Would recommend them to everyone. Fixed my daughters viola correctly (unlike the other place we were at a year ago) and it didnt cost an arm & leg. Very friendly. Responded quickly even around the holidays.

Steve Mason Luthiers are the best stringed instrument doctors around. They can fix anything on a guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, ukeleli, bass, cello etc. If it has strings they can make it sound better. They also build lovely guitars!!! Steve is the most experienced luthier in the north east Kansas area and his repairs show the ultimate in care and craftsmanship!

Steve is a great guy, and Im more than happy with the work he and his crew did on my Epiphone les paul II. The fret job was excellent, and at no cost they put new strings on my guitar as well as a setup. I also gave them a set of pick ups with no wiring or anything to them. They orderd the parts online at no cost to me and put the pick ups i my guitar. I had a great experience, and will definitely be going to them in the future for my guitar repair and set up needs.

I specially ordered an S.L. Mossan Golden Era Guitar in 1972. The guitar eventually suffered from an original production anomaly known as de agony of defeet, which rendered the instrument unplayable and essentially broken where the neck attaches to the body. The guitar had also survived years of travel, playing and temperature extremes that had altogether rendered an otherwise beautifully crafted and well-made guitar useless. Steve Mason and friends, without compromising the original finish or other vintage features, resurrected this guitars potential to return the masterpiece I believe Stuart Mossman had originally intended to build. The guitar is now the resonating, ringing, singing masterpiece I always hoped it would be, its finely-tuned tone and action exceeding what remember from the guitar when it was new. Once again, thanks to Steve and Company for transforming a lost cause into an authentically restored, heirloom-quality gem; Im happy to commend their workmanship to anyone considering the setup, repair, refurbishment or restoration of any finer vintage guitar.Regards and Thanks again!

I decided to take my prized 1.4yr old Takamine in to Steve to get an action setup and just overall evaluation on the guitar and condition. It is a G series dreadnaught acoustic/electric with split bridge and a natural finish. I had (neglectfully) let the action & intonation get quite a bit off and was in dire need of a tune-up.He sat with me for 30-40 minutes and did a thourough consultation in the front room of his home which is lined with instruments from fiddles to guitars to banjos. Some I assume to be made in his shop while others are in for repair and retail sale. He asked how I play, tunings, styles, preffered strings etc. and by the end I had learned more about my guitar and the nature of it than I ever found in online research. I also found out that the luthier at the big shop in town had given me some false information regarding properly setting it up.To be fair your schedule has to be fairly flexible as he will have it for a few days and his services do cost more than the other shops in town but man-o-man is it worth it.My guitar has never sounded better, played easier, nor looked better and felt happier. I will never take it anywhere else.He discovered that the truss rodd is a unique type that doesnt take a standard allan wrench and had the proper tools to make the adjustment. He informed me of a few little quirks that this guitar has and filled me in on how to make some home adjustments when needed.Maybe best of all when we were done he gave my 2yr old daughter who went with me to pick up a shirt and just made her day.Steve is a talented and great luthier. Beyond that he is inviting and warm and a good soul.I highly reccommend his services and products to anyone seeking quality goods from a quality shop.
