dogs, but u didn’t bring my ID so I wasn’t able to pet them. I would like to warn anyone under 18 that they will not let you pet the dogs if a legal guardian is not present.
Such a fun place to meet dogs and possibky adopt one
Was really disappointed, honestly.I came all the way from Wisconsin (yes, the state in the midwest) to see this place, and it was not what I had hoped.I will say that the staff seems to really love the dogs. But they also seem like they dont really know what theyre doing, and there are many issues with the cafe overall. They get 2 instead of 1 because I really love the mission and I think at their hearts theyre trying.#1 issue was that to clean up a pee accident they literally grabbed a sponge mop off the wall, soaked it up, and stuck the mop back on the wall.... no disinfecting?? Yikes!Additionally..-the coffee was bad-the cafe side was just a waiting room-the decor was mismatched and the space seemed very worn down, not taken care of-theres a random dirty fish tank?-they dont answer the phone-they close early kind of whenever they feel like, which makes it more frustrating that they dont answer the phoneYouve got the right idea, but it definitely needs to be revised a bit!
Dogs were great, and the woman that made our coffee and helped us was great. However, as my group waited in the lobby to see the dogs, we heard 2 of the employees talking and one said, All men are RE****ED then said, I mean all men are slow. We had two men in our group and as a woman myself I was highly offended by the sexist and hurtful comments that were said. Women like that make feminism look bad. I was very disappointed and disgusted.
Dont go here for the coffee - my latte was just okay, and I had to pay an extra dollar on top of the $15 entry fee for soy milk. The mission, however, is great and if youre in the mindset of adopting a furry friend (or want to play with pups/support the cause) I think its definitely worth the experience.
This is a great space to play and love on dogs. The dogs are great. Volunteering here has been a blessing. The staff is wonderful, come check it out!
I went for my birthday. I would post one star but I gave them an extra for the sweet dogs there. Workers were yelling at dogs with anxiety, locked up one dog and said that she couldnt be around people cuz she has anxiety but the dog wanted to leave her cage. Workers take up way too much of the dogs’ attention since they know them and don’t let customers spend much time with the dogs. I was in the cage with the dog had too much anxiety and while I was in there playing with her one of the workers came up and said to the dog “I’ll be in there soon girl” acting as if I wasn’t even there. Needs to be more considerate and aware of customers. Needs to take better care of dogs. Too much negative punishments for dogs that come from shelters. Also very dirty. Was very very disappointed. One man kept kissing all the dogs on the mouth. I’m sorry that’s fine if they’re your dogs (I have 2 adopted chihuahua mixes and I kiss them all the time) but i DO NOT think it’s sanitary to let all dogs kiss you IN the mouth while they interact with other people as well.
I hated the place. 1. The dogs just want to know if you have food. 2. they do not want to adopt, they prefer the dogs there to be able to gain from the visits. 3. a new puppy arrived there, wanted to adopt, I have all qualifications. They did not even pay attention, the dog is still there after 1 month. 4. Money for them is worth more than an adopted dog.
Wonderful place, the staff are lovely and tell you the story of each dog. The dogs are lovely, some of them want to play and some of them just want a cuddle. A must for dog lovers and people who care about re-homing and rescuing dogs.
Im thinking of adopting a dog, its close and the website looked good so I went to check it out. They want 15 bucks to go in and see the dogs... what the heck is that?!? You want to get these dogs adopted or you want to charge an entry fee?
Best place to get some dog lovin in, dream about adopting them all, actually adopt them all (seriously, all the dogs are available to be adopted!), and sip on a lovely cafe drink. The people are helpful and dogs are adorable. What more can you want!
Amazing work they are doing for the dogs. Also there is free parking in the complex.
