Their fantastic chicken sandwich features the juiciest and plumpest fried chicken Ive ever had. Their breakfast sandwich is killer too, try that with the chicken only if you are REALLY ravenous. Their fries are crispy and delicious, with or without sauce (they come with ketchup only so ask for any other sauce youd like for a small charge). This place also features gourmet donuts ($3-$4 per) and EXTREMELY nice staff. Very minimal seating so Id suggest doing takeout. Totally worth it!
Best donuts I had in a long time. Glaze was satisfying and ultra rich, very delicious. They have fruit glazes too, actually tastes just like them - their ghost pepper mayo is a must try! Their outstanding chicken sandwiches are way better than Popeyes or KFC.
Cant speak to the donuts although they looked really good, but spicy chicken sandwich was bomb. Massive chicken breast breaded and deep fried. You get what you pay for. Ive tried many fried chicken sandwiches downtown all similar price but none compared to the size of this monster. Heat is perfect too, good kick to get the nose dripping but not too much that you cant enjoy it. The picture makes it look bland but trust me it is not. They also melt cheese under the bun which really adds to the flavor. I want to try a donut but man its impossible to have one right after eating a chicken sandwich. Luckily I cant find a calorie count anywhere.
I have no problems writing about Birdies was a great sandwich! I had the spicy chicken with ghost pepper mayo. GF had the regular for a dollar less. We has two Cole slaws and a nuttella banana donut for dessert. Tiny place in downtown but there was overflow seating next door. They had loads of yeast style donuts for sale as well as the chicken sammies, fries n coleslaw (menu attached). The sandwich I had was strong spice but still flavorful a really tasty sandwich. Id say a smooth heat, but not burn your mouth. Girlfriend said my face went red so strong yes. My girlfriends was more mild but the cheddar cheese gave it a nice twang. Im being picky but the bun could have been slightly more stronger. Was creative to finish the last 1/4. Coleslaw was vinegar based and quite crunchy. Staff there was awesome. Didnt get names but tall dude followed up on me. I had asked about the spice level on the spicy sammie and he made sure I liked what I ordered. Shorter guy packing togo and other orders was really nice too. He made sure people had their donuts and played some chill music. Really nice and helpful guys. Dont know about restroom did not ask. Parking was tight, but hey downtown. Two spots in front, 5 or so in back but they stayed pretty full. A short, 3 minute walk south we found 6$ city parking on a SUN wide open. For the adventurous to explore the area there were those rent electric scooters outside. Summary:: A nice casual chicken sandwich place as advertised. Chill while you wait music. Awesome donuts in a few of the popular flavors. Would definitely hit this place again for a quick bite. Thanks guys!
Some of the donuts taste like the ones you get at a grocery store, stiff and bready. Some of the others are great. Good coffee. Nice staff.
Birdies is a quaint small establishment that serves up some very big burgers from what Ive seen; and for the very brave they have Ghost pepper mayo. Also, they apparently make their own donuts too. The crew has always been very courteous and welcoming.
Very good hole in the wall spot that sells fried chicken sandwiches and donuts.I ordered the Birdies Spicy and although it wasn’t as big as I had hoped, it had a lot of flavor and the chicken was very juicy and worked well with all the other ingredients.Staff was very helpful and the food was ready fairly quick. Good spot if you just want to post up on the sidewalk and have a quick bite
I’ve eaten many chicken sandwiches and this takes the top spot. i got the birdies breakfast sandwich because i like my sandwiches fat and it doesn’t disappoint. they also sell donuts which are a must try. some are stuffed with cream 😋
Superb, friendly customer service plus they offer samples to try the donut flavors.Small minimalist black & white interior, regular fresh hand made donuts with inventive toppings. I didnt try the free-range chicken sandwich but it looked delicious. I had the maple bacon and the cinnamon toast donut, both were delicious.
I was visiting LA for the first time and Andrew Daves showed me what a wonderful place Birdies is! Will def visit again and highly recommend!
These were both great tasting sandwiches, picture #1 is the classic Spicy chicken sandwich and #2 is the Nashville BBQ sandwich. There are a couple of other sandwich options on the menu. They also have a bakery case, with donuts that are specialty made. 10 different types ALL look delicious!! I tried but forgot to photograph the Pistachio Lime donut. Go before noon if you are having it for lunch.
Absolutely some of the best donuts I have ever had! I got a glazed and cookies and cream donut and my husband ordered the chicken and bacon sandwich. Everything was wonderful and staff was super friendly. An absolute must go to in LA.
One of the best donuts I’ve had! Forgot the name but the banana flavored one was my favorite.