I want this place to work, hence my rating not being lower, because it is a great idea and I love anything that helps dogs.BUTIf you want to go there know that there is a WAITING LIST to see the dogs. Its NOT walk in. I was turned away by the staff for that, even though no one was in the playroom with them except the attendant. They also wont let you look at the dogs through the window unless you buy something, also partially because there isnt really any seating available except the benches outside. The neighborhood and parking isnt great, but where in LA is amirite?I think the location/running needs work, but I do believe in the mission and I still encourage you to go to support their efforts so that they could make it better.
Got taken here by my girlfriend for a date. Had an amazing time playing with all the dogs and puppys. A really nice way to destress if you are living a stressful life and the best thing is all the proceeds go to helping the furry ones hopefully finding a home one day. I am very glad i found this place and would highly recommend checking this place out if you are just looking for something to do :)
Fantastic idea, but the people here are not working on it very well. Everything there seems to need some improvement. The coffee, the space, the decoration of the room and the cleanliness of the dogs.
The dogs were sweet but some were not the friendliest and we didnt get to see the puppies because we were crowded out. Wonderful idea just needs some work on the humans side.
Had service. Called before I go but did not tell me all spots are full till I arrive after a long drive. Also people dont seems to care since they are volunteering.
We love coming here to see the pups 💙
Very educational. The staff are nice. The dogs are adorable. Always consider adopting animals in shelters
Great dogs, great staff, great cause. Good prices on the coffee. They save space for walk ins.
Such a great fun time, I always go there when i am in town . The do have an age limit but that is understandable due to the dogs being rescues
Even though when you walk in to play with the dogs you are assaulted by the smell of urine. The friendly people introduce the dogs names and encouraged us to pet and hold them. I fell in love with the gental soul of a bulldog named George (pictured here). Upon showing up ahead of our reservation time we were able to get refreshing drinks their ginger lemonade is highly recomended! Definitely want to come back.
This place is heaven sent, the dogs are really taken care of and the staff is just good at what they do. They try to give you a background fo the dogs history and make sure both parties feel comfortable.
My first time and will be back again! The pups are the sweetest the staff is great.
A worthy cause and fun to hang out.
So much fun to visit the dogs! I wish there were more places like this.
After weeks of failed planning attempts I drove across town to visit The Dog Cafe. After an hours drive, I got to the front door which was locked even though there were employees (and dogs) inside. When I approached the employees, they rudely turned me and my friend away under an excuse along the lines of, We close early when we dont have many reservations. It was 5pm, and their listed closing time is at 7pm. When I told them how far I drove from, they simply replied with, You can always come back tomorrow. And the place wasnt even clean...
Ok managment awful ownership my friend he would constantly get bounced checks from here not a place I can support will never be as good as the real dog cafes overseas terrible location never coming back
Move over Disneyland, this is happiest place on earth. The pups are the sweetest, most loving and cutest pups around.
Super fun
When we got there, we were not allowed to go in because you needed 2 adults for some reason if you have two kids. Then, there were only old boring dogs that were mean and didnt ever want to play. Finally, the whole experience was not fun at all and even though its a cafe, you werent even allowed to bring food in. THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE. It is far away and in a bad neighborhood. Instead, go to the cat cafe which is a MUCH BETTER PLACE, AND NEARBY.
These guys are awesome. Great service. I trust them with my dogs!
I got my dog from here! Great animals and a very pleasant adoption experience.
Really poor experience. I made a booking over a month ago and accidentally selected the wrong date. I have emailed countless times to try and change the date but have not received a response. I have also called a number of times but their mail box is full.
My experience with the Dog Cafe was profoundly disturbing and I intend to report them for animal maltreatment and health code violations. When we picked up our dog for the adoption trial--at a time we had arranged in advance--we learned she was not up to date on her shots (though the website indicates this), nor did they have records of her shots. We also learned that our dog likely had Giardia and worms (which was later confirmed by the vet), which the staff member shared is common amongst most--if not all--of the dogs in the cafe. Though the cafe staff know that their dogs are sick, they dont work to prevent or treat them pre-adoption. I assume it is to cut costs, but in the meantime, these poor dogs are suffering from extreme lethargy due to lack of treatment. We insisted on testing for these diseases at pick-up (though it should have been done sooner), and had to repeatedly follow up with staff for the results. We did not know until a week into our trial that our dog was sick (the staff member did not follow up to share the results), and then had to undergo a months worth of medical treatment with the dog. We had to visit their vet several times throughout the trial for shots and medication pick-up, which could have all been avoided had the cafe actually cared for the dogs in the ways they should be cared for.All of these negative experiences were exacerbated by the unprofessional communications with the young, inexperienced staff who seem to be in charge of the cafe (the owner never seemed to be around). Staff were unprepared for pick-up and failed to communicate throughout the process. When they did communicate, it wasnt timely and was almost always unprofessional. Its clear from my experience that the cafe is in no way interested in doing what is best for the dogs in their care, but in churning out adoptions as quickly as possible to enrich the cafes young and absent owner.
Great experience with adopting our new furry little friend. Thanks for everything!
Best place to hangout with amazing dogs that need a home😍
If you love dogs go here support the stray dogs, spend one hour with the dogs you can adopt one I wanted to take them all home .
The only dog cafe in LA. However these aren’t your typical playful dogs made for cafes, they are all adoptable dogs with a backstory. Because of that, many of the dogs don’t feel like playing or even being around people.
The first LA dog cafe! also it was my first time vising a dog cafe. i like the fact that there is a seperate place for doggos and the staff was very friendly. the place was kept tidy and clean. there are not as many dogs as you might expected but they are all very lovely
Super fun place to have a great drink and play with adorable and adoptable dogs.
Had I been looking for a dog, I would have adopted one of the dogs from here. They take good care of them.
So many cute dogs! Wouldve adopted them all if i could.
Really nice place, staff there are really kind and sweet. Although we didn’t adopt her or him, we had amazing time with new friends.
Its really fun to go pay with the dogs and the staff is really friendly.
Lovable doggos and great coffee. You couldnt ask for more!
Im not sure what service they offer but every night on my walk home from work I can hear the dogs inside the cafe barking and crying. At least leave them a light on or something. Or cover the door dont just put a sign.
Awesome place, must visit when in the area. Will put a smile on your face.
I love dogs and I love coffee. Ahhhhhh yeeeeee
I love it because dog dont usually have any thing
My wife organized a trip to The Dog Cafe as a surprise for my daughter. WHAT A HIT!!!!Everyone was super nice and friendly from the moment we arrived. Check in looks like it could be a bit more streamlined, but everyone is in such good spirits that, WHO CARES?!?!We each enjoyed one of their three lemonades, Traditional, Rose and Lavender, and all three of us had big smiles on our faces and drank the entire glass.Very smooth transition for everyone coming in to the actual dog interaction area next door. There was plenty of seating for everyone and TONS of different toys to use to interact with the dogs. Many people also sat on the ground and those folks (myself included) seemed to have the most fun. There were all kinds of dogs for all kinds of people: little puppies, big puppies, quiet lap dogs, yippie dogs, old calm dogs and even an old, blind dog (Oreo was cute). The staff was fabulous (Kennedy and Kennedy, fo real the same name for both ladies). They introduced each dog and told a little back story and helpful handling information for each one. i.e. this one loves to be picked up... this one... well... let this one come to you.Dogs do what dogs doo, and the staff was right there within seconds to clean it up. Extremely clean facility with no doggie smell. The dogs were very well groomed and taken care of and were of quite a pleasant disposition overall.Needless to say my wife is so awesome for planning this and the surprise was very well received. The toughest part for us was fighting the urge to take one of these little guys and gals back home to Florida with us.The staff educated us about adoption options without being pushy. Very nice atmosphere. Also loved the time slots so that it never felt crowded in here.
So much fun! We need more places like this!