I read these reviews and I was excited to try this place. I was continuing my quest of eating great fried Chicken. Then I get here and it was very disappointing. They eliminated pretty much any type of chicken with bones except for the chicken wings. they didnt update their menu so you didnt realize that you can get chicken thigh and a leg. The options was get or chicken strips or chicken sandwiches. I didnt want to chicken sandwich at more bread than I want to eat. I got the chicken wings which were okay. My daughter got the chicken strips which are a hot mess basically the batter was falling off of it and it was soggy batter. We also got the donuts which were $3.50 to $5 each. The donuts were very sweet but other than that boring. I actually didnt even finish my maple bacon donut. It was way too sweet.
Incredibly disappointing. As a doughnut connoisseur, I have come to sample a variety of amazing donuts over the country. This location was not it at all. All of their donuts were terribly dry. The one redeeming quality is that their staff is friendly and nice. The Oreo donut was only palatable with the help of the sweet cream filling, yet even that tasted processed and put a waxy coating on the top of my mouth. Now the coffee. Absolute WORST coffee I’ve ever tasted, and I’ve had terrible coffees. After one sip I threw it out. It was so bitter and sour and undrinkable. This was a terrible coffee that ruined the experience. Sad to give my first donut shop score of 2 stars, but I can’t justify any higher score.
Love the food. Its a bit expensive but I come back regularly as a guilty pleasure. And the staff is always super nice.
The breakfast chicken, egg, and cheese sandwich is highly recommended. Literally melts in your mouth and it’s filling. I go here often.
Oh oh oh. Their wings! 🤤 so crispy. I had the lemon pepper dry rub. Smell soo yummy.Probably the best donut shop in dtla! I don’t really have a sweet tooth and I don’t like Krispy kreme for being teeth numbing sweet. Yet, I found birdies’ donuts are tasty. My favorite is the pistachio ones. Soft, tasty, with just the right fluff. Recently also tried their cookie n creme ones. The cream was sooo yummy and not overpowering. Also they have chicken & waffle. What’s not to like about this shop?!
Must try their coffee and donuts. Can’t say enough great things about the staff here. Lucky to be right down the street from the most affordable and great tasting coffee
Food is pretty good. I enjoyed the donuts more than the chicken. Its relatively expensive if youre not alone and want to experience chicken and donuts. The restaurant is super small. It seats about 10 people and can get pretty claustrophobic feeling when busy. Parking is a drag too. I would recommend it but prepare for DTLA parking and go during a slow time so you can sit down and eat.
I was so excited for the breakfast sandwich w chicken, egg, cheese and bacon. But the only thing you taste is the whack spice mix on the chicken which resembles old-bay and a cheap Cajun seasoning salt. It’s the only taste you burp up too. Bummer. Great staff tho and freshly made!
Came here while visiting from the San Francisco Bay Area to work at Anime Expo, and because I was on vacation mode, the moment I saw fried chicken and donuts on the day I landed here, I went, I HAVE to come here!!!!!!They can cut you samples of donuts that you want to try! Wow, that is so nice! You can see everything behind the glass counters where they have the donuts, and its so nice of them to do that for you. The first time I was here, this was what I sampled:1) Lemon Thyme Pistachio--so light and fluffy! Its like a classic donut, with a pale spring green frost that tastes of lemon and thyme, and sprinkled with crushed pistachios2) Strawberry white chocolate, also so light and fluffy. I noticed this was missing during my second visit here.3) Coco crispy--just oozing with chocolate, not really my favorite. For my order, I decided to go for the Vanilla Cream 4th of July special, which is like their normal Vanilla Cream offering, but frosted in blue, red, and white, and sprinkled with stars. What a sweet and decadent guilty pleasure. I also ordered 8 fried chicken wings, half garlic Parmesan, half lemon pepper. A truly delicious first meal in Los Angeles!Theres also the gold donut is $100, or a dozen for $1000! From a secret menu, they do offer a mini gold donut for $35. My friend got it the secret mini gold donut, and said that the gold part tasted like croissant flakes, or flakes from toaster strudels. That was really interesting.I came back for breakfast on Saturday, and this time, I sampled these two:1) Cinnamon Toast Crunch--a cake based, very sweet2) Cookies and Cream--a monstrosity, as quoted by the manager. Huge, super creamy, and rather messy.Ended up ordering the breakfast sandwich, with scrambled eggs, bacon, fried chicken, and requested no cheese. The manager was super nice, and on a whim, gave me a donut on the house. That was so sweet of her! What great customer service! The sandwich is big and hearty!!!! I ended up needing to get a fork to spear the chicken.
Pop into Birdies on my way to work. For anyone who doesnt know this, L.A has more donutshops per capita than any other city that being saidThe donuts and FC Sandos are fire and more than affordable price wise compared to other high end shops in L.A
PSA:This place has better lemonade than Chik Fil a!Honestly this place is amazing! I will be here much more often they have the best donuts, chicken, lemonade & of course customer service! They were super packed the guy at the register( Forgot his name but he had dreads) explained everything to us didn’t rush us & was super cool! This place is a must try! You’ll probably never eat a Popeyes or Chic Fil a sandwich again after coming here!!!
Must try!!Spicy birdies: same chicken as in the original but it has such a delicious ghost pepper spread!!! Good ratio of bread to chicken. Crispy batter plus the chicken was moist and juicy baby! Def my fav!OG birdies: tangy coleslaw taste complements the fried chicken well! Def has a diff flavor profile from the spicy so order both!Doughnuts: too sweet for my tastebuds. They sure are pretty. The maple bacon didn’t have a strong maple flavor.
Great chicken sandwiches, excellent service.
Really enjoyed the Birdies Original sandwich, the chicken is perfect. Also enjoyed a maple bacon donut, and more varieties kept coming out of the kitchen! Note that the interior is very small with only a short counter across the back wall with a few stools. Taking your order to go is best (my only reason for four stars, not five.)
Nasty coffee. No flavor and I watched the guy do it. Never again. No flavor
Open late, great food & friendly staff
Birdies is a close walk from L.A. Live, where we stayed in downtown LA. We passed it walking several times and finally decided we had to try their donuts and chicken. Why chicken and donuts have become such a popular food combo, I dont know. But, I do know I dont hate it. I tried the spicy bird. It boasts ghost pepper mayo, but for my taste it was not over the top spicy. The fried chicken breast was great. Perfectly golden brown with a great ratio of crispy breading. The quality of the chicken breast was also so good it was noticeably better than other sandwiches Ive had of similar nature. The bun was also very tasty and buttery. The pickles in the sandwich tie everything together perfectly. For a donut, I tried the pistachio Thyme. Also a great combination of sweet and savory. They were out of cold brew coffee, but the iced americano was a perfect substitute on a a warm day. I know there a lot of food options in LA. This is worth a try if youre in the area.
Made me fall in love with Spicy Chicken Sandwiches and hooked me up with donuts every now and again. Birdies is the one thing I miss about downtown
One of the best breakfast sandwiches Ive ever tasted, doughnuts were also very fresh. DELICIOUS!
Friendly people, indoor seating, great sandwiches, strong coffee (both hot & cold), hot teas & designer doughnuts? I have found my people!
Birdies has become an LA staple. Unbelievable donuts that will take you to new heights. Unpretentious and fun. A great place to take a break from your bike ride.
Yummy, huge size, took 8 bites and full, ate all the pickled coleslaw, with arnold palmer drink👍🏽👍🏽
Been here a couple of times and the food is decent but the wait time for your order is way too long. 15. Or even 20 is ok but 30 to 35 min is pushing it. So if you are in a hurry like alot of people are be ready to wait
Life Changing! Great food! They let you sample the donuts to help you make your choice. This is great because some of them do not taste how youd expect. The breakfast sandwich with chicken and bacon was a sloppy mess of orgasmic flavors. I wish I had room for more because we all didnt want the yumminess to end. Cant wait to return!
Really fancy chicken and doughnut spot. Dont expect to find a simple doughnut though, they all have lots of toppings. The chicken smells better than it tastes.
Best donuts Ive ever had! And Ive tried a lot.
The chicken was okay needed seasonings...This more for non seasonings types of people...The droughts are excellent
Superb service with a smile. The Intelligentsia coffee and crafted donuts are legit. The brekkie chicken sandwich with egg and bacon is scrumptious and satiating beyond words.🤜☇🤛
Love the burgers and more importantly service was awesome.
This was the best place we went in LA. First, the 🍩 were amazing, and they give you a bunch of free samples to try what you like. Highly recommend the Galaxy vanilla. And the sandwiches had the best friend chicken Ive ever tasted. It was thick, juicy, and crispy without being burnt. Have to go here.
Birdies DTLA serves free range chicken sandwiches, coffees, and donuts. The sandwiches are just ok. The spicy was a 6 out of 10. The sliders are about the size of a slider at Burgerim so they are a good filling size. The fries are almost the entire container so the portion size is good. The donuts are decadent but these donuts have the consistency of cake. They arent thin melt-in-your-mouth pastries. They are thick and would probably taste better with a spot of vanilla ice cream or at least with a cup of coffee or tea to dunk them in. The flavor variety is both interesting and good. The staff was excellent and the ambience is good. Its a very small place with only about 8 seats available for customers.Nice for a pit stop to try something different and even oggle at a gold leaf donut glazed in Dom Perignon that costs $100, but I dont think Id come to this place again. Its a novelty donut shop thats good to mark off the old bucket list just to say, I ate a gold donut.
The service was excellent glad I stopped by here the Birdie spicy was delicious and exactly that spicy would come back again next time Im in the area and I recommend that if your reading this you try it too
Had latte and chicken original sandwich here. food and service so so.
Very juicy chicken sandwich, addictive. After I finished the whole sandwich, I ordered another portion of chicken wing. Everything was tasty and fresh. Very very friendly and helpful staff. Ill return whenever Im in LA.
On the backside of dwntwn LA..Wings are fire giving Atlanta a run, Chicken sandwich is huge and fire, donuts are great
Oh gosh this place is amazing!!! They allow you to sample first off!! Me and my son came and left with a few goodies. Staff is always nice..
I got the original chicken sandwich and it didnt amaze me at all. I will admit the chicken was thick and juicy but the slaw that was in it was soggy and I believe taking it to go made it that way. The fries were good and everything else looked good there. I want to give this place another chance next time (will update review when I do) and I will have it there when I go. This place seems to be one of the hottest chicken places in Los Angeles, if you have the chance check it out because it seems like everyone is and who knows maybe you might enjoy it more than I did my first time.
Easy to find. Lots of choices. Staff are friendly. They have a $45 donut.
Chicken, bacon, egg and cheese sandwich was so good.
This place was AMAZING! The two guys that worked there, (blonde guy and a dude with a hat and glasses) were so accommodating and nice. Food was tasty and filling.
FOOD IS YUMMY! drinks are all delicious. Elfekky is so KIND and he recommended the best donuts and coffee on the menu! Will definitely be back to visit soon!
First 3 impressions : NO PARKING, very small and modern, simple yet eclectic menu..Spicy chicken sandwich is to die and circle around the block 3 times for parking for
Original Birdies sandwich taste bland, nothing really special except a very bad customer service.Wait almost 5 minutes till the server decide to hang up the phone and take my order, no apologies to customers. Wait another almost 20 minutes to get my sandwich, it was not busy at all in the restaurant, again no apologies for all the delay.Chicken sandwich got two star but the service got none, averaging out ONE star experience.
Came out to try the golden doughnut featured on Buzzfeeds Worth It episode and was several disappointed. They made the place look very friendly and in inviting and i did not feel that at all. Also, when i got the doughnut (which you need to order 2 days ahead) it was put in a box and I guess was expecting me to eat it elsewhere......really? Did it not even occur to ask if I would like to sit an enjoy it? Buyer beware. I just wanted a treat for myself, not high maintenance but the money for this item I regret not putting it to a charity instead. Definitely not worth it!
A very cute place. And that breakfast donut with fried chicken, egg, bacon, and cheese is everything! 🤩
Service was despicable. Chicken was sub-par. Water in the restroom doesnt work. How can employee have a personal conversation on a phone while we wait then minutes to order. It took 10 minutes to order and another 20 to get our food. I hope they guy taking orders wasnt
Nice place! Had great chicken sandwiches and an interesting selection of donuts. The kitchen actually got my order wrong but the service was very friendly. Theyre pistachio donut was yummy though and Id definitely try them again~
This place has all kinds of original doughnuts and you can try samples of the doughnuts so you can choose the right one! I came here on a Sunday around 7pm so i got parking right in front of the store. I got the cookie and cream filled doughnut and it was good but I’ve had better
Donuts were good but oh man was that spicy chicken sandwich delicious. Amazing
Their birdie bites are phenomenal
Located conveniently next to Mikkeller and Dankness--this is not just greasy protein meant to counter some downtown alcoholic endeavor; this sandwich demands attention and focuses your attention on the matter at hand. I had the Nashville medium-hot and sure I looked up from the slow burn sensation to gaze at the birck and mortar wall and grasp a breath of fresh air and cool my taste buds; the perseverance is rewarding. A single sandwich is pretty substantial as is the heat level.
This place was crazy good!Amazing selection of fresh made doughnuts and a great menu of sandwiches. They also serve some fancy shmancy coffee (which Im not a fan of but have nice distinctive smells).I had a fried chicken, fried egg and bacon sandwich and it was the highlight of my day. That gold doughnut looks amazing too, maybe one day Ill have 100$ to spend on a single dessert.
The chicken. Holy crap. I had the Birdie Bites with Ghost Pepper Mayo earlier today and Im still drooling just thinking about them. I would say they are the best chicken strips Ive ever had. There is a ton of tender white meat in each strip and the breading is that perfect not-too-crunchy kind.I also had a Cinnamon Toast Crunch Donut. It was delicious, but the chicken is why Ill remember this place.
Omg this place is incredible 😍. very tasteful its a must to try
Such delicious donuts and breakfast sandwiches, staff is dope too!
